Rep. King Brings Two Extremists to Iowa for Immigration Forum
From the Iowa Democratic Party:
Anti-Immigration Congressman Steve King is bringing his "Partners in Extremism" to Council Bluffs today for a forum on immigration. This discussion will feature the Republican's most staunch anti-immigration advocates, Congressman Tom Tancredo and Congressman J.D. Hayworth.
"We are concerned that Congressman King would associate himself with these single issues radicals who share extreme and discriminatory views of immigration that don't represent Iowa values," said Lt. Governor Sally Pederson. "Iowans understand this is a state and a nation of immigrants, and they expect a fair immigration policy, not one based on hate and discrimination."

As a 64 year old Dem. (past county, state and national convention delegate) I believe it is "republicrats" like King that are responsible for a foundering party.
Peace - as in a plan like Woolsey's - health care, family sustainable job creation and protection, funding public education, protection of civil and human rights, fair taxes, a "Bill of Rights" for working class people that makes them equal with corporate America, protection of the environment, pension protection, Social Security protection, stopping the proven waste, fraud and abuse in defense spending and transferring the savings to people helping programs. It may not be government's role to provide all of life's essentials, but it is government's role to see that they are provided. (Like requiring Wal-Mart - and other corporations - to pay livable wages and provide affordable health care!
That's what the Democratic Party used to be about. It's not about racist forums like republicrat King is sponsoring. How shameful!
There are liberals and democrats who are in favor of reducing immigration.
For instance, Gaylord Nelson (who passed away this year, rest his soul) was the Founder of Earth Day. In the year 2001, Nelson was asked what's the number one environmental problem. Here's what he said:
"If you had to choose just one, it would have to be population. . . . The bigger the population gets, the more serious the problems become. . . . We have to address the population issue. The United Nations, with the U.S. supporting it, took the position in Cairo in 1994 that every country was responsible for stabilizing its own population. It can be done. But in this country, it's phony to say "I'm for the environment but not for limiting immigration." It's just a fact that we can't take all the people who want to come here. And you don't have to be a racist to realize that. However, the subject has been driven out of public discussion because everybody is afraid of being called racist if they say they want any limits on immigration."

Barbara Jordan was a black woman elected to Congress in the 1970s. In the 1990s, she headed a commission which concluded that we need to reduce immigration in order to protect American workers and their families.

Richard Lamm was the Democratic governor of Colorado from 1975 to 1987. He's a strong advocate of reducing immigration for a variety of reasons. In 2004, he ran for one of the 5 seats on the national board of the Sierra Club, the largest environmental organization in the country.

I have to agree with that the the Democratic party needs to know that the vast majority of Democrats want true immigration reform. I'm not talking about unrealistic ideas like deporting every illegal alien in this country. That would be impossible, inhumane, and devastating to the economy.
But we CANNOT continue to watch our population grow at an unsustainable rate because of mass immigration into this country.
The Democratic party has a wonderful chance to stand up for the American worker (including racial minorities and recent legal immigrants) by opposing blanket amnesties, securing our porous borders, and demanding workplace enforcement of our immigration laws.
I ask every Democrat to please visit www.numbersusa.com to learn more about how uncontrolled mass immigration into this country is affecting all of the things our party cares so much about (protecting the American worker, unions, environmental protection, homeland security, etc.)
