DNC Member Introduction: Jerome Wiley Segovia
Posted by on December 2, 2005 at 02:47 PM
(Jerome Wiley Segovia is a DNC Member At-Large from Fairfax, Virginia. In August, Jerome blogged from the DNC's Hispanic Summit, and did a remarkable job giving readers from across the country a "window into the event." Today, while in Phoenix for the Fall Meeting, he stopped to tell us a bit more about himself and some of the things he has learned the past few days.)
What have you been doing in Phoenix?
As a new member of the DNC, I had my first experience attending a Resolutions Committee meeting. Resolutions are an effective way for the DNC to communicate ideas and influence conventional wisdom. Most of the critical issues of the day will not fix themselves, and require leadership from articulate and motivated individuals to gain visibility and help gather support for viable solutions.
I watched as some of the authors of the various resolutions made remarks supporting or explaining their resolutions. A couple of resolutions that were passed by the committee touched on supporting the Middle East peace process and supporting the use of the filibuster by the minority party in the US Senate.
What makes you excited to be a Democrat?
It is a diverse, young-at-heart and accessible party.

I'll not talk about the FACT that many of Bush's actions (he is the commander and chief NOT Cheney) ARE anti-christian. And hidding behind some values that support torture and putting children in "terrorist's" jails, and not taking care of those in need does not align w/ ANY Christain actions that I know of...
SOOO why aren't poeple willing to say the obvious (SINCE HE HIDES BEHIDE HIS FAITH.)... That George Bush supports anti-christain policies? Growing you a preacher's kid in the Methodist Church (same as Bush)... this is a bogus and nasty way to work...
JOHN COOK...
PS: PLEASE ask your minister's and reporters how can torture be christain and why they are not willing to say SOOOO...
Karina and Karl R. Need to ask about what Karl R. is working on in relation to Katrina. HE is in charge!!!!
Welcome Jerome! Jermone?? Are you the one and only Jeromve that blogged here on the DNC blog?
Jerome:
I'm in central Virginia (Charlottesville - 5th CD). We've got a group of veterans and are part of the county Democratic Committee. We want to bring the 5th District back to the Democratic Party. We couldn't get to Phoenix.
I'd like to:
1. Get the contacts for the DNC staff in Virginia.
2. Get an update on Phoenix in terms of practical organizing agenda decided
3. Find out what went down at the "veterans and military families" meeting.
Thanks

For godsakes take a stand as a party. It's time to take the gloves off. Get behind Murtha, his assessment of the war is right on in my opinion and his strategy for redeployment is the best idea I've heard from anyone in the Dem party or in government across the board. How passionate are we as a party about the shape our country has taken since Bush started this uneccessarry war. If we have to take it to the streets to let the rest of the world know that not all Americans support the policies of this administration then let's do so. I for one am fighting battles with blind republicans that surround me in the south everyday, and sometimes I feel like it could come to blows being thrown. But that is indicative of the passion I feel about the issues. I would encourage our party to bring this kind of fire to the table. Hooray for Murtha and his resolve.
