DAY 13: Bolton Testified In Front of Grand Jury Investigating Leak of Plame's Name
A daily service of the DNC, "Mr. Bush, Tear Down That Stone Wall!" will highlight a specific fact that has been revealed and what Americans deserve to know about the White House's involvement in the improper and possibly illegal disclosure of an undercover CIA agent's identity for political gain.
WHAT'S BEEN UNCOVERED
Bolton Testified In Front of Grand Jury Investigating Leak of Plame's Name. On June 10, 2003 the State Department's Office of Intelligence and Research compiled a memo for Marc Grossman, then the Under Secretary of State for political affairs, on Joe Wilson's mission to Niger. The memo included the fact that Wilson's wife was a CIA operative working on WMD issues. According to lawyers, former Undersecretary of State John Bolton, gave testimony to the grand jury about the State Department memo. [MSNBC, 7/21/05]
But Bolton Claimed That He Had Never Testified In Front of The Grand Jury On His Senate Questionnaire. "Part of the questionnaire Bolton filled out in March asked him whether he was 'interviewed or asked to supply any information in connection with any administrative (including an inspector general), congressional or grand jury investigation within the past five years.' 'He indicated in his form that he had not,' said Sen. Barbara Boxer." [Washington Post, 7/28/05]
WHAT AMERICANS DESERVE TO KNOW
Did John Bolton testify in front of the grand jury? If he did, why did he fail to indicate this on his sworn Senate questionnaire? If he didn't, is there information about the State Department memo that Bolton has not disclosed to the investigators? Either way, does this mean that Bolton has met the President's standard for failing to cooperate with the investigation into this breach of national security?
