A few hours later, she is outed as having received huge amounts of illegal campaign contributions from Mitchell Wade. San Diego Union Tribune:

So what happens? Does she have to return the money? Does she face any charges? How can we turn this news into a win?

Unfortuanately, Florida Republicans are so loyal to Katherine Harris, they won't care about any of this information. Perhaps, though, this will swing some moderates.
Posted by KDJ on February 24, 2006 at 05:04 PM
Hahahaha! Harris needs to fade off into the Florida sunset.

Wade pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy and single counts of using interstate facilities to promote bribery and of election fraud.
oh and he feels deep sorrow...Sorry wade that card was played by your friend Dick.

Here is my Voting Simplification Rule:
Find out which candidate has the most campaign contribution money, and then VOTE FOR ANYBODY ELSE.
This rule wouldn't be necessary if candidates were required to do things like take out newspaper ads and post online disclosures of ALL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS AND WHO MADE THEM AS THEY ARE ACCEPTED. I am SO sick of post-election disclosures (Ahnold Schwarzennegger lied about his contribution sources and beat out top contenders this way in the so-called Recall Election in California; Ahnold also "loaned" himself money and then found big money sources to pay it back for him AFTER the election!). Same goes for contributions from phony groups with misleading names that are just fronts for big money interests; the candidate should have to disclose all information on each group and who it's administrators and primary donors are!
If we can't get publicly-funded elections for awhile yet (or ever, dang it), then we have to be guaranteed ONGOING FULL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION DISCLOSURES AS THEY ARE ACCEPTED BY THE CANDIDATE!!!

Will we ever have honest Government again in this Country? Or will the people allow the Republicans to continue to steal elections with criminal contributions?
Do the people really not know anymore than this about the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
For the sake of your salvation, please know what you should be following?
Let us all rightly divide the Word of God?
Before we are turned over to a reprobate mind to believe a lie and be dammed!

I think full disclosure would be good. However, we do already have a degree of that. All candidates have to make quarterly filings of their contributions, and those contributions can be seen online at federal and state election department websites.
"Find out which candidate has the most campaign contribution money, and then VOTE FOR ANYBODY ELSE."
This would not work to our advantage, for the top three war chests in the Senate belong to Democrats:
http://www.capitaleye.org/Senate_Finance_Committee_alert_20060217.asp#fund
I don't support public financing of campaigns or even most campaign finance laws, however. I think if individuals want to give money to campaigns, they should be able to give as much as they want. If corporations want to contribute money to campaigns, as long as those contributions are disclosed, I don't see a problem with them looking out for their best interests by trying to support elected officials more supportive of their causes. Though Republicans get more of these contributions, Democrats get their fair share as well. Having to fundraise only enhances our elections system by forcing candidates to get out there more often and meet voters, and the voters should know who they are electing.

If she loses, the Florida Republicans will probably put her in charge of the voting machines....again.
Posted by SandyH on February 25, 2006 at 08:49 PM
They won't have the chance. Jim Davis will be choosing the Secretary of State.
Posted by KDJ on February 26, 2006 at 12:52 AM
The people like Davis best because he doesn't have a trail of crime and immoral acts, like Kathrine Harris has. A few Republicans are already ashamed of her, they have been treating her in the same class as Newt Gingrige. He was a
valuable Party member but he wagged immorality in
the Republicans face and they had to get rid of him to save their party. Katherine Harris will probably have to go down the same train? She seems to be wagging her tail at the Christians.
Posted by freeforall on February 26, 2006 at 04:05 PM
You know, the only reason the Repubs don't want her to run is that it will be much harder to use the vote-stealing machines to fix this particular election. However, I think they still might try.

Diebold is actually getting contracts in Florida. I know in my county, Volusia County, just this week they switched to Diebold.

Katharine Harris should just thank her lucky stars that no one else has tried to run her over.
I wish a hit-and-runner would track down Ann Coulter like a heat seeking missile.

MasonStone, Give us a plan? Don't just make a statement like that without making a postive suggestion? What would you do to win? What have you done to help us win? Let all Democrats talk the talk and walk the walk? It helps to hear that but it helps more to make a planned suggestion!

Wow, I sure hope that the Democrats will take advantage of this opportunity to rip apart Katherine Harris' political career. She should pay for the crap that she pulled in the 2000 presidential election. If it were not for her fraudulent voting system, Al Gore would likely be our nation's president as he rightfully should be. As Florida Secretary of State, she discredited the votes of people had similar names or the same last names as felons who can't vote. The two largest groups affected by this were black and white Democrats. Her system had a 92% error margin. That is about 90,000 votes where it applied. Al Gore "lost" by 537 votes. Even better, she got elected to the House of Representatives with the same system that she set. We can't let these Republican dirtbags get away with this any longer. We can't let them talk about their "Christian morals and values" while they cheat, steal, and lie to get ahead. Most importantly we can't let Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter and all of the other right wing media dirtbags turn the public focus to something totally irrelevent, as they did to basically every issue in the last election when Bush was in danger of getting his assanine and corrupt policies exposed. We must either urge the DNC to launch an ad campaign against Harris and other corrupt Republicans, urge a group such as PFAW, Moveon.org, or another liberal 527 group to do the same, or petition and lobby for further Congressional investigation into these cases. Better yet would be a combination to all three of those ideas. This corruption cannot be coddled and hidden any longer. If it is, the Republicans will probably steal the upcoming Congressional elections just as they have stolen the past two Presidential ones.

Howard Dean mentioned in his message today that coming November many will choose "principled, Democratic leadership that will make us strong and safe at home and a respected voice for freedom around the world."
I am still looking for signs of this "principled, (unified) Democratic leadership, that will make us strong and safe at home and a respected voice for freedom around the world."
Too much talk from different directions, no clear platform and firm leadership.
