What are the Deadlines to Register to Vote in the Upcoming Elections?

  • Open Primary Election is September 30: The deadline to register is August 30, 2006.

  • Open General/Congressional Primary Election is November 7: The deadline to register is October 9, 2006.

  • Congressional Runoff/Tie Election is December 9: The deadline to register is November 8, 2006.

How do I Vote In Person?

New Orleans voters can vote in person on Election Day. Use the Precinct Locator to find out where you should go to vote, or contact the Louisiana Secretary of State Elections Division at 1-800-883-2805 for more information. Don't forget every voter must either present a valid photo ID, or sign an affidavit if no photo ID is available.


If I'm a Displaced New Orleans Citizen, How Do I Vote Absentee?

Displaced New Orleans registered voters can participate in the September 30 Open Primary Election by voting with an Absentee Ballot. If you requested an absentee ballot for the April 22nd or May 20th election, you will automatically receive one at the same address for the September 30th election.

    Mandatory: If you are a displaced voter who registered BY MAIL from October 5, 2004 - September 24, 2005, and have NEVER voted, you MUST complete a Displaced Voter Affidavit in addition to the request for ballot form.
