I recommend that during the State of the Union Speech all Democrats put that time to good use.

One way is to pass around and read the US Constitution. While reading the US Constitution, please held up the papers so everyone can see you reading the US Constitution.

Another way to better occupy your time is to get up and leave the room while Bush is speaking. I'm sure there are many more important issues you can address in your offices.

After all, we all know Bush will be speaking more lies during the State of the Union Speech.

Let's put that time to better use and Ignore him !!

Hansen, longtime director of the agency's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, said in an interview that officials at NASA headquarters had ordered the public affairs staff to review his coming lectures, papers, postings on the Goddard Web site and requests for interviews from journalists.

Dr. Hansen said he would ignore the restrictions. "They feel their job is to be this censor of information going out to the public," he said.

Playing the Hand That's Dealt You


Well, by now it's obvious that the title of my last post on Democratic unity in the Alito debate should have ended with a question mark, now that several Senators have vowed to begin a filibuster, without the votes to defeat a cloture motion.

But you have to play the hand that's dealt you. I can only hope Senate Dems make a serious effort to stay focused on the Big Case against Alito during the debate, and not provide the GOP with any negative ad material. It's especially important that they deal with the GOP "obstructionist" talking point by relentlessly reminding people that Bush deliberately picked this fight by giving conservative activists their very own Supreme Court nominee. And it wouldn't hurt to spend some time exposing the hypocrisy of "pro-choice" Republican Senators who are deliberately giving the anti-abortion movement the fourth vote they need--just one short of a majority--to erode and then overturn Roe v. Wade.

If we are to have a filibuster, let it be one that is short on senatorial bloviation, and long on clear and concise persuasion. And if nothing else, maybe the debate will complicate Bush's State of the Union Address.

The DLC may be warmning up to the filibuster. My gut tells me that the key is Hillary Clinton. If she exercises her influence with the DLC, the other DLC influenced Dems may come around! Just a thought ...

I don't get why some politicians are so afraid of a filibuster. The Senate is supposed to operate in a non-partisan manner. It is not run by "mob rule" as the house is. When the majority party starts trying to ram-rod their stuff through, the minority party filibusters. So if the Republicans want to try to cram Alito down our throats, they should expect the Democrats to filibuster. Have they forgotten that one of their political options is to compromise and listen to other points of view.
Perhaps their king won't allow it.

A Simple Logic Lesson

If (X -> Y) is true, then (~Y -> ~X ) is also true,
but the outcome of ~X is uncertain, and it is wrong to insist (~X -> ~Y ).

For Example:
X is “it is raining”
Y is “there are clouds”
(X -> Y) is true: "If it is raining, then there are clouds"
(~Y -> ~X ) is also true: "If there are no clouds, then it is not raining"
but it is wrong to insist (~X -> ~Y ): “If it is not raining, then there are no clouds”.
There are many rainless, cloudy days.

Now apply this straightforward logic to the following:
X is “we find WMD in Iraq”
Y is “Saddam had WMD”
(X -> Y) is true: "If we find WMD in Iraq, then Saddam had WMD”.
(~Y -> ~X ) is also true: "If Saddam didn’t have WMD, we don’t find WMD in Iraq”.
but it is wrong to insist that (~X -> ~Y ): “If we don’t find WMD in Iraq, then Saddam didn’t have WMD”.

To date, ~X is true (we have not found WMD in Iraq), but there are several possible explanations:
1) Saddam didn’t have WMD
2) Saddam had WMD, but destroyed them shortly before we invaded.
3) Saddam had WMD, but hid them shortly before we invaded, and we have yet to find them.
4) Saddam had WMD, but moved them out of his country shortly before we invaded.
And guess what? Explanation #4 appears to be the correct explanation.

Saddam had plenty of warning that we were coming, thanks to Senator Rockefeller, who is on record saying,

“I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq…”

Seek truth with a logical mind, rather than mindless repeating of the mantra, "Bush Lied! Impeach Him!", which makes you seem like whining little children who are still bitter that Clinton was impeached for lying.

Jen, your post followed mine, and I thought you were addressing my post. Wrong assumption on my part. (Yes, I admit when I'm wrong).

In regard to your first question, I've shared enough about myself in previous posts, but here's the synopsis: I was raised as a blue-state Democrat, previously voted Democratic, started voting Republican in 1996, and will continue to vote Republican as long as the radical far-left wing controlls the Democratic Party.

Ginsburg was confirmed 96-3, with many Republicans voting for her confirmation even though they disagreed with her ideology. Any senator who votes "No" to cloture on Alito is part of (or controlled by) the radical left-wing. I know that comment will inflame many here, but it is the truth. Mainstream America wants Judge Alito confirmed. I agree with every bullet point on the official Democratic Agenda, but the #1 agenda item of the Democratic Party today is preserving abortion rights. Can you name even a single pro-life Democratic senator?

Fortas is the whole reason for the Harriet Miers nomination. Fortas was filibusted by members of both parties (due to his corruption, by the way). Fortas was the then-President's chief counsel, just as Miers is now.

Reid wanted Miers to become the next Fortas.

Senator Reid tried to convince President Bush that Miers would be a good choice, and someone that both parties could support. President Bush took "advice and consent" very seriously and went with Reid's advice. Reid was obviously pleased, but not because he expected Miers to get bipartisan support, but rather because he expected her to get bipartisan opposition. Reid wanted Miers to become the second Fortas, hopefully being filibustered by both parties. Name a single Democratic senator who would have voted to confirm Miers, an evangelical Christian. Certainly Reid had no intention of voting for her...he was only trying to deceive the President.

Democrats have been trying to use the filibuster against President Bush's judicial nominees since 2000.

But guess what? It's not working any more. Daschle was removed from office by voters who were fed up with him leading the obstruction.
Miers caught on quickly to the deception (and calls for Executive documents to be made public) and backed out.

Alito has bipartisan support and will be confirmed.

Reid was so hoping that a long, drawn-out, failed Miers nomination would result in O'Connor still being on the court when the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban case is decided by the Supreme Court. Let me remind you of what this country’s founders believed:

Bar Association seeks halt to Georgia executions

Georgia should place a moratorium on seeking the death penalty because it cannot ensure fairness in defendants' trials and appeals, according to a new report by the American Bar Association.

The report, to be published Monday, found seven flaws that compromise Georgia's administration of the death penalty. In two instances, the ABA report said, Georgia makes it tougher for capital defendants to avoid execution than any other state.

Georgia stands alone in the nation in not guaranteeing lawyers to death row inmates at a critical stage of their appeals, the report noted.

The ABA report also found that Georgia has set the toughest standard in the United States for a defendant to prove he or she is mentally retarded. Georgia and 25 other states prohibit the execution of a prisoner with mental retardation.

Asked if Gov. Sonny Perdue would consider a moratorium, his spokesman, Dan McLagan, said simply: "Nope."....

I know you don't want to hear it. You can't face one more hung chad. But I don't have a choice. As a journalist examining that messy sausage called American democracy, it's my job to tell you who got the most votes in the deciding states. Tuesday, in Ohio and New Mexico, it was John Kerry.


Most voters in Ohio thought they were voting for Kerry. At 1:05 a.m. Wednesday morning, CNN's exit poll showed Kerry beating Bush among Ohio women by 53 percent to 47 percent. The exit polls were later combined with—and therefore contaminated by—the tabulated results, ultimately becoming a mirror of the apparent actual vote. Kerry also defeated Bush among Ohio's male voters 51 percent to 49 percent. Unless a third gender voted in Ohio, Kerry took the state.


So what's going on here? Answer: the exit polls are accurate. Pollsters ask, "Who did you vote for?" Unfortunately, they don't ask the crucial, question, "Was your vote counted?" The voters don't know.


Here's why. Although the exit polls show that most voters in Ohio punched cards for Kerry-Edwards, thousands of these votes were simply not recorded. This was predictable and it was predicted. [See TomPaine.com, "An Election Spoiled Rotten," November 1.]


Once again, at the heart of the Ohio uncounted vote game are, I'm sorry to report, hanging chads and pregnant chads, plus some other ballot tricks old and new.


The election in Ohio was not decided by the voters but by something called "spoilage." Typically in the United States, about 3 percent of the vote is voided, just thrown away, not recorded. When the bobble-head boobs on the tube tell you Ohio or any state was won by 51 percent to 49 percent, don't you believe it ... it has never happened in the United States, because the total never reaches a neat 100 percent. The television totals simply subtract out the spoiled vote.
