(LaToia Jones is the Executive Director of College Democrats of America and a familiar face at Democratic National Committee events. Last year, she discussed the importance of youth involvement at three of the four DNC regional meetings. When she stopped by the "Blogging USA" forum in Phoenix today, Joe asked her to introduce herself and talk about what the College Democrats are working on.)
What have you been doing in Phoenix?
College Democrats of America is presenting its 50-State strategy in
conjunction with the DNC's State Partnership program. We're excited that Governor Dean has recognized the strong voice and powerful vote of the next generation of Democratic leaders.
As the Executive Director of College Democrats of America, I'm proud to say that at the DNC meeting in Phoenix, we have talked with every DNC member about our exciting plans for the future. For more information about College Dems, please visit www.collegedems.com.
What makes you excited to be a Democrat?
The great vision and direction that Governor Dean has brought to the Party by engaging the youth.

I am so very proud of our young people. Their mind is so much more agile than our mature minds. Their imagination is sharp and creative. By bringing in all the young Democrats, we have a good chance of winning and it will give our young people a part in the history books.
I just read the resolution on the student involvement from the College Democrats of America, and it all looks very good. But I was wondering what all this Youth Coordinating Council would do.
I know it's not created yet, so there's still a lot of planning to be done, but what type of ideas have been tossed around for it to provide organizing resources to the College Dems chapters around the country? Is it more so providing better communication, developing democratic issues/beliefs/policies, or helping build local organizations?
Thanks, and good luck on increasing student involvement, it's desperately needed.

You're doing the "teaching to fish" part of the job, so don't forget that your work will produce for a lifetime. When young people become involved in the political process, they're much more likely to STAY involved.
The sad truth is, if we baby boomers had ALL been paying attention, none of this would have happened.
And I don't want to leave our country in worse shape than when we found it.
Nancy Pelosi Speech at Harvard last week was EXCELLENT. It should serve as a clarion call for all youth- she talked about the importance of youth in the American Revolution- that youth by challenging the status quo, in effect, are "disruptive minds," to the continuation of the failed policies and the source of creativity and the basis for the successes of FDR, John F. Kennedy, and the Democratic Party at its best. Gerald Pechenuk cities12345@yahoo.com
Congrats on the resolution. I worked with YDA President Chris Gallaway to help gather support. I just want to make sure that the DNC includes all youth and does not exclude certain groups. We need to include young people, even if they cannot vote because they often volunteer in large numbers and will eventually fill the ranks of the Democratic Party.
Just make sure to include high school students in the new Youth Council.

We need to sing that song, "Let Us All Come Together Right Now." Have you noticed we see very few gripes among the Democrats. We are creating a wonderful Party. Everyone is willing to go above and beyond the call. Let us stay perfectly joined together and tell it like it is. There is more to be a Christian or a Rightous Person that being against abortion. We believe in Freedom to live our lives as we see best. We believe in Freedom to Worship any being or One God or not worship. The Republicans are Control FREEKS!!!! AND THAT IS WHY MANY OF THEM VOTE FOR CONTROL.
LaToia Jones i would like to ask you to do more about youth and aids infections, the government should do more in prevention, campaigns actevly in radio, tv and press, the government should do random test to public employees or encourage them to take the test to show the public an example that anyone around us could have aids, and everyone should get tested in america!, my dear friend paul got infected, he is a fellow student in our college, and guess what the drug bill for his aids medications were 4.000 a month, taking more than 5 pills a day, his income status does not favour him to collect any benefits but the only people that got benefit were the pharmaceutical companies and the private clinics, he finaly gave up and purchased the medications in canada from http://www.canadadrugs-pharmacy.com and the savings were about 50%, the youth of america should be aware that aids is not a easy to bear illness, there are loads of side effects and the mental pressure is mind blowing, why are there movies that does not promote the use of condom from the actors, why does not The US invest more money in contain and wipe out this illness from our home land, why? because the pharmaceutical companies are making money out of every new young infected person that is infected, can you imagine to spend 2000 a month for the rest of your life? is almost a 2 million dollars in only medicines!, lets stick together and push for a reform on aids prevention strategies, people is suffering in silence.
