A 50 State Strategy Success Story: West Virginia
One early success story is already taking place in West Virginia. The state's Democratic Party immediately used the funding provided by the Democratic Party to hire two local activists who call West Virginia home.
J.B. Parker is a lifelong West Virginian. He lives in Weston, in the central part of the Mountain State. J.B. has worked in Democratic politics since 1993. In 2000 he was in New Jersey for the Coordinated Campaign, and he has worked races in West Virginia, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. J.B. and his wife Mary Jane Pascasio, and their three children; Joel, Jordan, and Jaime are very passionate Democrats. J.B. served in the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Nathanael Greene SSBN 636(B) and attended Glenville State College. "We are excited about the opportunity that the DNC has made available to bring WV back into the fold and vote for a Democrat for President in 2008," stated J.B.
Debrin Jenkins is a first generation American and lives 10 miles from her birth place in Southern West Virginia. During her tenure at the WV Department of Health and Human Services in the 1980s, she saw the cult of Reaganomics destroy the economy of southern WV. She responded by becoming a union organizer for public employees and a lobbyist for women and children's issues. During the last fifteen years, she worked as a behaviorist for people with developmental disabilities, as an executive director for a local non-profit hospice and now owns a small consulting company where she successfully coordinated the "Get Out The Vote Campaign" in 2004.
Tyler Oyler is a proud native of the great state of West Virginia in Shepherdstown. He volunteered for the Gore campaign while still in high school, and -- many state and federal campaigns later -- his resolve to Democratic politics has never been stronger. He works with Young Democrats of America and the West Virginia Young Democrats.
