This week, the Democratic National Committee's Podcast hosted Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. During his interview, Jackson discussed the King legacy and its continued influence on America at a time when our nation is reflecting on the recent death of historic civil rights leader Coretta Scott King.

"The commitment of Martin Luther King, Jr., Coretta Scott King, and Rosa Parks to bring about dynamic social, political and economic change in our country really is the legacy of that period," said Jackson. "The struggle for a more perfect union for all Americans in terms of health care, housing, education, and a clean, safe, and sustainable environment is still an America that we have not achieved for all Americans. Our generation is under an obligation to do just that," he added.

Jackson also criticized President Bush’s proposed 2007 budget.

"We now know that President Bush's moral values, his budget priorities, and his political philosophy, which rely on state's faith based institutions and voluntary efforts to meet people's needs, undercut federal programs for low and middle income families."

"I do not consider that a moral budget for this nation," he added.
