50 State Canvass: Frisco, Texas

I am a long time feminist and gay activist but new to the political arena. In December we started a chapter of Stonewall Democrats (an LGBT organization) in Collin County, one of the most Republican counties in Texas and we have all hit the ground running. National Stonewall and the Democratic Party of Collin County have really helped with our huge learning curve and our members are getting involved as precinct chairs, as delegates, and in local campaigns.
I got on the 50 State canvass website and didn't see anyone in our county, so I and 2 other members created events in our cities. Mine is the Frisco Neighbor-to Neighbor Canvass and honestly I thought I’d be going door to door myself. Imagine my surprise when I saw 8 people signed up! Rick Koster candidate for State Representative District 70 brought some literature by and I am anxiously awaiting the priority mail from the state.
One of the bumper stickers on my car says "Collin County Democrat" and lately it seems wherever I go someone comments on finally finding another Democrat. There are lots of us out here even in Collin County and I finally feel the momentum shifting. Wouldn’t it be terrific if we could turn Texas blue?
Looking forward to tomorrow (hopefully the Texas weather will cooperate!)

I live in Frisco and in the school please! we don't talk about it! EVERYONE is pro Bush well, except for me, and maybe a few others I see roll their eyes when "the band starts playing". I don't like it and I have voted in recent elections to prove my point. That is when someone other than a Republican has run. It's difficult but I am for change!

Hi Jeane,
I am here in Irving and I have found that many Democrates have been in hiding and when you find one, it is like a family reunion. I canvassed alone this time but hopefully, next time, I will have company. Glad you had so much success.

Texas is one State that has put our Democrats in a box. But the fighting Progressives will punch their way out of the Box and speak up and speak out. After all most Texas Rangers are Democrats and the Texas Rangers and their Democratic
supporters have a reputation of being fighters for truth and willing to speak out to even the opposition to explain the good points of being a Democrat and the pitfalls of being a Republican.
The Republicans can't depend on their Party to stick to their Platform? Every Republican Candidate will promise one thing(like Bush did) and then go in the opposite direction. While the Democrats plod along with the same goals each Election. Sometimes it is to improve an issue already in Law or change a few mistakes made in the past by Republicans or Democrats, whomever has been in power. But Democrats main goal is to educate and give everyone an oppertunity to work hard to pull out of proverty. Every class takes a step up the ladder of success under Democrats. Even those that have fallen back into proverty under Republicans can again see the light at the end of the tunnel, under Democrats. We have a full proven plan to pay down the Deficit. We can do it without stopping the tax cuts to the middleclass and the poor. The unusual thing about the Democrats Plan is the Wealthy prosper right along with the middleclass and the poor
working class!
