Where are the plans and talking points list for Democrats?

EVERY democrat that gets an opportunity to talk on a talkshow or in front of an audience should ALWAYS mention AT LEAST ONE of the plans the Democrats have put together recently to solve one of americas many needs. This should be mandatory for every senator and congressman daily! Affirm another one of the plans we have when in front of an audience of 2 or more. Drive america nuts with how many plans you have! Senator Kerry has a plan for Iraq! TELL PEOPLE EVERY DAY!. Make a plan to rebuild our gulf coast NOW! Talk about it every day!

I would much rather republicans were out there saying "Their plans suck" rather than "they dont have one".

My mother always told me..."Make your own plans in life or you will fall into someone elses!"

OK, here's my plan. Organize the political party at the grass roots. Find out what people really expect government to do AND THEN DO IT. It's very important to do things in the proper sequence--not just the horse before the cart, but making sure the horse is well fed and worm free and able to see where he's going.

At the moment, in tune with this thread, I'd like to suggest that people who are already hosting DOCK parties (Democratic Organizing Campaign Kickoff) contact their county or town party chairs and ask them to contact their party regulars to invite them to the events.
Personally, since I'm not good at asking for money, I'm going to focus on growing the DNC list. Then HQ can ask for the money.

Question: Is somebody keeping track of the value of hosts downloading their party supplies, as opposed to it being produced by the DNC and mailed out? While I wouldn't suggest that this info be widely shared, I think the volume of these small in-kind contributions should be estimated and tracked. If there are 874 parties and each host only expends $10 on paper, ink, etc., not to mention the snacks, that's an in-kind contribution that would cost a heck of a lot more just in terms of paying the postage.
Since everybody always wants unpaid labor, it might be nice, if for once, it were valued and accounted for in dollars and cents.

I just finished signing my husband and myself up for the Organinzing Kickoff Meeting here in Wichita, KS and was very disappointed to see how few people had signed up for this meeting and checked the other sites for numbers and found that there numbers were pretty low too. I am in such great hopes that we will come away from this meeting with info and ammo as to what our party can do for our rapidly decaying government. I agree with DumpDoolittle - We have got to have plans and policies that will show that we can and do offer hope (with actual plans)for our great nation. I, for one, can honestly say as I watch the news I search desperately to find a positive purpose on the Democratic parties agenda and find it very difficult - no wonder the opposing side doesn't feel threatened by us. WE HAVE GOT TO DO SOMETHING!! I hope I get a few answers at the meeting next Tuesday. I have proudly placed my

We are going to have to work, but the momentum is there. The Alaskan Oil issue is a perfect example. What we do matters, if we are united in our activism.

The focus on, "Democrats have a plan for..." is an excellent idea. We have more credibility than the so called "media", if we develop good LISTENING SKILLS. I agree with DumpDoolittle, Monica and 4americans, and I'm thankful that we have this forum to gather together and share ideas. It's party time!

My plans for a house party are coming together. It's going to be fun! I'm working on some great nibbles, so that when I have another party--they'll be back.

We need to take this opportunity to strike while the iron is hot. These efforts will combine into a loud, clear voice--and empower our legislators that work so hard as minority representatives. We all look ahead to that day when we are, once again, the majority in the congress! It's time to take that vision to a house party, and make it happen! Thank you, DNC--your organizational efforts are outstanding! The rest is up to us...

I realize everyone has a right to organize, but is there any way to keep Republicans from organizing on OUR site? Do you guys moderate the event listings in any way and is there a better place to let you know if we see anything else like this happening?

Avi, "down" with Republicans means we don't like them. That is a Democratic organizing effort you were discussing.

Not to worry.

Bush's speech must be immediately, strongly, and fastidiously (with regard to detail) responded to by our side. And I am not sure John Kerry should not be the person to do it. Bush just reentered the 2004 election. Here is Senator Kerry's chance to do exactly the same thing.

One single misstep and there goes the White House and the Congress again.

This is all I believe I have the luxury to say on this subject considering the venue.

A confidential memo circulating among senior Republican leaders suggests that a new attack by terrorists on U.S. soil could reverse the sagging fortunes of President George W. Bush as well as the GOP and "restore his image as a leader of the American people."

The closely-guarded memo lays out a list of scenarios to bring the Republican party back from the political brink, including a devastating attack by terrorists that could “validate” the President’s war on terror and allow Bush to “unite the country” in a “time of national shock and sorrow.”

The memo says such a reversal in the President's fortunes could keep the party from losing control of Congress in the 2006 midterm elections.

GOP insiders who have seen the memo admit it’s a risky strategy and point out that such scenarios are “blue sky thinking” that often occurs in political planning sessions.

“The President’s popularity was at an all-time high following the 9/11 attacks,” admits one aide. “Americans band together at a time of crisis.”

Other Republicans, however, worry that such a scenario carries high risk, pointing out that an attack might suggest the President has not done enough to protect the country.

“We also have to face the fact that many Americans no longer trust the President,” says a longtime GOP strategist. “That makes it harder for him to become a rallying point.”

The memo outlines other scenarios, including:

--Capture of Osama bin Laden (or proof that he is dead);

--A drastic turnaround in the economy;

--A "successful resolution" of the Iraq war.

“This place is like a high-school football locker room after the team lost the big game,” grumbles one Bush administration aide. “Everybody’s pissed and pointing the finger at blame at everybody else.”

Republican gubernatorial losses in Virginia and New Jersey deepened rifts between the Bush administration and Republicans who find the President radioactive. Arguments over whether or not the President should make a last-minute appearance in Virginia to try and help the sagging campaign fortunes of GOP candidate Jerry Kilgore raged until the minute Bush arrived at the rally in Richmond Monday night.

“Cooler heads tried to prevail,” one aide says. “Most knew an appearance by the President would hurt Kilgore rather than help him but (Karl) Rove rammed it through, convincing Bush that he had enough popularity left to make a difference.”

Bush didn’t have any popularity left. Overnight tracking polls showed Kilgore dropped three percentage points after the President’s appearance and Democrat Tim Kaine won on Tuesday.

Conservative Pennsylvania Republican Senator Rick Santorum told radio talk show host Don Imus Wednesday that he does not want the President's help and will stay away from a Bush rally in his state on Friday.

The losses in Virginia and New Jersey, coupled with a resounding defeat of ballot initiatives backed by GOP governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in California have set off alarm klaxons throughout the demoralized Republican party. Pollsters privately tell GOP leaders that unless they stop the slide they could easily lose control of the House in the 2006 midterm elections and may lose the Senate as well.

“In 30 years of sampling public opinion, I’ve never seen such a freefall in public support,” admits one GOP pollster.

Democratic pollster Geoffrey Garin says the usual tricks tried by Republicans no longer work.

"None of their old tricks worked," he says.

Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.) admits the GOP is a party mired in its rural base in a country that's becoming less and less rural.

"You play to your rural base, you pay a price," he says. "Our issues blew up in our face."

As Republican political strategists scramble to find a message – any message – that will ring true with voters, GOP leaders in Congress admit privately that control of their party by right-wing extremists makes their recovery all but impossible.

“We’ve made our bed with these people,” admits an aide to House Speaker Denny Hastert. “Now it’s the morning after and the hangover hurts like hell.”

As an early supporter of Howard Dean, I am deeply impressed by the way he has doggedly, steadfastly adhered to his vision that "you have the power" to take back our country. I hope our friends in Kansas and elsewhere won't be discouraged if the signups for some of the special events are not as many as some had hoped. The tide is turning. Under the leadership of Howard Dean many ordinary people are discovering that "we have the power."

I also want to say a special word of support for my nephew, Scudder Parker, who recently announced his candidacy for Governor of Vermont in next year's election. Of course he's a Democrat! Van Parker

Are you seriously suggesting that EVERYONE who is faced with an electronic voting machine should vote by absentee ballot? This is beyond belief!
I am shocked that Howard Dean would suggest this as if it were the answer to the problem.
Dennis Kucinich's proposal(BELOW) is a very good idea and the Democratic Party should be backing this LOUDLY.

Electronic Voting
Democracy today is at risk by the very instrument that seeks to uphold it. Electronic voting machines with meager security and significant technical flaws threaten to undermine our voting rights and thus the reliability of the election process. Without federal review and software testing, these voting machines are being marketed by companies and bought by states at an alarming rate. We cannot wait for Congress to pass legislation to address this danger. We, the people, must take action NOW to ensure the accuracy and integrity of upcoming elections.

As citizens of the United States of America, we are fortunate to have a voting system that is designed to uphold democracy as the bedrock of our society. Although not flawless, this system serves to deliver our political representatives through a process aimed at creating a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. This type of government is essential to our democracy and, for the sake of the public interest, it must be preserved.

Election integrity cannot be assured without openness and transparency. Using electronic voting machines to conduct elections is dangerous to democracy because there is no way of ensuring their accuracy. It is imperative that there be a required voter-verified paper trail for every election so that any errors and irregularities caused by the voting machines can be discovered.

Unfortunately, there are no such requirements for the so-called "Direct Recording Electronic" machines currently being used in many communities and states. With the computer technology in use, there is constant risk of a program flaw -- or worse, tampering with the software, which could change votes and thus change the outcome of elections. Without a "voter verified audit trail," meaning a permanent record of each vote that the voter can check to verify that it represents his or her intent, these changes might never be detected.

Recent studies have reported numerous very serious technical flaws in electronic voting machines, including allowing a person to: vote more than once, see ballots that have been cast on a machine, change party affiliation on ballots, alter the counting of votes, modify, create or even delete votes inside the voting machines and interfere with audit logs and election results. Their analysis shows that the voting system is far below even the most minimal security standards, placing our future elections at risk to both insider and outsider attacks.

I am strong supporter and co-sponsor of H.R. 2239, otherwise known as the "Voter Confidence and Increased Accountability Act of 2003." If enacted, this bill would:

Require all voting machines to produce a voter-verified paper record for use in manual audits and recounts.
Ban the use of undisclosed software and wireless communications devices in voting systems.
Have required all voting systems to meet these requirements in time for the general election in November 2004.
Require that electronic voting systems be provided for persons with disabilities by January 1, 2006.
Require mandatory surprise recounts in 0.5% of domestic jurisdictions and 0.5% of overseas jurisdictions.
We have already seen the consequences of inaccurate vote keeping in Florida during the 2000 Presidential Elections where over 280,000 ballots were uncounted, leaving the sum of disenfranchised Floridians far greater than the 537-vote margin by which the state was won. Thousands of nationally and internationally renowned computer scientists consider a voter-verified paper trail to be a critical safeguard for the accuracy, integrity, and security of computer-assisted elections. Many of them can also list dozens of plausible ways for computerized voting machines to be compromised.

While there is certainly room for improvement in voting technology, electronic voting machines are not the answer. I believe that election reform is an issue that deserves close attention, but we must also guard against changes that inadvertently create even worse problems. Unless we are using auditable voting equipment, public confidence in our elections will be eroded and the results of any election will remain open to question

Why isn't there anything on this website about what O'reilly said about San Francisco. His comments are outrageous! This should be a national scandal. Is wishing death upon citizens of this country who disagree with the radical right of the republican party an example of American values or compassionate conservatism? I think the Democrat leadership so should make a big stink about this. And Gov. Schwartzenneger for that matter too.

I am all for election reform. But for those who think an absentee ballot is the answer, you should hear about all of the abuses researched by Overseas Vote. Voters reported all kinds of unconstitutional requirements disigned to disenfranchise. Many did not receive their ballots until after election day. Notarization requirements for some states simply could not be met because of the inavailability of certified Americans. Official ballot mailing envelopes were not acceptable for international mail. Etc. etc.

I am an old Lady and I have NEVER seen the DNC work so hard or be so deserving of a BIG WIN! God Bless all the energy all of you are putting forward. I have been praying with all my might that God will Bless our Government in those things that are right and defeat our government in those things that are wrong. Millions are praying this prayer for the Democrats because we believe the Democrats have the right attitude. MAKE ALL PEOPLES OF AMERICAN FREE TO CHOOSE THIS DAY, HOW THEY WILL LIVE AND WHOM THEY WILL BELIEVE. I think of the Republicans as the Good,the BAD, and the ugly. Yes, there are some that are good because they are deceived by great swelling words from the GOP.

The contributions are flagging because Democrats are contributing to relief efforts and to organizations like MOveOn.org. Count in that money, and although we tend to have more limited budgets than Republicans, we are being very generous. Also, now that Reid,Kerry, & others are speaking out, more $$ will come in.

Here in the Garden State, we're still catching our breath...

In NJ, we just helped deliver a very blue Jon Corzine as the Garden State's new governor. (Woo Hoo!) Virginia just did the same thing (Woo Hoo, y'all, and big congrats from the North!).

I'm a strong advocate of the 50-state policy and I think that the Organizing Kickoff Parties are a great idea, because basic groundwork is always a great idea. But, as I write this (Saturday afternoon) there are only three events in VA and only two in NJ.

In both states, we're exhausted. I don't think we can launch an Organizing Kickoff (here in red Hunterdon County, where we need it) by Tuesday, but I don't want to miss the opportunity - this is TOO GOOD. Would you consider doing this again.... either just for NJ/VA or (better) for the whole country, for those who couldn't participate the first time 'round?

Is the phone number for the Nov 15th Kickoff conference call listed somewhere?

First I want to say that I am looking forward to the kickoff event. Though I am not hosting I will be attending a local event. I think the grass roots effort is what is going to get the Dems back on track.
Speaking of "on track", I was speaking with a co-worker who is a die hard Republican. What she said was very interesting. She said she felt mis-lead by the Bush adminstration and feels that maybe her loyalty was taken for granted. She is very upset at the obvious corruption and feels that the party has let her down. She has been such a supporter and feels used. She also agreed that topics such as abortion and gay marriage are important, but a focus needs to be on more pressing issues such as education, the economy and Iraq i.e. National Security. As well, she realized that the Dems may just have more moral values then the Republicans for the simple fact of all of the corruption. The Republicans say one thing yet do another. Since she is in her twenties, married witha baby ont he way, I wonder how many more of her are outthere.
The reason I share is because this is a group we as a party need to talk to. These are now the true "swing voters", as they are so disenfranchised by their own party that they can not see straight. These are the people that were mesmerized by the moral value pitch at election time. We need to show that we are the party with the true moral values. The difference is that we don't drown everyone with our religious or spirtual beliefs. We are the moral party as we believe in justice and freedom for everyone.

One last thing, I feel the need to address the situation of another possible terrorist attack on US soil. OK, I am just an average American, I am not famous, I am not rich. Maybe I should not admit this outloud, however, in 2000 I was a registered Republican and I voted for Bush, after 9/11 I was all for getting the people that killed thousands of innocent people and changed my life, my children's lives and the lives of all Americans forever. Then I started to look deeper and I discovered that I had made a terrible mistake in backing this adminstration in 2000. I have since changed my party affiliation and am a huge supporter of the Democratic party and their or should I say our values. Bush has used the "fear factor" to gain popularity and win the last election. Playing on people's fear is really disgusting if you think about it. Bush had tried to make it seem that he is the best person to protect us. However, if we are attacked again, then that theory has gone right out the window. It would be because of Bush and the adminstration's foreign policy that we would be attacked. Granted Sadam is a bad guy who has done terrible, horrible things and he needed to go down. Yet, no one has yet to show me the tie between Sadam and Osama. However it was through lies and decite that Bush recieved the power to go to war with the subsequent loss of over 2000 US military personnel as well as astronomical financial cost. So I ask, would another attack really put Bush back on the pedestal, or just solidify the fact that he has run this country into the ground and and ultimately made us more vulnerable. It is the lies, decite and corruption that would make it possible for another attack. The radical terrorists do hate the west and do not care about innocent lives. It was not Sadam that created 9/11, it was Osama. Yet we still can't seem to locate him. I ask again, would another attack boost Bush's approval or just prove that he is not the grand protector and that he has put this country and all of its citizens in harms way. I think many of the citizens of this country see this. I think another attack will come back on Bush and the administration in a negative way. It is his watch and to be attacked twice on his watch would just show how all of the money and all of the rhetoric has been in vain. I don't want another attack, I don't think anyone wants another attack, but I fear that while we are under the current administration we are at a higher risk of another attack. I truly believe another attack would not strengthen this adminstration but would be the straw that broke the camels back. It is not until this is corrected in the upcoming elections that we begin to take ourselves out of harms way.

Back to the positive, I am looking forward to this kickoff, it will be the Dems in 2008!!!

NKFran, Just because the Dems have brought in Less, than the Republicans does not mean we are slacking off. Far from it. Thousands of people have signed up for Democracy bonds, which is a committment monthly. That rolls in by the month. They also need to push and push VERY HARD alternative sources of energy, and even be honest about those that are considered politically incorrect, like Hemp.

Do you know in certain parts of Las Vegas, solar panels for energy ARE AGAINST THE LAW? They don't want it to look bad for the Real Estate agents. I'd move into a solar paneled house BEFORE any other house.

There are just so many things that can be done to bring people to their senses.

They ALSO need to immediately GO ON THE ATTACK whenever some moron like the Swift Boat Liars for Dumbya makes an attack.

They also have to promise to do something about Illegal Aliens. Stop giving benefits to illegals would be a good first step. Put in about 5 thousand new agents. If we can afford the war, we can afford a measley 5 thousand agents.

The point is there are certain areas that if the democrats promise to do and THEN ACTUALLY DO IT, they will also become the permanent majority.

BUT if they keep being corporate whores, they will never get anywhere. You simply can't run on "WE AREN'T THEM".

Do something positive for the MIDDLE CLASS and poor. Screw the rich. They will do fine no matter what.

About the illegal aliens, it can be very easy to convince the Latino and OTM's that it is in their best interests to help keep their jobs and even they will be at risk of losing their jobs to illegals who would take EVEN THEIR JOBS.

I am new to this site but have been a voting Democrat for about 25 yrs, 16 of which I have spent in the United Auto Workers Union.(UAW Local 862) I was to attend a conference call party last night but it was cancelled due to severe weather threatening the midwest. Anyway I hope to take what I can from this site to the streets and help us get this great country back on it's feet again. We need as many seats back as we can get as well as the White House.
