Corrupt Chickens Coming Home To Roost
A press release from the Department of Justice is reporting that current Director of Procurement at the Office of Management and Budget David H. Safavian has been arrested for "making false statements to a GSA (General Services Administration) ethics officer and the GSA-OIG, along with obstruction of a GSA-OIG investigation."
Safavian is the former Chief of Staff as the General Services Administration and is accused of helping "a lobbyist" (Jack Abramoff) acquire GSA property in the Washington, DC. area. Apparently Safavian made false statements to the GSA's Inspector General when he was questioned about a golf trip to Scotland paid for by Abramoff, and attended by Congressman Bob Ney (R-OH) and former Bush campaign official, Ralph Reed.
Safavian also worked with Abramoff in the mid nineties as a lobbyist, traveling with Abramoff to the Common Wealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, in connection with their firm's attempt to prevent United States labor standards from being applied in the US. Territory. Before working with Abramoff, Safavian started a lobbying firm with Americans for Tax Reform founder Grover Norquist called Janus-Merritt Strategies, where the lobbied for a variety of companies including, the National Indian Gaming Association, the Interactive Gaming Council, the Interactive Services Association, the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States
Asked in January of 2005 about Abramoff Safavian said "Jack is an old friend of mine"

LOL, keep up the good work. I think when you look deeper that worm goes all the way to the governor of this state, Ohio also. Of course our governor, Taft, only got his hands slapped pretty much about a month ago. He got a little fine compared to what he done. If he had been a Democrat, the witch hunt would have started from the GOP, and they would have preached about bringing back public hanging. Corruption is rampet here in Ohio throughout the GOP controlled government. One thing I can say, Voinovich at least spoke against Bolton with tears in congress. One would think he might know something, you recon? To have someone speak against another with that much passion says something is in the works. Of course since Bolton has been in the UN, he has shown what a true arrogant asshole he really is to every nation. I guess you could say that's another Bush screw up just like Brownie was. I guess Bush and the GOP are hell bent in destroying the reputation of the US throughout the world. Anyhow, let's see what happens to Bob Ney out of this as I'll guarantee his hands were in the till.

I beleive the shorter bumper sticker version of all this is: K-Street Cronyism and Corruption.
The ring gets smaller and smaller..watch as Abramoff enters the Rove world as well. I wonder why Karl Rove would hire Susan Ralston as his secretary, then promote her to his Special Assistant. She has zero experience as a policy person, he just brings her on board because she had been Jack Abramoff's secretary. Was this favor or what? Just give Jack a direct line into the West Wing, or better yet, why not give him a desk and a chair. I can't think why else you would put a administrative secretary into a commissioned position in the White House.

F.E.C. Sues Republican Group Over Political Contributions
WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 - The Federal Election Commission filed suit Monday against the Club for Growth, a well-funded Republican group, in an effort to force the organization to comply with limits on political contributions.
The suit is the first major enforcement case to involve a "527 committee," the independent political organizations that both Republicans and Democrats used to raise and spend hundreds of millions of dollars in the 2004 races. Commission officials describe it as a test case that could have a major impact on how future elections are financed.
"This is one of the most important suits the commission has brought in the last decade," said Michael Toner, the commission's Republican vice chairman.
Last year's election was the first conducted under the McCain-Feingold law of 2002, which banned political parties from accepting unlimited contributions known as soft money. However, donors continued to direct six- and seven-figure checks to 527 committees, which argued that they could still legally accept unlimited soft money contributions.
After months of legal wrangling last year, the commission declined to adopt new regulations that would specifically require 527 groups to register with the F.E.C. and submit to contribution limits and other regulations. Donors are allowed to give $5,000 to a political action committee each year.
The commission was left with a list of complaints against specific groups, which are now being investigated. The case against the Club for Growth is the first in line.

Let's all hope there's more suits against the GOPs contributors to follow!

Corruption, waste, fraud, and abuse seem to pervade and typify the Bush administration, but sadly, cowardice, lack of character, and a failure to heed the warnings of his top advisors have dragged this administration down into a quagmire of loathing, bogged down by this president’s unwillingness to show the heroism, audacity, and courage of self-sacrifice to manage a situation of his own creation, which would have magnified successes, had he the ability to manage himself and his soldiers in the numbers commensurate with the goals he set for himself and this country.

Carl von Clausewitz writes this in “On War”:
To begin with, clear thought demands that we keep one point in mind of the weight, the burden, the resistance – call it what you like – that challenges the psychological strength of the soldier, only a small part is the direct result of the enemy’s activity, his resistance, or his operations. The direct and primary impact of enemy activity falls, initially, on the soldier’s person without affecting him in his capacity as commander. If, for example, the enemy resists four hours instead of two, the commander is in danger twice as long; but the higher an officer’s rank, the less significant this factor becomes, and to the commander-in-chief it means nothing at all.
A second way in which the enemy’s resistance directly affects the commander is the loss that is caused by prolonged resistance and the influence this exerts on his sense of responsibility. The deep anxiety which he must experience works on his strength of will and puts it to the test. Yet we believe that this is not by any means the heaviest burden he must bear, for he is answerable to himself alone. All other effects of enemy action, however, are felt by the men under his command, and through them react on him.
So long as a unit fights cheerfully, with spirit and élan, great strength of will is rarely needed; but once conditions become difficult, as they must when much is at stake, things no longer run like a well-oiled machine. The machine itself begins to resist, and the commander needs tremendous willpower to overcome this resistance. The machine’s resistance need not consist of disobedience and argument, though this occurs often enough in individual soldiers. It is the impact of the ebbing of moral and physical strength, of the heart-rending spectacle of the dead and wounded, that the commander has to withstand – first in himself, and then in all those who, directly or indirectly, have entrusted him with their thoughts and feelings, hopes and fears. As each man’s strength gives out, as it no longer responds to his will, the inertia of the whole gradually comes to rest on the commander’s will alone. The ardor of his spirit must rekindle the flame of purpose in all others; his inward fire must revive their hope. Only to the extent that he can do this will he retain his hold on his men and keep control. Once that hold is lost, once his own courage can no longer revive the courage of his men, the mass will drag him down to the brutish world where danger is shirked and shame is unknown. Such are the burdens in battle that the commander’s courage and strength of will must overcome if he hopes to achieve outstanding success. The burdens increase with the number of men in his command, and therefore the higher his position, the greater the strength of character he needs to bear the mounting load.
If you are a true Christian, you will pray that God will Bless us in those thing that are according to God's Will, and DEFEAT us in those things that are contrary to God's Will? And if the heart of your being is true and honest you will know what you have done that is wrong? And which ones are right? Some think all this Christian talk is corney but I speak to the true Christians because they know I speak according to God's Word. The effectual fervent prayer of a rightous man,(man is the name of the human race) availeth much James 5-16 To all who don't embrace the Christian faith by studing the New Testament by subjects gives you the perfect tool to show those that claim to be a Christian but their intent(works) show they are not? Many good people follow a person because he has said he is a Christian and they would rather trust a person that says they are a Christian than one whose deeds are those of a Christian but they don't shout it to the people. All true Christians will try to weed out the Wolves in Sheep cloathing that deceive the people into thinking they are so great one! If the true Christian believes in one that is not a true Christian, will he be condemned? As long as there is time and oppertunity for you to repent and ask for forgiveness. God said to the pure all things are pure. Those that claim to be a Christian and they are not, are the most evil amoung us! Those that put on,by word, the cloak of Christanity and the fruits of their intent(labor) are evil and God said will try to deceive the very elect(the purest Christians). If you take all the scriptures pertaining to a single subject and rightly divide(comprehend), you will know who is and who is not a true Christian. If I have written anything you find to be untrue, tell me about it?

Tyco Exec: Abramoff Claimed Ties to Administration
By R. Jeffrey Smith
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, September 23, 2005; Page A06
Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff bragged two years ago that he was in contact with White House political aide Karl Rove on behalf of a large, Bermuda-based corporation that wanted to avoid incurring some taxes and continue receiving federal contracts, according to a written statement by President Bush's nominee to be deputy attorney general.
Timothy E. Flanigan, general counsel for conglomerate Tyco International Ltd., said in a statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee last week that Abramoff's lobbying firm initially boasted that Abramoff could help Tyco fend off a special liability tax because he "had good relationships with members of Congress," including House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.).
Abramoff later said "he had contact with Mr. Karl Rove" about the issue, according to the statement by Flanigan, who oversaw Tyco's dealings with Abramoff and his firm and received reports from Abramoff about progress in the lobbying campaign. Flanigan's statement is the latest indication that Abramoff promoted himself as having ready access to senior officials in the Bush administration.
A White House spokeswoman, Erin Healy, said Rove "has no recollection" of being contacted by Abramoff about Tyco's concerns.
Abramoff was indicted last month on unrelated wire fraud and conspiracy charges and has lost his high-stakes lobbying clients. He was hired in 2003 by Tyco when the company was in turmoil. Abramoff's firm, Greenberg Traurig, promoted him as Tyco's savior on the tax issue, according to Flanigan's statement and others familiar with the process.
Tyco -- whose executive L. Dennis Kozlowski had just departed under an ethics cloud -- was worried that the Bush administration might embrace legislation promoted by Democrats that would impose higher taxes on domestic-centered companies that had moved offshore to cut their tax bills. The legislation was motivated by popular anger over such offshore moves, and carried the additional penalty of barring such firms from receiving federal contracts.
Lobbying disclosure statements filed by Abramoff listing his work for Tyco cite the "Executive Office of the President" as one of his lobbying targets on the tax and contracts issues. Others were the Department of Commerce, the General Services Administration and Congress. Greenberg Traurig records submitted to Tyco describe specific contacts with the White House legislative office, a source familiar with the matter said yesterday.
Rove's personal assistant at the time, Susan Ralston, formerly worked as Abramoff's secretary. It could not be learned yesterday whether she was among those contacted by any of the 14-person Greenberg team recorded as working on the Tyco account.
The Bush administration was never enthusiastic about the tax penalty, but both the House and Senate approved language in 2002 denying federal contracts to companies largely based in the United States but incorporated in tax havens.
Tyco was among a raft of companies, including Ingersoll-Rand and Noble Corp., that hired an army of lobbyists to stall the legislation and ultimately kill most of it. House Republican leaders argued that corporate flight was merely a symptom of a much broader problem with the U.S. tax code that should be treated in a larger tax reform package.
Abramoff remains the focus of a lengthy investigation by a task force led by prosecutors at the Justice Department and including investigators at the Internal Revenue Service, the Interior Department and General Services Administration. The probe was initially focused on whether he bilked Native American tribes that paid him tens of millions of dollars in lobbying and other fees, but has since widened to include other matters.
Flanigan, who is still at Tyco while awaiting a committee vote on his nomination, said in his Sept. 15 written statement that he would "consult with DOJ ethics officials . . . and apply normal recusal standards" about the Justice Department's investigation of Abramoff.
Flanigan said he would recuse himself from any Abramoff investigation involving Tyco. Portions of his statement were first reported in the Los Angeles Times.
The ties between Tyco and Greenberg Traurig have already been investigated by a special counsel appointed by Greenberg to examine Abramoff's activities at the firm. According to knowledgeable sources and Flanigan's written statement, Greenberg has promised to repay three-quarters of a $2 million fee that Tyco paid, at Abramoff's direction, to a firm called Grassroots Interactive.
The fee was supposed to finance a letter-writing campaign by Tyco suppliers against the offshore tax bill, but Greenberg concluded that $1.5 million of it was "diverted to entities controlled by Mr. Abramoff" and misspent, according to Flanigan's statement.
Andrew Blum, a spokesman for Abramoff's law firm, declined to comment, as did Jill Perry, a spokeswoman for Greenberg Traurig.

What do ya think?
Are there any honest men and women in the Republican party willing to speak up against this gross incompetence and corruption? The only way we are going to rid our country of this dirt and slime is with help from the other side. Please step forward and don't be afraid to speak up.
