Iraq

Civil War

Posted by on February 23, 2006 at 09:54 AM

Most of us saw the news yesterday morning; bombers wearing uniforms entered one of the most sacred Shi'ite sites -- the "Golden Mosque" -- and detonated explosives that blew the top off of the site's signature dome. Dozens died, and many view the horrific event as the tipping point that sends Iraq spiraling into civil war.

The aftermath looks even worse -- Associated Press:

Gunmen shot dead 47 civilians and left their bodies in a ditch near Baghdad Thursday as militia battles and sectarian reprisals followed the bombing of a sacred Shiite shrine. Sunni Arabs suspended their participation in talks on a new government.

At least 47 other bodies were found scattered across Iraq, many of them shot execution-style and dumped in Shiite-dominated parts of Baghdad.

The hardline Sunni Clerical Association of Muslim Scholars said 168 Sunni mosques had been attacked, 10 imams killed and 15 abducted since the shrine attack. The Interior Ministry said it could only confirm figures for Baghdad, where 90 mosques were attacked in Baghdad, one cleric was killed, and one abducted.

Officials said at least 110 people had been killed across the country in violence believed triggered by the mosque attack.

The president called for restraint and asked the people of Iraq to "pursue justice in accordance with the laws and constitution of Iraq." Unfortunately, they are seeking the only justice they know in the "new Iraq." The circus that is the Saddam Hussein trial isn't doing us any favors in convincing the people of Iraq that the rule of law is really the way to go. And the country we attacked to save is now spiraling deeper and deeper into civil war... and that is a tragedy.

With a bomb blast, the dam that has held back all the brimming bloodlust has broken.

I actually heard a guy on Fox News yesterday say that he thought that Iraq would turn into a bloodbath civil war. I couldn't believe my ears.

The long Iraqi history is filled with a rich heritage of unique and innovative customs, culture, and scientific prowess. The Iraqi peoples are renowned among the civilized countries of the world for finding the right answers to difficult problems over and over again....by themselves.

The Bush Doctrine have reduced them to acting like this. It is desperation from knowing that there is a complete lack of any respect for their humanity by outside invaders that brought this on. I can't believe that our President and Vice President forced our military into such an inept and disasterous military entaglement. They didn't think or plan or even care what suffering they would cause the Iraq people or our military families.

Only the stupidiest and most barbaric among us would have plotted to fool the American people into thinking this would turn out any differently. Abu Graibe is their only accomplishment. It will stain our hands for centuries.

I pray that the Iraqis can rid themselves of this Republican neocon curse and that our troops are redeployed elsewhere as soon as possible. The only way I can see this happening is replacing all those in this Republican- controlled Congress who continue to enable this administration in their insanity.

The Republicans handeling this war have caused this riot. It would have been the same in Bosina
if the Clintons and the Democrats had not of been
in charge with their wise and caring tactics!
You can't deal with people for profit! Whether it is monetary or political gain, IT WILL NOT WORK! People of any country can sense this if they have any affection for the soul of humans. So this is what has happened here. I believe God is teaching the Republicans a lesson! Say what you want about that statement, but you wait and see? When the Democrats take over things will smooth out,if the Democrats follow their usual way of thinking and doing? They have more
of a wise and caring nature!

The only two people who had credibility on this issue was Jack Murtha and Paul Hackett.

No one in the Democratic establishment has yet to apologize for their treatment of Major Hackett and the Ohio voters.

On one hand this spiral into civil war strengthens the arguments of those who say we did all we can for Iraq. One the other hand, no policeman walks away from an area because crime or violence exists. It is now important for the world community to police Iraq enough to restore some semblence of order and prevent more needless deaths and violence.

PROGRESSIVE VALUES

Following the death of the Prophet Mohammad Islam divided into two major sects. The Shiites and the Sunni sects have been fighting ever since for control of Islam. Prior to our invasion the Sunni’s were in control. Today the Sunni’s pulled out of the new Iraq government.

For decades under Saddam’s rule the Sunni’s have beaten, tortured, and murdered the Shiites into submission. Now the Shiites are poised for revenge. The Shiites (60% of population) and the Kurds now have total control of Iraq’s oil revenue leaving the Sunni’s begging for resources and jobs. As a result Sunni’s are attacking the oil pipelines realizing their only hope for survival is in civil war.

In his pursuit for democracy in Iraq it just blows my mind that President Bush and his cabinet compared the Iraq state of political and religious mind with that of George Washington and our founding fathers. Pure hogwash!

Bush’s mistake in understanding and judgment has let the Jeannie out of the bottle. Now tens of thousands will die for Bush’s lack of intelligence.

We have two choices in this matter. One is that we enact the draft for a total mobilization of our military. Then with all we can muster in conventional weapons lead an all out assault against religious fundamentalism and Islamic fascism. The other choice is to begin an organized withdrawal from Iraq.

By withdrawing Iraq will be divided into 3 sections. The Shia (Shiite) regions will merge with Iran taking billions of barrels of oil for Iranian control. The Sunni’s will merge with Syria and launch all out warfare against the Shia and Iran to regain control of the oil in the south. While everyone is distracted Turkey will move to conquer the Kurdish region to the north in hopes of thwarting a Kurdish state on its border that would attract millions of Kurdish Turks. The Turks would then control the northern Iraq oil fields.

Turkey’s move would serve to divide NATO and set the stage for a total realignment of the NATO alliance.

Did I mention that IMO only a madman would create such a situation?

Neocon architect says: 'Pull it down'

by ALEX MASSIE

WASHINGTON

NEOCONSERVATISM has failed the United States and needs to be replaced by a more realistic foreign policy agenda, according to one of its prime architects.

Francis Fukuyama, who wrote the best-selling book The End of History and was a member of the neoconservative project, now says that, both as a political symbol and a body of thought, it has "evolved into something I can no longer support"....

Going further, he says the movements' advocates are Leninists who "believed that history can be pushed along with the right application of power and will. Leninism was a tragedy in its Bolshevik version, and it has returned as farce when practised by the United States".

Although Mr Fukuyama still supports the idea of democratic reform - complete with establishing the institutions of liberal modernity - in the Middle East, he warns that this process alone will not immediately reduce the threats and dangers the US faces. "Radical Islamism is a by-product of modernisation itself, arising from the loss of identity that accompanies the transition to a modern, pluralist society. More democracy will mean more alienation, radicalisation and - yes, unfortunately - terrorism," he says.

"By definition, outsiders can't 'impose' democracy on a country that doesn't want it; demand for democracy and reform must be domestic. Democracy promotion is therefore a long-term and opportunistic process that has to await the gradual ripening of political and economic conditions to be effective."

Leninism? Well, well, what have the Republicans been up to? Communists in sheep's clothing? Didn't Jeb Bush sign that letter to Clinton?

Leninism. That is what they took to Iraq and that's where they would like to take this country....and they are more than half way there.

We did not go into Iraq as policemen. We were suppose to be disarming WMD. We didn't find any. Why are we continuing to "police" something that didn't exisit. There was nothing to disarm; there was no reason to stay.

The British set up this situation after WWII. The people living there must decide what to do about it. We cannot "police" a solution. Let the Iraqis decide their own destiny.

American soldiers are the best fighting men and women in the world. They can defeat any army. What they cannot do is to serve as occupiers to build a nation in our image when the people don't want it.

President Bush's brother Jeb has a son (Geprge P. Bush) who is a college graduate and old enough to enlist. Doesn't his own nephew believe in the cause enough to become a fighting man and join our soldiers in Iraq?
