Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

Governor Dean:

If Democrats do gain control, he said, Republicans should expect to be investigated: "If we get subpoena power" in congressional committees, "the corruption will come out on America's TV screens, and that scares the daylights out of the Republicans." he said.

Of course it scares them -- quite a few would find themselves voted off the island when congress starts acting like a body with the ability, and responsibility, to police itself.

How I would love to see President Dean issue an order to his attorney general to appoint independent counsel to investigate all of the Republican disgraces, including the Plame affair, the Diebold voting machines, the cherry picking and outright lying on the Iraq "intelligence", the Dubai contract, all of the Haliburton no-bid contracts, Delay and the Samoan sex trade...the list is endless.

Run, Howard, run.

This is my first time to blog on this site, but I am a loyal dem & can't stand to see what's happening to this country.

First of all - the leaders of the party need to all get on the same page. Sit down with President Clinton, some of the govenors, senators (Obama for one - would love to see him run in 08), keep it small, but bring in voices from outside DC. Get a message, take advantage of how bad everything is going. Get a backbone & stand up to Bush. Thank you.

Dead Eye Dick Cheney just threatened Iran over its nukes program.

I guess Dub and Dick are fixin' to change the bad guy - again - in true Orwellian fashion.

This time they might launch their fear mongering machine (Rove) toward a nation that should have been on the first list.

What a bunch of inept, disconnected traitors.
By the way, Cheney is a crimminal. Period.

Go get 'em, Dicky. Blast 'em with that .28 gauge shotgun that really belonged to the woman whose butt you covered.

Reform isn't possible without truth and we won't get the truth until we control at least one house of congress. So perhaps the message of the day for us all is, "the truth shall set us free."

BlueState, Thank You for your comments. The Democrats are doing exactly as you stated about speaking up and with gusto.

Do you think if we voted in Senator Clinton for President we would also get former President Clinton as her top advisor? Two for One, wow!
And How about Edwards for V. President and Wes Clark as Sec. Of Defense?

We would have peace with other Nations and Allies
a plenty? Low crime rates, low proverty, higher education would rise, less people on welfare, every class would prosper, the middle class would expand, again, less abortion, every Nation praising the USA, again,"instead of protest, every where the Clintons go there are always praise and honor," pay off the National debt, supply the troops with armor and health insurance, with every support that is lacking now, we could tell the troops responsible help is on the way, tell every citizen they can trust their Government again with spying, with warrents, on the foreign enemys instead of the political opposition, Tell the citizens they can trust the danger codes again to mean what it says, and never use fear to control them. EVERYTHING GOOD WOULD BE BETTER AND EVERYTHING BAD WOULD GET BETTER. What do you think,BlueState?

Nice to see you BlueState.

I'm with you about bringing in voices from outside the Beltway. But I really don't understand where President Clinton's head is now days. A summit of sorts would make sense; maybe a progressive think tank is doing just that.

The question is "if Democrats gain control," and that isn't going to happen until Democrats have a message that appeals to regular Americans, the ones who make $12.00 an hour and shop at Wal-Mart.

This fall, Karl Rove is going to have anti-Gay marriage and probably antiabortion amendments on several state ballots, and that will bring out the kinds of people who usually do not vote because they are disengaged except for "moral" issues.

If you live in Spelunky, Ohio and have never been on an airplane in your life, and the only college graduates you know are your kid's schoolteachers, then port security, Jack Abramoff and Iraq don't much matter to you. But the idea of a man in drag in a wedding dress flouncing down the aisle of your church, and moving into the big house on the hill bothers the hell out of you, especially when he drives a decent car and has a good job that lets him not have to decide which bills to pay now and which ones to pay later.

When Domocrats start setting the vocabulary by referring to "civil liberties" as "God-given American rights" as guaranteed in our Constitution, for example, when Democrats start carrying the argument to the Republicans by referring to those in power as "Washington insiders," the "Republican elite" and "corporate cronies," when Democrats stop letting senators do the talking for the Party and start listening to governors like Howard Dean and Bill Clinton, the last two successful Democrats, and Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, the next two, maybe, just maybe, the Democrats will take back the country.

But whatever happens, it's going to happen outside the beltway, not inside, and that's something that Karl Rove has known for years.

The pain I felt as I watched the State of the Union Address. As I saw the men and women who represent me acting like children. Whenever the President, the American people's choice of executive authority, said one of his triumphs the only a few Democrats would stand. While he stated his failures almost all democrats stood. I feel that the cavern that has developed between Democrats and Republicans has grown to the point that it hinders, no hurts, the American people. Our leaders have gotten caught into this power hungry battle. They hate eachother and spit at eachother through hellos and how are yous. I know there are corrupt Democrats and there are corrupt Republicans. Why don't we all learn to fix the problems in our own philosophies before we curse and attack others. Make the Democratic party morally outstanding and then when you've weeded out all of your own corruptions then and only then do you have a small right to draw up the coruptions of the Republicans.

Gosh, where were you when we endured three years of Republican-led witch-hunt against a popular sitting president who brought spectacularly successful fiscal sanity to our budget, populated federal agencies with competent, exprienced and qualified people who performed well (ask Floridians about how well FEMA was prepapred for THEIR major hurricane), brought together a REAL coalition of governments to prosecute a short and successful war against Milosevic, built American prestige abroad among friend and foe. Were you pleading with your Republican friends to "just get along," I wonder?

And as for Bush's "triumphs" please enlighten us. Give us a short list of say, oh, I don't know - three? And although I'd love to spend a few paragraphs knocking "tax cuts" out of the park, try to list a few that don't start with a dollar sign, would you?

Russ Feingold for President! He seems to be able to stand up for not only Democratic ideals, but for moral ideals. He seems like a genuine person not coerced by deals, money, favors, or bullying. This is the kind of person any party would want at the helm.

As for Hilary. She just doesn't cut it. She doesn't have the charisma, the power, the ability to make contact with the average American, and she sends out muttled messages. Plus, it's like she's trying to come in on the coattails of her husband's successful presidency. And that not puts people off, but it really stands out. Running for President is not something one inherits.

And, the Republicans seem to be united. Why can't the Democrats be united? The Republicans stand fast by their message (of greed, power, and discrimination), so why can't Democrats stand by their basic message of "government by the people, for the people"? Dean seems to be the only Democrat who isn't bowing and cowtowing. There is just as much talent, intelligence, courage, and money in the Democratic party to accomplish this.

And we musn't let Bush distract us from any of his outrageous antics inside the beltway each time he decides to "visit" Hurricane Katrina places. After all, he doesn't take Rove with him.

And, has anyone seen Rove? Is Rove married? Or maybe he's gay, since he seems to protest too much about gays. Does anyone know?

Was that the quote?

If Democrats get control, what, pray tell, will they do to protect reproductive rights? It would seem, as far as South Dakota goes, nothing.

Getting my vote? Not a chance. Not until you start *screaming* from the rooftops about our right to *not* be parents. Not until notification laws are banned. Not until abortion and birth control (for men and women) are a contstitutionally protected right. Not until universal health care is enacted (come on, where's the discussion on HR 676?). Not until marriage is open to all.

No, Democrats will not get my vote. Not until strong a$$ed language is used to promote our rights. No more pansey-ing around. I want someone with t!ts/ball$ to stand on a podium and loudly proclaim this is our United States and we have rights to make persynal decisions.

Oh, and Hillary: you were my heroine. I looked up to you, held you as my roll model and in high regard. But not anymore. Not since you started to support the Iraq War. You will not get my vote. And it breaks my heart. I wanted to see you as the first Ms. President. Now, if that happens, I'll cry and be ashamed I ever supported you. Hillary, you (and the DNC) can take me off your mailing list, you're not getting my money. Not until I see a spark of life in your complacent eyes.
