DNC Chairman Howard Dean on Election Results in Maine and Around the Country
Washington, DC – Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement on the Maine voters’ rejection of the anti-civil rights ballot initiative:
“The resounding victories last night by Democratic candidates across the country and the decisive defeat of the anti-civil rights initiative on the Maine ballot sent a powerful message that when Democrats stand up for what we believe in, we win. They showed that the values and priorities of the Democratic Party are the values and priorities of the American people.
“The voters of Maine stood up against the politics of hate and divisiveness, and chose instead to endorse a vision of America in which every one of us enjoys equal protection under the law. This victory shows exactly what our party is going to do across the country to stand up and win in 2006.”
