North Carolina Democrats Invest in Education

Unlile the Republicans in Washington, North Carolina Democrats know how to balance a budget and invest in the education of children:

North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jerry Meek made this statement about the budget, which was passed by the General Assembly late last week and signed into law by Gov. Easley Saturday:

“After a long and trying process, the Democratic General Assembly has passed a budget that is, on the whole, good for our state. The budget has a historic investment in education, including increased funding for our teachers. The budget protects essential health care services, especially for those most in need. And the budget is fiscally responsible and will continue moving North Carolina forward. North Carolina Democrats are fighting for working families and this budget is a result of Democrats working with that in mind.”

With the war in Iraq waging the education mess created by "No Child Left Behind" has been taken off the front pages. We have learned how teachers help students cheat to pass the end of year tests. We heard how they get rid of troubled students so their narrowly defined drop-out rates will show improvement. Meanwhile students are suffering and our nation's children are falling behind as world competetors.
