DNC Holds First Ever National AAPI Leadership Summit
The Democratic National Committee will hold its first ever National Asian American and Pacific Islander Democratic Leadership Summit this weekend, March 31-April 1 in San Jose, California. The two-day summit will bring together Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders from across the country to discuss outreach, recruitment, and mobilization of AAPI voters in 2006 and beyond. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean will join Congressman and DNC Vice-Chair Mike Honda, and over 400 participants from at least 20 states including the District of Columbia for the gathering.
"The Democratic Party has led the way in promoting minority leadership at the local, state and national level, and it shows in the unprecedented number of AAPI elected officials who are Democrats all around the country," said DNC Chairman Howard Dean announcing the summit. "Democrats will continue to lead the way. Democrats have long championed the values we share with AAPI's, including a strong work ethic, a commitment to education, and respect for families and immigrants. We are committed to seeing more minorities, including members of the AAPI community, with not just a seat at the table, but a place on the ticket. Americans want change, not more of the same failed policies of the Republican Party. Democrats offer Americans a bold vision, and the AAPI community will play a vital role in making that bold vision a reality."
