Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

Bob Ney's Campaign Kick-Off

Posted by on February 2, 2006 at 06:38 PM

Wish I was kidding. Click the picture for the full article:

For U.S. Rep. Bob Ney, the target of a bribery investigation, it was an unfortunate juxtaposition.

He made his re-election announcement Thursday at the Tuscarawas County Republican Party headquarters in Dover, which shares a building with Cash Land, a consumer loan business. Side-by-side on a pole outside the two buildings are two signs: "Republican Headquarters" and "Cash Land."

Good grief.

Send that pic to Leno! I'd love to see him showcase that one!

Maybe Ney can solicit campaign contributions from his fellow prisoners?

The longer this guy remains in the race, the worse it looks for all Republicans in Ohio. Once he's indicted, what are they going to say?

Tim, send this photo to Jay Leno for his Headlines segment.

SandyH on February 2, 2006 at 06:59 PM

Ney feels so "threatened" by Zack Space that he had to announce his re-election bid in Zack's Hometown!

As G-d as my witness, I can honestly say that Zack is THE CANDIDATE to bring back integrity, honor, & dignity to the 18th Congressional District of Ohio! I'm counting down the days until I can call him Congressman!

Another part of the Republican Party of Corruption is this shining example:

"Former official from N.C. pleads guilty on Iraq contractsTONI LOCYAssociated PressWASHINGTON - A former U.S. occupation official in Iraq pleaded guilty Thursday to conspiring to steal more than $2 million and rigging bids on $8.6 million in reconstruction contracts.
Robert J. Stein, 50, of Fayetteville, N.C., admitted that he and his coconspirators smuggled millions of dollars out of Iraq into the United States aboard commercial airliners and laundered cash through multiple bank accounts in Switzerland, Amsterdam and Romania.
Stein was a Defense Department employee who served as a contract official for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq, controlling more than $82 million in funds slated for rebuilding the Middle Eastern country."

I DO NOT TRUST the DNC. It seems that the DNC is doing nothing to counter the myriad of lies and spin that Bush rolled off in his "State of the Union" address. All that the DNC seems to say is "give us money". There is no intelligent articulation of truth that I can discern on this website. Remember when Bush said "this Crusade", or "as long as I'm the Dictator"? I am wondering if Howard Dean (once such a forceful speaker who told how the Bush Administration is "defunding" the nation's infrastructure) has been the recipient of a frontal labotomy? It almost seems like the DNC is covertly on the influenc/money-train with the goose-stepping Republican "majority". We have no one providing courageous representation of any kind in DC, except perhaps for John Conyers and Jack Murtha.

How does one write to Howard Dean? Is he alive? Does he have an e-mail address? Does he ever personally interact with this blog? I doubt it. I see no reason to trust the DNC, and would not volunteer one dime to this pathetic "leadership" of a willfully self-emasculated and demoralized Democratic Party..

Even getting into this blog is a tedious task that seems intended to muffle any dissent within this pathetic and useless organization.

The DNC is starting to smell. Harry Reid is a gutless wiener, and that clown who gave the reply to Bush's doublespeak speech on Tuesday night does not even deserve to have his name mentioned.

So if your brain is alive, go to conyersblog.us for some real discussion and exposure to Truth. This place is for losers.

7
Chemung on February 3, 2006 at 04:04 AM

So you would give up on a party that gave John Conyers a chance to have a voice? Remember what this counttry was like before the civil rights movement? We are the party that embraced it and made it law. And we are the only thing stopping the Republicans from killing it.

8
SandyH on February 3, 2006 at 08:15 AM

SandyH -

The "We're the only alternative to Republicans" argument is getting more and more hollow by the week.

Where were the elected members of our party when they had a chance to make a stand against a USSC nominee who will clearly be a consistent champion for the powerful over the weak, corporations over workers, rich over poor, government over individuals? 19 of them, evidently, were hiding under their desks.

Sorry - we've got to come up with something better than "We're not them." There are millions of voters out there who are not buying that argument anymore, and the Democratic Party as a whole is doing very little to reverse the trend.

The funny part is that people actually believe that crao in that book. franken had everything FACT CHECKED, and found that most if not all of the accusations were either made up from whole cloth, or carefully edited to paint a certain slant.

Go try to sell real eatate, or whatever it is you pretend to do.

If you want some real FACT BASED reading, try going to Conyers site, or Media Matters, or ANYTHING but the worm brained based society.

STOCK MARKET FORECASTS GLOBAL ECONOMIC COLLAPSE DUE TO U.S. DOLLAR DEMISE

"Experts of Standard & Poor's forecast a global economic collapse. The collapse will be caused with the demise of the U.S. Dollar Rate against the European Currency [Euro Rate] by more than 30%. The European Central Bank has expressed its concerns with the forecast from Standard & Poor's. European financial specialists say that the demise of the American currency will endanger the global economy on the whole."

licorice jello? they've overlooked a real winner, dpd...

what the heck is a jello shot?

and the food sounds wonderful

50
fade2bluz on February 5, 2006 at 01:42 AM

Jell-o shots are shots made with Jell-o and vodka (Smirnoff for me, not the expensive stuff). Pour the mixture into a 2 ounce paper souffle cup, and chill until it's a viscuous mass. (DO NOT ADD FRUIT)

They are like jell-o with a buzz. Think Gummy Bears with a kick.

Buzz-ola with a vitamin C bonus.

51
DPD on February 5, 2006 at 01:48 AM

A jello shot is jello made with one or more of a variety of liqours, silly. I'm partial to Captian Morgan in my jello.

fortunately, not drinking that sh*t twice is no big loss...but vodka...that's a staple

54
fade2bluz on February 5, 2006 at 01:55 AM

OPne time I tried to use Tanqueray, and it just wouldn't set up. The Captain is good too, but the coconut and spice flavor would be better suited for the Jell-o if maybe Tampa or Cleveland were playing. Realize, if you will, I was constrained by the teams colors.

If Green Bay or the Bears were in, it would be cheap beer flavored plain Gelatin.

55
DPD on February 5, 2006 at 01:56 AM

The first time I had tequila was on my 25th birthday, and I was with my friends named Mark, and Mark. It made it really easy to make a fool of myself.

"Hey, Mark..." and someone always said "Hey, What?"

They will pick off ANY group in order to keep the fear-mongering on the front burner.

Right before the '06 elections, and DEFINITELY before the'08 elections Bushco WILL pull another orchestrated attack in order to keep the fear factor running on all 8 cylinders.

I'm just wondering what they have planned for Detroit for tomorrow, seeing as Detroit is Black, Depressed (XIV.I % unemployment) and basically the NOLA of the Rust Belt.

I went to College in Michigan during Ray-Gun-Omics, and watched ENTIRE towns die within a year. If you haven't seen "Roger & Me" RENT IT or BUY it before the Nazis take it out of circulation.

I lived there during that period. Today I found a BUNCH of web-sites from people who live there, some are architects, some are Sociologists...

You get the idea. Most of the posts on TWENTY-ONE LINKED SITES are that Detroit "GAVE UP", and that they are tearing down BEAUTIFUL buildings at taxpayer expense, and exposing the few people left to asbestos, just to build a parking lot for a football game.

I'll try to find the main link page. They are Urban Explrers, and take pictures of the rape of what once was a beautiful City.

When I was there in the late '70's - early '80's it was kinda bedraggled, but when I went back 2 years ago it seemed like they were actually trying.

I guess not, anymore.

I think it's the BEST Moore film, probably because I worked at a soup kitchen when I was in College, and saw entire families walk from their CAR in which they were living, just to get a warm meal and a smile.

Detroit closed the ZOO on Belle Isle 2 years ago, and last year they closed the Aquarium. Now there's no reason for the few LOCAL Citizens to go there, but it will bring BIG BUCKS as a yacht club with condos.

They can't afford a $700,000 subsidy to keep the Aquarium open, but the Mayor lives in a City owned Mansion, and has 21 FULL TIME body guards, and a fleet of Escalades, whch his family uses?

And the City is SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS in the RED?

DeLLBerto on February 5, 2006 at 04:13 AM

Then DO IT.

I was complaining for several years, and the idiot doctors said it was just "stress" and kept prescribing Valium (because they got a kickback from the Drug Companies).

Years later, after 4 "minor" heart attacks, I was FORCED to go to a Company Christmas Party. I felt like shit, and left early.

For 3 days I still felt like crap, so I went to a Hospital on Christmas Eve. The Doctors said "Good news, No heart attack, but just to be safe we sent your charts to a Cardiologist"

1 hour later, the Cardiologist is slapping these 2 clowns with my charts, and actually YELLING at them.

I was in surgery within the hour.

Because I "HAD" my "heart attack" in a resaurant at the Christmas Party, I "Wasn't" at "work" and so the Insurance won't pay a cent of the 120 grand cost.

And NOW, I can't go back to work, because I'll screw up their group Policy, and NO ONE will hire me because of my "pre-existing condition".

So, F 'em.

120
gregg on February 5, 2006 at 07:51 AM

a buddy of mine said last night " you know bush was this rich little asshole who wandered around yale not reading shit and mouthing all this upper class crap about how fdr was a commie and so on and then whoops! the little pig becomes president and here he is a totally ignorant mean spirited douchebag firing up hostilities all around the world and beating down his own people" or words to that effect. and so now we get this very clear assessment of the next budget and where it is taking us:

2007 Budget Favors Defense
Medicare Takes Biggest Hit in $2.7 Trillion Plan

By Amy Goldstein
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, February 5, 2006; Page A01

President Bush plans to propose a $2.7 trillion budget tomorrow that would shrink most parts of the government unrelated to the nation's security while slowing spending on Medicare by $36 billion during the next five years, according to White House documents.

The spending plan Bush is to recommend to Congress will call for the elimination or reduction of 141 programs -- for a savings of $14.5 billion -- across a broad swath of federal agencies, according to administration and congressional officials who have had access to budget documents in advance. Wide-ranging as they are, those cuts pale in comparison with the White House's attempt to carve money from Medicare -- the first tangible result from a vow the president made in his State of the Union address last week to constrain the massive entitlement programs for the elderly and the poor.

Overall, the budget for the 2007 fiscal year would further reshape the government in the way the administration has been striving to during the past half-decade: building up military capacity and defenses against terrorist threats on U.S. soil, while restraining expenditures on many domestic areas, from education programs to train service.

sack of shit

and so the vision of bush/cheney/rice/rummy is of the united states as a small minded, hostile, militaristic country with its people seperated into two groups...the rich and the fucked over and no greater mission or effort to make the world a better place for future generations but rather just a lunatic type gestalt, hold up in the basement waiting for death to come....i guess the tim robbins character in the remake of war of the worlds is a good metaphor for bush's vision of our future.

CNN: Barbara Boxer (you go girl !) vs Suck-ass, Duncan Hunter. Afterwards, a confused Wolf interviews Seattle's Mayor Greg Nickels and Pittsburg's Mayor Bob O'Connor on Hamas, PNAC, and record oil profits.

Air America's Politically Direct: They're off, but we found some smoking hot, best of segments: Governor Dean and future U.S. President, Barack Obama. [patients, it takes a minute for their links to ignite]

60 Minutes: They're taking the week off also, but we cooked up some on-line "best of:" President Bill Clinton and Derek Jeter.

Meet the Press: Butt-Man, John Boehner lights up some smokes as he hands out the weekly pad ("quid pro quo" ca$h, that is)!

The Wiregate Hearings begin this week, which compels committee Chairman, "Single-Bullet Theory" Spector, to drop by and explain why he's no Sam Ervin. Afterwards, Ron Brownstein and John Harwood play a game of "Truth or Dare" - DARE! I Dare you to mention the new Downing Street Memo!

Face the Nation: Pat Leahy clobbers the morally duplicitous, Jeff Sessions. Time Mag's Karen Tumulty and Gooper propagandist, Baghdad Brooks fill out the panel.

The Bottom of the Barrel: Hayden and Boehner visit the choir and reprise their song and dance. Boy, Jesus Christ (D-Nazareth) would have his hands full with those sinners.

Chavez warns U.S. over refineries if cuts ties

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez warned on Saturday he could shut his government's U.S.-based refineries and sell oil to nations other than the United States if Washington decided to cut diplomatic ties, as relations between the two countries continue to worsen.
...
"If the U.S. government wants to break relations, then they have to take that decision over there, over there. I could easily order the refineries we have over there closed," Chavez told a large crowd of supporters.

"We'll see how high oil prices go, we'll see how much a gallon of gas will cost. I could easily sell the oil we sell to the United States to other countries," he said. "We don't want to get to that extreme, we want them to leave us in peace."

This, coupled with Iran's threat to take their oil off of the market? And, the fact that we are producing less oil out of Iraq since before the war? We are screwed.

2/3/06-Air Force Officer MIA from Vietnam War is Identified

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that the remains of a U.S. serviceman, missing in action from the Vietnam War, have been identified and will be returned to his family for burial with full military honors.

He is Col. Eugene D. Hamilton of Opelika, Ala. Final arrangements for his funeral have not been set.

On Jan. 31, 1966, Hamilton was flying an armed reconnaissance mission over North Vietnam when his F-105D ‘Thunderchief’ was hit by enemy ground fire over Ha Tinh province. His mission was part of a larger operation, known as Operation Rolling Thunder, which attacked air defense systems and the flow of supplies along the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Airborne searches for his crash site that day were unsuccessful. A radio broadcast from Hanoi reported an F-105 had been shot down but did not provide any details.

Letter to "Meet the Press".

How could a news organization responsible for reporting the news to the American people fail so miserably on a simple issue of domestic spying. On the Meet the Press show on Feb. 5, 2006, your show included a poll. That poll asked Americans if they support the program to wiretap calls to or from foreign suspects. Using that poll borders on propaganda and does not reflect the issue. The issue is (and the poll should have addressed) if Americans support wiretapping on Americans WITHOUT A WARRANT! Any editor who is not biased or inept should understand that THAT is the issue. That is what the American people want to learn about. The inability of your show to accurately address the real issue is troubling in that it represents either an incompetent organization or one that is biased. Both are unacceptable if the United States is going to continue to enjoy a free and unbiased press.

Exclusive: Can the President Order a Killing on U.S. Soil?

Feb. 13, 2006 issue - In the latest twist in the debate over presidential powers, a Justice Department official suggested that in certain circumstances, the president might have the power to order the killing of terrorist suspects inside the United States. Steven Bradbury, acting head of the department's Office of Legal Counsel, went to a closed-door Senate intelligence committee meeting last week to defend President George W. Bush's surveillance program. During the briefing, said administration and Capitol Hill officials (who declined to be identified because the session was private), California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein asked Bradbury questions about the extent of presidential powers to fight Al Qaeda; could Bush, for instance, order the killing of a Qaeda suspect known to be on U.S. soil? Bradbury replied that he believed Bush could indeed do this, at least in certain circumstances....

Well, Well, looks like Cheney and Rumsfeld wanted Domestic wiretapping and spying back in the 70's !

"Washington - An intense debate erupted during former U.S. president Gerald Ford's administration over the president's powers to eavesdrop without warrants to gather foreign intelligence, newly disclosed government documents revealed.

Former president George Bush, current Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Vice-President Dick Cheney are cited in the documents. The roughly 200 pages of historic records reflect a remarkably similar dispute between the White House and Congress fully three decades before President George W. Bush's acknowledgment he authorized wiretaps without warrants of some Americans in terrorism investigations.

Did I ever have one heck of a mess this morning. My husband and I were doing our usual Sunday gig, reading newspapers, drinking coffee. I turned on Timmy to see who he had on. It was the Boner. I was right in the middle of a rather large glup of coffee when he (the Boner talking) said that the trips to Scotland were "educational" and that he had to make speechs. Well, the coffee flew out of mouth like the last launch of the space ship. So, I had to go into my cleaning mood and scrap coffee off of my carpet. Shame on NBC, they should tell us when they're going to have Comedy Hour on! That guy (the Boner) is a roit! How he can keep a straight face and let the words - no wait, he's had good training that's right - he's a republican!

Anyhow - just thought I'd do a fly by. Hope your afternoon is going good. I can't get into the Super Bowel. The Packers aren't in it and I hate - I mean I hate that fat f*** Mike Holgrom. He's such a traitor! I hope he loses by 1 point. (sorry for those of you who are Seahawk fans - I understand your pain - you'll understand in the morning -hehehe

Pam, how hard is it to put up a new thread? This is starting to tick me off. Is this the thread we are using???? If so, I will post it on the myriad of other threads so people know where we are.

Cyn_NY on February 5, 2006 at 06:43 PM

Cyn, It appears this is the one that is getting the most action, so I would say so. But it has been a slow day, whether because of the Threads, or people out and about.

I saw Tim say he could not post a new thread from wherever he is, so he must have forgotten us !

I was right in the middle of a rather large glup of coffee when he (the Boner talking) said that the trips to Scotland were "educational" and that he had to make speechs.

Not only that, Boner also said that the money he took from Abramoff had nothing to do with Abramoff. See, that's how the Republicans work. Money that Democrats DIDN'T take from Abramoff is "Abramoff related", and money Republicans DID take from Abramoff is "NOT Abramoff related". Then later in the show Russert exclaimed, "Democrats sure 'get mad' when you say they took money from Abramoff too!" Hello! We "get mad" at liars like you.

WAR IN IRAQ -- 2,247 U.S. & 202 Coalition Deaths

That's 2,247 DEAD US Soldiers based on a lie. A lie that resulted in the exposure of an undercover CIA agent and led to the creation of secret prisons for the abduction and torture of men, women and children all without trial. A lie which led to War Crimes on a grand scale.

A lie which must be redressed by taking back the House of Representatives and impeaching the President and Vice-President of the United States before fascism locks its hands around America's throat strangling it into submission and return to democracy, liberty, and freedom are but a dream.

There are times when regular politics will not do, and this is one of those times. -- Molly Ivins

Mike Malloy's a surviver. I'm sure he'll be all right.

"For nearly 20 years, Mike Malloy has been making talk radio like this: caustic, abrasive, inventive, confrontational and resolutely left of center. It has won him admirers and awards, and it has cost him jobs. At a time when the very genre of talk radio is widely seen as synonymous with strident conservatism, his career both ratifies and belies that premise."

What you've got, though, is a sense that Washington isn't working, it isn't solving or dealing with the problems of ordinary people, and that is producing a very strong sense of disapproval of Congress; 35 percent approval rating, or lower, in polling 60 percent of the country saying we're on the wrong track. Democrats aren't winning any popularity contests either, but as the party in power, holding all the branches of government, Republicans clearly have the most to fear from that kind of tide.

MR. RUSSERT: But Democrats get hopping mad if anyone suggests that this is anything more than a Republican scandal.

MR. HARWOOD: Well, the Abramoff scandal is fundamentally a Republican scandal, but the issue of lobbying and the relationship between lobbyists and members of Congress, that's very bipartisan. So it's a question of which scandal you're talking about. I think one of the most interesting things from your interview with Congressman Boehner is the idea that earmark reform, which in our poll ranked among--by voters as the most important thing that they thought could be done,

Information Awareness Office

The IAO originally had a mission of Total Information Awareness -- amended in May of 2003 to Terrorist Information Awareness (TIA). John Poindexter, former United States National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan served as the first head of the IAO.

The IAO and its stated mission caught the attention of many conspiracy theorists and civil libertarians, particularly with its use of the pseudo-Masonic eye-in-pyramid symbol in its original logo. That logo featured the eye of Providence from the Great Seal of the United States gazing at the Earth, and the Latin motto scientia est potentia, meaning "knowledge is power". In addition, "Iao" is another name for a gnostic supreme diety and sun-god , the Demiurge which is purportedly referred to in Masonic ritual.

Poindexter was convicted on multiple felony counts on April 7, 1990 for conspiracy, obstruction of justice, lying to Congress, defrauding the government, and the alteration and destruction of evidence pertaining to the Iran-Contra Affair. The convictions were reversed in 1991 on the grounds that the prosecution's evidence may have been tainted by exposure to Poindexter's testimony before the joint House-Senate committee investigating the matter, in which Poindexter's testimony was compelled by a grant of 'use immunity'. The prosecution was not able to re-try the case.

Negroponte supervised the construction of the El Aguacate air base where Nicaraguan Contras were trained by the U.S., and which some critics say was used as a secret detention and torture center during the 1980s. In August 2001, excavations at the base discovered 185 corpses, including two Americans, who are thought to have been killed and buried at the site.

Records also show that a special intelligence unit (commonly referred to as a "death squad") of the Honduran armed forces, Battalion 3-16, trained by the CIA and the Argentine military, kidnapped, tortured and killed hundreds of people, including U.S. missionaries. Critics charge that Negroponte knew about these human rights violations and yet continued to collaborate with the Honduran military while lying to Congress.

In May 1982, a nun, Sister Laetitia Bordes, who had worked for ten years in El Salvador, went on a fact-finding delegation to Honduras to investigate the whereabouts of thirty Salvadoran nuns and women of faith who fled to Honduras in 1981 after Archbishop Óscar Romero's assassination. Negroponte claimed the embassy knew nothing about the nuns. However, in a 1996 interview with The Baltimore Sun, Negroponte's predecessor, Jack Binns, said that a group of Salvadorans, among whom were the women Bordes had been looking for, were captured on April 22, 1981, and savagely tortured by the DNI, the Honduran Secret Police, and then later thrown out of helicopters alive.

WD,

I expect this from Democrats!!

Start with the AG.

He claims that the reason they did not follow FISA was that it did not allow for quick enough reactions. As we know FISA allows for a 72 hour delay between when the wiretap is initially set, and when the warrant finally has to be issued. The questions for the AG are:

Is your Justice Department capable of filling out a warrant in three days?

How many warrants/wiretaps would this domestic spying program require on an average day?'

They are telling us that the program is limited. Only a few citizens have been involved.

If that is true, why haven't they been able to follow FISA?

Pat Robertson was on Hannity and Colmes the other day to discuss his new book, Miracles Can Be Yours Today. While he was on, Colmes brought up Robertson's comments calling for the assination of Hugo Chavez. As it turns out, Robertson wasn't really sorry.

COLMES: You did say assassination. Was that a mistake?
ROBERTSON: Well, we did -- I've got a wonderful news team. They did a five-minute analysis of Chavez. It was just brilliant. It ended with him saying the United States is trying to assassinate me.
And what I should have said was we ought to accommodate him and kept my mouth shut. Instead of that, I said well ahead -- and then I went on from there. And I said, well, the special forces should take him out.
But my premise was -- and this is so important -- I don't like to go to war. I see young men maimed. You all were talking about that earlier in the show, you know, this cartoonist, so obnoxious.
We've spent $200, $300, $400 billion dollars in Iraq. Wouldn't it have been better to have targeted Saddam Hussein? Wouldn't it have been better to have targeted Adolf Hitler? And I just think that we ought to wage war against the dictators...
(CROSSTALK)
COLMES: Should Chavez be assassinated?
ROBERTSON: Well, one day he's going to be aiming nuclear weapons. And what's coming across the Gulf isn't going to be Katrina, it's going to be his nukes.
COLMES: Would you feel better going back to the original comment, that if he were assassinated the world would be a safer place?
ROBERTSON: I think South America would. He has got hit squads. He's a very dangerous man.
COLMES: So you're not taking back the comment. You believe assassination of Hugo Chavez would be in the best interests of the world.
ROBERTSON: Rather than going to war. One day, we're going to have to go to war, I'm afraid, if he continues his policy. You know, but I don't know. I wrote him a letter. I apologized to him.
COLMES: But wait a minute. If you say you apologized to him, what you just said seems to contravene that, because you just now said...
ROBERTSON: I know. I know.
COLMES: ... you think it'd be better if he be assassinated.
ROBERTSON: Alan, the whole thing we've got to deal with is that one day, if he continues his course of trying to mobilize Marxist powers in South America, it's going to be a clear...
COLMES: He's very popular with his country.
ROBERTSON: Well, yes and no. But he does...
HANNITY: He's building up weapons against the United States, isn't he?
(CROSSTALK)
ROBERTSON: He's also calling for the destruction of George Bush. He calls him a war criminal.
COLMES: You want him taken out?
ROBERTSON: Not now, but one day, one day, one day.
