Missed the changeover. To repost:

That's nothing new, in fact, it comes with the territory. The Democrats are the only true big-tent party, notwithstanding that the Republicans try to talk a good game on that front.
In 1948, Truman saw both the right wing and the left wing of his party defect and nominate other candidates. Yet he still won the election.
Seems to me that Democrats don't do as good a job as pulling together when times get tough as they once did. Of course, the attitude of "Give 'Em Hell, Harry" didn't hurt on that front, either.
Some of the comments I've seen on this blog disturb me, however. 2004 was not a re-run of 1984, not by a longshot, but you'd never know that if you're only source of information was what you read here. Instead of exposing W's claimed "mandate" as the lie we all knew it to be, too many people have turned on Kerry instead.
that entire tax discussion is pathetic and irrelevant in the face of Bushco's corruption and war and wholesale assault on the environment. used to be one could have a great discussion on tax fairness; progressiviety, etc.; used to be there were TRUE conservatives out there with whom to have a good, idea-filled discussion.
Now, when I hear a Repug moan about "well Bush ain't great but I'm for lower taxes and I'm a hawk," I want to throw up. We CANNOT AFFORD Bush's insane, tax-your-grandchildren fiscal catastrophe. And the people DYING in Iraq are NOT the friggin' chickenhawks that pushed that godawful occupation.
It's the epitome of blindness and SELFISHNESS to vote Republican these days. IMHO.

Labels are useless and a waste of time.
KISS: People vote for Rebublicans because they think that they will protect them from "baddies" and ensure that all their hard-earned money remains in their hands.
People vote for Democrats because they believe that the Democrats will ensure that the less fortunate are cared for, that civil rights are maintained and that we get entangled in less wars.
Right or wrong.
and to reiterate the complete stupidity of the current disaster posing as fiscal policy, or to answer those who temporize, "oh but why tax estates?"
Here's a fact getting far too little attention: The cost this year alone of the Bush tax cuts enacted in 2001 and 2003 comes to $225 billion. In other words, the revenue lost because of tax cuts going through this year without any congressional action would more than pay the costs of Katrina recovery.
We cannot afford any more tax cuts to Bush's friends. We need to rescind many of those the corrupt Congress passed.
too many people have turned on Kerry instead
Just because some won't "walk on water" and "worship" the guy does not mean they have "turned on him". He had his shot. Now it's time to "move on". You and mj seem to think we have to stick with him for the rest of lives and that ain't the case.
Only one day to go before the historic Peace March with a gathering of over 100,000 in Washington, D.C.
Remember, patriotism is holding government accountable for their actions. That is what tomorrow is all about.
Posted by Domingo on September 23, 2005 at 05:21 PM
If there was a better candidate out there, I would happily move on. Hillary will not win. Most men don't like her and many women don't trust her---more importantly, she's a woman and a woman can't win, not now.
You are right that Kerry had a chance, but was it a "fair" chance???
Labels are useless and a waste of time.

Not for Republicans they don't seem to be. How many times have these clowns come in here and called the Democrats socialist and communist? They've got a lot of nerve. Now this troll is trying to pull a fast one by claiming he "just wants to reform the party for it's own good by kicking the commies out and bring the Republicans in, so we can win of course!"
Posted by KevinSchmidtVA on September 23, 2005 at 05:25 PM re: the march in Washington
Yes, It's just too bad that the total number of Democratic elected Congressman who have committed to being there can be counted on the first two fingers of my left hand.
sorry, my computer didn't catch the switch, and I then had to sign in again and list my thought, but here.
Firefly, in what you said, I'm tired of it two, thats why I was going to start a new party, but to confront two parties that have successfully edged out the rest is a little too difficult, that is why we have to do something now, call a convention, impeach, vote-of-no-confidence!
ps. Thanks for the sport! Firefly, It gave me a smile, now I have a rival. BOOhahahah, anyway I was just listing what I saw as the divisions, many times we switch, and I've been known to have a hellish fury!
which troll domingo? I'm lost all of a sudden, I don't think its bad to have socialist/communist view in the party

The Natinal Democratic Party
---The People's Party of the United States
In recent news, the Democrats attempt to regain their status as the peoples party. Dedicated to representing the average Joe and Jane, accepting of all hard working open minded people in America. Our blood bleeds blue! We are still the moral, family based, union led, worker's rights, diversity orientated, religiously conscious, student fed, eco-friendly, brotherly, sisterly, America First!, globally helpful, group of people we claim to be.
we need to get back to our roots!
Who's we? You got a tapeworm or something?

Why the hostility? Did I miss something? Is it wrong for a poster to express an opinion that the party needs some work?
Posted by MoJoeH on September 23, 2005 at 05:41 PM
Has anybody noticed that the "history" of our party as found on THIS WEBSITE does not even mention the words "labor union?"
Not much hope for us if our own party leaders don't know our party history.

Sweetheart, which post of mine are you referening with this?
Christian school in California expels girl because parents are lesbians
(AP) - ONTARIO, California-A 14-year-old student was expelled from a Christian school because her parents are lesbians, the school's superintendent said in a letter.
Shay Clark was expelled from Ontario Christian School on Thursday.
"Your family does not meet the policies of admission," Superintendent Leonard Stob wrote to Tina Clark, the girl's biological mother.
[…]
Clark and her partner have been together 22 years and have two other daughters, ages 9 and 19.
Why is so much time and energy being spent on the "Reject Roberts" campaign, yes I sent letters to editors on the subject, when Democrats on the Judiciary Committee have already voted to send him to the full senate.
It seems to me there are alot of other fronts that would be more fruitful, e.g., Spiraling Deficit as a result of the tax cuts to the wealthiest, gross incompetence handling Katrina which by extension means the Republicans would do a a very bad job of "protecting us", ad naseum.
Whoever is driving the bus over there at the DNC needs to re-read "The Art of War", by that I mean attack where they are weak, avoid where they are strong. Let's not wast time, effort and resources on lost causes!
Firefly, the one you said that you were tired of it all! I had said that I was too and had considered strarting something new after the last election
Blue, its ok, Domingo and I are having some idealogical differences on purpose, nothing to worry about. Thanks for the back up! Sinse some of you weren't here earlier, I'll ge tthe list some of us were discussing.
The insanity is affecting blue states now?
Okay, let's just start the Fifth Crusade (I think, unless I lost track) and be done with it.
Why the hostility? Did I miss something? Is it wrong for a poster to express an opinion that the party needs some work?
Yeah, I get hostile when somebody comes in here telling us what's wrong with the Democratic party and how it will all be fixed if "we" just do as he tells us. Especially when so much of it sounds like Republican talking points.
hurricane hits new orleans...it is clear BUSH DID NOT GIVE A DAMN...stayed on vacation...now hurricane threatens RICH PEOPLE AND OIL FIELDS ..bush is going off the deep end..he is in comand center ...and sending far more resources than necesary...when hurricane hit galviston in 1900.it was a large middle class city...then the land was bought up by rich people for pennys on the dollar..today its a rich mans paradise...wonder what new orleans will become,,,rich people are allready buying for pennys on the dollar...its a real estate agents dream..they are chasing down property owners all over the us..and buying cheap...and the tax payer will finance the buy out

I don't need something new. I think we need to take control of the party we already have and stop leaving it to bureaucrats who've been too far removed from the common man for too long to to know what is worth fighting for and how to fight.

Were you around when Tony used to post here? If the blog could withstand that it can withstand anybody's venting and ranting.

Personally, I don't object to the first part of that but I do object to the second.
DOMINGO
In that case, you can go kiss you ass!
I am a leftwing liberal democrat and have been all my life. I have friends of all different races religions and backgrounds, I have lead coalitions on minority issues, I've lead marches and worked on campaigns such as Harry O, Jan S, and Obama from Ill., I've dated all sorts and am Gay! I come from a military/union based family and have never ever been even accused of being a republican! I consider myself to be open minded!
Now back to the real business of the blog.....
Jeez, guys chill. We all have our ideas on how the party needs to be "fixed". IMO, a strong leader to stand behind would be a good start. And, despite all the labels, we are all dems.
You know, I think our frustration and depression is getting to us.
I thought it was just me, but now I'm thinking, not so much.
I agree blue, we need to start at the top and work it out, I'm sorry that I took the defensive, but I was thinking we were having polite conversation and debate and It wasn't nice to be personally attacked because I thought we needed some changes. Sorry for the outburst, it won't happen again.
Personally, I don't object to the first part of that but I do object to the second.

Anyone who starts calling people "commies" around here sure sounds like a Repug to me.
problem we have in the democrat party...is when a republican like our last governor knows he wont be reelected..some one like BREDESEN runs as a democrat,,,and because he claims to be a democrat..people who have no knowledge of this person..thinks he would make a president...and we got far to many republicans in the democrat party..and fellow democrats wont speak out...and if this party dont return to it roots..the blue collar worker...this party will fade out like other partys have...because the majority of americans wont vote for radical changes..there are some democrats i would not vote for under any conditions...if the democrats believe hillary clinton would be elected they are out of touch with the voters...the same goes for all the left wing candidates...the party needs new leadership...last election mike brown must of been in charge
SCOTTY TACKLES THE MYSTERIOUS BIANCA:
Q Who makes up the list of reporters that he is allowed to call on?
Q Yes, where's Bianca? (Laughter.)
MR. McCLELLAN: Who makes up the list? It depends on the reporters that show up. I don't think she had a question. But the President --
Q Who is Bianca, anyway?
MR. McCLELLAN: I think the President had his most recent press conference this afternoon just a short time before I was out here, took questions from I think everyone who was there.
Q -- you count that as a press conference?
MR. McCLELLAN: Well, I think it was a 30-minute briefing and several questions taken. I think I would call it a press conference.
Q Does anyone know who she is?
It is difficult to recognize and then accept that we need change. Many in the party believe those that want change don't belong, the problem is that the change happened over time and turned us from our mission. If that mission has changed and the party has changed so much that it cannot accept difference any longer, than maybe we are to blame for people leaving the party, and maybe some of us more progressive members should allow the Democrats to become rebublican by themselves as they grow more conservative in their older years. Thats being the devils advocate by the way.
Join This Weekend's Anti-War Fight
By Laura Barcella, AlterNet. Posted September 23, 2005.
Tomorrow, thousands of people will mobilize in DC -- and scores of other cities nationwide -- to voice opposition to the war in Iraq. Here's where to go if you're not in Washington.
This weekend's D.C. march, organized by United for Peace and Justice, promises to be a gathering of historic proportions -- and it couldn't come at a better time.
Thankfully, the action won't just be limited to Washington. Activist groups across the country are organizing Peace Gatherings in cities nationwide.
Let your voice be heard -- check out our list, below, of state-by-state anti-war events to support this weekend.
Now back to the real business of the blog.....
Tell us the real business of the blog then. I'm sure it must involve you telling all "what we should do".
Posted by Domingo on September 23, 2005 at 06:21 PM
D, I had a feeling you'd probably misunderstand what I wrote. I need to rephrase it.
I meant that I personally do not object to people with strong ideas saying that everything will be better if we just do things their way. I do have a problem with those ideas sounding like Republican talking points.
re: and we got far to many republicans in the democrat party..and fellow democrats wont speak out...and if this party dont return to it roots..the blue collar worker...this party will fade out like other partys have...because the majority of americans wont vote for radical changes.

This is what I've been trying to say the entire day. I don't want us to die out because our liberal 60's and 70's era dems are becoming more conservative in their upper years and are changing the party. Its hard to be progressive in a progressive people's party when the party is becoming conservative. That isn't the answer, the answer is to go back to what we were founded upon, the worker, the average Joe and Jane
OK Firefly, the second part sounds better than what I thought you were saying. But on the first part I still don't agree. To many people come in here and try to force their ideas on everybody else which no one has the right to do. It's like how BlueinIdaho asked me if I remembered "Tony" and his "I'm right and you're all wrong" crap all day everyday. Of couse I remember that and this sounds almost just like it.
Have a good weekend dems! Remember who the real war is with...our dictator-in-chief who couldn't lead a cheer, let alone a country.
Domingo, I'm sorry that you continue to be upset about the dialogue we had. I, however, refuse to lower myself to that level anymore. I was trying to express my opinion in polite conversation and debate and be open minded to other views. I am proud to be a Democrat and it is difficult to say that it needs change. You chose to demean my comments as republican and close your mind. That is your choice. I'm sorry that you feel you need a leader to listen to or need to lead the blog yourself, I thought the blog was an open place to discuss the party. In the case of the business of the blog, I was referring to the idea that this blog was meant to bring together democrats of all different background to exchange information and opinion for the benefit our party. I am new to the blog, just started yesterday, but I may be wrong.
Posted by Domingo on September 23, 2005 at 06:35 PM
Like with anything else, it depends how you do it, but I'll be straight. I think many in our party and almost everyone leading our party need a good strong kick in the ass so that they'll find the courage to do something besides the same old actions as prescribed by our party leadership.
We say that we need powerful leadership with a message, but we silence some of the voices among us that might actually carry that message because we're all hung up on fighting over small things.
Some people are just assholes. Some are visionaries though, and visionaries are always greeted at first as if they were just assholes.
It seems to me there are alot of other fronts that would be more fruitful, e.g., Spiraling Deficit as a result of the tax cuts to the wealthiest, gross incompetence handling Katrina which by extension means the Republicans would do a a very bad job of "protecting us", ad naseum.

Why is it assumed that the Dems can only do one thing at a time? We HAVE to reject the idea of Roberts, because if/when he gets in and starts making decisions which change Americans way of life, we have to look like we fought it!!! something like 60% of the American public polled, say they do not want see RoevWade overturned. We don't look weak enough?????We have to let them take this one like a piece of candy from a baby?
Welcome back Paul---from VA right? We had a paul on earlier from Portland. and Good evening, have a drink yet? its getting deep in here.
Pam you're right! We needed to fight Roberts so that we could take the high road. I only hope that he remains a judge and not a party player. Our next battle, and our immediate danger is the next Supreme Court judge and the elections coming up.
Dear Dr. Dean,
I voted for you in the Arizona Democratic presidential primary. I was also thrilled when you became party chairman because you want Democrats to be Democrats again.
With this in mind, I hope you look into what is happening in Flagstaff, AZ. By a four to three vote, the City Council in this overwhelmingly Democratic community passed on first reading an anti-camping law that creates fines and jail terms for people -- including the homeless -- who sleep outside.
Sadly, Democrats cast three of the four votes backing this measure, which is slated to get a final reading on Oct. 4.
I'm particularly concerned by the vote of Democratic Councilwoman Karen Cooper, who votes progressively on environmental issues. After speaking with her by phone, I sent her an e-mail asking her to abstain from voting on issues affecting homeless people until the community decides whether it wants to create a detox center and shelter to offer homeless folks alternatives to the street or jail. I haven't gotten a response.
Surely anold-fashioned Democrat can delay casting the deciding vote on such a controversial measure until Flagstaff finalizes plans in connection with a detox center and homeless shelter.

Could it be someone is slipping some Viagra in the Democrats drinking water at the capital???
Congressional Democrats, signaling plans to become more assertive about Iraq, yesterday asked the director of national intelligence to brief senators on conditions there, including whether the conflict has strengthened Islamic terrorists rather than weakened them.
In a letter to director John D. Negroponte, top Democratic senators said they need more information on the anti-U.S. insurgency, allied support, training of Iraqi security forces and many other topics.
Now why would Bush lie about this? Could it be to give the illusion "better to fight them over there than here" a more realistic face?
The US and Iraqi governments have vastly overstated the number of foreign fighters in Iraq, and most of them don't come from Saudi Arabia, according to a new report from the Washington-based Center for Strategic International Studies (CSIS). According to a piece in The Guardian, this means the US and Iraq "feed the myth" that foreign fighters are the backbone of the insurgency. While the foreign fighters may stoke the incurgency flames, they only comprise only about 4 to 10 percent of the estimated 30,000 insurgents.
Pam thats a start in the right direction with them asking about the status of Iraq, thanks for the link
Evening, peeps. Just cruising thru on my way to the Yankee game. I see my fellow NY stater Terry was or is here. The baby must have been born by now, right? Girl or boy and did he/she get a "T" name?
In the wake of Katrina, the President is booed by the media, the polls ... and the Republicans.
George W. Bush, who is presently spending his time along the Gulf of Mexico (he expects to go to Texas today), now has to fight on two fronts: Katrina and Rita. "The United States is prepared for the worst," he declared yesterday. And he himself first of all. For he must confront some strong political precipitation. On the left, displeasure grows, passing from Level 1 to Level 5 on the scale of aggravation. After having been ostracized in the name of patriotism, the anti-Iraq war movement now enjoys a field day. In the polls, the majority of Americans desire a quick withdrawal from Iraq, the only way to finance reparations for hurricane damage. Saturday, a new anti-Bush demonstration was organized on the Mall, in the center of Washington. The demonstration's slogan: "From Iraq to New Orleans, money for people's needs, not the war machine!"
Posted by PamB on September 23, 2005 at 06:41 PM
PamB, I got a e-mail from the DNC that answers that, but i was trying to find it linked on the blog somewhere so as not to need to post the whole thing. Can't find it though, so here's part of it.
A few weeks ago more than 100,000 of us filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for key documents on Supreme Court nominee John Roberts. This week, just before the legal deadline for a response, the Justice Department formally brushed aside the public interest and refused to release the documents.
Senate Democrats waited for the Bush Administration to come clean about Roberts's record -- the administration chose not to. During the hearings, they asked Roberts serious, precise questions about his record and his views -- but Roberts dodged question after question.
Our Senate Leader, Harry Reid, is right: there are simply too many questions left unanswered. John Roberts, and the sham process that has accompanied his nomination, does not deserve our support.
But it is obvious that the Republican-controlled Senate will confirm John Roberts. Some people even say that it's useless for us to speak out against him. They say we're wasting our time.
But how will we win any battle if we don't stand up for what we believe and speak the truth? More importantly, how will Americans know what to expect from a Democratic Congress and Democratic president if we don't fight for our values at every opportunity?

The ignorant idiot is STILL trying to link Iraq Invasion with 9/11 !!!!
With opponents of the war in Iraq planning a major protest in Washington this weekend, the president acknowledged that there were differences of opinion about Iraq and that he knew that many people believed the only way to curtail the violence in Iraq was to bring home American forces.
"I recognize their good intentions, but their position is wrong," the president said. "Withdrawing our troops would make the world more dangerous."
Mr. Bush said that "to leave Iraq now would be to repeat the costly mistakes of the past that led to the attacks of September the 11th, 2001."
That isn't the answer, the answer is to go back to what we were founded upon, the worker, the average Joe and Jane

There really is no middle class anymore.
I only see Poor, Moderately Poor, lower class, upper class and the Wealthy!
Something needs to happen to smooth that out. The jump is getting way too hard to make. (jmo) And way too easy to lose!

You're right Dawnelle, but I put the average Joe/Jane with your McDonald's people, they are whats left of the middle class, they are the lower Middle Class, or poor. They struggle day to day just to make ends meet. I would struggle to say we still have a Upper Middle, middle, and lower middle class, then it really jumps to rich and filthy rich
by me
Filthy Rich -1 mil or more
Rich 100,000+
Uppermiddle Class 60-80,000
Middle Class 40-60,000
Lower Middle Class 25-40,000
Lower Class 10-15,000
Poor 10,000-
I know Cyn, I couldn't get over 102, and he said she still had her full facilities!

Right, They need to say, what they do in the privacy of their own homes is their own business, we don't ask if you play doctor with your wife! and stick to the real issues, war, poverty, education, jobs, etc
I remember when LBJ gave his speech on TV announcing the War on Poverty. Mid 60's I believe. Forty years. That's a long war. Are we winning yet? If not, why not? Look at New Orleans. People are dead because they were poor and couldn't escape. That's been Democratic territory for years. Why are we stuck ? People want solutions - Not more of the same.
I don't have the answer. Wish I did.

It is in Saudi Arabia's best interest if we stay in Iraq. They will remain the oil superpower and they will watch with hidden glee America's continued slide into a has-been, 3rd world country that can't afford to take care of their own. Posted by BlueinIdaho on September 23, 2005 at 05:10 PM
Oil is not what Saudi Arabia's interest is in Iraq. It's a religious civil war on par with the Catholics and Protestants in Ireland. Saudi Arabia wants to keep Iraq under Sunni control, that's why their country's fighters are going in there to kill Shias. There have been reports that British and American forces have been dressing up like Saudis to plant car bombs and kill Shias too.
Why are we stuck ? People want solutions - Not more of the same.
Republican people don't want solutions. They think it went to far and they want to roll it all back.
This is how "moron" keeps us safe.
New Orleans Deals With New Round of Floods
NEW ORLEANS - Hurricane Rita's wind and rain breached two of New Orleans' battered levees Friday and sent water gushing into already-devastated neighborhoods just days after they had been pumped dry.

Sweet Victory: Cities Push for Pullout
~snip~
But, as tens of thousands of citizens are set to converge on the Mall this weekend for what could be the largest US protest yet against the Iraq war, and with some of America's largest cities having passed resolutions calling for a pullout, ignoring the public may no longer be politically tenable.
Last week, the Chicago City Council voted 29 to 9 to become the largest US city to pass the "Bring Them Home Now" resolution. The Windy City joins Philadelphia, San Francisco, and more than fifty other municipalities that have called for withdrawal.
Another incompetent Bush crony hack bites the dust.
FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford Resigns
His three-year tenure at FDA was marked by increasing criticism and a particularly rocky final 12 months. The painkiller Vioxx was pulled off the market for safety problems, FDA was embarrassed last fall when its British counterparts shut down a supplier of U.S. flu vaccine for tainted shots, and over the summer recalls of malfunctioning heart devices mounted.
Finally last month, morale at the agency plummeted when Crawford indefinitely postponed nonprescription sales of emergency contraception over the objections of staff scientists who had declared the pill safe. FDA's women's health chief resigned in protest.
Dumping of Homeless Suspected Downtown
Police captain says he witnessed the long- rumored act. Sheriff defends his deputies.
For decades, it's been an enduring urban tale about downtown Los Angeles, often talked about but never proved: Police departments wanting to get rid of society's lost and neglected — the homeless, mentally ill and criminals — simply drove through downtown and dumped them in skid row.
But on Tuesday, evidence landed in the lap of the person who most needed it: Capt. Andrew Smith, commanding officer of the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Division.
Smith said he was out on patrol with his partner about 10 a.m. Tuesday when he noticed a Los Angeles County sheriff's car driving down 6th Street.
The cruiser, he said, turned south on San Pedro, then west on 7th Street to San Julian Street. There, Smith watched in disbelief as two deputies "pulled over, took a guy in handcuffs out of the car. They took off the cuffs and handed him a bag," Smith said.
ahahaha, the rats are jumping off the ship!!!
Despite the official government line that Britain's 8,500 servicemen and women would stay in Iraq "as long as necessary", Blair had been studying plans for a phased withdrawal, reports said.
The prime minister had "locked himself away" in the government country retreat at Chequers to ponder the plans in which aides suggested a "wholesale review designed to speed up withdrawal".
If you want to see the true face of war, go to the amateur porn Web site NowThatsFuckedUp.com. For almost a year, American soldiers stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan have been taking photographs of dead bodies, many of them horribly mutilated or blown to pieces, and sending them to Web site administrator Chris Wilson. In return for letting him post these images, Wilson gives the soldiers free access to his site. American soldiers have been using the pictures of disfigured Iraqi corpses as currency to buy pornography.
How do you create a "terrorist haven"? By creating a "failed state". That's what moron Junior has done. Taken a working state and turned it into a failed state. Way to go, you moron! You just made us "less safe".
Let your voice be heard -- check out our list, below, of state-by-state anti-war events to support this weekend.

It sure would be welcome for some of the Democratic "leaders" to join us. I guess I'm waiting for pigs to fly, huh?
Top Democrats won't attend anti-war rally in Washington
WASHINGTON - (KRT) - As the anti-war movement arrives in Washington this weekend, many top Democrats are leaving.
Nationally known Democratic war critics, including Howard Dean, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, Russell Feingold of Wisconsin and John Kerry of Massachusetts, won't attend what sponsors say will be a big anti-war rally Saturday in Washington.
The only Democratic officeholders who plan to address the rally are Reps. Cynthia McKinney of Georgia and John Conyers of Michigan.
Today's leading Democrats head a party divided over the war, and many leaders are wary of standing with anti-war activists, who represent much of the party's base. The divide between anti-war activists and Democratic leaders underscores a challenge the party faces in the 2006 congressional elections and beyond. Some activists say that Democrats such as Clinton and Kerry who criticize the war but refuse to demand a timetable for withdrawal are effectively supporting the status quo - and may not merit future support.
well i may not have a solution to all poverty,,but it would generate enough revenue to pay for new orleans..and maybe the national debt..with out raising taxes....now what is the core cause of poverty..and illegal immigration..its called TEMPORARY LABOR,,it pays no taxs.no social security..no workmans comp.or unemployment tax..today allmost all business take advantage of this break..if a business has a high employe turn over..its insurance rates go up..not so using temporary labor..fail drug test loss 12hr job next day come back as temporary labor at minimum wage,,temporay labor often holds taxes from check.and pockets money..a lot of people work for years on same job,,yet it temporary labor..and all building contractors use the community kitchen as a labor pool..pay 30 a day..today i would guess 90% of construction workers are temporary workers paid cash..lets see if i hire you on a pay roll,,,and paid you 5.50 a hour..220 a week..it cost you 30 social security..my cost 30 social security..10 worker comp/and paper work..plus liability..so wouldnt it be cheaper to just give you 6 cash..and not face liability...the goverment is losing millions every week in taxs..employees have no protection..and are paid wages which create the poverty..today we have thousands of illegal immigrants making 30 a day..thats big money when converted into mexican money...americans have to live on the 30 in america...there is no way americans can compete
Good Evening Everyone! Is anyone still around or did sawmiller cause the blog to implode?
Hi Marc! I'm doing my best to keep things moving forward...sorry I've been so quiet over the last few weeks. It's been a bit of a tough road for us but things will turn around and get better.
QUOTE FROM George W. Bush THIS WEEK:
"Some Americans want us to withdraw our troops so that we can escape the violence," Bush said. "I recognize their good intentions, but their position is WRONG. Withdrawing our troops would make the world more dangerous and make America less safe."
IS ANYONE ELSE OFFENDED BY BEING TOLD BY BUSH THAT "THEIR POSITION IS WRONG", WHEN THE PERSON SAYING THAT (G.W. BUSH) IS THE VERY SAME PERSON WHO HAS BEEN WRONG ABOUT EVERYTHING RE: THIS IRAQ FIASCO, FROM THE PRESENCE OF WMD, WHICH WAS THE ALLEGED REASON FOR INVADING IRAQ IN THE FIRST PLACE, TO THE STRENGTH OF THE INSURGENCY, TO THINKING THAT "BRING 'EM ON" IS THE RIGHT THING TO SAY TO THE WORLD!
According to CNN/USA Today, most Americans don't think the Iraq War is winnable. Seems like nobody trusts POTUS anymore.

I understand better than you might realize. You have email that goes into it.
I have to run, but call if you need a sympathetic ear, or if you want someone to visit as a change.
For all the others on the blog, HI! Its been a very busy day, so no posting for me (except these two).
Have a great weekend, and for those heading to DC... wish I were close enough to join you, but its a tad too far from here in Seattle!
Doesn't look like the link is working. But I've set up a poll on my Web site, middleamericachronicle.blogspot.com
Feel free to stop by and vote...
Personally, the war is winnable, but we need help at nation building. There's no shame in admitting that it's not something America does well.
"There are a number of diaries recently expressing shock at various Democrats announced votes on the Roberts confirmation (Feingold "Yes", Hillary "No", for instance). So far, I haven't seen any that are particularly surprising.
To figure out how people are going to come down, you simply need to look at several factors. . .
Any Democrat considering a run for President in 2008 is going to vote "No". No one wants the next Howard Dean nipping at their heels.
Any Democrat seriously considering leading a filibuster of the next nominee and planning to keep the gang of fourteen on board is going to vote "Yes". Voting "No" on Roberts would allow, in fact almost require, the Republican G14 members to break ranks under pressure ("Come on, de Wine, this guy even voted "No" on Roberts!"). Conversely, voting "Yes" on Roberts strengthens the Democrat's argument with the seven Republicans who will matter ("Listen guys, I'm reasonable, I even voted for Roberts. But Judge Hitler really is an exceptional circumstance!").
middleamerica...there isn't any part of the UN that is going to step in to help us out in Iraq. After Bush has shown is complete lack of respect and pure contempt for them most of these countries leaders are ready to let him finally get what he deserves the shame of his failures.
Not to mention that at this point these nations have far more respect for their citizens and soldiers and will not put them in harms way for Bush's lies...it is too bad our Democrat leadership doesn't stand up to this liar in chief.
Unfortunately, many more will suffer before Bush ever admits that he is an incompetent liar that only got ahead because of his family name and not on his own merit and accomplishments.

The Democrats in Congress are missing such an amazing opportunity tomorrow in D.C., it is beyond belief. It's like Martin Luther King not showing up for his "I Have A Dream" speech. Their absence and silence roars with cowardly compliance to their Neoconfederate Fascist Rethug Masters.
I am particularly disappointed that Howard Dean also choose to run with his tail between his legs from such a historic event. How is he going to lead by example and get the Democrats to grow spines if he too does an invertebrate imitation? This is a terrible mistake for him to make by not showing up tomorrow.
I am beginning to wonder what the point is of the DNC if they refuse to show up and support Cindy Sheehan and her Peace Gathering tomorrow. This is a no brainer with two thirds of America in support of Cindy's efforts to end the bogus Iraqi war.
Well DNC, what the hell are you waiting for? This is your moment to take the lead handed to you on a silver platter by Cindy Sheehan, and you are blowing it big time!
Either lead, follow or get out of the way. By choosing more silence, you are continuing to create a huge vacuum that is continuing to be filled by more Rethugs.
And don't give me that scheduling conflict crap. You knew about tomorrow for two months! The only scheduling conflict is for you guys to finally become real Democrats instead of remaining spineless DINOs bullied by the Rethugs.
Calling Ralph Nader...
just a thought about temporary labor..do you know.if the construction workers in new orleans,,was paid 12hr,,most will work 60hr per week..the best i can estimate the goverment would take in 250,000 per week in social securty taxs..and 200,000 in income tax..but remember most of these workers will be temporary workers at 30 a day,,and the bosses will cover the labor cost,as material cost,,and very little taxes will be paid..and the workers will be as poor as ever..and the insurance companies will be paying the contractor..well above the 12hr i mentioned..thats extra money in the contractors pocket..when i was doing construction i made 15hr the insurance company was paying the boss 24hr for my labor..all these insurance estimates will include top labor rates,,,and be done for 30 a day
and a little simple math ,will show where the goverment would take enough taxes, from these construction workers to build new orleans, in less time than the workers could rebuild the city..just take my numbers to any accountant..by the time new orleans was rebuilt the goverment would be turning a profit..so low wages is the problem
They all make quite a lot, like the electricians, they make anywhere from 1000-2000 a week, are placed in hotels and fed for free at good restaurants and steak houses, breakfasted and etc. They work from 12 to 36 hours in a row on shifts and work as long as needed. In somecases they can make 10,000 a month!
Sawmiller, you need to take a break and read up on what is really happening down there.
So what has President Bush done to deal with this failure of the national economy to provide most people with a living wage and basic benefits, and the desperate need of Gulf Coast people for jobs and income? He has lowered wage standards. In New Orleans, he suspended the Davis-Bacon laws that require federal contractors to pay at least the area’s prevailing wages and benefits. And nationwide, he has failed to hike the minimum wage, which now stands at a miserable $5.15 per hour. If it had merely kept up with inflation, it would be at $7 today.
hello democrats!!
I got thrown off the DFA blog. They told me I'd find HOWARD DEAN here!! Where is he?
I was hoping HOWARD would be in washington to speak at the protest. He is the head of the party. He was against the war from the start. He deserves to be there and I deserve to see him there. He doesn't have to scream again...just show his face.
I just can't figure out how to go back and forth without leaving one blog. I might be back. Y'all tell HOWARD I'm looking for him please.
check out my art work.
george bush has made me go mad.
Hi Sadie! Good to see your here!
I got kicked off too! Several times. Each time it was because I went up against Robert the Republican talking points parrot. Strange how he never seems to get kicked off even though some of his posts are highly insulting and of course out right lies.
They should just rename DFA as "Robert's Republican Rants", and be done with it.
thats what i am saying the wages in new orleans are to low..these contractors will bring in cheap labor and take advantage of existing labor..yes some electric workers are making money..but these are workers who are ligimate workers for ele.companies,,not the building contractors who i am referring to who will do most of the work in rebuilding the city...i worked in hurricane hugo a few years ago..even came to tn to pick up cheap labor..if i was younger and not so lazy,,i would take my dump truck and backhoe and go south,,and pick up more money than a worker could in a life time
sawmiller. There's no electricians down in New Orleans making making 10,000 a month. That's just more Flush Limpballs style Republican lies.
hey guys, never be able to catch up since the last time i've read, but i'm blogging from my hotel room in d.c. tomorrow morning i'm going to the ellipse at the white house for the rally and march. here's a plea for help so that the rally and speakers can be covered on cspan:
Support the Massive Unity Rally and March Against the War
We Can Reach Millions - With Your Help
Help us Broadcast Tomorrow's Rally Live on National TV
On Saturday all the major antiwar groups will come together for the massive rally at the White House and march, but it is the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition that has the full responsibility for the costs of the stage, sound, and setup at the joint rally, where the major speakers will appear.
Please help A.N.S.W.E.R. meet these large expenses by
clicking here to donate.
Tomorrow morning more than 100,000 people will surround the White House, filling the Ellipse for the huge rally followed by the massive march right on Pennsylvania Avenue and then on to the FBI and Justice Department. We have already begun setting up outside the White House and a huge debt of gratitude is owed to all the A.N.S.W.E.R. volunteers who have been working around the clock, and won't stop until after the last buses have left and the last truck is loaded.
We really need your help right now. All the major antiwar groups are coming together for this action at the White House, but only one organization, the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition, has the financial responsibility for the powerful unity rally - for the stage, sound and setup. Now we have the opportunity to have this massive outpouring broadcast to millions - if you can help!
We have learned that C-SPAN is planning to cover this incredible assembly of opposition to the war. They will broadcast to millions - but there's a catch. The government is restricting C-SPAN's access on one side of our site, and their satellite trucks, which provide the live feed, are now only authorized to park much farther away.
In order for C-SPAN to have a live feed of the rally, we have to rent cable ramps as well as hundreds of feet of additional cable. This will cost many thousands of dollars, on top of the tens of thousands of dollars that we are having to spend for the joint rally stage and sound to reach the huge number of people assembling, for the thousands of placards, hundreds of thousands of flyers, port-a-johns, the buses, banners, flags and everything else that it takes to make a demonstration successful.
Please take a moment to make a critical tax deductible donation now by going to our secure server. You can also write a check made out to A.N.S.W.E.R. at: 611 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, #430
Washington, D.C. 20003-4303.
Your donation will ensure also that the message of Saturday resounds well past the 24th and that we can build on this momentum to take the next steps to end the war and fight for justice.
Please make the most generous contribution you can right now - it will make a difference! If you cannot come to the demonstration but want to help make it successful, your contribution will help all those who are out there on Saturday have our message heard!
Build the movement,
Brian Becker

Hope everyone is well especially anyone in the way of Rita. Hope to talk more later. Hugs all.
Dear Dr. Dean,
I voted for you in the Arizona Democratic presidential primary.

Republicans are failing to do anything about price gauging by oil companies. The Republicans do not care to solve the gas price problem their only solution is to get rid of gas tax which does not solve the gauging problem. Their needs to be more laws and caps on gas compaines not tax breaks. This is ridiculous. The Republicans only care about corporations and tommorow is the huge rally in Washington, DC to get congress to bring our troops home safely.

Overwhelmingly Democratic city of Flagstaff, AZ., will vote on anti-camping law on Oct. 4. If passed, can fine and jail people -- including homeless. Democratic Councilwoman Karen Cooper is potential swing vote as proposed measure passed first reading in Sept. on four to three vote. Cooper has been asked to abstain until city gets detox center and homeless shelter up as alternative to street for homeless.

Flagstaff, Az. dominated City Council may pass law on Oct. 4 threatening fine and/or jail if "anti-camping" or "sleeping" law broken. Vote takes place as city is deciding whether to create detox center and homeless shelter to offer homeless neighbors alternative to street or breaking of anti-camping law.
Six Democrats, one Republican, the mayor, on Flagstaff, AZ., city council, which will vote Oct. 4 on anti-camping ordinance that could fine and/or jail homeless, etc.
Do Democrats believing in fining and/or jailing homeless people for breaking "anti-camping/sleeping" ordinance? If not, let Democrat-dominated Flagstaff, Arizona, City Council know what you think. Democratic Councilwoman Karen Cooper is potential swing vote as she supported measure in four to three first reading approval of proposed law.

1st, sawmiller didn't say the electricians make up to 10,000 a month, I did. Second, they do! When we had all the trouble in the St. Louis/St. Charles/ ILL area back in august we had teams in from all over like southern ILL, Tenn, and Arkansas and they told us so, my brother in law is in construction and his company wants to send them down to New Orleans for the next 3 months to rebuild and they'll come back with 30-50,000, Rush limbaugh-god I hate that man-has nothing to do with it.

I met a guy at the Atlanta Airport a few years ago. He was a homeless man. He held a MENSA card, said he was a former millionare who turned to heroin and crack for thrills. He now collects his Social Security from a P.O. Box and buys drugs with it. He was a great guy. He helped me at the airport, bought me a meal and expected nothing in return. I was in Class A dress uniform (US Army). Told me a lot of things I refused to believe. Now I believe.

Heretic, Donahue cleaned O-lie-ly's clock and now O-lie-ly says he won't allow "radicals" like that on his show anymore. This from the guy who has Man Coulter on every week. He also said he won't let anyone on who calls him names. This from the guy who calls everyone he disagrees with names and yells at them to SHUTUP!
We need help! Mike Bloomberg is going to spend 100 million dollars to get re-elected and while he acts at times like a liberal he is a Republican who has endorsed Bush for re-election, given money to anti choice Republicans, has a campaign co-chaired by one of the most anti-union members of Congress Vito Fossella, and has given more money to the NY state Republican committee and national committees than anyone else ever. Please visit www.ferrer2005.com to donate or to volunteer or to email friends who live in NYC in order to get them involved. If we do not win the Mayoralty back Rove and other Republicans will use this to peel off more minority voters to vote for Republicans...
When Donahue called all the members of the Bush admin. "Chickenhawks", O'Reilly yelled, "Not true! I have a nephew that enlisted! You don't know what you're talking about!" Oh, so because O'Reilly has a nephew, Bush-Cheney et al aren't Chickenhawks after all. Uh-huh.

flagstaffpinetrees,
I just wanted to say it takes a good bit more to help the homeless that just starting a methadone clinic and a homeless shelter. First, new methadone clinics are hard to start as they are controlled by the DEA as I recall. Under the GOP, they dont care for addicts and getting a license for a new methadone clinic will be hard as pulling hens teeth. Plus finding a M.D. to run it, who is willing to jeapordize his narcotics license will be a big problem. The homeless shelter is not that hard but you either have to build new or convert some old apartment building for housing. Getting money from a GOP controlled government is about a pipe dream for this. Then a huge amount are addicted to alchohol which means treatmenst for this. Another good amount are mentally ill and require psychiatric help. You just cant get them off the street unless a judge will issue a mental hygiene warrant. Then you have to be able to identify them for the warrant and have a known cause of indangerment before they will issue it. I don't know if there's a state hospital near Flagstaff or not, but that would be a huge help. The ones they pick up who have an addiction cant be locked up in jail as they could die from DT's or withdrawal. This means they have to be hospitalized, and most non-state hospitals will only watch them overnight because they wont get paid. This leaves the problem of what will be done with them? Even though your wanting to help the homeless, there's a good bit of extra stuff here you need to understand as I dont want to see you get in over your head. I would make sure the city understands all of this too.
i think he was "responding to visual stimuli" when he sold those stocks. "blind trust" indeed. he is also a LIAR if you read the bold part. who
Frist Knew About Blind Trust Investments
WASHINGTON - Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., was updated several times about his investments in blind trusts during 2002, the last time two weeks before he publicly denied any knowledge of what was in the accounts, documents show.
The updates included stock transactions involving HCA Inc., the hospital operating company founded by Frist's family.
snip
Frist, asked in a television interview in January 2003 whether he should sell his HCA stock, responded: "Well, I think really for our viewers it should be understood that I put this into a blind trust. So as far as I know, I own no HCA stock"
Frist, referring to his trust and those of his family, also said in the interview, "I have no control. It is illegal right now for me to know what the composition of those trusts are. So I have no idea."
Documents filed with the Senate showed that just two weeks before those comments, the trustee of the senator's trust, M. Kirk Scobey Jr., wrote to Frist that HCA stock was contributed to the trust. It was valued at $15,000 and $50,000.
"I have no control. It is illegal right now for me to know what the composition of those trusts are. So I have no idea."
if it is illegal, then who exactly broke the law, and when can we expect them to be prosecuted?
Paper Trail Urged as E-Voting Fix
Efforts to secure the integrity of electronic-voting machines seemed to get a boost this week, but the debate over the best way to guard against election tampering remained at a fever pitch.
After five months of hearings and deliberations, a high-level election-reform commission led by former President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James Baker recommended that Congress require electronic-voting machines to produce a voter-verifiable paper audit trail by 2008.
But even while the Commission on Federal Election Reform expressed support for paper trails, it acknowledged that they might not be the best solution to address security concerns with e-voting machines. The commission urged researchers to develop new technologies that could resolve the issues more effectively.
The voter-verifiable paper audit trail, or VVPAT, is a printout of the machine's electronic ballot that voters can examine after they make their selections on the machine. The paper would scroll behind a glass partition, allowing voters to reject the ballot before cas
