Organizing Alaska
We're at 946 Organizing Kickoff Meetings nationwide on Tuesday November 15th. And when we say "nationwide" we mean it -- here's an email we just got from Tommy, a host of of a meeting in his community:
Got everything. Thanks for all your hard work. We're ready to go. Now realize, we live up in the mountains at 3000 ft., 114 miles NE of Anchorage, our community is called Glacier View/Sheep Mountain, we're in a VERY red state, so we are few, but we are very, very fed up, we've had enough ...You can find a meeting near you now, or host your own.

Growing the Party, and Planting Deep Roots are beyond the notice of the recent critics. We Dems aren't passive, but busy building a party not just for next year, but for a century. House Parties don't make great T.V, but make a great difference.
Now I can't host anything because my place is too small and money is a little short now, but I certainly encourage this as a means for face-to-face contact and learning..
.
Hi Divine Order,
We just organized one in a local restaurant, so you can get around that small place thingie. I love your comments--about the parties not making great t.v.--but making a difference. AWESOME!
Come to IL and join us in our Belleville Boots Bush event.
Though there is little support for us Alaskans, we understand that bridges between the Aleutian islands, anything that joins Jeauneau and Anchorage and Fairbanks institutes the first remnants of what would ordinarily be considered an interstate highway.
I'm not saying that an Alaskan highway would be in America's current best interests, but as a project that is a continually evolving work, that gets federal funding, which is concurrently built as there is traffic on it then it is good for America.
I live in California and there is nothing more in the world than I want the ability to drive to Alaska just for the hell of it, maybe to move there and work, or maybe just for tourist aspect of it. I want to respect the coastal ranges and tha naturalness of the environment, but at the same time, I want a national highway that can connect me through Canada, or at least, provide me with the means through the coast.
But since Denali is such a wide tourist attraction, we should make lands available for tourist exploration. Oil drilling will be good for the nation, there is no doubt, but I think our policy is to avoid the environmental travesty as much as possible at all costs for as long as we can.
If that means that we have to make deals with our Canadian neighbors then we may have to do just that. I think America and the United States should support responsible sustainable management of the North American continent.
Canadians are sovereign and they have the right to vote on the joint management project that the US proposes. Naturally Democrats not only want to preserve the natural beauty and the natural usefulness of the land reflected in continued joint land management projects, but also free the ability to sustain sufficient energy harvest from such lands while simultaneously maintaining the beauty and usefulness of the lands that we share with our Canadian neighbors.
Naturally Democrats want to work with Canadians in order to fulfill our energy desires while simultaneously fulfilling our responsibility to the land which we milk in the hope of sustainable maintenance for future use, and also the respect of native people's use of it for subsistence and not for tourism as many north americans claim.
The central problem therefore seems to arise between not only cultural and tribal ties to the land which must be respected of course, but also international political considerations. This is the primary rub.
While I have spent time understanding the Senate and I have witnessed personally the protestations of Senator Stevens, Senate pro temp., and also the effectiveness of Senator Murkowski, who personally gave me a smile and a wink in Washington one day, I think this comes down to more than just a wink and a handshake deal: As a Californian, I have been educated on ancient tribal and anthropoligical lore, as have members of my family, and I think that when we consider the practices of northern Inuit tribes and their quest for subsistence, we cannot ignore the "outback" as it were, as it pertains to Alaska.
Alaska is largely large. It is severally unexplored. But folks there understand the wax and wane of the days and the seasons and they know when they are getting a raw deal. Earlier this year Senator Stevens (Senate Pro Tempore) offered to resign on principle if the Senate did not approve the so-called "bridge to nowhere" the bridge that unified the interests of the Alaskan state. I daresay that Mr. Stevens as well as Ms. Murkowski was speaking for their own interests.
Given that Alaskans pay little or no taxes, but still Senators were adamant and ready to sacrifice everything to ensure that Alaska was kept secure, Democrats ought to follow the lead and make sure that our northern reaches are protected as much as federal funding can achieve.
Northern strategic domination may well have been achieved, but there is still so much work to be done.
In so far as US intelligence can not only help identify friends and neighbors from the southern Americas and other lands, it cannot help but help America and northern American lands to achieve its ultimate dreams.
My friends and family would also like to hold KICK-OUT parties for the five sell-out Democratic Senators who voted FOR Sen. Lindsay Graham's amendment giving Bush the SOLE right to decide what is or is not torture and to deny habeas corpus to Guantanemo detainees. Those five Democrats are Landrieu, Lieberman, Conrad, Wyden, and Nelson of Nebraska. Senators, SHAME ON YOU!! You've joined with the Bush/Republican agenda against your own party and our most common and valued of standards and rights we hold as Democrats and Americans. You are effectively traitors to your party and your country and we are deeply outraged, disgusted, and offended. Friends and fellow Democrats, we care about our party and our country above the political game playing by these Senators who habitually hurt our party by giving our united power over to the Bush/republican machine of destruction. We must tell them enough is enough. The rights they voted against are the most basic and fundamental rights for a civil society and if America dismantles these, we dismantle Democracy. These Senators MUST be dealt with NOW. It's THAT critical. Senator Bingaman has offered up an amendment to restore habeas corpus so PLEASE call your Senators and tell them to support it this week especially the five Dem sell-outs who keep betraying our party and our efforts! Haven't you HAD IT WITH THEM? Chairman Dean, No more financial support until this party stands UNITED against Bush and the Republican agenda hell bent on destroying America. PERIOD.
Drilling in ANWR would provide temporary relief to America but is it the best strategic course in its long-term interests?
The answer must be resoundingly no.
This is something Republicans cannot help you on.
State and Federal taxes will not significantly appreciate under your watch, but the culture and the state of grace under which you live will be preserved.
Just read Carter's remark about this administration and about America's falling status in the world and moral crisis.
I have always admired Carter's moral clarity and honesty for his outloud criticism on Bush administration.
Contrary to Carter, Clinton has never criticized Bush in a forceful and direct fashion (even though after the aftermath of the Katrina Hurrican, Clinton did raise his voice, but it should be perceived as a politically motivated act than a honest concern about the country's direction.)
As a result, even though Clinton resided in the White House longer than Carter, I respect President Carter much more.
Length should not be the criteria to determine a President's greatness. Charater, honesty and noblity should be more important than the length.
If anyone wants to read Carter's remark, please go to: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051112/ap_on_go_pr_wh/carter_bush_1.
I missed the Gov's appearance on MTP, but all the buzz at Daily Kos is that Gov. Dean was terrific and Russert is a jerk. Gov. Dean was my guy in 04, and he still speaks for me. He was right to refuse to appear with the RNC bozo. Our Gov. doesn't have to "mud wrestle" with anyone for their entertainment. Go get em' Gov. Dean
Howard Dean on MTP

Howard Dean was interviewed by Tim Russert this morning on Meet the Press and, to my way of thinking, said all the right things.
--snip--
Kudos to Dr. Dean for a stellar performance.
---
You need to start a new open thread so we can give kudos to Governor Dean for his wonderful, heartwarming, and powerful performance on Meet the Press.
He was very clear, and he did not fall for any of the stuff Russert used to trip him up with.
Good for him.
And it replays again tonight on MSNBC, don't know the hour.
Governor Dean was good. Crooks and Liars and Bradblog have the video. Russert had the "demonize the Dems" mask on and Dean didn't fall for it. That's the problem in the mainstream press - they always seem to want to attack the Democrats instead of the Repugs and as Dean pointed out they control the congress, senate, and white house so it's their agenda that rules the direction of the country and they should be questioned and held accountable and ultimately NOT the Dems. Why should we give them all the answers to their problems NOW? we are the opposition party! That's why me, friends and family get so FED UP with Dems like Lieberman who sell out to their agenda and sabotage our hard efforts. Dems need to stand up for ourselves, not go along with their agenda, and when the Repugs implode on their own, then we can offer up our solutions (which needs congealing I admit) right in line with elections. Nevertheless, Dean was really good today!
YOu forget coloradorob, the MSM are the Repug mouthpiece.
It appears that we have one fo the village idiots in our midst. Who told you little-fascist-man that the press was liberal? Let me guess now... oh yes, that's correct.. Fox "news". Aren't they also the ones who said that there are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? Or lets see, that Niger was selling yellowcake to Saddam? Just because that tell you that garbage over and over and over again, doesn't mean its true.
Why on earth should Dean appear with Mehlman? MTP is just a GOP propaganda mouthpiece. Let me guess, the "exclusive" sources: Judith Miller, Novak? Rove... oh wait a minute, it was Goebbels himself!!!
NBC liberal ... HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! CNN liberal HAHAHAHAHAHA.. with Wolf, Nancy-whatever-her-name-is, Paula? HAHAHAHAHA... these all repeat the Neo Nazi GOP talking points.
"garfisher takes another sip of koolaid. Then in absolute obedience of DER VADER PARTY, repeats the propaganda of DER OFFICIAL VADER PARTY FOX BROADCASTING propaganda. HEIL HEIL garfisher says. The opposition of fascism WILL be silenced. No one will be ALLOWED a different viewpoint. HEIL HEIL"
LOLLLLLL. When a nazi mentions "exclusive sources" it comes right from the whitehouse.
I guess then that garnazi is one of the 30% extremists who want a theocracy that bows in obedience to the pope. He believes that its ok to murder 100 000 Iraqis, because if they aren't Christians they aren't human
Hi Everyone:
No matter how red you think your state may be, now is the time to get involved!
I live in Richmond, Virginia and we just scored a massive victory against a candidate that George W. Bush stood with his arm around less than twelve hours before the polls opened.
Democrat Tim Kaine sent Republican Jerry Kilgore down to a striking 52% to 46% in Virginia, also a supposedly red state.
The lesson: by staying positive and working hard, we can overcome even the most entrenched red-state regime.
Good luck: we are holding our organizing meeting on Tuesday as well.

Divine,
Doesn't have to be at your house. use a Starbucks or other place, where attendance is low at that time of night. People pay for their own coffee or food. Or call a local restaurant, see if you can use a room in back. Lots of people eat their supper while meeting up. Or order an appetizer, whatever.
Chairman Dean, No more financial support until this party stands UNITED against Bush and the Republican agenda hell bent on destroying America. PERIOD.

bob,
Howard Dean and DNC have Absolutely Zero control over Senators and Representatives. They can suggest things, but cannot make them do anything, so to punish DNC for these 5 Senators is not a good idea. That money is going to that 50 State strategy he is trying to build.
RATHER, Fax or email those 5 Senators, directly, like others have. Email the DSCC (Democratic Senatorial Committee), and tell them to get those DINOs out of office. info@dscc.org
This is far more effective, than blasting DNC and Howard Dean.
Hey NeoConsMust enlist 2,
I agree, from 9/11 till just recently, Not One single TV station have the guts to slant anything to the Left! They were so afraid of the anti-american, un-patriotic, Treasonous labeling they would have had immediately, that they constantly gave a Right slant to the news. Newspapers as well. Radio is loaded with Limbaugh, Dr. Laura, Hannity, Beck, and many local ones, like I have here in Hartford.
It has been a tremendous amount of work to finally get a few stations reporting News as True News, instead of Commentary with bias.
Alexander,
With all due respect. The U.S. and Alaska for that matter DOES NOT NEED TWO BRIDGES TO NOWHERE.
The cost is half a billion dollars. One of the bridges only connect ONE ISLAND to the mainland and has FIFTY RESIDENTS. You could afford to buy them all Private small yachts for that kind of money to go back and forth on.
OR you could do the right thing and just have a better, quicker ferry for about...oh I don't know...maybe a million or so.
The people who represent Alaska are dispicable and rude nasty people.I can only hope the grassroots get that message across to those who don't quite get what being an American is about and that means, if someone else needs it more, then they should get it.
Not sure Alex but you sound like a VERY moderate democrat.
Where I come from you know what a moderate democrat is today?
A repuglican.
I agree that Dean did a good job in Tim Russel's interview.
He countered negative questions with poise, confidence and right answers.
I can sense he has gained tremendous experience and improved his ability to play this media game.
Congradulation Governor Dean!
DINOs and more DINOs................
SENATOR LINDSEY GRAHAM PULLS A FAST ONE TO ABORT HABEAS CORPUS
With virtually no advance notice the Republican majority in the Senate (with the shameful complicity of Democrats Conrad, Landrieu, Lieberman, [Ben] Nelson, and Wyden) approved a last minute amendment to the Defense Authorization Act to deny U.S. courts jurisdiction to examine the legality of detainee detention in Guantanamo and elsewhere. They did this in defiance of the not yet completely packed Supreme Court (another reason to reject Alito), whose authority they would annul. This is all despite the well-known FACT that many scooped up into these hell holes of torture are not terrorists at all, some even having been sold for bounty. Senator Bingaman immediately responded with a proposed corrective amendment (S.AMDT.2517) to restore jurisdiction.

ACTION PAGE: http://www.trotm.com/no_conservative.htm (No right wing conservative to replace Sandra Day O'Connor)
Is our government telling us that there is no possible way any of those people can be convicted of a crime, by even an American jury, if they were to have a fair trial? We also know that our own military attorneys were fired for protesting because the tribunals already established were such miscarriages of justice. If there is nobody in detention who can be convicted of anything without special kangaroo courts, then the real terrorists have indeed won, for we will then have abdicated all moral authority. Please contact your senators at once to tell them to support the Bingaman amendment.
or to get no more simply email to no_more@trotm.com
EX-FELON & DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE BARRY MICHAELS has a new approach to campaigning - HONESTY
I have a somewhat “checkered past” and paid the price several times over. As a convicted white-collar offender, I spent fifteen months of a twenty-one month sentence at a federal prison camp for security and tax violations. This part of my life I'm not proud of, but it is a part of my past and has caused me to learn some very costly lessons.
I believe this and other life experiences combined with my extensive business experience, can add a new breath of fresh air to the House of Representatives. This country needs new leaders with vision, one’s that can think outside the box and make a difference for the people of Nevada and our great nation. I know I can supply part of this need. My plans do not include bringing up what others have not done, but only what I can do.
No doubt during this campaign both the press and other candidates will bring up my past, but I believe it's just that my past. The mistakes I made are of public record and I can't change them. Lucky for me my offense occurred in California, a state that automatically restores civil rights upon completion of sentence. For the last several years I've been both eligible to vote as well as run for any political office. If elected, I know full well I will be under close scrutiny and I welcome it. Thanks for your support! For more information please go to my website: http://www.michaelsforcongress.com Media Contact: (702) 391-0666
