1,000 Organizing Events and Counting
Posted by Josh McConaha on November 14, 2005 at 05:25 PM
Tomorrow night - in all fifty states (and in 20 other countries) - Democrats will come together and begin the work that's needed to win in 2006 and 2008. In the past, these initial meetings happened just months before Election Day, and the bonds formed and the lessons learned disappeared just hours after the votes were counted. Starting tomorrow, all of that will change.
If you want to host an event, you still can. There's no reason why you can't invite your friends and neighbors over - even if it is the day before.
If you want to go to an event, there are over 1000 nationwide, so finding one shouldn't be a problem. Click here to search in your area.
If you're already hosting, you can get all the materials you need right here. We'll send you the conference call information later tonight.
If you have any questions, feel free to email us at nov15@dnc.org. After your meeting, send us your photos and stories and we'll share them with others who are deeply invested in laying the groundwork for the coming elections.

I want to renew my call for another round of these great Organizing Kickoff events in a few weeks (I posted the other day).
Here in New Jersey, there are only three listed, and just a few in Virginia. Many of the people who'd like to be hosting/attending these tomorrow are still catching up on sleep, and work/family obligations. After all (smile) we did just deliver a couple of shiny blue states to y'all (your welcome).
I'm in a red pocket of a blue state (Hunterdon County, NJ) and these Organizing Kickoffs are just exactly what we need. But we're not having one tomorrow. Can we get another chance when we catch up on our beauty sleep?
Hey RedCountyRosi--
Yes, we will be doing this again. I'm not sure what the time frame is, but it probably won't be until after the holidays.
New Jersey and Virginia were left off the list up until after your elections, so that's why there's such a small number. We figured 2005 was more important, so organizing for 2006 could wait. That was also the case for California for a while, and a few other states weren't asked to have events for other reasons (the state parties in Oregon and Arkansas already had their own, for example).
You can be sure that we'll do this again.
Yessssss! Another chance, and we're getting it!
That's AWESOME news, Josh. Thank you! I have to go now and tell a few hundred people.....

Whew! happy to report that the first podcast for our 1000+ Dem Party org. in Japan is done. You can download and listen here:http://www.dajpodcast.org/
it's a little over an hour, for those long commutes. If you listen, please be both honest and kind - we want to learn how to do it better, but, honestly, we're pretty psyched to have done it at all!:-)

The Democratic Party needs to adopt the following strategy to achieve a majority of the Congress. Why not adopt a platform strategy and present it to the American people, just as Newt Gingrich did when the Democratic-controlled Congress failed to represent the 'good of the people'. List 8-10 promises to the American people which are realistic and achievable, contrary to Mr. Gingrich. AND THE CORNERSTONE OF THE PROMISE WOULD BE TO HOLD IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS IMMEDEIATELY. If a majority of the American people now belive that the President DELIBERATELY LIED and, participated in a treasonous act in time of war, instead of waiting while Republican Congress covers and stalls and tells outright lies themselves, they will elect a Democratic Congress and we will have a trial!!! A promise is a promise!
Actually, the Democratic party needs to keep this wonderful momentum going! It would be foolish lay out the agenda too soon... the Republicans would just hi-jack our platform and bastardize it. Furthermore, is anyone comfortable with the idea of President Dick Cheney or President Dennis Hastert? Let's not focus on impeachment, let's just allow the lame duck to keep quacking away. Before you know, campaign season will start and the American people will see that we can do better with the Democratic party leading the way
Well, technically, in order to successfully impeach George Bush, we'd have to have solid control of the House of Representatives. If we have solid control of the House of Representatives, Dennis Hastert would no longer be Speaker of the House, and would no longer be in line of succession. If we had enough power to impeach George Bush, we could also impeach Dick Cheney, who is clearly hip deep in everything Bush has done.
So now is the time to pull out all the stops to take back the House (and the Senate too, if we can).
I just have a couple of comments that may not be very popular. I am very concerned about the party being VERY FOCUSED on what everyone is doing except what the American people are worried about. That is Jobs, the price of gas to run our cars and many other things. But all I see is, the republicans this and republicans that. When is someone going to begin to say is about us the Americans and not who gets elected. Personally who has been elected in the past 4 or so terms has been more interested about other things. Bush and his war and Clinton and what he could get away with. I sure hope our people don't think Hilary is a good leader. I will say that as a woman to be able to stand by such a horrible person as her husband is and make such a public disgrace of her shows she will allow anyone or country to walk all over us as a country. I know everyone can blast me now. But know and understand alot of Americans feel this way. And someone better wake up or republicans will win again. Thats our biggest problem we complain tooooooooooo much.
Chairman Dean Speaks For Me
Some highlights from DNC Chairman Howard Dean's appearance on Meet the Press yesterday morning:
http://www.democrats.org/blog.html
It is obvious you did not come to the blog to REALLY learn about the Democrat's plans, as the above thread is right on the DNC site.!
And as far as your assanine comments on Clinton, do you really think compared to this sick SOB of Bush, that Clinton's bj anywhere Nears compares to what this evil man has done to our country? I will take Bill Clinton back in an Instant if we could! And if you stick around here, you will see you are practically ALONE thinking Democrats or intelligent people are condoning Bill Clinton or Hillary, a wife who chose to forgive. Perhaps because YOU have a wife who would walk out on you , you think everyone does!
Get real!
I'm a Democratic Party precinct chair but can't host or attend a party tonight because of previous committments. How can I get a copy of the plan that is being distributed? Also, how involved have the state and county organizations been with this? My county chair does not endorse these parties and is concerned about conflicts with our existing organizing plans.
i can't see how anyone can compare bill clinton with dubya....sure, bill did wrong. his crime was lying about an affair with monica. it takes two to tango. she is just as guilty as he. but his sins are not anywhere close to the sins of bush. lying about wmd and taking a country to war, the deaths of our sons and daughters, and inocent iraqi civilians are a much greater sin. bill clinton was on the whole, good to and for the american people. bill clinton was on the job, at the white house, much more than these idiots are. bush has had more vacation time, sent away so the real criminals, cheney, rumsfeld, et.al., who really run things, manipulate the country.
bill let us down. yes. but i would gladly take eight more years of the clinton white house over what were getting now.
i still think the election was rigged, and upheld by the supreme court.
i don't know how we're going to get out of iraq. an immediate pull out is not the answer. it seems were going to be in this for the long haul. but, fire rumsfeld. bring back clintons chairman of the armed forces. he told the truth about needing 300,000 troups to win the war and the peace. we can not as bush says "stay the course".
we need a new course in iraq, and are not going to get it with these guys. they are lining their pockets at the expense of our troups.
anyother thing that bothers me is policy of attacking another country if we perceive they are going to do something. first time in history we've done this. it's wrong.....we are suppost to be a beacon of freedom, the high morals people. what happened to us.....pat robertson, a so called religious leader promotes killing a leader of a foreign country, and now tells a town in pa. not to look to God's help. what the hell is happening here......
bushs policy of taxing the poor and working class, and giving tax cut and special considerations to the super rich?
we need some changes here people. unlike the movie that said "greed is good", greed is not good. we're all on this earth together, like it or not. everyone needs to depend on someone else. rich need the poor as much and vice versa.....
wake up.........
Help! I don't have the phone number for the call-in with gov. Dean. Can anyone call me with the number?
I've got a small group of about 7 here in R.I.

We had 10 people signed up to attend our kickoff meeting tonight and roughly 20 attended! Not bad for the first meeting in what is historically a Republican stronghold here in the San Joaquin Valley.
We had a great house party last night. It was hard to get an exact count (a few came in late and didn't sign in) but I know it was at least 40. One of our Dem Congressional candidates was here, along with the press secretary (a friend from my past work with ACT) for one of our Dem gubernatorial candidates. People were excited to be here and I think we need to follow up with another event right after the holidays--maybe involving some kind of project/action.
Concerned American,
I would really apply pressure to the county chair if I were you. Ours was responsive to my first email about the house parties but then didn't follow through with an email blast to our membership promoting them. I wrote a fairly scathing note back to her and our other leadership about not using the new tools we are being given by the national party in DC. The blast eventually went out and other people came on board because of it. Don't give up, it is your party too.
It's very informative to read political blogs, but could you have a blog for The State Partmnership Project only. I would just like to read comments
from grassroot organizer.
We had our National Kickoff Organizational Meeting in conjunction with our Ukiah Valley Democratic Club meeting. I only had the notice on DNC sight for two day and received three RSVP and two new volunteers that became members of the Club. We are organizing our Precinct Captains Program using www.precinctcaptains.org this program was created by volunteers for volunteers.
I would like the DNC to continue this format for
Grassroot Precinct Organization.
Thank You
