Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

Who is The American Center for Voting Rights?

Posted by DNC Research on August 10, 2005 at 02:49 PM

Yesterday the RNC lavished praise on the partisan American Center for Voting Rights report excusing all allegations of voter suppression, long lines and other problems in the 2004 election.

The ACVR is chaired by Brian Lunde, a former Democrat who became a Bush operative in 2000. Turns out, Lunde's commitment to voting rights is as thin as his loyalty to his former party.

According to Senate lobbying registrations, in 2001 Lunde registered to lobby for George Birnbaum, an associate of Republican consultant and mudthrower Arthur Finkelstein. According to his disclosure filed with the Secretary of the Senate, Lunde worked to "set up meetings for President Kabila of Congo."

According to the CIA factbook on the Congo, at the time, President Joseph Kabila had just assumed power from his father, Laurent Kabila. The older Kabila was a committed Marxist who had ruled Congo since he took forcefully took power in 1997 in a rebellion backed by Uganda and Rwanda. As President, Laurent Kabila banned all political parties except his and failed to hold long-promised elections. He also blocked an investigation into the massacre of tens of thousands of Rwandan refugees that occurred during his takeover. Today, Joseph Kabila still rules as a dictator and no elections have been held in Congo since 1984.

In addition, by claiming he worked for Birnbaum and not Kabila directly, Lunde skirted disclosure laws that would have required him to register as a foreign agent with the Department of Justice.

So excuse us if we don't pay much attention to lectures about voting rights from a lobbyist for dictators who have never held elections.

With tracks like this and good hearts, with the truth on our side Democrats are making History with their hard work! People all over the world have noticed the fighting spirit and truth based action of many Democrate Activists? We can get our name in the History Books to the praise of a greatful Nation to the GOOD of All. Anytime you work for ALL instead of Special Interest, like the Republicans do, we will make History equal to the end of Slavery, Voting rights, and Civil Rights,etc.. When we are doing the right things and working hard, it will always work for good to us as well as all others. I just wanted you to know, I have noticed your names popping up in the NewsPapers.

Good job, staff. You keep on disclosing the hypocracy. I've always thought that those high sounding names that the Republicans use to hide behind when they go on the talk shows were so cheesy. Since you seem to be right on their tails, why don't you run a list of these dummy corporations/think tanks and who is working for and funding them?

Thanks for all you do for us.

TrueModerate,
You are definitely right, we just cannot trust partisan groups, or even special interest groups. Even one of my most beloved, the ACLU, can sometimes be deceiving.

Pentagon to host 9/11 Parade, Country Music Show

Apparently, Rumsfeld thinks the 9/11 anniversary is a great time to celebrate. He's sponsoring a publicity stunt/military recruitment fair for the day that over 3,000 Americans died on our soil.

So let me see if I got this right. A republican operative who actively SUPPORTS a marxist dictatorship regime with no free elections and who murders by the thousands his opponents and refugees in The Congo, was the person who did the report?

Maybe he is lobbying for the president of the Congo for Shrub to meet so Shrub can take lessons from the "president" of the Congo on further vote suppression and maybe some way to "get rid" of any opposition.

I've read the report and it's bias is so bad, they might as well have called it "THE WHITEWASH OF THE REPUBLICAN'S SUPPRESSION OF THE VOTE AND HOW IT WAS ALL DEMOCRATS FAULT"

"AND BILL CLINTON'S FAULT TOO"

What a joke of a report.

With this kind of trash running the ACVR, is it any wonder we lost the last three elections, and will likely lose in 2006?

Now, no one here wants to hear this, but it needs to be said: We don't have a fscking chance in hell of winning back either the House or Senate next year.

And I'll tell you why. The deck is stacked against us. Voting fraud is a reality, and if we want to do anything about it, we need to do it now. The e-voting machines are Republican owned and operated, the software is secret, exit-polling is laughably absent, and no one cares.

Do you seriously believe that if we get more votes than the Republicans that we'll win the election? Not a chance!

Lets put ourselves in their shoes for a moment. If the opposition (Democrats) gain control of just ONE house, just one, they will have the power to order Congressional Subpeonas, Official Investigations, and pretty much be able to slog through the piles of dirty laundury in Washington unopposed. Will you, then, give these panzys the chance to do so in a fair and balanced election? OF COURSE NOT!

A good step foreward is to get people like Brian Lunde the hell out of our democracy's inner workings. Then we need to investigate last year's voter fraud, and use that as basis to reform future elections.

And we need to do it NOW.
