Thnx DPD for the notification of new thread action. I didn't miss Sally, I just bit my tongue, err fingernails so I didn't type anything offensive towards him.
ah, here it is. Sally deserves no recognition, except as a continuing symptom of the demise of the GOP
Good to see Dean, and good to see the notification that he would be on.
I was a little disappointed that when pressed he didn't mention a) Debbie Stabenow's $500 rebate plan, five times greater than the Republican plan and b) Bob Menendez's gas tax holiday proposal. However, did do a good job outlining our agenda right there on national television, mentioning the website and the doorhangers.
Just time for a quickie;)
"Choose your leaders with wisdom and forethought. To be led by a coward is to be controlled by all that the coward fears. To be led by a fool is to be led by the opportunists who control the fool. To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen. To be led by a liar is to ask to be lied to. To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery."

A Story About Oil You NEED To Hear
This is the real reason for going into Iraq and for the plan to bomb Iran...which will start WWIII, BTW
Karen, thanks for the heads up on Amazon. I can't believe I didn't check out Buy Blue before I posted. Good job, sista!
Will Democrats Do Another "Ostrich" Routine On Iran?
excerpt: My ongoing question is more about why the Congress has not made more of it. I find it hard to see (where) there is an authorization from them (Congress) to do this. (The) War Powers Act does not seem to be working because the Congress was not notified after 60 days. The 2001 terrorism legislation gives authority to go after those responsible for 9/11 but not axis of evil in general. So, who agreed to allow this to happen?
MSNBC Breaking News: Radio host Rush Limbaugh arrested on prescription fraud charges
LOL!
Hahahahahahahaha!
JUNKIE!
LOL!
hahahahahahaha!
"Limbaugh must do 18 months of treatment for his drug abuse and the judge will drop the charges."
pffffffft figures!
just heard it from the other room on msnbc
they say it's a victory for LUSH
Cyn...Barnes and Noble is blue...I always buy from them when I can't buy local.
I was a buck late and a day short, but that is hilarious news.
wondering why we're not hearing from the Grand Jury today about Rove. They did meet today right?
jinx dell and loc
LOC from that article
"I am pleased to announce that the State Attorney's Office and Mr. Limbaugh have reached an agreeement whereby a single count charge of doctor shopping filed today by the State Attorney will be dismissed in 18 months. As a primary condition of the dismissal, Mr. Limbaugh must continue to seek treatment from the doctor he has seen for the past two and one half years. This is the same doctor under whose care Mr. Limbaugh has remained free of his addiction without relapse.
Hey, Dawnie!!
Deb, I learned that today from Karen. Can't believe I didn't check it out sooner!
An American soldier was killed in a roadside bombing north of Baghdad, the U.S. military said Friday, making April the deadliest month for American forces in Iraq this year.
The number of U.S. troops who have died this month in Iraq are 67.
Deb, all the more reason to March in NYC tomorrow - April 29th
*waving to all*
Dawn, so you and your Tonito are going to meet? How cool is that?
(waving to liz)
take pics for us and upload them ok? enjoy the march!!!
Karen, thanks for the heads up on Amazon. I can't believe I didn't check out Buy Blue before I posted. Good job, sista!

Buy Blue shows Boarders being blue, however if you go to their web site they are partners with Amazon and use Amazon's ordering site. I wonder how that affects where our money goes?
Hi, Lavender - that's a little too complicated. Good question...
oops my mistake, Borders doesn't have a rating.....Sorry!
Randi just said LUSH will never spend a minute in jail. I believe it.
HotSprings DEB it was very nice talking to you as well last night. We did go on though didn't we?
Horse stories tend to do that for me. :-) oops that reminds me I need to call my daughter shortly.
Randi just said LUSH will never spend a minute in jail. I believe it.
Dawnie,
If he doesn't go to prison as a drug addict, it simply drags into the open what we have known along: your money talks, and you walk. So much for equal justice under the law, huh??
And yes I will post lots of pictures tomorrow night for you guys. And please share your pics too when you meet with Tony. Oh what a sweet man.
Cyn, how's the family???
Statement from Flush's Lawyer
They are calling it a "Victory" (I guess Limpballs was afraid of doing HARD TIME. He ALSO has to pay a $30,000 fine).
I'm going over to Freeperville to watch all the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.
TEE HEE
P.S. Flush used to have a separate blog on his site called something like "See how Rush fights the Liberal's False Charges", this announcement was on the Home page, but in teeny little letters.
How will his girlfriend Dana take this?
Hey Lizzy
Randi is going to be marching with you guys tomorrow!!!! Kewl beans I hope you meet her!
How will his girlfriend Dana take this?

oops I thought daryn kagan was his GF????
Lizzy, coming along slowly, but surely. Good days and then a little backsliding, but doing extremely well for their age. Thanks for asking and I wish I could be with you tomorrow! And, how is your Mom doing?
Pictures from tomorrow are a must! Is Bea going?
DPD
wasn't it you who said you've watch Fitzpatrick work over the years and he likes to announce things on Fridays? The grand jury met today right? I am chomping at the bit to hear some news of a possible ROVE indictment!
Dean on hardball again right now
Man he's soooooo good compared to his counterpart on the PUG side.
He's quick, smart, and on the money. They can't mess him up. I love it. He was also great on Al Franken today.
A Freeper has the mug shot of Flush doing his best Tom DeLay. It's post # 44 if you are interested.
SMILE
It was on the Palm Beach Post web site, but was removed after about a half hour.
Batten down the hatches, here come the TROLLS.
Cyn and Dawn,
I met Rachel Maddow and Liz Winstead at the last NOW protest.

I heard Tucker Carlson say Rachel is a Rhode Scholar last night. I don't like how she goes on his program. She needs to punch that little drip in his ugly mug! LOL

CYN as long as it's not the Damn Yankees (old nugent band)
have a great weekend!!
Did you all know that Tim is leaving the DNC.
New open thread, he says he may end up in Pams neck of the woods doing, I wonder if John E has decided to run?
I've been praying.
I always thought Target was fairly Blue. I know that they donate 10% of their take to local Charities.
Chicago finally let Wal-Mart build ONE store in the City, (in a depressed high unemployment area),but they put all kinds of Pay, Benefits, labor rules on the approval. The City is lousy with Targets, though. Wal-Mart has taken to buying property on the borders of Chicago because just crossing the street will mean they have to play by the City's Fair Labor Rules.
I should have said this earlier
Dr. Dean you did a GREAT job today on Lardball and AL Franken's show. I caught them both thankfully.
You are the perfect spokesman for our party. Probably more than we deserve of late. Thanks for caring for our country! Thanks for leading our party. Thanks for being HONEST!
I should have spent more time considering your campaign for President in 04. I was already a Wes Clark supporter but now I think you would have made a fantastic President.
If it matters at all. I felt I needed to say it.
Merci, Dank, Gracias, Thanks!
Dawn (long time dnc blogger)
Glad to see support for Dr. Dean. We need more like him in the Democratic Party. I think he has what it takes to put this country back on the right path.
Dawnie,
I'm here, but I am leaving to do a puzzle with my daughter. I'll check back in a while.
Aw Chris you're a nice daddy! Have fun and give her lots of attention. Girls love that from their dads.
tap tap tap tap (fingers on the keys)
tick tock goes the clock
who is back from canvassing? who has some juicey tidbits of info from our recent event?
I am hungry for info!! feeeeeeeeed me!
LOL j/k
Dawn, That thing Colbert is hosting is the White House Correspondents Dinner, where they basically rip the Party in charge.
Valerie Plame is an invited guest this year.
Colbert is a flaming Liberal whose schtick is to out-O'Reiley O'Reiley.
So...since when is Comedy Central a recognized news operation? (They are actually the ONLY place to get the real news, besides Olberman).
from Domingo's post on the other thread
Republicans say goodbye to Tom Delay
wooHOO and oh so funny!
really???? I mean really dpd????
Than I will have to watch it. When they announced it on the news a few minutes ago they didn't mention any of that. All I heard was white house blah blah for bush and was about to BUST!!
He scares me he's so convincing (whew feeling better now) thanks for the correction!
dpd
on the other hand I'd never believe he was a flaming liberal or he'd NEVER have shook the hand of some of the creeps he's interviewed on his show. I am a flaming liberal and would sooner spit in their face. No matter how much they paid me.
(bill kristol being one I could name recently) PUKEEEEEEEEEEEEE neocon dog
I just can't stand the thought of entertaining Liars, murderers and thieves unless they are adequately incarcerated for their crimes!
And then I have 2nd thoughts about it.
I am getting like PAULIE lately and it almost scares me. But anyone that still claims to support this insane and oily killing machine of greed will not be tolerated by me any longer. I'm just not as nice as I used to be. BLAME W!
I don't know, maybe he has some "brush to clear". None-the-less, he will still be a target, as well as all the sphincters in the MSM who have refused to do their jobs for the past 6 years.
Posted by DPD on April 29, 2006 at 05:35 PM
do ALL the major networks have R's behind their name? That could be part of the reason. It's probably hard to rage against the lies when your BOSS is directly involved in the crimes against humanity!!!
Just watched Kristol on Colbert. It was good! I haven't heard any news about what went on today. Like Dawnie, I am curious. Anyone have any 411 about this?
Thanks, Dawn! I finally found my way here. Anyone else experiencing gas stations with no gas in your area?
YW CYN!
dangit looks like W will be attending afterall! YUCK!!
It's like making jokes about the ONE legged man in the middle of a VA hospital! JUST NOT FUNNY!!!
well not to me.
Posted by Cyn_NY on April 29, 2006 at 05:18 PM
ON THE OTHER THREAD.
Cyn, Cumberlin Farms is partially owned by Gulf Oil, and they have a clause in their franchise agreement that they can NOT be closed for a certain number of consecutive days, or they will be in violation of their franchise agreement. What has been happening around here is that the OIL COMPANIES are refusing to deliver gas in order to have the independents run out, so the stations can be taken over by the Majors.
There is one station that only opened 2 hours a day so their tanks wouldn't run dry.
This way the OIL COMPANIES can shut down the independent franchises, and have their own stations get all the business.
HECK OF A JOB, W.
I think having bush at the dinner will be great, especially because Colbert will be emceeing. I hope he does something that ticks the idiot off so badly, he turns bright red and throws a temper tantrum.
Posted by DPD on April 29, 2006 at 05:52 PM
sons of B*&^%$'s!!
btw dpd your very artistic "we've moved to another thread" always cracks me UP!! LOL
Colbert will probably have a 5 minute smarmy tribute to "THE DECIDER".
HEHEHEHEEE
Sorry, I should have gone into more depth. Gulf was absorbed by some other OIL COMPANY in a HUGE merger, and so the plot thickens.
Posted by Chris on April 29, 2006 at 05:53 PM
(shakin my head) Chris, Chris, Chris, you give W too much credit. He will NOT get Colbert! He will think he's on HIS side. I am quite positive of this. And I'm pretty sure he's not been following him all along to perhaps have a better understanding.
Unless one of his aides has compiled a CD for him to watch. Even then I'm not sure he'd get it.
hell i don't even get his humor
JON Stewart on the other hand is fantastic!! But I'm sure they'd NEVER invite him.
DPD, you are a wealth of knowledge! I can't believe those f--kers! Thanks so much for the information. I will take from here.
Posted by Cyn_NY on April 29, 2006 at 06:01 PM
YEs he is and thankfully he's on OUR side! :-)
Gez I think Valerie would NEVER show up either. She's OUT of a JOB because of that AHOLE!!!
Dawnie, I'm not on the blog that much, except for the morning. DPD Rocks!!!!!! No wonder everyone was looking for him earlier in the week. DPD, I am your new biggest fan.
just thinking
Since Rush, Frist, Delay, etc have all come tumbling down I wonder if we can get some good detective types on the trail of the few remaining MOLD SPORES like Hannity and even his boss would be better (or equally as good) Rupert must have zillions of skeletons just itching to be released from his closet!
And I am sure Hannity has an equally disturbing one as well. If we silence the lies we start to correct the problem right?
I've just received an email back from xdebx who went out to canvass today........ she's not real happy. I've asked her if I can repeat her letter here. Waiting for her response.
Dawn, I hope she lets you - what in the heck could have happened to her?
I think Colbert is a conservative doing a spoof of a liberal pretending to be conservative. He brings up points that liberals don't understand and would never mention.
Cyn
It's mostly about the locals being clueless..... is all. But I gave here the link for here so maybe she'll come tell you all herself I hope.
her the link for here...........doh
I'm an honest person. does that mean I have to be honest all the time even if no one asks me? tell me quick before I say something I think I will regret
Posted by YumpnYimminy on April 29, 2006 at 06:25 PM
breaking with tradition -
then why do you come here?
is your life so worthless that you have nothing better to do than wreak havoc where ever you go? How sad is that? Really?
btw, the average joe doesn't show up to vote anyway..........I am quite sure OUR base will outnumber the PUG base in 06 and we WILL show up! I no longer think you are either pug or LIBertarian......... just lonely and alone and have only been taught that to communicate is to harrass....(your mother must have been a horrid creature, perhaps a prostitute or something) ..... nothing more. surely much less..... sad. (but you could change, if you wanted to, maybe, depending on how DEEP in the dark your world has become)
WE seek the truth. Sometimes that is hard to take but better to KNOW thine enemy.
On the Run From Hatred
In her youth, Tanja Privenau embraced the mystique of Germany's dark past. Now she seeks sanctuary and fears that neo-Nazis will find her.
DRESDEN, Germany — She wore a tattoo of a Viking wielding an ax, screamed epithets at Jews and dark-skinned foreigners, reveled in the sinister glamour of the bygone Third Reich and married her second husband on Hitler's birthday.
Her inspiration had a seductive voice. She remembers seeking comfort in the rousing tales of her grandfather, a World War II veteran who, like many of his time, was left to sort through pride, denial and anger in a nation ruined by the deeds of a man with an odd, twitching mustache.
"My grandfather was my idol," Privenau says. "He told me about life as a soldier. I had to write an essay in school once about the bad things the Reich did. Back then you didn't question that the Reich was bad. That was all they taught.
"My grandfather was personally attacked by what I wrote. We discussed it. He denied he knew about the murder of the Jews, but at the same time, he'd say, 'I don't know why those Jews didn't listen. They were told to leave and if they didn't it was their own bad luck.' "
Sounds like what the neo-Nazis here in this country say about the people of New Orleans. Evidently they were supposed to "anticipate the breach of the levees" even if no one else could.

SURE
First I did all of my e-mails and then started reading the thread...just haven't caught up yet. I hate posting when I haven't a clue what everybody's been talking about, but it seems like that's the way it is most of the time:-(
sad sad sad - I can pity the dirty ugly rat dog that keeps snarling and yiping at my feet! Depending on my mood of course. Today I have sympathy for the devil for he was spawned of something much worse!
Hi Deb! I heard you canvassed today too? Jeff and I had a great time, but I hear you didn't?
Jumping in and out. Trying to cook a white clam sauce. However, the half wit troll with nothing else to do on a saturday nite but spend it with liberal dems is pretty sad. Sorry, Steve, but you are either with us or against us. And, I'm starting to think you are with us. Better company and all that...
Hi, Karen!!
oh crap JEN you are jefro??? I guess I was gone just long enough to miss that one! LOLOL
Deb I told them you thought most of the locals were clueless but didnt post the email.
jefro is my jefro but i forgot he was still signed in on the computer he used last night when i said hi.
Jen our new moderator will be more involved I think. She said hello last night! I was very surprised!! and Pleased! Miss TracyJ!
oh, oh , ok your hubby jeff
deb and you both have jeff's (interesting)
I hope so Dawnie! Hi Cyn! I've never had clam sauce before (embarrassed). Hope your folks are doing well.
YY is what happens when women are FORCED to have children they do NOT want - especially if they are illiterate and addicted to crack or something else as mentally destructive. sad.
heheh - ok I am being mui mean but it appears to be working - maybe someone will come with a fly swatter soon or this bug will implode!
It was worth losing my ice cream for the day.
the party that is fighting terrorism or the party(Dems)which is fighting for terrorist rights? Posted by YumpnYimminy
That's the trouble, Bush and Cheney don't care about "fighting terrorism or al qaeda". They only care about stealing oil while they let the real terress run free. Osama videos anyone?
Sally, you are a liar, you are evil, and a pest. I refuse to believe that you could possibly be a mensa member because anyone with any intelligence would have matured past being an obnoxious 14 year old...unless you are 14, if so it makes you a liar again.
What exactly is your purpose? Are you a neocon fan? If so why don't you enlighten us on how any of their policies have helped the country? If you want serious debate then go for it. This group will gladly debate any real issue that you present.
Being generally hateful to the people blogging here (and their relatives) simply shows that you wouldn't be worth pissing on if you were on fire.
BTW...I'm younger than you, smarter than you, better looking than you and I have ovaries which beats balls any day of the week when it comes to protecting my children. I am fighting for democracy for my children and future grandchildren, and if I succeed I will be protecting yours also.
How can you possibly desire a corporate/facist country for your child?
YY, you know we've been damned nice to you. Quit saying that shit to Dawn. Pick on me instead.
Jen, it's an Italian dish. If you like to cook, I can send you a recipe. If not, order it in your nearest Italian restaurant. :-) Parents are doing very well, thanks.
Poor Steve. Even his wing nuts have disappointed him. Wonder how his poor daughter feels?
Posted by xdebx on April 29, 2006 at 06:54 PM
I am woman, hear me roar!! LOL
Now don't go losing YOUR ice cream credits!! I did it for all of us tonight! And it's mama didn't want it! :-(( have a little sympathy. (j/k)
ok I'm done responding to this infection. pass me the antibiotics please! ;-)
My e to Dawn
Oh...(sigh)...Dawn...even the dems are all about what ever they hear on TV. People don't know, they just really don't have a clue what's going on. I mean it's like as long as the TV keeps them intertained they are just going to ignore the war and are clueless that democracy no longer exists. Other than that it was a beautiful day, and I got a lot of exercise and met nice people, albeit clueless. I hope I encouraged people to vote dem. deb
I very much enjoyed the day...just wish that more people were tuned into the net.
Posted by jen on April 29, 2006 at 06:55 PM
it's ok Jen I hit the ONE nerve it possesses...... it's mama issues! I don't read what it puts out after a certain point and I am smart enough to know why it's imploding. It's a home run for me today!
Jeff's the one that cooks here, Cyn, but I'll ask him if he would be willing to try it. Thanks! Glad folks are doing well.
Go Deb! Too bad you're talking to a wall of ignorance and filth. I've gone round and round with him before and get nothing but pissed and dizzy. He's a waste of space.
The republican sex pervert is back online, I see. Hey pervert, wana explain to me again how if a republican is a pedophile, then it's OK?
Any one coming to Asheville for the DFA training next week?
A href="http://www.dfalink.com/event.php?id=4114">DFA
Ooo Domingo you just reminded me about the "sex for votes" scandal in the news recently. I can't wait to hear the list of "at least a dozen" others besides Cunningham that were involved at the Watergate Hotel!
This will play out all summer I bet!!!! Just in time for NOV.
hey deb, i understand where you're coming from.
we ran into some guys on the street, african-american, and one said he doesn't vote because his vote didn't count, and another said he would probably vote for Blackwell for governor, (Republican) because on this radio station (that Blackwell happens to be an investor in) they say that Strickland is against hip hop music. ??? We educated them as best we could, but it's a damn shame.
Thanks for the e's Jen and Dawn. Like I said I had a lovely day.
I was really hoping that someone might have noticed the annual deficit, war lies, corruption, etc. A few people talked about the prescription drug fiasco and most everyone is wanting to know what the dem stance on illegal immigrants is. There is such a gap between what people on the net know and what the general public knows.
We MUST push the Congress to restore the Fairness Doctrine and actually make it stronger. This is priority #1 when we take the House and Senate next winter. I'm all for requiring that each party has their own correspondent of the white house and also to include Congress and that each MUST be given equal time.
Posted by xdebx on April 29, 2006 at 07:04 PM
not me of course but you understand why - I do however have a DFA bumper sticker on my car!! Proudly!
Just want to get this posted and read, before these Neo-cons set up Rice in front of the UN, like they did Powell, and have her telling fat lies about Iran has all kinds of WMDS !

you were up at black mountain right?
I'm sure if you were in Asheville you would have found a few more literate folks around. At least their local NEWS and NEWS paper are well informed!!
Yeah, Pam, invading/attacking Iran is all about selling oil in Euro's. This pack of lying neocon thieves just wants all the money no matter how much blood is spilled. If we get the House and Senate I don't have a problem with taking back all of their money they've gained through lies and war and use it for good in the world.
Posted by Domingo on April 29, 2006 at 07:14 PM
WOW!!! I'm sure you've checked a few of those stats out to be sure they are accurate? I'd hate to send that on w/out proper attribution. But what an incredible list if all true!!
Man, sometimes I feel sorry for Yimmy or whatever his stupid name is. Imagine going through your life thinking your doing 'good' only to be angry and bitter in your twilight years. If he could read, I would recommend he read an inoffensive little American classic called To Kill a Mockingbird. Of course he will say he read it, but he needs to really read it. I'd love to sit down and teach its themes to him. I think it would really help him to understand the stereotypes and hate mongering he is doing.

And deb, here is Dean's statement on Immigration today, posted here:
Dean: Comprehensive and Compassionate Immigration Reform NeededMarch 29, 2006
Next week, Republican Senate Leader Bill Frist is likely to introduce a harmful immigration bill on to the Senate floor that will criminalize good Samaritans, including church members and clergy, and does not provide a larger, comprehensive framework for reform or a path to citizenship. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement on President Bush and the Republican Congress's failure to lead on the issue of immigration:
"President Bush and his Republican Congress's failure to offer comprehensive solutions on immigration reform and their attempt to use the issue to divide Americans is contrary to our values as a people and does a disservice to all who live and work in this great nation. The hostile anti-immigrant bill passed by the Republican House and now being considered by the Republican Senate is not the answer. America needs comprehensive immigration reform that protects our borders, keeps our communities safe, and brings America together.
"Criminalizing families and the work of clergy is not the way forward. A comprehensive and compassionate approach must protect all U.S. workers and their wages, prevent exploitation of immigrant workers, and offer immigrants who have earned it the opportunities and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship. The American people want change, not more of the same scape-goating and ineffective, piecemeal immigration reform Republicans are proposing."

So if they're "political unknown" Republicans, then it's OK if they're pedophile sex perverts?
Jefro and I were canvassing today in what's considered a 'bad' neighborhood by people who never get out of their cars. We had the best time. The people we met were incredibly nice, mainly elderly folks but a few younger folks too, more blacks than whites, (in case you are interested in the demographics) many retired, one muni bond trader, but more often blue collar. We were enjoying the mock tudor architecture and the flowers in the carefully tended yards, a couple of whom had the most gorgeous spread of lilies of the valley. I smelled them before I saw them, they were heavenly (my fave). The weather was lovely, and though I got blisters on my feet from walking I would do it again tomorrow. (I had been really nervous beforehand and nearly chickened out but I'm so glad I didn't.) We even got a recommendation of a good tree service from a gentleman who had a 120 year old oak tree in his yard. This sweet older man went through about 50 business cards looking for the name, bless his heart. Anyway, BlueinRedCincy canvassed too but unfortunately we missed each other in the morning. We were planning to go to the cookout and meet her after but we managed to pick up a key in our tire so we had skip the bbq to get to the shop before they closed at 3. The only bummer. :( But we will meet sometime soon.
DAWN, demand a provisional ballot if you don't get your stuff in time.
US War Costs "Could Hit $811Bn"
Of course the article implies that this war is go on on forever.
Just think of what we really could be doing with the money...investing in alternative forms of energy, bringing living wage jobs to Americans and, yes, even illegal immigrants...helping Mexico become an industrialized country so that people won't want to risk their lives coming across the Rio Grande. It is all doable and every one including corporations can win.
boy you guys should read some of the stuff on the humane thread. dorsano did a great job of bringing some sense to them, he rocks.

I've got 10 minutes - lol
and I won't be gone long unless my baby calls....... lol @ me callin her my baby (24 too old to be a baby?) nahhhhhhh!!
So Yimmy, what do you stand for? I guess you don't care about people since unknown people screwing 14 year olds is all right. I can respect the fact that you don't care about people...you must not call yourself a member of the moral majority then.
You've made that same social Darwinist comment before. I know you don't know what that means so I will explain it to you: basically you believe that some people's lives are worth more than others...at this point I agree with you too. Your life is definitely worth less than mine for instance, because I care about the common good of humanity, whereas you care about...uhm, you care about ... hey what do you stand for?
I imagine you will probably skirt the question of respect since you have none anyway.

A Ten Year Sentence for Marcus Dwayne Dixon
Recently, the Georgia Supreme Court heard arguments in Dixon v. State. The case involves the conviction of Marcus Dwayne Dixon for statutory rape and aggravated child molestation. (Dixon was acquitted of rape and several other charges.)
Statutory rape is sex between an adult and a minor, while aggravated child molestation also involves an injury. At the time of his offense, Dixon was an 18-year-old high school football player who had sex with a 15-year-old female classmate. The aggravated child molestation statute mandates a ten-year minimum sentence, and Dixon challenges the harshness of the resulting penalty.
The case has attracted claims of racism, because the victim was a white girl and the convict an outstanding African-American student with a football scholarship to Vanderbilt.

U.S. Reports a Surge in Global Terrorism
The count has soared since the Iraq invasion, but only now are attacks there being included.
WASHINGTON — The State Department's annual report on global terrorism, released Friday, concludes that the number of reported terrorist incidents and deaths has increased exponentially in the three years since the United States invaded Iraq, largely because of Iraq itself.
The report said there were 11,111 attacks that caused 14,602 deaths in 2005. Those figures stand in contrast to prior State Department reports, which cited 208 terrorist attacks that caused 625 deaths in 2003; and 3,168 attacks that caused 1,907 deaths in 2004.
Critics, led by Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Los Angeles), said the Bush administration was trying to manipulate the statistics used in the report to suggest that it was winning the war on terrorism when it was actually losing it.
Administration officials denied that, but acknowledged that previous reports had missed huge swaths of terrorist incidents.
On Friday, Waxman said that the report still needed work, and that it showed the war in Iraq had caused terrorism to increase.
"For the third year in a row, the Bush administration is playing games with the numbers to hide the truth: Global terrorism has skyrocketed since the invasion of Iraq," Waxman said in a statement.
LA Times
Hi, everyone. Hope those that canvassed had a fun day.
Here's some interesting remarks by the chief trade negotiator from Quatar regarding Bush administration fast- track status:
"The talks were not proceeding in the right direction. They were going nowhere. It was like two deaf people talking to each other. There was no sense in continuing with the dialogue," Al Khalifa said.
..."Let's take time and review things," said Al Khalifa. "Sometimes powerful countries put preconditions that are not in the interest of smaller countries."
The ambassador said there were concerns that accepting preconditions now could lead to the imposition of even greater demands later.
"It becomes a vicious circle," he said.
Questioning the need for a free trade agreement in the first place, Al Khalifa said
World Trade Organization agreements were sufficient for mutual trade and investment between any two member countries....
Countries that are signing free trade deals with the U.S. are either getting financial support from Washington or want preferential treatment for their products in the U.S. markets, he said.
Qatar's primary export is liquefied natural gas, for which there is a hungry worldwide market.
Qatar...is home to the U.S. Central Command's forward operations in the Middle East, which played a central role in the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Makes you wonder what all these fast-track trade agreements are really about. Sounds almost like blackmail for smaller nations with major economic and security problems.

Thank you Lizzy for sharing some of the photos from the anti-war march that was really cool of you. Peace to you and to all. God bless
Thanks DKA, it was great. And just wait until Monday. The country is going to come to a stand still. There is going to be a human chain of people connecting the 5 boroughs of Manhattan on Monday.
They are trying to destroy the internet.
What are we going to do?
Awesome march Lizzy.

I was a little disappointed that when pressed he didn't mention a) Debbie Stabenow's $500 rebate plan......
Posted by KDJ on April 28, 2006 at 05:46 PM
I'm not a fan of either the $500 or the $100 rebate plan because they do nothing to help the problem. Them paying me to screw me just makes me a whore, am I right?
First, I would like to see the credits given the oil companies taken back. Am I the only one who was shocked when I heard how much tax credits these companies get and how no one has mentioned it before?
Second I would like to see the solar credit increased for residental. The credit is 30% but is maxed at $2,000. To wire my house will take more and with the cap, my credit would be more like 10% or less. Lets make the credit big enough that most reasonable people couldnt resist.
And for the longer term, I think there are several great alternatives to oil that we can use to lessen our addiction if we just quit looking for the silver bullet. And speaking of silver bullets, will Bush please just shut up about the hydrogen car. Its nowhere near ready for the real world. GM has been pushing these as their reason for not developing hybrids saying hybrids are just a temporary thing. Well guess what, Toyota and Honda came in and kicked GM butts by having Hybrids. I think we need to use several technologies including solar, wind, biodiesel, ethanol and liquid coal (forget what they call it. The main problem is not all these technologies are interchangable, at least on cars. What about converting power plants instead. It wouldnt solve the problem but it might help.
sounds good to me texas. it is intesting how much more wind generation there is in europe than here. whoosh, whoosh...great sound too.

Jen....I'm so relaxed that this chair and I have melded. I'm totally a bath freak, with baskets of stuff to scrub with and delicious scents.
Texas, I plug plug-in hybrids every chance that I get. It is estimated that the average driver would get 200 mpg. Also, I'd love to see solar panels on every roof feeding the grid. There would be no need for more power plants if that happened.
ROTFLMAO (Posted by TexasLane on April 29, 2006 at 11:08 PM) Good Quote...mind if I use it?
xdebx. go for it.
I think we need the power plants but mainly for their distribution capabilities. They become giant batteries for the power. we feed the system from the houses and can draw out the power out anywhere. (just a thought, probably a little crazy)
Do you know what the average cost of a residential system would be? I dont want to eliminatte my electric bill from day one, just a starter system I could add too later.
I'm studying up on it and would like to make an investment this year.

I'm in the process of obtaining info for a new, small "green" house. For only about 20% more initial cost I can get one of the new HVAC systems that buries pipe in the yard then uses heat pump technology to extract hot or cold from the water that is always at a constant or near constant temp. Heating/cooling/water heating costs for the cottage I am planning to build will be around $50. per month in an all electric home...amazing, huh?
I also intend to put on an entire solar panel roof...but I haven't priced it yet. In theory I will have no energy use, but I will have to pay the minimum as I will pull from the grid at night and feed the grid in the day so I will have to be connected.
Now all I will need is a plug-in hybrid car and I will be almost energy independent.
I live in NC,BTW and am not sure how the new geo-thermal HVAC systems do in colder climes.
Oh...duh...I guess you live in Texas

Should all of the nation's schools convert to geoexchange, the EPA has estimated that we could reduce oil imports by 61 million barrels annually, and provide the same environmental benefits as planting 8 million acres of trees or converting nearly 4 million cars to zero-emission vehicles.
not a bad start. The money saved could fund some of the no child left behind.

What are we going to do?
Good morning Dems. Question: Has anyone using AOL been able to access Air America Radio over the XM radio feature? Seems that most of the stations are available but NOT AAR. ??? Benefit of the doubt: am I not looking in the right place?
Why veterans and military should vote Democratic in 2006 and 2008, I never thought I would be saying those words myself. I am a military man, thru and thru, I joined the Army at age 18 in 1973, I served this nation from the Vietnam War era, served on the DMZ in South Korea, armed combat patrols, border incidents.I went to Germany and saw the Cold War up close and personal, the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, the feeling of impending doom from the Soviet Union. I left the Army in 1982 after helping establish this nation's desert warfare training center at NTC Fort Irwin.
I joined the National Guard and wrangled my way into a unit that was being activated for Desert Storm and went off to practice my profession, one last time, war. This is what an Infantry NCO trains for, to keep his troops alive thru combat, bring them home alive, write as few a letters home to greiving parents and wives as possible. I believed in General Patton's credo, "don't bleed for your country, make the other guy bleed for his" This is normally a republican thought process, not so fast, here is why military members and veterans and their families should vote anti-republican this election cycle, we have to we can't afford to vote against our families needs.
1. We can't financially afford to vote for Republicans, our families will suffer if we do
2. The federal government (Bush and friends) have empaneled a Veterans Disability Review Commission, the report is due out in February 2007, after the mid-term elections, are they that afraid of the recommendations? Some of the idea's being floated already are a complete review of PTSD, the awards, the percentages paid and if compensation is being paid at the appropriate level (usually means cuts are coming B) They are studying the idea of off setting your potential Social Security Disability payments against your Veterans Disability compensation payments (translation is if you are wounded in action or medically harmed on active duty, they want you to pay whatever your Social Security Disability Insurance payments, insurance for which you paid into with payroll payments, against your compensation from the VA for wounds you receive in combat or training, excuse me do republicans really think a service member is going to get rich off VA and SSD compensation? Compare it to the multi-million dollar settlements the same republicans gave to the victims families of the Twin Towers, does it even appear fair? Hell no. Let's be honest none of us joined the military to get well compensated for being blown up, shot or mentally destroyed, where and who is being asked to sacrifice, you and your family, again, why?
3. You were sent to war by men who say things like "you go to war with the Army you have, not the Army you want" excuse me, Afghanistan and the Taliban were a war that was necessary payback for 9/11, the move to Iraq was the Republicans agenda item, a want to, not a need to, all the pretenses for going have been destroyed by facts. You were sent to war on the basis that he had to go because Saddam "gassed his own people" by a group of men who are no better, they ordered the use of chemical weapons and illicit drugs on enlisted soldiers in 1974 and 1975 while members of the Ford White House,. Donald Rumsfeld was both the Chief of Staff and the Secretary of Defense, and Dick Cheney was his successor as Chief of Staff, both positions had the need to know and approve of the continuation of the "human experiments" that violated the Nuremberg Codes of 1947. Congress forced the tests to end in 1976. President Ford ordered the end to them, they did not stop them because they were wrong, they stopped when they got ratted out. http://www.nap.edu/...
4. These men used in the tests by the DOD and the CIA were found to be dead and disabled at a 75% rate in a March 2003 IOM report paid for by DOD, 2098 men dead and 2200 disabled http://www.iom.edu/... , since March 2003 the DOD and the VA have not found or addressed one soldiers or their widows claims for veterans benefits.
These are the republicans that keep telling you "A Promise Made Is A Promise Kept" ask the Edgewood Test vets about the "promise"....
5. Here is a manual wrote by the VA in October 2003 that shows the extent of the tests and the known medical problems on pages 13 and 14, pages 33 and 38 show there are no known tests to determine exposures, months later let alone 3-5 deacdes later. Yet on April 3 2006 http://www.vawatchdog.org/... a VA spokesman said when and if any of these veterans were hurt in the tests they needed to be examined and tested to see if they were exposed, WTF, a contadiction in known facts, the manual says there are no tests. What and how are they going to treat your exposures to DU from the new battlefields of the Middle East. How come almost 70% of Desert Storm veterans are drawing VA compensation, yet the VA and DOD say there are no known medical problems from the First Gulf War. Credibility sucks, and your families future is riding on these people's policies.
6. Caring for Veterans on the cheap http://www.tomdispatch.com/... shows that in the past 14 months that the government has treated 144,424 service members or their family members for wounds or mental issues related to deployments, over 200,000 anti-anxiety or anti-depressants have been filled, some by soldiers being sent back to combat, Prozac warriors, makes you question life in service.
7. The current administrations policies have led to lowered recruiting standards to fill the ranks, yes the service has a lot, a tremendous amount of willing committed patriots, but standing next to these fine men and women are some people who in better times would not be there with you. They are now approving plans to recall retirees back to active duty, in a national emergency, they have always had that authority, but with the new rules, they can activate the critics of the current policies and then under the UCMJ prosecute you for further statements, go ahead speak your mind then, you might find your retirement pay reduced after your last tour of duty, the thanks from a "grateful nation", remember back on active duty, you no longer have "free speech" insubordination is a real charge and has severe financial consequences, again affecting your family.
8. Bottom line voting republican is now harmful to your health, financial security, and the happiness of your family. Can you really afford to vote republican again? I encourage you and your family members to talk to their relatives and explain this or hand them a copy of this, and ask them to vote their heart and their conscience, anyone but a republican gets my vote in the next election cycle, my family is depending on it......a disabled vet
9. Bottom line is you just can't afford to vote republican, your wallet can't stand it
