Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

Fifty State Information Project

Posted by on March 21, 2006 at 01:55 PM
I've been toiling over at Daily Kos for the past two days compiling a state-by-state list of RSS feeds for: campaign blogs, regular blogs, newspapers, and Google News alerts. There's still quite a long way to go, but it's the beginning steps towards one large file of feeds providing individuals across the country immediate access to information. For a brief description of what RSS is and why you should use it, click here. Here is the free reader I use. If anyone has time today to pick a state or two and grab the Google News RSS Feed for statewide candidates, please put the link in the comments (use a href tags, cause those URLs are real long). Otherwise, here is the list as it stands this afternoon:

Looks like we're about 18 states short of a 50 state strategy on the feed level

Any chance of reaching out to Democratic office in those states with no feeds?

You guys are really on your game today. I applaud you!

I really do applaud you for doing this. At the same time, I'm a bit surprised you're doing it now, and by yourself. All you have to do is post once to the open thread and you'll be inundated with responses. Get some help, get up to date, and let's get this big ball rolling!

I sent in several appropriate items for Wyoming, none of which have been listed. So much for your list.

What about North Carolina? I didn't see North Carolina on the list.

Looks like a lot of work yet to be done.

Wow we just won another special election, this time in Alabama where Tammy Irons defeated her opponent William Smith,a republican incumbent by a final tally of 62/38 in District one of Alabama House Of Representatives. This is incredible.

Congratulations Tammy.

I'm not quite sure why the Maryland link puts out XML, but in case anyone would prefer to see it in HTML, I wrote a parser for it. Click here (or on my name) to see it—much better!

It figures - nothing on Indiana. What would it take to get something going in my state?

Wouldn't it make more sense to have a system where people can just sign up there blogs? And a link where everyone else can have access with some kind of feedback system if blogs who sign up are not appropriate....

or you could just make an alliance with Democracy for America and their Democracy Directory

The Democracy Directory is an online Yellow Pages of local grassroots organizations all over America. List your group here so that volunteers and leaders can find you and help make your group's activities successful!

Believe it or not the world does not revolve around Kos nor his blog... his blackout and front page promotion of Duckworth over a true progressive Cegelis shows that Kos and Jerome are just in politics for the money.... they both could just as well be selling vacuum cleaners ...in fact ithat would be more appropriate since it wouldn't involve.. ISSUES OR IDEOLOGIES.
