Gov. Dean meets with Reverend Luis Cortes

I just got out of a great meeting with Chairman Dean and Reverend Luis Cortes. Rev. Cortes is President and CEO of Esperanza USA, which translates into 'Hope USA'. The meeting took place at the Democratic National Committee headquarters to discuss matters of mutual interest and concern. Esperanza USA is the largest Hispanic faith-based community development corporation in the country. Beginning in Philadelphia with programs targeted to address the many unmet needs in Philadelphia's Hispanic community, the Reverend Luis Cortes has become a leader in building Hispanic owned institutions nationwide.
The Reverend Luis Cortes recently served as Vice Chair of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board of Pittsburgh. Governor Rendell has nominated the reverend to the Pennsylvania Minority Business Development Authority. Philadelphia Mayor John Street named Reverend Luis Cortes to the City's Workforce Investment Board. He is also the founder and Executive Director of the Hispanic Clergy of Philadelphia and is also one of the founders of United Bank, the first African-American owned commercial bank in Pennsylvania.
Today, with a national network of 10,000 Hispanic faith and community based agencies; Esperanza USA is one of the leading voices for Hispanics in America. Rev. Cortes, whose ministry envisions an America built on compassion, justice and service exemplifies the core values and beliefs of the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party shares the same vision and as Tuesday's elections reflect, when Democrats show how together we can do better, they win. "Today, we had a frank discussion about some of the challenges we face as a party and a nation, and how we might do a more effective job of bridging some of the differences that seem to divide us."

Did anyone see Dean just now on Wolf Blitzer's show?
He was fabulous. The best line was when Wolf asked Dean about how repugs are starting this whole "dems are un patriotic and undermining our troops in Iraq" thing and Wolf asked, "How do you repond to those who say democrats are engandering our troops by questioning the motives in the war?"
Dean said, (AND THIS IS CLASSIC)"The only person who is a danger to our troops is this president".

A Fair Government. A Fair Economy. For ALL.
Reverend Cortes is just one of many people of faith who are committed to this vision of hope.

I hope Democratic strategy includes mobilizing left leaning religious groups (esp.churches) to support an alternative vision of America and take back the discourse of values in this country. Democrats believe in reducing poverty, increasing education, promoting tolerance, providing health care to all Americans, and working with other countries to make the world a better place.
I know that HRC is doing this in California. The left needs to cooperate under the aegis of a united the democratic leadership so that we can change the direction of this country and bring out the best valeus in this country.

Yes! The DNC needs more connections like this with the progressive faith community. I based my decision to become a democrat on my Christian beliefs, and it's sad to see so many Christians being duped by the Republican Party. I feel there are many people of faith begining to realize this and the DNC need to emphasize the REAL compassion and real moral values that the Democratic Party promotes for the future and has accomplished in the past.

Los valores morales de núcleo pero no las ideologías conectadas sobre ellos son uno camino que debe irse. ¡Enhorabuena DNC!
The victory of Tim Kaine proved that connecting to the core Christian values is what voters would like to hear.
Patronizing the individuals by labeling them by their church affiliations is a dangerous path.
Additionally, it horrifies the public that does not dream about going back to middle ages. It backfired on Republicans in the case of Harriet Miers. Reopening the discussion on evolution is intellectually exciting when done by scientists but alarming when introduced by structures of power. That is particularly true when the very same centers of power lead us into the war against religious extremists.
I truly welcome connecting to circles and organizations such as Esperanza USA lead by Reverend Luis Cortes.
I believe, as well, we should go one step further and open our eyes and ears to the core values and messages of Islam. Let our scientists, historians and their Islamic leaders present these values in the most positive light from our point of view. Let us be awaken by number of Americans that convert to Islam here at home! Let us tell Iraqis about the above.
We supported a new constitution of Iraq. It starts from words:
"We the sons of Mesopotamia, land of the prophets, resting place of the holy imams, the leaders of civilization and the creators of the alphabet, the cradle of arithmetic: on our land, the first law put in place by mankind was written; in our nation, the most noble era of justice in the politics of nations was laid down; on our soil, the followers of the prophet and the saints prayed, the philosophers and the scientists theorized and the writers and poets created."
Can we really connect to it?
I believe we should try hard.
I believe we should do it both here at home and abroad.
One can not convince the adversary by plugging his own ears.

Don't you just Love Chairman Dean? He isn't afraid of talking to people that are known to be working for Jesus Christ. Everyone should be comfortable with their beliefs. The difference in the Republicans and the Democrats the Republicans don't want to face anyone that believes different than they. That is why they screen the people wanting to attend their conferences. Have you ever ask yourself, WHY ARE THEY SO AFRAID OF THEIR ISSUES BEING CHALLENGED? Before we critize them let us step back and analyse why they say that, do that, or believe that way, and do they believe what they say or are the poping off like Delay did about the Lady's husband that wanted to remove artificial life? If its a sin to not keep someone alive that is in a permanent unconscious state then why is it not a sin to cheat and cover up something you did against the law? God said live your life as an open book. You know, being a Christian is more than praying to God.
