He's GREAT!! I think he really has a future in talk radio!

He does a hillarious W imitation.

Military scientists in Iran tested a new missile on Friday that has near stealth capability, and can avoid detection by radar or antimissile defenses such as the U.S. made Patriot Antimissile systems. In addition, this missile has multiple warhead capability and pinpoint target accuracy tracking ability.

The new missile may be an advanced version of the North Korean designed No Dong missile known as Shahab-3 with a range of 1,250 miles, and could easily hit Israel, any MidEast U.S. military base, or even U.S. aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf.

Another report now claims that Iran may only be as little as three weeks away from the ability to process nuclear fuel into weapons grade uranium. With the addition of a nuclear warhead to this new Iranian missile, the MidEast should prove to be very interesting very soon.

Conditions in the MidEast may get much worse than anyone expects and far sooner as well. Iran could also plan to choke off the Strait Of Hormuz if U.N. declared nuclear sanctions are imposed, or even sink a giant oil tanker to block the Strait Of Hormuz oil pathway and target Saudi and other oil supplies with their missiles and suddenly become the world's largest oil supply holder and drive gas pump prices up to $4-8 a gallon and strangle the world economies.

How far Iran intends to allow this possible crisis to advance is up to them. But there are very few encouraging signs coming from Tehran. The news only grows worse.

PROGRESSIVE VALUES

Good morning, all.

The Iraqi government's tolerance of militias has emerged as the greatest source of contention between American officials and Shiite leaders like Mr. Jaafari

Ah, wasn't that the problem with the British in pre-Revolutionary America...they wanted to get rid of the militias? Isn't that what the 2nd Ammendment is all about?

The Bush administration doesn't know or care about history or believe in obeying the Constitution of either this country or Iraq.

It didn't work out too well for the British.

John Dean just finished making an opening statement on censure on C-Span.

It looks as if there's going to be some discussion after the next speaker.

9
Veneita on March 31, 2006 at 10:46 AM

Thanks for that Paul!:-\, and we may thank two faulty elections in this country for bringing this to bear on the world stage. I can see the likes of Pat Robertson beaming with pride that soon they will all be heading "home". Me thinks when they all get there it will prove to be much different they they envision. The bastids deserve all the hell they have wrought upon the good citizens of the world.

10
davidual on March 31, 2006 at 10:50 AM

ok, so the current speaker on (cspan..I can only listen from work so not sure who it is right now) is stating that the NSA said they could come up with a plan but not that would be within the current law of FISA and then says that it shouldn't have stopped the program.

If there was a need for further authority on the matter why not come and ask for it instead of taking? Wasn't the constitution established to help protect us from our leaders from taking our rights without consent?

Via Daily Kos:

Feingold speaking now. Any future legislation we may pass in the future is a charade. We no longer have a Constitution. We have a monarchy. If we don't stand up for the law, we become a nation without laws. How we respond will become part of our history.

Via Sheba's comment:

In addition to my first-hand knowledge of what can go wrong in a White House....

No president...in our history...has expanded presidential powers for the sake of expanding presidential powers; and I think that's what we have going on in this presidency...in every instance, every issue...That's very unique.

In looking at the issue of censure per se, I'm sure the committee is intensely aware of what went on during the Clinton administration...the common denominator coming out of that debate was that censure is essentially a political proceeding.

There is no prohibition in the Constitution that would prohibit a censure.

This is not, and really should not be a partisan question. This should be a question of pride in this institutional body.

There has been a growing tendency...to let the President do what he wants and to have virtually no oversight. I can tell you from the other side of Pennsylvania Avenue, that presidents take note of that.

emphasis mine.

20
PeppermintLizzy on March 31, 2006 at 11:19 AM

Hey {{Lizzy}} and {{Kristen}},

Guess we'll soon see if this is a nation of laws or not. The pug side of the aisle has been making it very clear that they'll do exactly that which pleases them, no matter whose expense. Just so long as it's not their own :-\

As I've been reading along, the pugs have been washing campaign money through "faith-based" or religious-sounding organizations, screwing the middle class and nailing the poor to the wall. The endemic corruption and obvious racial and sexual bigotry should have shamed the trolls into silence. Every day when I look in here, they're as bad as their "leadership". I'm suprised that the regulars even give them the right time of day.

BTW, it's the same damn trolls. The handwriting gives them away at "hello".

As for the pub "leadership"... Leadership, schmeadership. Filthy, greedy hawgs at the trough. For all their "more kkkreeshchyin than yew!" mouthings, the Republicans in Congress bigger thieves than the devil himself. Folks like R and I are doing with less and less while they help themselves to guaranteed pensions, guaranteed lifelong healthcare and lives fed with silver spoons. The silver for which, they steal right out of our teeth.

Now, rather than facing any immigration problem (like HELLLLOOO! how about funding their unfunded homeland security mandates to enforce the laws we've got), their solution is to build a 700-mile-long Berlin Wall at our southern border.

The original didn't stop East Germans from risking it all to find a better life on the other side of that wall from them nor will the pugs' unfunded/unfundable wall solve the problem here, either. I'm sick unto death of the pugs trying to start the "amnesty" meme when no amnesty has been offered by anyone. As one senator said, amnesty is unconditional forgiveness -- what the Dems are asking for is a clear-cut path to citizenship, not unconditional forgiveness.

That is in no way, shape or form "amnesty".

We'll see how far the Greedy Old Pigs will go with the motion to censure. You watch: the very ones standing in the way are the very ones feasting at the trough of corrupt money and power for sale.

/end rant -- I feel better now

It's always been a fact that "if it's outside your machine, it's available to anyone". Just because they can read everyone's email doesn't mean they "should".

Apparently, privacy means absolutely nothing to them -- unless, of course, it comes to the White House's monkey business, then suddenly it's private. The reichwingers have gotten what they asked for -- a total invasion of government and their bizarre notion religion intruding into every aspect of our lives and our own bodies.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Capitol Hill police plan to issue an arrest warrant today for Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.).

The warrant is related to the incident Wednesday when McKinney allegedly slapped a Capitol Hill police officer.

Charges could range from assault on a police officer, which is a felony carrying a possible five year prison term, to simple assault, which is a misdeamenor.

McKinney has canceled a news conference that she had scheduled for this morning to discuss the incident.

There will soon be a vote on the selling of land in our national parks unless we get some emails, letters, and/or phone calls to our Congressmen and women about this new Bush attempt to suck more money out of what rightly belongs to Americans and NOT to the Republican party. Email, phone, and/or write the U.S. Forest Service which has extended the time for comments on this radical issue.

Instead of the administration getting money to keep the government running by selling off our assets, they could try taxing rich people, collecting fines from businesses, and making an effort to govern which in turn might help balance the budget. Good government seems to do that.

Each day there is a new affront from this administration which we Americans have to deal with and it is getting harder and harder to do so. I hope we never again elect a cheerleader as President.

Victory For K Street
David Donnelly

On Wednesday, a federal judge in Miami sentenced disgraced and convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff to 70 months in prison. Within a few hours, some 900 miles away, the U.S. Senate passed a lobbying “reform” bill that sentenced America to ongoing scandal.

The contrast was striking. With irony thicker than a wad of bills, Abramoff began to atone, but our elected officials did not.

Middle America? What do they have to fear? Total 2006 population of Dick's Wyoming is 509,294 people! That's 5.2 people per square mile of land. That's less people than 1/4 (25%) the population of Queens, New York. Queens NY have 2,229,379 as of 2000. They produce less and pay less tax!

...but they have two Senators in office!

I guess it's time to get the GOP begging bowel out to raise the president's numbers!

It is time to restucture the Senate to reflect the population of the country not some GOP Gerry mandering!

I just heard on CNN, the National Traffic Safety Administration will turn over the testing of vehicle crashworthiness to the car companies. They, NTSA, will just audit the results!

Why would the Bush administration turn over the safety testing of vehicles to almost bankrupt companies?

Let me understand this, Bush administration is going to layoff all the people testing the crashworthiness of vehicles and hire auditors who never tested cars to oversee our safety.

I must respectfully disagree with you on this one. The Senate is intentionally proportionate to the number of States, giving equal weight to each State. The House is where the population is proportionately represented, thus giving a different perspective to each of these two houses. While it may seem arbitrary, this was a point carefully weighed in the writting of our constitution.

Personally, I'd like to see our government actually FOLLOW the constitution. Right now, we have a President who rules without accountability, without oversight, and who gets whatever laws he desires thanks to Republican leadership in both houses that do not perform their constitutional duties.

This is just another illustration of Bush's buy-in to the Libertarian view of the world. They would be pleased if government provided for defense and possibly security, and leave the rest to private companies. Of course, people with no money get nothing, but that's how the Libertarians view the world.

I don't believe Bush is a Libertarian. More of a rich spoiled brat with far more power than brains, who has been heavily influenced and directed (by his puppetmasters) by those with strong Libertarian beliefs.

Our country already tried the unregulated, out of control, totally market driven economy and it failed miserably. It is beyond words that we are so far down that road yet again. Does anyone see modern versions of the old Robber Barons? The Morgans, Rockafellers (sp), Asters, etc?

More people die on the roads of America than almost any other cause of death. 40,000+ people die in car accidents every year, 3,192,000+ injuries and 414,000+ serious injuries as of 1998. $150 billion in lifetime costs to US economy.

See:
US DOT Publication,"The Economic Cost of Motor Vehicle Crashes"
NHTSA report,"1996 Traffic Safety Facts, Traffic Safety Facts 1997, Traffic Safety Facts 1998 Annual Report"

The automobile accidents is a nation safety and security issue. This cost more in money and lives that the Iraq war! And the Bush Administration is going to hand it over to Bankrupt companies?

Dearest Marc,

Love your pipe dream. But the reality is cars will be here forever. Even after we are both gone the cars will be here on earth in greater quantities. What power them will change!

The hybrid cars produced by the car companies are getting new industries to build add-on-kits. ...like solar cells to help recharge the batteries on a hybrid so less energy have to be used by the engines when the car is first started.

Trust me, it will me better if you invested in sound proofing than hope of removing the sound barrier!

On another note, North America and Europe have so many legacy issues regarding energy production and usage. That is where China and India may eclipse us. There is very little old cars left over in operational conditions in those countries. They are defacto, "tebula rasa" clean slate. The technology they are bringing on board will have better efficiency overall than our country. I truely hate to think of USA as a third world nation but one only have to travel to India and China to see the progress they have made.

I do not have your faith that the fuel problem will be solved anytime soon. The science needed is not there yet, and we've been steadily eroding our investment in exactly the type of science we need to find solutions to meeting our energy needs. For example, over 25 years ago I worked in one of the two facilities experimenting with Inertial Containment Fusion (this is the "drop the fuel pellet and hit it with lots of lasers" approach to fusion). This facility made fantasic progress while I was there and made science and engineering advances. Yet, as I was leaving, I asked if I'd ever light a room with electicity generated from fusion. These leading physicists would crack a smirk (long before smirks with "IN") and proceed to tell me that my grandchildren might, and more likely my great grandchildren.

I see the demand for gas for cars continuing to increase at a world level, while the supply is increasingly threatened, in part due to Bush's war and total inability to comprehend the concept of "Diplomacy". Since many family budgets are already stretched to the limit, I don't think it will take much to start pushing them beyond their abilities, and thus take their cars off the roads, which, given mass transit has been under attack by the Republicans, will be tragic as people will be unable to afford to live near their jobs, and unable to affort to commute to their jobs. It will be agonizing for our country while this crisis gets sorted out. And I fear we are not far from the "tipping point" that kicks off this crisis.

By using your logic on immigramition there can be no differnce between domestic and foreign spying on citizens, its just spying.

wow, where did everyone go? Oh I hope to donate for John Hall. Thanks you guys you are the best.

OT:

Many NOLA voters unlikely to be able to vote

...Using FEMA address information that may or may not be completely accurate, the Secretary of State’s office mailed a complex 8-page information packet to displaced voters about the three options for voting in the upcoming elections: voting by absentee ballot, voting early in satellite locations within the state of Louisiana, or voting in person on Election Day in New Orleans. Many voters will face serious difficulties in trying to cast their ballots.

...For most displaced New Orleans voters who cannot afford a trip back just to vote, an absentee ballot is the only practical option. But that option presents many obstacles. First voters must determine whether they are eligible to get an absentee ballot according to a complex set of criteria including whether they registered to vote by mail or in person and their precise date of registration. For example, someone who registered to vote by mail on September 24, 2005 is eligible for an absentee ballot, while someone who registered by mail on September 25, 2005 is not.

...The state has provided satellite voting centers for early voting for displaced voters in Louisiana, but not in other cities and states. Satellite voting centers were set up in the U.S. for Iraqis to vote in their recent elections, but Louisiana officials have not offered the same service to U.S. residents displaced by Katrina.

Am I understanding this correctly...by the 24th of September you had to have an application in for absentee ballots. Weren't the people of New Orleans a little busy at that time??

Is Bush going to hold Saudi Arabia to the same standards as Iran?

Saudia Arabia working on secret nuclear program with Pakistan help - report

03.28.2006

BERLIN (AFX) - Saudi Arabia is working secretly on a nuclear program, with help from Pakistani experts, the German magazine Cicero reported in its latest edition, citing Western security sources.

It says that during the Haj pilgrimages to Mecca in 2003 through 2005, Pakistani scientists posed as pilgrims to come to Saudi Arabia.

Between October 2004 and January 2005, some of them slipped off from pilgrimages, sometimes for up to three weeks, the report quoted German security expert Udo Ulfkotte as saying.

According to Western security services, the magazine added, Saudi scientists have been working since the mid-1990s in Pakistan, a nuclear power since 1998....

http://www.forbes.com/finance/feeds/afx/2006/03/28/afx2629000.html

The genie is out of the bottle. It's a shame Bush decided to scuttle the Nuclear Proliferation treaty. South American countries should be next on the list of nuclear club members.

I suppose SA will get the same nuclear deal India got from Bush?

Kristen

You’re just lost in the clown costume you and the other far left wingers wear. I’m surprised that with your (far left wing) superior intellect the world just doesn’t roll over and proclaim your collective power the new God.

You guys can’t even get Democrats to support Feingold’s noble effort to censure the Bush. Everyday the posts start out IMPEACH everyone who doesn’t agree with the great wisdom of the far left.

Maybe there is a lesson here for you. Most Democrats push you and your clown leader Dean over to this blog so you can rant and rave at the moon. Sometimes we less than superior Democrats use this space for our entertainment. We love being called Republican and the other entire useless demagogue the far left throws our way. It helps us prepare for the real battle. You know the one that really counts.

From Massachusetts to California no one really cares what your miniscule numbers of followers have to say. Doesn’t the reality of the times tell you anything?

One week to go and we have our monthly meeting here in northern Indiana. As with the rest of the country, our meetings have grown with people who are fed up with republican control. Our once republican newspaper is filled everyday with people who want the republicans voted out!

Yes - I'm so glad to be a Democrat. Screw the Republicans. I hope we can smack them around for a few years! They need to be put in their place once and for all!

***This just in - I will finally get to met Colleen! I just heard from her. She is worn out trying to get poll workers and everything we need for our primary in May..poor thing. I wish I were there to help her!

This thing with Feingold isn't dead yet - a sleeping giant just might have been shaken...I feel something is about to happen. I just feel it. Call it what you want, but I just feel something major is about to happen...

Got to go - you all have a great Friday night - and

Keep on Rockn'

Reagan was responsible for the last amnesty program and legislation....heard his comments on the Ed Shultz show yesterday. In any event, thought I'd take a second to check it out and by golly, picked this up which was written by the guy responsible for Border Patrol in San Diego..

The below is probably what will be brought to the attention of the veiwers of the Larry King show tonight with Clinton and Shultz.

During the last presidential election, Republicans loudly proclaimed that Democrats pandered to Latino voters. They further claimed that Democrats were soft on border issues.

Well, here is a little trade secret from someone who personally witnessed history in the making in the Border Patrol. The Clinton administration provided the United States Border Patrol more resources to accomplish its mission than ever before.
That administration, and not previous Republican administrations, provided the agency with new agents, vehicles, radios, body armor and modern handguns. Prior to the influx of these resources, agents drove dilapidated vehicles, relied on inferior radio equipment, paid for body armor out of their own pockets and used recycled revolvers.

In addition, whether you agree or not, the simple fact is that Operation Gatekeeper worked in securing the immediate border in San Diego. Simply stated, the Clinton administration did more to stop illegal immigration than every Republican administration, before and after, combined.

113
Michigan_Dave on March 31, 2006 at 03:55 PM

Clinton also aggressively enforced the laws that prosecuted companies employing undocumented workers and Bush stopped doing that altogether.

We need to make Mexico whose unemployment rate is 40% but yet is one of the richest countries start sharing the wealth. It's all in the hands of the oligarchy, a dozen wealthy families who are profiting from Nafta and leaving the Mexican people to live on 2 dollars a day. Fox is as corrupt as Bush and they are in cahoots on letting undocumented workers come over to drive labor costs down and continue the destruction of unions that Reagan so effectively did with his amnesty program.

The pressure has to be on Fox and his government. They have to be part of the solution or there will be no solution.

This is interesting to those who are following Campaign Finance reform. Move On is freezing it's 527 activities, instead using it's PAC campaign to fund it's operations! Republicans must be so ticked off !!!

Washington - To many Republicans, the liberal activist organization MoveOn.org is a political boogeyman that they hope to chase off with new restrictions on so-called 527 groups.

But the pursuit may turn out to be fruitless. Like other major groups planning to inject themselves aggressively into the midterm elections through advertisements, voter drives and issue fights, MoveOn.org has already figured out what it thinks is a better, and less controversial, way to spend its millions. Its 527 - named for a section of the tax code - is being put on ice.

"Our 527 is dormant," said Eli Pariser, executive director of MoveOn.org. He said his group would predominantly operate as a conventional political action committee, allowing it to more freely mix explicit political support and issue advocacy in a way that Mr. Pariser described as "squeaky clean."

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Just six months after the Pentagon agreed to reimburse soldiers who bought their own protective gear, the Army has banned the use of any body armor that is not issued by the military.

In a new directive, effective immediately, the Army said it cannot guarantee the quality of commercially bought armor, and any soldier wearing it will have to turn it in and have it replaced with authorized gear.

sunny,

I highly recommend Howard Dean's book "You Have the Power"! He says in that book, every single thing we say on this blog ! He is totally against the DLC and the idea of being half a Democrat, merely to win an election.

He breaks down every single issue and policy that Bush has put in or is trying to put in, with easy to understand reasons WHY they are trying to do it, and WHY it is against us all.

He shows how and why this administration is trying to get rid of the Middle Class, and merely have 2 classes, those Very Wealthy and those very poor.

Don't get me wrong, he is hard on Democrats who have caved in and buried their heads against what is going on in congress.

Hardline conservatives are strongly opposed to legalising undocumented immigrants and want to criminalise them.

Mr Bush made it clear that he was not in favour of allowing illegals to be put on a fast track to US citizenship.

But he called for a dignified debate on the issue, "in recognition that America is a land of immigrants and people ought to be treated with respect".

BlueinIdaho on March 31, 2006 at 05:13 PM

Good afternoon, all.

Did you just see CNN's Situation Room? They have a new CNN/Time Warner poll that says 74% of Americans favor a guest worker program. It is really throwing Wolf and Bill Schneider in a tizzy. They seem to think it should be the other way around....can't wait to see Dobb's take.

I wonder what "Guest Worker Program" means to most people? Does it mean Bush's temporary indentured servant idea or the ideaillegals could get citizenship if they paid fines, learned English, and stayed law-abidding, tax-paying members of society for 12 years?

It's clear there are all kinds of issues running together here. The border security issue, the amnesty issue, the temporary worker issue, the civil rights issue, the economic issue, the good samaritan issue, etc. Whatever way you look at it, there are some interesting splits among the Republican ranks on several of these key issues.

And there is an interesting coalition of civil rights, religious, corporate, security, and labor interests developing. The Democrats so far seem to be on this right side of the debate...and 74% seem to like the ideas they are putting forward.

Funny what a difference a week of hundreds of thousands of people protesting in the streets makes.

I only hope whatever comes of this, our port security is tightened as well as border security. I'm afraid those cargo containers at our ports are not going to be inspected by anyone...the Chinese, UAE, or our poorly-funded and beleagered Coast Guard. I hope this issue doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Somedays it seem like the Republicans haven't addressed any of the issues facing this nation. Do they ever fix anything? Do they even try? Do they even know things are broken?

Thanks for the link! This is a good article! Especially since it had the tone of an essay I wrote back in 1999, which won me a scholarship from the union that I was a member. Interesting, indeed, but where these people speaking of the disenfranchised work force 8 years ago.

I want immigrants treated fairly and humanely and I don't want to see them exploited. I don't know that this thing that Bush is advocating does that. But I guess it's better than the alternatives presently on the table?

I find it so interesting when people talk about illegals. Some get so passionate about it and say that we should "close down our borders".

What exactly does that mean???

Are we talking a wall...maybe we can get some rubble from Berlin.

Are we talking about a fence...I'm from San Diego, there is a fence.

Are we talking armed forces??? Heck we can't even police our own ports, ever see Fahrenheit 911?

Will someone fill me in on this xenophobic vision?

I'm sorry, but with Americans and Iraqis dying for no reason; a president lying to us--nearly every week now; and, the extreme Kristian doctrine that has stifled science in America, I have more important issues to address than poor, hungry mexicans looking for work.

What we have now is facism in progress. The governments working with the corporations to maintain the status quo, and keep the working class oppressed.

Well, I have to go. Speaking of oppression, I must take my 9 year old son to a relatives home, so I can go to work at 8 pm for my corporate employer. Oh,I could go without work, but then how eould I provide. We live it every day, and make excuses for it as well. Will it ever stop?

bahahahaha...if it weren't such a blantant example of the lies of the current republicriminals, it would be funny.

AP) - SAN DIEGO-A congressional candidate is under fire for a Web site photo that purported to show a peaceful Baghdad neighborhood but was actually taken in a suburb of Istanbul, Turkey.

"We took this photo of Baghdad while we were in Iraq," the accompanying caption on Howard Kaloogian's Web site read. "Iraq (including Baghdad) is much more calm and stable than what many people believe it to be."

Internet bloggers began questioning the photo earlier this week because none of the signs was in Arabic and billboards were advertising Western products.

From Massachusetts to California no one really cares what your miniscule numbers of followers have to say. Doesn’t the reality of the times tell you anything?

Then why are you wasting your time monitering what we say? The "times" they are a-changing.

Jen, are they just giving up and blowing up that nuclear waste bunker? Imagine the neon lights over Las Vegas with that mushroom cloud.

Neil Boortz March 31 broadcast on his nationally syndicated radio program:

BOORTZ: For instance, or for goodness sakes, jump in and I'm gonna say -- I'm gonna start out with something controversial. I saw Cynthia McKinney's new hair-do. Have you seen it, Belinda?

SKELTON: No.

BOORTZ: She looks like a ghetto slut.

SKELTON: Well, how is it?

BOORTZ: It's just -- it's hideous.

SKELTON: Is it braided? Or --

BOORTZ: No, it's not braided. It just flies away from her head in every conceivable direction. It looks like an explosion in a Brillo pad factory. It's just hideous. To me, that hairstyle just shows contempt for -- no, it's not an Afro. I mean, no, it just shows contempt for the position that she holds and the body that she serves in. And, I'm sorry, there's just no other way to -- it's just a hideous and horrible looking --

Wow!
