Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

Real Security

Posted by on March 29, 2006 at 11:02 AM

The American people have a choice in 2006. They can stick with the status quo of "stay the course" put forth by a Republican controlled rubber stamp congress led by President Bush. Or we can change the course and provide Real Security, a plan put forth by the Democratic Party.

We've repeatedly seen what "stay the course" gets us: An Iraq teetering on the brink of civil war -- A proposal to allow foreign, state owned corporations with ties to Al Qaeda and the Taliban the ability to control security at six of our nations largest ports -- Five percent of incoming cargo inspected at our ports -- Scathing rebukes and failing grades from the 9/11 Commission (.pdf) in regards to the implementation of their proposals to keep America safe in a "post 9/11 world." -- Osama bin Laden still on the loose and producing enough videos to start his own cable network. -- Instability in the Middle East including, but obviously not limited to, the prospect of a nuclear Iran. -- Government sponsored domestic spying -- And secret energy commission meetings, oft repeated empty slogans about oil addiction, and a president who was only kidding in the State of the Union about his promise to make us energy Independent.

We can stay that course ... or Americans can opt for Real Security this November and beyond.

Real Security will immediately implement the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission that includes securig our borders, ports, airports, and mass transit systems.

Real Security will screen 100% of containers and cargo bound for the U.S.

Real Security will prevent outsourcing of critical components of our national security infrastructure -- such as ports, airports, and mass transit.

Real Security will provide our first responders the technology they need.

Real Security will protect America from bio terrorism and pandemics, including the Avian Flu.

Real Security will ensure that 2006 is a year of transition to full Iraqi sovereignty in Iraq.

And Real Security will eliminate Osama bin Laden.

Your call. But that's just the beginning of the Democratic plan to provide Real Security for all Americans in 2006, 2007, and beyond. You can read the full plan, here.

I suppose the MSM will ignore this and say we still don't have a plan. It's been so long (12 years with the Congress and 5 years with the White House) since anyone has even tried to fix any problems in this country. The media doesn't even know what a Real Plan looks like...or have any idea that there are those who could actually fix a problem.

The Republicans have trained the public to have such low expectations no wonder we are in the shape we are.

Hey, guys, by the time the election takes place in November, 2006 will be almost over.

Also from the plan:

To protect the American people, we will immediately implement the recommendations of the independent bipartisan 9/11 Commission and fi nally protect our ports and airports, our borders, mass transit systems, our chemical and nuclear power plants, and our food and water supplies from terrorist attack.

Democrats are still in the minority. How do you immediately implement recommendations when bills and resolutions introduced by Democrats have languished in committee or died on the floor?

Anyone? Bueller?

and the Democratic Party came up with the new catch phrase "Real Security"??

I am not sure I am entirely comfortable with this phrase.

Authentic, bona fide, geniune kind of sound better.

Just saying...

Not this naysayer BS again! Look guys, I can't believe you are still so damn pessimistic! You guys were bitchin and bitchin about how "people will not vote for us b/c we have no plan. They will have no reason to come out if we don't offer an alternative." and then the SECOND the Democrats annouce a plan, your immediate reaction is "Oh, well noone will pay attention to it, the public has been trained to have low expectations, the catch phrase is bad, it only kinda sounds better" geez guys!

Try being happy for a couple of hours! You might find that you'll feel better too! This was a GREAT step forward, b/c the Democrats can no longer be tagged as having no clear plan and "no clear message", they have one now! Seriously, this will mark the major turning point in our fight to take back the House and maybe the Senate, it's "the day we presented OUR message to the public!" And when the public hears this this message (which they will b/c the public isn't that stupid and besides, the "Republican friendly" media can't ignore this forever anyway so either way, our message WILL get out!) they will know that we are MUCH better than has been delivered to them by this Bush/Republican disaster!

So, now's now a time to be down and hopeless, it's a time to be upbeat and hopeful! Things are changing in politics, so just stay upbeat and watch as the good times will soon roll!

I've been a Marine since 1990, joined after watching what Iraq was doing to both Kuwait and Israel, and trained to meet the threat of terrorism which was carried out by enemies both foreign and domestic. Sixteen years I've watched, first as the situation was controlled through conservatively applied procedures and then as the situation was allowed to tumble out of control through through the use of quick vaguely planned action.

From 1990 to 2001 both Saddam and Osama were merely blips on the map, both occassionally drawing attention with small scale attacks on our forces. Each and every one of these attacks was responded to with attacks of our own.

During this time we experimented with, and discussed, the difficulty of urban warfare in Iraq. At the same time we were insisting that the Federal Aviation Administration increase security based on information coming out of the Middle East. The later was based on the belief that terrorism was an evolving force that had already used commercial airliners in two other ways to further their goals, by hijacking them and holding them and their passengers for ransom and by simply blowing them up for shock value.

The last thing we need to do now is to expand the area of our concern to Iran based on fear, although it is happening. What we need to do is get into that country under a cooperative agreement where we can see for ourselves that Nuclear armorment is not taking place. The best way to do this is to offer our assistance with the development of nuclear energy production.

To set the records straight, I am saying this after having disapproved of the idea to invade Iraq. Things there were not going as well as they might have but they were also not going as bad as they have been ever since. What we have seen these past years is what we feared we might see when first we began to consider invading Iraq.

"Real Security" means keeping traitors out of government, such as the traitors who put their judicial blessing on the theft of the 2000 election, those who plotted to kill thousands to prop up their deservedly low poll ratings, and those who replaced our democratic government of, by, and for the people with a neo-nationalist dictatorship of, by, and for the racket-influenced corporate oligopoly.

Every member and associate of the Bush family should be deported to the home of their true allegiance: Saudi Arabia.

It's about time the Democrat Party starts to stand for something. There is a very good chance for us to win back the government come election time. Immigration, border security, our economy, the national debt. Face it folks, there are a lot of issues out there your constituency is waiting for you to start plugging away at how much better someone who, actually, cares about this country and the American public will be at running this country.

I have just read the Democratic Plan for Security. Once again the brains of the DNC have confused slogans with plans. “A chicken in every pot” “Peace in our time” “The war to end war”. Just once I would like someone to advance a plan which said something other than feel good platitudes. It is fiscally and physically impossible to inspect every container shipped into the ports of the U.S. It is also unnecessary. Airport security is an exercise in feel good government baby sitting. The war in Iraq is a crime against humanity and should be ended the day Democrats take control of the government. No delays, no timetables, no mealy-mouthed explanations as to why our leaders need permanent bases for only another fifty years. The war in Afganistan is over-get out- The war against terrorism is like the war on poverty (remember that one, we surrendered years ago) you cannot wage a military action against abstract ideals embraced by millions of people in hundreds of countries, areas or populations. Call the Plan what it is a forlorn hope of the DNC to maintain a semblance of validity in an era when no one considers the inability to differentiate between taking a stand for truth, honor, and the Constitution and pandering for votes among people who consider constitutionally protected freedoms a support of terrorism. If the Democrats want a real plan for security they will need to tell the truth. The U.S. can no longer afford a military stationed in 135 countries. A 750 billion dollar deficit is not good for the economy. Submarines, aircraft carriers, nuclear weapons, missile defense shields are a waste of precious resources. Terrorists do not have centralized governments which can be defeated in a military action. It is not our oil located in the middle east. God did not tell George Bush to invade Iraq. Fear is not a good public policy.

If you continue to make the world mad at you by being a punk who says we can do what we please because you can't do anything about it, security is impossible. Until Bush, America at least pretended to listen to other countries and believed what they had to say was important. Bush thinks the world should be afraid of him and his gang and has no respect for anybody therefore the world hates him. Vietnam should have taught that all the weapons in the world cannot change what is in a person's head. The more you kill, the more you build their ranks and the more they will come after you. Only a fool like Bush could think we can be secure from that.

ANTI WAR OR PRO PEACE !!!

THE ANTI WAR GROUPS HAVE MANY GOOD POINTS BUT I BELIEVE THEY ARE MISSING THE MAIN POINT FOR OBTAINING PEACE. IT IS NOT JUST THE OCCUPATION OF IRAQ THAT MATTERS. THEY SHOULD BE CONCENTRATING ON BEING ANTI MILITARY.

WE HAVE A HUGE OUT OF CONTROL MILITARY FORCE THAT IS UNNECESSARY FOR PEACE. AS LONG AS WE HAVE THIS LARGE MILITARY THE WAR HAWKS IN THE PENTAGON WILL LEAD US FROM ONE WAR TO THE NEXT. THAT’S THEIR JOB – WAR.
WE DON’T HAVE ANY THREATS OF INVASION OF OUR COUNTRY BY ANY OTHER NATION. TERRORIST GROUPS MUST BE CONTROLLED BY INTELLIGENCE FORCES AND NOT BY MILITARY FORCES.

TAKE THEIR CANON FODDER AWAY, TO BE ANTI WAR YOU MUST BE ANTI MILITARY.
TO START, LETS CLOSE ALL OVERSEAS MILITARY BASES NOW. CUT THE TROOPS, CUT THE BASES AND EQUIPMENT AND ONLY THEN WE WILL SEE REAL PEACE.
