Terror type attacks have risen in popularity since 2001. Luckily they have not impacted us directly here in the United States; but around the world, in places where Americans venture, they have. The fact that American interests overseas are now more often the target of terror attack clearly shows that the intentions of the War on Terror are not being realized and that strategies must be adjusted.
I'm sorry to shatter your tranquil mood, but I'm agitated, and need to sound off. I have been a staunch, progressive liberal since I first voted Democrat in 1992, and have voted Democrat ever since. Like most Americans, I was shocked and devastated in 2004 when Bush once more eluded defeat. Because of this, my next statement should astound you: Democrats are a long way from earning my vote this time around.
You Democrats seem to be running on the ticket that we must vote for you because you are not Republican. You seem to think your victory is assured because of Bush's bungling. Oh, Republicans have bungled, all right, but that is not why they should be removed. Make no mistake, Bush and his cohorts have had resounding success at everything they have set out to do, and that's because what they set out to do was never to govern us. They should be replaced because they are evil: their true agenda has been to completely raid the treasury and hand over its contents to their patrons, and at that they have had resounding success. They've hidden their true agenda behind a cloak of propaganda, a public relations war of lies, deceit, fear and smear. You will not earn my vote simply because Bush has done so badly. You will earn my vote when I have assurance that you understand who the enemy really is.
The first rules of engagement are, Know Thine Enemy. In this engagement, Bush and the Republicans are not the enemy, they are simply the manifestation of the notion that government is the shadow cast by Big Business over society. It turns out that these Republicans are just handmaidens of the wealthy and powerful--the crass might even say they are their whores. They have been very good at the job they were given--to completely raid the treasury and hand over its contents to their patrons. For this astounding success, individual Republicans have been rewarded handsomely. Before I vote you into this position, I need you to demonstrate that you are not vying to be next in line for that same reward (i.e., their next bitch).
Noam Chomsky has said there exists two superpowers--Big Business, i.e., the wealthy, and the the masses. I say, the difference between these two is that Big Business knows it is a superpower and acts upon it every second of every day, while the people seem indifferent to their power, and seldom act on it at all. It is, of course, by the design of their enemy, the other superpower, that people believe they are powerless.
The wealthy have run the show unchallenged since the dawn of time, except for a few populist uprisings. Our own fledgling democracy was one of these--for the first time in recorded history, we, the people, got the idea that we actually had a voice in our own government, that our government was of the people, by the people and for the people.
200 plus years later, with Republicans in complete power, this administration has made it loud and clear that we have no voice at all. Government is once more simply the means by which Big Business exploits their old enemy, the other superpower, the masses, us.
To get my vote, I need to know that you are willing to stand up to Big Business on my behalf. You need to be willing to do three things:
1. Know that thine enemy is Big Business. George Bush will not run again, but Big Business will still be firmly in position to call all the shots. It is far easier for Big Business to call the shots when Republicans are in office, as we have seen, but it won't be enough for Democrats to roust Republicans. You have to understand who the real enemy is and be willing to take them down.
2. Take a stand against Big Business. Governments all over the world, especially our own, allow Big Business to coerce them into passing laws that exploit their citizens. The real problem of illegal aliens in this country is that the governments of Latin American countries, at the behest of North Amreican Big Business, do not provide a decent living for their citizens, nor will our own government crack down on the businesses who hire illegals at substandard wages. This is designed to depress our own wages, of course. The place to break this downward cycle is at its source: pressure Latin countries to provide for their citizens, and stop Big Business from hiring illegals.
3. Pledge to work on behalf of the second superpower, the people. Give us nationalized health care; strengthen Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid; secure our pensions and worker benefits; encourage rebuilding U.S. industry for better jobs; revisit previous antitrust and environmental protections removed during this administration. Most importantly, give up any secret dreams of enriching yourself personally by bedding down with Big Busienss. It will be tough to stand up to them, they are very powerful. The irony is, if we are strengthened, as we were during the Clinton years, Big Business also benefits. We, the people are just now awakening to our own power. You can be part of this rebirth, or be swept away by it, yourself.
It's not just any Saturday but it's also April Fools day and plus we set the clocks ahead one hour so Happy April Fools Day to all you practical jokers out there.

Hey fellow dems,
Just got back from two weeks in Belize, from the rain forests of Western Belize to the barrier reef islands of the north. Here is some info I took away: Castro is loved, Bush is hated, and many know of the American democrats fight...their equivalent has just struck a major blow to the corrupt 'conservative' party in Belize City. Coming back to the states, I saw the cover of Time magazine, read dailykos.com, and checked the poll numbers. Barring any more diebold corruption, we will hopefully regain some momentum. Those grouches who are fickle enough to complain about how weak democrats seem to be, I hope you don't forget how it feels to be a minority so as to work hard to make sure we are never a minority again.
Maya Priests “Cleanse” Cancun of Bush Evils
Cancun, Mexico, Mar 31 (Prensa Latina) - People in Cancun, where tight security has been in force for the last two days, are breathing a clearer air Friday, after five Maya priests cleansed the city of “evils in US President George W Bush.”

Let me amplify this with an example: the passing of the moral bankruptcy bill with the help of those like Joe Biden (D-MBNA). Like his Republican comrades in sleaze, he should be the target of a wholesale housecleaning of Washington, D.C., followed up with wholesale indictments for the sale of favors. His crime is particularly egregious and treasonous in light of Jefferson's perception of the banking industry.
They are incredible videos. Very moving.
Walking in New Orleans and Keep on Rockin in the Free World
Jen, we need to get these Maya priests to the Capitol as soon as possible. There needs to be some major cleansing done in that building.

I hear what you are saying and we'll work on it. Whatever you do, don't vote third party. I did it for years and look where it got us.
Wesley Clark was on the mark today in the radio address. He continues to impress. I know it was a scripted speech, but he talks news-speak well in most interviews. People listen and understand him instantly. No long-winded explanations just hard hitting statements of facts. Good for him.
I did it for years and look where it got us.

I'm shocked!
Oh, yes I did, Butters. From McCarthy on to local candidates. I thought you should vote for the best person. The founding fathers thought so, too. We were all wrong. Politics doesn't work that way. You have to stand with others that believe in the same things you do. It took me close to 30 years, but I finally got it right.
Six on Jefferson staff subpoenaed
Congressman is accused of demanding bribes
WASHINGTON -- Six members of New Orleans Rep. William Jefferson's staff have been subpoenaed to testify before a Virginia grand jury investigating two African telecommunications deals in which the congressman is accused by a former aide of demanding bribes.

Geez, now the Democrats are trying to get in on the culture of corruption.
diana, thanks for the neil young video. It reminds me that that there are no winners only victims in a war.
I think there is more fraud in the telecommunications field than construction. And that's saying a lot.
greetings Dems, and a shout out to sixties rad..your elements of style are delightful...nice to read

Thanx for the cleansing story, Jen.
Chris, good to have you back. Interesting to see how we're viewed by our neighbors, isn't it? Thanx for sharing that. Hope to see you in the morning, again.

I'm in a very rotten mood today. Tonight, for the first time ever, we have to run around the house, cars and everthing else that has a clock and change to eastern time. Thanks you lousy moron Mitch One Term Daniels - you snake asswipe jerk. 60% of Hoosiers didn't want it but you and your creepy party rammed it down our throats.
Actually, I would like to extend an invitation to Daniels to personnaly come to my house at 3:30 tomorrow morning and change my clocks for me..and hopefully the door won't kick him in his ass when he leaves. Too bad he isn't running this time around, because I'd love to see that bum go down in flames..the jerk.
Other then that, hope everyones day is doing well.
Anything happening in George Whimpland today? Cheney shoot anyone? Has Rice gotten her teeth fixed yet? Is DeLay in jail yet?

His is one Congrssional seat the Dems are destined to lose in November. That's because most of the Democrats moved out of town.

I just got off the phone with the union coordinator on the Z TEAM. I love networking. The best part about our team is that it's 90% volunteer efforts. Work it, baby.
I have to read 2 chapters and and answer a dozen questions for Public Speaking class as well as think about some topics I would like to present...I wonder if this campaign would be a good one to discuss?
I also want to thank Monica R for suggesting that I purchase (over a year ago), "A Testament of Hope", the essential writings & speeches of Martin Luther King. He is going to be the main topic of this course. It will be very useful.
So many of you all here have been an inspirtation to me. Thanks.

Bolten plans overhaul to widen Bush's circle, tighten west wing operations.
The White House is planning additional staff changes that could come as early as next week as part of a broader effort to repair relations with Congress and revive the Bush presidency, according to several Republicans familiar with the emerging strategy.
Joshua B. Bolten, who takes over April 15 as White House chief of staff, is developing a proposal to overhaul West Wing operations with the twin aims of bringing more voices into the policymaking process and avoiding staff breakdowns such as the slow response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
good to see you too fade,
I've been back for a day and already want to turn right around and relax in Belize...but I've got too much to do here in America! Fight, fight, fight. Today I saw a bunch of Southern Baptists cleaning the side of the road when I was jogging... I shouldn't have...but I asked a cute elderly couple if they were atoning for their support of bush.
Well, I see the Republican trolls are back trying to claim they're Democrats while spreading the Republican talking points that "the Democrats don't stand for anything". Nice try guys. The Democrats have a two hundred year history of standing for the common working man every chance they get, and I sure wouldn't call that "nothing". You're hero Flush Limpballs might, but I know I wouldn't.
Right Wing talk show hosts say "they're" responsible, unlike those "crazies" on the left. Here's some examples of their "responsibility".
Boortz: I saw Cynthia McKinney's hairdo yesterday -- saw it on TV. I don't blame that cop for stopping her. It looked like a welfare drag queen was trying to sneak into the Longworth House Office Building. That hairdo is ghetto trash. I don't blame them for stopping her...
Michael Savage wants people to burn the Mexiacan flag.
Glenn Beck called hurricane survivors in New Orleans "scumbags," said he "hates" 9-11 families.
Hi, Chris.
I was cleaning up the side of the road this morning, too. The winds were really blowing yesterday and trash was flying everywhere. What a throw-away society we've become. Most of the stuff I picked up could be recycled.
I bet those Southern Baptists could be recycled, too. Most are nice people but they listen to a lot of nutcase preachers with mental problems and hollow hearts. I don't think these folks like the way the poor and sick have been treated in the last five years. Nobody likes the way Katrina was handled. The fact that they were cleaning up the side of the highway is a testament to their views on the environment.
Yes, we all have a lot in common. I haven't given up on them. Next time, be nice. Just smile and wave while you point to your Kerry/Edwards shirt as you jog by. I think they already have gotten the message.
The regressives called Miss Lucille Ball a communist.
The regressives called John Murtha a coward.

I THOUGHT THE REGRESSIVE RIGHT WANTED SOME GOOD NEWS OUT OF IRAQ. LIARS!
Americans, democrat and republican, see through the smokescreen that is meant to protect a few criminal business owners and the criminals they employ. For too long these individuals have benefitted from relaxed border security and shall now be held to account. Make no mistake about it, these people knowingly violated the law.
We have been stuck providing social services for the families of these individuals who chose to violate our laws in coming here and their criminal employers have benefitted from not having to pay for those benefits. This is what we call organized crime and it has been allowed to run rampant. Now is time for our law abiding citizens to stand up and demand an end to this criminal activity and an end to the lies that are told in its defense.
You know how "since day one!" we've had Republican sympathizers in here demanding, even ordering, that no mention of a Republican' family members wrong doing ever be mentioned? Well this is how Republicans think in regards to "leaving family members out of it".
Do the Bush Family Pols Play Dirty?
“At the Republican convention in Houston, they spent two days attacking Hillary. . . . I expect them to come after Mother and Chelsea, but they must be saving that for later.” --Bill Clinton, 9/6/92
In early March, Senator John Kerry made perhaps the most surprising comment any presidential candidate has made this year—a blunt warning that the Bush machine “will attack my character and even my wife’s.” His remark did not receive the kind of coverage we would probably be seeing if, for example, George W. Bush had warned of a Democratic smear campaign against his wife Laura. In fact, it appears to have slipped by virtually unnoticed.
A look back at previous Bush family presidential campaigns—in 1988, 1992, and 2000—reveals a disturbing pattern of personal attacks on the families of their opponents, a variation on the larger theme of character assassination that also has included impugning the patriotism of opponents (Dukakis, Clinton, McCain, and Kerry) and questioning their mental health (Dukakis, McCain, Gore, and Dean). Perhaps at this point, in the middle of the fourth Bush presidential campaign, the increasingly docile media simply accepts this strategy as business as usual.
The smearing of Teresa Kerry by Bush surrogates was already under way as Kerry spoke, and has only increased in frequency and vitriol. Radio-show host Rush Limbaugh, who was praised by Bush as “a national treasure” when his drug habit got him in trouble with the law last year, has mocked Mrs. Kerry’s personal appearance and refers to the Kerrys as “Mrs. John Heinz and John F-ing Kerry” on his website. Fellow radio conservative and best-selling author Michael Savage, who has hosted Dick Cheney on his show, has spent hours fixated on the “wife who looks like a deranged lunatic,” describing Teresa Kerry as “sinister” and “spooky” because of her accent. “This is America—foreign accents don’t sell,” declared Savage, who also called the Kerry daughters “losers” and Elizabeth Edwards “a disaster” and “a deficit to the campaign.”

[IMMIGRATION]
Anyone focusing on "criminals" rather than
Mexican wages will get ignored.
Not just "Mexican wages", but American wages as well. Raise the minimum wage in this country to fifteen dollars an hour and U.S. companies won't get any "advantage" from hiring "illigals" to replace "legals".

Will, you know, I don't like their policies. And I do make fun of Republican politicans who do stupid things. But I don't wish anybody any harm. I think that is the major difference between us. They really hate those that stand in their way. I only want them to step aside, because they have failed so miserably.
All those young kids in the streets waving Mexican flags this past week didn't realize that they were doing the same thing as waving a red flag in front of a bull ... a bunch of bull-headed Republicans. It just makes them meaner.
While the young might not exercise the best of judgment sometimes, you do have to admire their courage. The media thought there was no one left in this country willing to take their cause to the streets. So did the Republicans.
These Latino kids (second-generation citizens) have tasted freedom as Bush likes to say. Their suburban Anglo counterparts and Katrina re-awakened Black peers admire what they witnessed. Many of them will be voting and participating in their first political campaigns this fall...like my youngest. I intend to make sure as many as possible know about their local Democratic organizations, are registered, and know how to insure their vote is counted.
Much like the Republicans, I've been quietly working alongside other progressive soccer Moms on a character-building project since I started volunteering back in the late 1980's in integrated schools, scouting, church, etc. It's been a 20-year work of love and hope...and it's about to reap what was sowed.
Unlike the current crop of Gen X and Yers who keep their heads down and toil diligently in their cubicles not making waves, this generation cares...deeply. And they aren't afraid to show it. We saw to it.
So the time has come to pass the torch to a generation worthy of having it. My job is almost done. It's not easy changing the world, but someone has to do it. And it's usually somebody's Mom who had the most influence.
I am satisfied. I accomplished what I set out to do. We fooled all the trolls. They never once suspected.
"And now, the regressives are calling Jill Carroll

It's a good day to be a Democrat! I just returned from my district DFL convention and was elected as a delegate to our DFL Congressional Convention and State Convention. I am so jazzed! I can't wait for the campaigns to get in full swing. I will be pounding the pavement, knocking on doors convincing my really RED district to vote for Democrats! For the first time in many years I really feel that 'the times they are a changin'!

Howdy, Dems!
Hi Sandy,
You're so correct about the young people. My former students and current cohorts in my ceramics class are active and open-minded. We have hope in our future, and these kids deserve more than the credit card bills for a senseless war, failed policies and fat pigs at the trough. Chris inspired me, when he talked about our friends to the south. We must begin to create policies that protect people instead of corporations.
It's already begun...thanx for all that you do.
way to go, lavendrblue! congratulations!
it's great to hear you jazzed...you're going to love it! i've been a delegate, and it's fun

In reality most new illegals are being used to replace other illegals. Just jump in your truck, drive to your local Home Depot, and watch the bid to bottom struggle between the old and new illegals.
Marine - You'd better be careful here. This board is dominated by the far left (they probably oppose owning guns also) who can't seem to respect that their is a difference between legal and illegal immigration.
While I cherish these find individuals, especially Peppermint, DPD, Jen, and PamB who all want to have my baby, for their commitment to participation in our nationalist democracy. I can’t help but to wonder just how strong is their commitment to nationalism.
So what I'm picking up about the Right Wing on this Jill Carroll thing is that they're mad because she's not "foaming at the mouth" against the Iraqis like they do. Staying cool is what kept her alive, and I'm sure they're mad about that too. They can't "demonize muslims" as good if she doesn't get killed and that must really let them down.
Back on that baby fantasy, I see.
It STILL doesn't make any sense.

.............avoided the mexican wage problem again. IGNORED!
Thursday's final 4th quarter 2005 GDP report came in showing a 1.7% annualized growth rate for the quarter. Though this decline is concerning, the actual breakdown of contributions is even more concerning. The total increase in GDP during the 4th quarter was only $46 billion in chained 2000 dollars. (i.e., it was adjusted for inflation using the government-controlled BEA's own secret formula.)
Normally, consumer spending is 2/3rds of economic activity. As such, consumer spending should also be 2/3rds of any growth in GDP. This was not the case in the 4th quarter, however. In fact, personal consumption expenditures accounted for only $17.5 billion of that growth, or only 38%. The biggest contribution came from capital investment (overinvestment?) The total gross private domestic investment was $72.5 billion, or over 4 times as much as consumer spending. Of this investment, $51.2 billion is accounted for as increase in private inventories. In other words, $51.2 billion of the contribution to that $46 billion came from unsold goods (surplus.) With a GDP growth as low as it was, and an increase in unsold goods greater than the GDP increase, there are no signs that this is an economy that is "strong, and getting stronger." Producing 4 times more goods than Americans can purchase is a recipe for disaster. Since American consumers account for 80-90% of the purchase of American goods, this is especially concerning.
To complete the picture, the subtractions from the total GDP should be mentioned. Our 4th quarter trade balance was -$37.7 billion. Government spending declined $4-6 billion. (I'm giving a range, since the published numbers don't add up perfectly.)
Below is a link to a modified copy of a chart showing this information from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis:
GDP
The above chart can be found in its entire (unreadable) form at: BEA-GDP
Our economy is in MAJOR trouble if we continue to prop up our GDP with unsold inventories and overinvestment, instead of consumer spending. Our economy cannot continue to devote only a 38% fraction of GDP to consumer spending. Unsold inventories are worth nothing if they aren't sold. This is not a sustainable course.

The economy needs balance between the "means of production" & "means of consumption."
People respect law and order everywhere. Even the nations from which these criminals have arrived punish those who violate their laws, in most cases more harshly than we do here in the United States. This is something we will not get around, a crime is a crime.
Some of us will attempt to look away from those committing these crimes, but they can never honestly say that they did not know it was happening. To me, law and order is synonimous with democracy and any democracy that chooses to sacrifice law and order will not remain a democracy for long.

thanx for stopping by with this excellent information. there are quite a few Krugman fans here, and i'm afraid his predictions are coming true. it's nice to have your thoughtful, factual post on the KA blog...welcome
The law! The law! So spit it out "Marine", what do you really want? To start locking 'em up and throwing away the key?
Hey pey-wee, President Bush supports what you are supporting here.
King George is trying to get rid of NAFTA? King George is threatening sanctions against Mexico? King George wants a Mexican and an American living wage?
This is news to me.
Domingo
How about locking up the people who hire ilegal immigrants. You're being two-faced not to admit that what we have here is a migration where the loyality still remains with Mexico.
Read what I wrote again Domingo, both are in violation of the law and should be held accountable.
You're being evasive "Marine". How do we hold them "accountable"?
That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. The loyality does not still remain with Mexico. They high tailed it out that place as fast as they could didn't they? If the loyality still remained with Mexico they would have stayed in Mexico. They couldn't wait to get out of there, that's how "loyal" to it they are.
The penalties are defined by laws currently on the books. Look them up if you want to know.
Nah, the stupidest thing I've ever heard is that I want to "have loogie's baby". The rest is gravy.
Look them up if you want to know. Posted by Marine
Why can't you just tell me? Or is it because YOU don't know?
It is your responsibility to inform yourself Domingo, it is not mine.
DOMINGO
Leave it alone. Since they continue to ignore the Mexicsn wage problem, you should just ignore them.
See, here's what I think "Marine", you don't "really" want to get rid of them, you just want to "hold them down" farther so you can get them even cheaper. Take their rights away, but keep them here, don't allow them to drive, etc., then you'll be able to make them so desperate they'll work for even less. Right "Marine"? Ain't that what you REALLY want?
Lavendar,
I know you probably told us but which great state has you as a delegate? Minnesota? Congrats to you! You are going to be fine.
*waving to ALL*
Domingo
Whose flag are the majority of demonstrators carrying. If there is so much injustice in Mexico why do they cut and run to the US and leave their families behind.
That's not the Che Guevara way. Maybe Mexican men should get some spine and fight instead of running.
You don't know much Domingo. You make assumptions well, that's for sure. The fact is that I've served with many recent immigrants and am myself a child of immigration, as are we all. The difference here is that these individuals knowingly violated the laws of the society in which they wish to live, and that includes those who benefit from criminal immigrants. Law abiding people simply do not wish to allow criminals to get away with their crimes. This is no acception.
Low wages? For people who do not have the right to legally earn a dime on U.S. soil? How do you decide what is a low wage in that instance? Now do you see why I simply choose to deal with the question of legality? Clearly a crime has been committed, none here question that.
Just a day in the life of the young illegal immigrant in San Diego
He lay his blanket underneath the freeway
As the evening sky grew dark
Took a sniff of toncho from his coke can
And headed through Balboa Park
Where the men in their Mercedes
Come nightly to employ
In the cool San Diego evening
The services of the border boys
He grew up near the Zona Norte
With the hustlers and smugglers he hung out with
He swallowed their balloons of cocaine
Brought 'em across the Twelfth Street strip
Sleeping in a shelter
If the night got too cold
Runnin' from the migra
Of the border patrol
Past the salvage yard 'cross the train tracks
and in through the storm drain
they stretched their blankets out 'neath the freeway
and each one took a name
there was X-man and Cochise
Little Spider his sneakers covered in river mud
they come north to California
end up with the poison in their blood
He did what he had to do for the money
sometimes he sent home what he could spare
the rest went to high-top sneakers and toncho
and jeans like the gavachos wear
Bruce Springsteen

Your heart is so full of hate. You must have a troubled life.
This needs no words from me other than "Semper Fidelis" my Brother
Low wage is debatable? No wonder King George, El señor Fox, and all the other regressives can sell their countries to the highest bidder (or in this case the lowest bidder).
Nah, the stupidest thing I've ever heard is that I want to "have loogie's baby". The rest is gravy.

Hey {{DPD}}}, don't do it! :))
Bad enough we have bruno, spewing hatred, bigotry, intolerance, and xenophobia, without his seed doing the same!! YUK !
Marine, why are the mexican people getting blamed and hated. True, they are breaking the law, risking their lives to get here, but if there were not Bush's Corporate buddies hiring them at slave wages, do you think they would continue to pour across? And as far as any social services they may end up getting, THAT is not why they come across. They WANT to work. They are not afraid of work, no matter how lowly, how poorly paid, how hard.
Anybody watch the show circulating the networks, about the 2 Mexicans who came here illegally, and climb into dumpsters at 2:00 in the morning, and get cans and other stuff and put their 3 kids thru college doing it? This is the hope of these people who would NEVER, EVER be able to have done that if they stayed in Mexico.
It is the lack of empathy, and tolerance that most people find disgraceful from Americans.
William F. Buckley Jr., the longtime conservative writer and leader, said George W. Bush's presidency will be judged entirely by the outcome of a war in Iraq that is now a failure.
"Mr. Bush is in the hands of a fortune that will be unremitting on the point of Iraq," Buckley said in an interview that will air on Bloomberg Television this weekend. "If he'd invented the Bill of Rights it wouldn't get him out of his jam."
Who said anything about the Mexican people Pam? Sure some violating our immigration laws are Mexican but I'm not going to single them out. Anyone who violates our immigration laws, from any country including our own, is a criminal.
Racists seem to think that illegal workers - the hardest-working, poorest people in the US - are getting away with something.
Numero Two-o, should you actually want to stop Mexicans and OTMs (other than Mexicans) from coming to the United States, here is how to do it: Find an illegal worker at a large corporation. This is not difficult - brooms and mops are big tip-offs. Then put the CEO of that corporation in prison for two or more years for violating the law against hiring illegal workers.
Oh and Pam, I respect the work ethic often displayed but it does not erase the crime.
I'm right there with you Pam, all violators of that law should be held accountable. I'm not looking the other way.
This needs no words

Thanks Fade, Butters, and Lizzy!
You all have been an inspiration! Out of 5 wanting 2 delegate postions I received the most votes! Wow, and my first time at this. I guess my 'speech' was good enough. There is much at stake here as well as for the country. I will be busy just trying to keep up! Yes Minnesota is my State and we have the Governorship, Senate and House seats so it should prove to be an interesting 6 months.
Bring it on!!!
congrats Lav,
I wanted to be a delegate for Ned Lamont, but by the time I found out Where I should pose the request, (my town committee), it was too late !
Will you share what you said? If you don't want to, that's ok.

Bad enough we have bruno, spewing hatred, bigotry, intolerance, and xenophobia
Cruel words but wrong and misleading.
Let me ask you some of what I asked Ranger.
There are an additional 3.5 -5 billion starving people in the world from India to Africa to China to the middle-east. Do you support opening our borders to all of them?
Since the Sunni’s are being cut out of the oil revenues in Iraq and will soon be poorer than they are now do you support opening our border to them?
Is it your contention that if any poor person can sneak into America they should be allowed to stay?
I realize my opinion has vreated a sore spot with you but it is not racist. Even though we disagree on the meaning of illegal v. legal I still love you.

I live in my jammies at home as well! First thing I do when I get home from work is put on my sweats and tee.
Anyway, being a lesbian and all and wearing my pin that says "Gay Rights are Human Right" most all thought my main topic would be about the anti-gay marriage amendment that our state legislature is trying to put on the November ballot. But I think I surprised them when I said that yes it is an issue for me, it shouldn't be an issue at all, however it is not the main reason I want to be a delegate. I told them I was here because we need to fix the balance of power in our government, not only at the federal level but here at home. I said we need only 15 seats in Congress, gain seats in the Senate and the replacement of our Governor to finally be heard to finally put a stop to the Bush agenda. You should have seen there heads bobbing up and down, I was so surprised and excited. I didn't really think I had a chance, this being my first go 'round.
Hello, Butters! You certainly deserve a frosty Rita mug, if anyone does. Can't believe you are on "down" time!
Honky tonk - wow, wish I could go with you.
bruno, I usually brush you off like an annoying gnat, but I will respond one last time to you.
This problem is WAY, WAY, beyond any kind of reasonable, simplified fix ! Right now with anywhere from 12,000,000 to 20,000,000 of them scattered all over the USA (yes, some even up here in CT), to think anyone could ever round up what we have is ridiculous. So might as well accept what we have here. Guest Worker passes, for those that pay $1000 and learn English????? Get real. How many of them are going to line up for that one??? Legal vs illegal? At this point does it matter anymore?
So it is in our best interest to take our efforts and money, and secure those borders (north and south) once and for all! Anderson Cooper the other night had a good segment on that, saying it is not far fetched to think it can be done.
Your posts reek of racism! "all those waving Mexican flags" ! So if I want to call a spade a spade, and tell you that you are a Racist, well, if the shoe fits, bud!

PamB and everyone else,
Pay no more attention to Bruno. Last night he posted a link to a Neo Nazi organization to support his argument on immigration. No need to discuss anything with Neo Nazis.
PamBaby
First, I don’t recall suggesting we lock up 11-20 million illegal immigrants. I suggested we lock up the people who hire them. And if you have gnats try soap and water.
I would be willing to support a program in Texas where in lieu of incarceration we provide bus tickets and meal passes for relocation to CT. I guess people up east aren’t taking advantage of the many exploitation opportunites available. In addition, it would give you the opportunity for hands on assistance by forming your own welcome wagon.
Second, the Iraq war casualties link has nothing to do with illegal immigration. I just think that it is important for us to read the names everyday of those killed or wounded in this war. They are not just Soldiers or Marines, they are fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I don’t see anything wrong with making sure we remember them everyday.

Ranger - Yo are so two-faced. Why don't you read my follow-up post where I apologized. And why don't you turn your brilliant mind to answers the questions I posed. Here they are again. In fact here is the post in its entirety.
Ranger
You’re talking out your a**. My family has owned a ranch just outside of Rock Springs for over 50 years. I’ve crossed the border at Del Rio into Ciudad Acuna, Mexico at least a hundred times. We have several Mexicans who work on our ranch and they are good people. We pay a living wage, deduct taxes, and provide them with total health coverage. Every single one is a US citizen. So don’t call me a racist because I see a difference between illegal and legal immigration.
In addition, I’ve crossed McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge into Reynosa many times; I have crossed from Brownville into Matamoros and from El Paso into Juarez.
I spent untold hours on the Reynosa to Matamoros highway, the Reynosa to Nuevo Laredo highway, the Reynosa to Monterrey highway, and the Reynosa to Ciudad Victoria highway.
I should have used a different link even though that one was the clearest I found on the definition of reconquista. My point was to emphasize that reconquista is alive and actively being promoted by the Mexican government.
Now let me ask you a few short questions. (1) Where you fighting in Iraq War to protect the American way of life? (2) There are an additional 3.5 -5 billion starving people in the world from India to Africa to China to the middle-east. (3) Do you support opening our borders to them? (4) Since the Sunni’s are being cut out of the oil revenues in Iraq do you support opening our border to them? (5) Is it your contention that if any poor person can sneak into America they should be allowed to stay here.
I apologize for not realizing that was the type of link you described. I'll check back later for your reply.

On Mexico,
Anyone who knows the history and prehistory of Mexico knows that the culture is seductive. I love Mexico, and I spend a lot of time there. Althought the cities are quite similar to ours, the ejidos and small towns are really romantic. No TV, no video games, just the town squares where everyone spend the nights together--a community. Most Mexicans live in mud brick houses with dirt floors. Yet in these poor villages, families are tight, people are friendly, and there is little crime.
People who know Mexico by the border towns and resort places such as Cancun and Cabo San Lucas, know nothing about Mexico.
Although it does not seem like it, Mexico's politicians are even more corrupt and corporate owned than ours. Large corporations own all of the resources, and thus, there is an ultra rich class who have everything, while everyone else doesn't even have running water.
Mexico has so much potential.
Why don't we start fixing immigration by rewriting the NAFTA agreement to force better conditions for workers in Mexico. Then, those people working for $4/day in the Maquiladoras in Juarez can earn a decent living, Maybe then, they wouldn't want to come to America. Why can't we start pressing Mexico and the rest of Latin America to give up their slave labor shops. Why don't we penalize Walmart for encouraging slave labor across the world? If you want to stop desperate people from taking desperate action to get into the US, then relieve them of their desperations.
However, we are too greedy. We want our wide screen TVs and our SUVs, and we want them for less.
In that case, get used to illegal aliens. No walls or laws are going to stop people who have nothing to lose.
So we will start filling prisons with these poor people. Already KBR has been contracted to build temporary prisons across the US to prepare for the "upcoming immigration problem" Don't believe me? Check out their website.
We should be ashamed of ourselves. America is supposed to help the poor and needy. We are supposed to defend those who can't help themselves. Instead we protect our own business interests and we imprison the poor and the needy.
Bush twins to join Air Force tech unit in Iraq
First daughters Jenna and Barbara Bush will be assigned to a high-tech unit in Iraq, the Air Force Human Resources Command has confirmed. Having finished basic training at the Officer Training School (OTS) at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, they are scheduled to receive advanced training in telecommunications at the School of Information Technology before deployment overseas with the USAF Information Operations Squadron. For security reasons, the exact dates have been withheld.
The girls' surprise enlistment was kept secret until they successfully completed their basic training. During an invitation-only press conference while on leave between OTS and their school assignment - conducted, symbolically, at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware where America's war dead are brought - the twins described their motives and rationale.

That's going to be a new and unfortunate experience for many Indiana residents. Last year, we did not have any daylight savings time. Still, we had the same number of hours between sunrise and sunset as the other zones. Doesn't compute.

Well for anyone else interested....Digby hits it right on with his post Bubble Boy:
One of the most curious things I've seen recently is George Bush's favorite Democrat going a little bit kooky for no apparent reason. What the hell is up with Joementum? Why so emotional and weird about this?
I have to think that he's suffering from the same bubble boy disease as his best buddy. In the beltway, Joe Lieberman is the most popular Democrat in town. The political establishment is totally dominated by Republicans and Republicans positively love him. As far as he can tell, he's the most popular guy in town.
i'm not kidding, i swear i was gonna turn you-know-what.
You weren't going to do this?
You are an outright coward to call me a Nazi.. My father was in the 112th Cav and was severly wounded fighting the Nazi scum. I am a veteran of Vietnam and I desire better than that coming from someone who claims to be a vet.
When you first came to this board with your flaming anger nearly everyone who sides with you now attacked everything you said. Now it appears that you capitualted to them like the Iraq soldiers surrendering to newmen in Dessert Storm.
In addition, you ran screaming “help me, help me” from the questions I submitted. So look in the mirror and ask yourself if you believe in America as a nationalist democracy or a wasteland of far left ideology that crys everytime someone disagrees?
Mr. Bruno H. O’kalugie
lizzy: my kitties are ferocious. they already said no more visits to the vet. now they won't let me trim their claws. good thing we don't have heirloom furniture. or a waterbed.
Remember in the early 70's when Nixon declared a wage-"price" freeze (actually, only wages were frozen)? How about we declare a price freeze and also freeze executive salaries? That's the only way to catch up to where we were back then
(in pre-Reagan days).
OK Bruno,
1. You supported a ring wing argument by posting a link to a Neo Nazi organization's website.
Maybe you are not a nazi, but it seems really strange that the only support for your argument came from such a place. The reqonquista is about as real as the Holocaust was false.
2. Only one person attacked me when I first came on, and I still don't like or side with FTM. I am as angry as I ever was.
3. I am sorry that you think you deserve more, but one is not a good person just because one is a veteran. I respect the fact that you served, but it does not make you any better than anyone else. I am a veteran too, and I am proud of my service, but it does not make me any smarter or more moral than anyone else.
4. I will answer one of your questions: I did not serve in the military to preserve the "american way of life" as you say. To tell you the truth, I don't even know what that means, and it sounds like something a right wing uses to instill fear in their sheep. "These Mexicans want to ruin the American way of life"
Actually, I joined the Marines because I thought, very naively, that I would be protecting people who could not protect themselves--as our relatives did in WWII. When I realized we don't give a shit about poor people, and that we were only protecting American interests around the world, I stayed because of my fellow troops. I really liked being an NCO and mentoring young soldiers/marines. I am not in the military any more.
5. The second thing you post was not even a question, but a statement. It is true there are lots of poor people from India, but they are not our neighbors, and it is easier for a person to immigrate here from India than Mexico. I think that if we also support fair wages in places like India, we won't have to worry about people flocking out of it.
I never knew America was a "nationalist democracy" sounds like something Stalin would say. You know, republicans are really sounding a lot like communists, they have even chosen red as their color. A wing nut recently even named his site red America. Now they allow the government to spy on us. Interesting thing this "nationalist democracy" is sound to me like a wasteland of far left ideology.
Speaking of Reagan, was I better off than I was "4 years ago"? Yes, but only because I was a grad student "4 years ago." By the time you fucked things up, grad students couldn't even live on their stipends any more.

Posted by ranger995 on April 1, 2006 at 09:55 PM
Actually, the "best" (worst) example of a nationalist society was Nazi Germany. The word "Nazi" is short for Nationalsozialistische Partei, and far from being left-wing, as the name "socialist" would suggest, this was a right-wing perversion of socialism in which the bourgeoisie (capitalists) benefited, rather than the proletariat (workers).
That's not to say that Stalin's Russia wasn't also a perversion of sccialism. His was also a dictatorship, and it wasn't the proletariat that had the power, but the Communist Party, another bourgeois entity.
A social democracy is a left-wing ideal. The rest of the civilized world may not have reached that point, but they do have universal healthcare in the form of socialized medicine, and the large majority of them didn't go along with a war for the expansion of capitalist interests.

Statlin was A Socialist dictator. Tell me, what does Ranger 995 stand for?
Posted by ranger995 on April 1, 2006 at 09:55 PM
I meant to add that, in spite of my correction of that part of your post, I was impressed by your overall realism about your time as a marine. I hope your perception is, or will be, prevalent among the troops. If so, there's hope for us yet, because fascist leaders need blind followers to do their bidding in keeping disgruntled citizens from revolting and "revoluting."
what does Ranger 995 stand for?
Ranger,
You don't need to answer that.
Sayings like "nationalist democracy" are what dictators like Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, and Castro use to gather support. They prey on things like Xenophobia.
60srad---When you get too far to the left, you become a socialist dictator. When you get too far to the right, you become a fascist dictator. Both are really bad, but the republicans seem to me more like Stalinists than Nazis. They are more likely to purge "threats" than ethnic groups.
Ranger school class 9-95.
> Statlin was A Socialist dictator.
Posted by brunohokalugie on April 1, 2006 at 10:11 PM
A nationalist "democracy" is another word for fascism. See my post above yours.
Bruno,
Like you and everyone else, I do not use my actual name posting here. I have nothing to hide, and will tell you everthing about me.
However, I used to blog with my real name, and people googled me and I was still in the military. It caused some tension, so I will not use my real name anymore.
Ranger - You say: Actually, I joined the Marines
Rangers are Army, not Marine.
https://www-benning.army.mil/rtb/ranger/photo/9-95.jpg
Which one in the picture are you?
You sound less like a Marine, or Ranger, and more like a communist to me.
I'd have answered that. Can't see what on earth would convince someone not to.
We veterans don't always get along but we know what it is to be brothers.
60srad,
I don't want to sound aggressive, because you seem intelligent and educated.
However, using terms like bourgeoisie and proletariat kind of scares me.
It reminds me of people like Che Guevara, who had good intentions initially, but then caused more harm than good.
The fight between capitalism and communism caused a lot of damage in the 80s. Just ask the poor Guatemalan Mayans who were caught in the middle of Reagan and the leftist rebels.
> 60srad---When you get too far to the left, you become a socialist
> dictator. When you get too far to the right, you become a fascist

So I've been told, but Russia never had a democracy. They went from a czarist plutocracy to a Bolshevik dictatorship to a capitalist dictatorship modeled after Reagan-Bush Amerika. Dictatorships are by definition reactionary (extreme left), because liberalism implies freedom, and the extreme left condition is anarchy. Capitalism requires a police state to protect the property "rights" of its "nobility."
I'm not saying, by any means, that I wholeheartedly support a full-blown radical agenda, but until we at least return to a recognition of capitalism as an anarchic system unto itself and control it as FDR did, before Reagan pulled off his deregulation and privatization scams and fucked us over royally, as both Democratic neo-"liberals" and Repubicans (but especially Republicans) have been doing ever since.
As for the comparisons in terms of ethnic, as opposed to economic "cleansing," the point is moot. It's the overall agenda that is right-wing, whether it be neo-conservative, neo-Nazi, old-style conservative, or old-style Nazi.
> reactionary (extreme left),
Posted by 60srad on April 1, 2006 at 10:34 PM
I can't believe I made that typo—extreme right is what I meant!
Bruno,
Marines go to Ranger school too. So do airmen, sailors, and even some foreign soldiers. I bet if you look hard you can see some 8-point hats in that picture.
I am not the one preaching Xenophobia or nationalism--you are.
All I want is for we rich, greedy, lazy ass Americans to start caring about people who are less fortunate than we are. Ooh, I am such a bad person.
Marine
No Marine, but I have a son. I have taufgt him like my father taught me, my grandfather taught him, and so on that when our nation calls, we answer.
Mr. Bruno H. O’kalugie
Let us never forget
> They are more likely to purge "threats" than ethnic groups.
When you come right down to it, Hitler made the Jews out to be a "threat." See this Common Dreams article from over 4 years ago for more clarification and analogy.
My brother and I used to beat on each other all the time. You know what though? We never stopped playing together.
Ranger
I don't know if you are a bad person or not. But to call American lazy and fat ass helps to explain why you can't tell the difference between legal and illegal immigration. BTW, which one did you say you were in the picture?
Where do you propose getting the money to fund illegal immigrants medical and educational needs considering the numbers are expanding with no relief in sight?
We've answered that call since times when it was made by king and clan.
However, using terms like bourgeoisie and proletariat kind of scares me.

funny...especially coming from a military man. allegedly, since i'm a skeptic when it comes to the blog...and it seems more like theatre, than conversation. you might be sincere, so you've got the benefit of the doubt. i'm sad tonight, thinking about what was lost in Iraq. the photos Dewey posted have left me in a somber mood. grief, i guess.
political theory doesn't scare me. militias do.
yeah, guatemala...blame che...wtf
Marine
Sounds like you may be of Scotish blood. We're having a festival in the Dallas area the first week in June.
You know most of the countries from which immigrants come are doing as well as we Americans are nowadays. Keep in mind that dollar amounts do not translate equally when it comes to the materials with which we live. In some parts you can make a very good life on what we might consider pennies. Wealth is a relative thing.

Exactly. Reagan should have kept his nose out of Nicaragua, just as Nixon and Kissinger should have kept their noses out of Chile. I'm not advocating anything like the U.S.S.R., Red China, of Cuba, but the politicians who took advantage of the "red scare" to keep us from bitching about the abuses of capitalism couldn't allow us to see the possibility of democratically elected socialist states, because that would prove them to be liars.
They were so desparate to eradicate the election in Chile that they placed the fascist Pinochet in power. Does that sound like the action of a democracy or a capitalist dictatorship?
Hey Marine,
Or should I say devildog? I don't hate Bruno, it just freaked me out that he espoused a theory that was developed by nazis. I mean posting to a nazi magazine? He claims ignorance about it, and I guess I have to take him at his word. Thanks for trying to be a peace maker.
60srad,
I do not have the knowledge or authority to argue with you over the nuances of Soviet Russia, thus I cede the argument. In any case, I think we are saying the same thing.
I must say that I am really angry at both Democrats and Republicans because they support corporate interests over all else. Look at agitatedamericans post at the top of this page. I feel very much the same way.
One last thing. I always see bumper stickers saying "If you love your freedom thank a vet" I guess that is true enough, but we owe our freedom and our standard of living to a lot more people than just veterans. We should thank unions for their willingness to secure a middle class by standing up to the robber barons. We should thank thinkers like Thomas Jefferson and Martin Luther King Jr. for making us responsible. We should thank Caesar Chavez for fighting for workers rights. Etc...
Also, look at Iran. One reason they hate us now is that we overthrew their elected prime minister in the 50's to reinstate the Shah at the request of the Rockefellers. Thanks to Republicans and their capitalist cronies, we never have to worry about running out of enemies.
60srad--nice link
from the Hartman piece:
Today, as we face financial and political crises, it's useful to remember that the ravages of the Great Depression hit Germany and the United States alike. Through the 1930s, however, Hitler and Roosevelt chose very different courses to bring their nations back to power and prosperity.
Germany's response was to use government to empower corporations and reward the society's richest individuals, privatize much of the commons, stifle dissent, strip people of constitutional rights, and create an illusion of prosperity through continual and ever-expanding war. America passed minimum wage laws to raise the middle class, enforced anti-trust laws to diminish the power of corporations, increased taxes on corporations and the wealthiest individuals, created Social Security, and became the employer of last resort through programs to build national infrastructure, promote the arts, and replant forests.
To the extent that our Constitution is still intact, the choice is again ours.
> 60srad,
> I do not have the knowledge or authority to argue with you

> In any case, I think we are saying the same thing.
Yes, I think we are. I didn't intend to sound argumentative. I just wanted to try to clear up the propaganda we've all been fed all our lives.
Oh, I don't think Iran has to be that hard to deal with. Many of us make it out to be hard simply by not considering the options, which is rather typical. There is, however, a real possibility that we might be able to reach in there and make a few friends. The hardest thing is to keep our options open.
I didn't say it would be hard to deal with, but if it weren't for letting capitalism trump democracy, they might have been able to keep the Ayatollahs from gaining power in the first place.
Wait a minute, we've had democracy for over 200 years, and even we haven't succeeded. What was I thinking?!
fade2bluz,
I did not blame Che for Guatemala. In fact, I think Che was in Angola starting a revolution during the time frame I am talking about. However, leftist revolutionaries terrorized the people in Guatemala just as much as the army did. The villagers just referred to them all as "men with guns"
In Africa the civilians refer to anyone with a gun as sobel, a combination of rebel and soldier. They fear both tremendously.
Even the zapatista movement, which was probably the most admirable of movements, caused a lot of pain among the local mayans when it turned militaristic.
Political philosophies (not actually theories) like these are used to insight revolution among poor people by rich white dudes like Che and Marcos. Who suffers though? This is why I can't support wholeheartedly either side of what happened in the 80s. Reagan is a scum for supporting the Gueatemalan army financially and by covering up the atrocities. However, the leftist guerillas were no sweathearts, and can't claim the moral high ground.
There is, however, a real possibility that we might be able to reach in there and make a few friends. The hardest thing is to keep our options open.

You are a troll...and the bogus "conversations" are ripe with your inhumanity and hubris. Reach in there and make a few friends? You are joking! Good night and eff off, General.
yeah, MEN WITH GUNS
you nailed it. we're not much more than the "GUNS-R-US" of the world, only bigger and meaner.
i'm sick of it. same shit. bleeding as we bring life into this world, bleeding to keep it alive, and men with guns blowing it to smitherines...
i have no sense of humor left. i have no patience left. i'm out.
fade2bluz,
Why are Democrats not touting the ideals of FDR? Now that is something that I could get behind. Instead, the DLC, a very corporate institution, has taken over.
I long for Democrats like FDR and Republicans like Theodore Roosevelt. If only we could have people of their ilk in power.
so enjoy your circle jerk. and if you can read this, thank a teacher.

Amen!
ranger995 You said:
it just freaked me out that he espoused a theory that was developed by nazis.
The Reconquista (Reconquest) refers to the Christian reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula from Muslim invaders, taking place between 718 and 1492.
The Portuguese Reconquista culminated in 1249 with the subjugation of Algarve by Afonso III. In Spain, the process was completed 250 years later on January 2, 1492 when Boabdil of Granada surrendered the remnants of the last Moorish stronghold Granada, to Ferdinand and Isabella, Los Reyes Católicos ("The Catholic Kings"). This united most of modern Spain under their rule, excluding Navarre, which remained separate until 1512. Source
Are you suggesting the Nazi's were around back 718? It has in recent years resurfaced within the Mexican government.
fade, what on earth did you add to my statement in your head when reading?
60srad,
I am a little ignorant on the Pinochet thing, but I know "we" supported his taking control because he was friendly to our interests there.
Like fade2bluz, I am very depressed over this. It was a real heartbreaker to me when I realized that our military exists to support corporate interests.
Young American soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines are dying thinking that they are supporting an "American way of life". KBR is getting filthy rich. The insurgents are dirty terrorists with their own agenda. The poor civilians who don't care about any of this shit are getting slaughtered.
These things are hard to swallow for a person who joined the military thinking he would protect the innocent.
I want to get behind something, and I wish the Democratic party would provide something that I really believe in. On that note, I am going to sign off. Thanks for the conversation.
Bruno,
Of course, I know that the original reconquista involved Spain. However, that is not the reconquista you were referring to when you posted a nazi website on this blog. I don't even know what the hell you are talking about anymore. Whatever, I am done with you.
I am of many bloods. Aren't you?
Posted by Marine on April 1, 2006 at 10:51 PM
Actually, all from the same starting point.
Time for bubbles...damn jute joints..smoking
Bruno,
Didn't you say that was the first source you could find?
Damn, you have some amped up here.
Ranger
Of course, I know that the original reconquista involved Spain
What you said was:
that he espoused a theory that was developed by nazis
Big difference. Ranger, you are full of it. You clearly know I was referring to the effort in Mexico. I'm starting to believe you're confusing real Soldiers and Marines with your GI Joe dolls.
The only section of that link, and I apologized for the mistake in using the link simply as a reference fordefinition, dealt with Mexico and the renewed reconquista effort.
Many units use the Ft. Benning paratrooper school. But they don't cross train as a single unit, at least they didn't in my day. Monday morning I'm calling you out. I'm contacting the Ranger school at Ft. Benning and inquire if Marine and Army units, which train for entirely different type of missions, cross train in the same class and if Marines use the term "Ranger". I'll post on this board the results of my inquiry.
bruno, I will be watching for that report. I called "ranger" a fraud the first day he posted. Too many inconsistances in what he says for him to be a genuine leather neck jar head. I being an old "straight leg" of the Korea era have had some experience with leather necks...and frauds.
A subject I hate debated, but understand why it is. I found this a worthy article.
Battle for the moral ground
When it comes to the abortion debate in America, there's no middle ground.
Bruno,
OK---Modern Military 101
Look at that picture you posted. Look at the top 2nd from the left. See that guy in a Marine uniform? Wonder how he got there? You can tell he is a Marine from the different hat that he is wearing.I also went to Ft. Benning Airborne school. Every single Ranger school class has Marines in it. They do not participate as a unit, but as individuals. Ranger school is just an advanced infantry training class. It has three parts: One in benning, one in the Georgia mountains, and one in the swamps of the Florida pan handle. Please call them and ask? Bette yet, it most likely says something about it on the school's webpage.
You know there are even Marine instructors at Airborne and Ranger school. Ask them about that too.
Marines and Army both have infantry units that function in very much the same way. They write the same operations orders, they follow the same troop leading procedures, they walk in the same types of formations, their MTOEs are very similar, etc....
"Marines don't use the term ranger?" Are you for real?
In fact, there was an Italian soldier in that class as well as an Air Force weatherman--he was attached to Ranger battalion.
You know just when I start to give you another chance you come out and say some really ignorant stuff. What is your deal?
When are we going to tell our Congresmen and G Bush to keep our mitts off Iran. No hostile action. We can't go around bombing everybody who wants to sell oil for euros. The excuse that they are developing nukes is a smoke screen. Wake up guys. If we don't do something there will be another BIG mess within weeks.
O great, the ever present and most wise Follow the Money chiming in on stuff he/she doesn't know about.
Well, I wasn't in during Korea and Vietnam, so I don't know about you two, but FTM tried to pull some BS before and it didn't work. I guess anytime you find a veteran who is not a right wing nut like yourselves and he must be faking, right?
Go ahead keep trying. I served in both the Marines and Army for a total of 16 years---I know a hell of a lot more about today's infantry than either of you.
Good luck
I really like the title of this one. Not a bad story either.
Beware, Jack, there's steel in her heart
Phase two of the Jack and Condi lifeswap looked like a slightly awkward fifth-form French exchange trip. It could have been a lot worse, obviously. Imagine Juventus beating Arsenal 2-0 in the Champions League this week, and you get an idea of how the second leg of a fixture can unravel. Hecklers apart, the Foreign Secretary will be telling himself that Dr Rice's Blackburn odyssey passed off pretty well.
Go ahead keep trying. I served in both the Marines and Army for a total of 16 years---I know a hell of a lot more about today's infantry than either of you.
Good luck
Yeah, and you're telling the secrets.

FTM tried to pull some BS
humor me, ranger, explain this.
Butters,
There are a lot of people who have served in both the army and the marines. There are also a lot of marines who went through ranger school. I doubt that the Ranger school cadre are going to start giving names to some fruit cup who calls them up. However, they will verify that Marines go through Ranger and Airborne training on a regular basis. I am not giving away any real secrets, and anyone who knows anything about the military today, knows I have my shit right.
FTM--the last thing in the world I want to do is humor you. I came on the blog wanting to talk about issues, and you kept harrassing me--asking me probing questions, which I had the correct answers to. I think that you are a troll whose job it is to get people off topic. A very republican maneuver.
I wasn't a Ranger, never took any "high speed" training other then PLDC, but it is a fact that Marines cross train with the Army Rangers. My best friend (a Marine) was going to do it, but was to close to his ETS date so they didn't send him.
Well, raunchie, that humors me enough for tonight. You must spend a lot of time at the bars where jar heads hang out. It is not very manly to walk around them and rub on their gun barrells tho. And quit trying to tell people what they should do about things you don't know about. You sound plumb silly.
ranger995,
Why can't you stay on topic? I usually talk politics and elections. I gave my opinion on what you had posted.
Believe me, I'm thankful there are posters like you and Bruno.
That wasn't nice calling me names. I'm hardly a troll and I'm the furthest from a repub that you can ever imagine.
BTW PLDC wasnt' necessarily "high speed" though. Should add that.
Hey Butters, it took me a second of catching up to realize who ya are... Ranger, Butters is definately not a troll.
Dell, ranger is probably not a troll. Probly not. He's just an idiot who says silly things and trys to be 'macho'. If he wasn't so officious ( volunteering one's services where they are neither asked nor needed : MEDDLESOME)
sometimes he probly wouldn't have such a hard time on here.
I never said butters was a troll. I have read a lot of your posts and am totally aware you are not a troll. I am sorry that whatever I wrote was misleading. I am pretty sure that I called FTM (follow the money) a troll.
ahh, FTM, I get it now, lol. I'm working midnight shift, so I'm a bit slow on the uptake. FTM isn't a troll either to be honest.
followthemoney,
You do really get under my skin. I should just ignore you, but read my posts from tonight and then quote the "macho" parts. I think you don't even read my posts, you just sit back and laugh while you anger me.
You say that I say silly things, but you have never even had a single discussion with me on any topic other than you accusing me of not being who I say I am.
I have never seen you once post anything of substance. You really annoy me.
FTM isn't a troll.
Sometimes it's difficult to communicate on a blog. There can be so many different subjects being talked about.
I need some beauty sleep.
Peaceful rest, everyone.
officious: volunteering one's services where they are neither asked nor needed : MEDDLESOME
C'mon guys, let's just have some fun on the blogosphere, talk about the issues and how we're going to take this nation of ours back and to greener pastures. This blog has a great bunch of people that post to it and we needn't be divided, especially if we're all here for the same goal, a Democratic Party victory in 2006.
To your point, Bruno, about the paranoid idea of a reconquest, or should I say another lame excuse by the right to promote xenophobic, racist agendas:
No doubt there are a handful of Mexicans who have written about, talked about, and certainly joked about a "reconquest." A far greater number of your Texas brothers and sisters still talk about the Alamo and the Republic. The vast majority of both Mexicans and Texans, however, think neither of a fabled "reconquista" or the glory days of Texas. (And they don't spend their Mondays calling military schools to find out about "cross-training" in a lame attempt to smear someone posting on this blog. But then, most people aren't trolls like you.)
Suddenly there is a problem with immigration that demands our attention, conveniently as Iraq has indesputably slipped into civil war. This is a manufactured crisis. Yes, there are 11 million undocumented workers in the US. Yes, our borders and ports are insecure, made even more so by the innept leadership of your party. Are most of those 11 million out to destroy America? None that I've met. They're too busy trying to make a living. But then, I don't live in paranoia-land as you do, Bruno. I live in a city where 25% of the people are Mexican and, amazingly, the economy isn't falling apart up here and we aren't all required to speak Spanish.
We can decide to have a humane immigration policy, one that accepts new citizens into our country as most of our relatives were accepted in decades past, or we can have an inhumane, racist policy that presumes all immigrants are criminals and undeserving of basic human dignity. The truth is that immigrants do cost our country a lot in health care, in large part because when they get sick they have to visit emergency rooms, but then that puts them with the 40 million other Americans who are uninsured. Great ways to increase those costs are to lock the children of immigrants out of public schools, deny any road to citizenship for their parents, and keep the whole lot of them outside of our healthcare system. Given that our economy and extravagant lifestyles rely on immigrant labor, regardless of the laws we pass we will have illegal immigrants. So do we want them to be ignorant, incapable of rising in class, and without preventative health care, therefore creating yet another disenfranchised underclass? Or do we want to accept the fact that we are a country of immigrants and we are the stronger for it, and that helping new immigrants become part of our society strengthens us?
I find it curious that all of you right wingnuts bring up cost when it comes to social issues but never when it comes to military-industrial pork or corporate welfare. Been to New Orleans lately? Checked out the cruise ships sitting along the river that our government spent $275 million for though no one ever slept in them? Or what about the parking lots filled with empty FEMA trailers, and this doesn't even get into the hundreds of millions KBR has bilked us tax payers of while cheating the government in our ongoing wars. BILLIONS have been spent to line the pockets of a handful of republican a-holes and you complain about immigrants, the vast majority working their asses off so you can buy fruits and vegetables at reasonable prices and have your house built affordably. What a complete joke.
It's sad that we have become so swayed by fear and paranoia that we bite the line when they throw out a new "crisis." But then so many love to be afraid. Afraid and therefore angry. Yes, the world is against you! There is a war on Christianity! And a war on the White People now that the Mexicans are coming back to CONQUER us!! Anger feels good, doesn't it? Makes you feel tough and manly and brutish. It's just so sad that it comes from fear.
I'm not afraid of a "reconquest." I'm afraid of living in a fascist state, one that believes it's better to give out billions in corporate welfare to some of the wealthiest companies in the world than to give education and health care to its citizens and most vulnerable residents, its immigrants. All of those illegals you say are draining the system are paying taxes like the rest of us, just not income tax. They pay sales tax, county, state, and local, and are contributing to our economy in other ways too. Take them away, imprison them, treat them as animals, Bruno, and watch your America turn completely Red, as Red as any bankrupt (literally) dictatorship of the last century.
Well Dellberto,
I suggest you read the post on the top of this page by agitatedamerican. It pretty much sums up how I feel.
Good night.
ranger, you made some comment about signing up and going to war to defend freedom and fight terries and then finding out that's not what you were doing there. and that made you angre? Thats good. What do you think was the real reason you were there? (ok...i will call a truce...you were there...you did what you thought was right.) I had an epifany much to that effect years after comming back from Korea.
That sums up how a lot of us feel, Ranger. We do need a stronger Democratic Party. A Party with the cohanes (sp?) to stand up the not only the GOP but also the doggone big business interests and give the government back to the people. With that being said, I think with Democrats back in power at least in Congress, it's a step to the right direction.
If we don't do something there will be another BIG mess within weeks.
Sometimes in life you have to sit and wait... let the chips fall where they may. Ever been pregnant? Beleive me, you can recover from life's most perplexing situations.
There isn't any mess too big that it can't be fixed. If Bush screws up again, he screws up. There isn't any reason to get so worked up over something you have no control over.
Besides, I'm betting Russia and China have enough spies in the right places that they could stop the worst of Rumsfeld's bright ideas...before they ever get put into play.
Iran is not a military problem. Iraq was not a military problem. They are strategic diplomatic challenges. They will be solved behind the scences by people whose names we don't even know...not with bombing missions or special forces.
Relax, baseball season is just around the corner. Things could be worse.
FTM,
Ok, truce!
Please read the posts I made earlier tonight. Let me just say that I went over there because people I considered to be my brothers were going and I did not want to let them down. I was after all an NCO and had soldiers under me.
Talk to you more later.
SandyH a little less then a month after baseball season starts, trout season starts up here!! Yeah, I'm excited for both. They are tearing down some shrubs behind the building I work in and for some reason I feel a tinge of excitement. Maybe, we can tear down the shrub running this nation into the ground, lol.
DeLLBerto
Tell me, have your heard of a Marine calling himself a term used by the Army like Ranger. Rangers are proud to be Army and Marines are more than proud to be Marines.
I blew the picture up but couldn't tell anything.
Ranger
You call me a right wing nut yet we have only discussed one subject, illegal immigration, which you support. And look back at the post, I acknowledged paratrooper traing for all branches takes place mainly at Ft. Benning. And I'm not asking them for your name. But when they learn a fraud is disgracing the Ranger honor I'll get an answer to the question I propose.
For the record, it is the opinion of many that La reconquista is alive and well in Mexico promoted by the Catholic Church and the Mexican government.
I thought this board was most far left wingers until the first communist surfaced. Who'd of thunk it would be a fraud claiming to be a Ranger and a Marine.
Mr. Bruno H. O’kalugie
They deserve remembering
To be honest, I haven't personally met a Marine who completed Ranger school, so I don't know what they would call themselves, lol. I do know that a friend of mine who was a Marine was going to go to Ft. Benning for Ranger school but the Corps wouldn't send him due to his ETS date and him not wanting to re-enlist. I can't be certain if he was going to do the whole thing or some other part of it like Pathfinder or something like that, but I know it wasn't Airborne because he already did that.
Enough for tonight. I don't mean to get carried away on this but I will not permit anyone period to call me a nazi without a strong challenge.
Goognight and may the wind fill your sails tomorrow.

I don't know that ranger called you a Nazi. He was arguing mainly with your use of the term "nationalist democracy," and so was I. The biggest problem with nationalism is that some people (especially those in the Bush administration) try to equate it to patriotism.
"My country right or wrong" is nationalism, while dissent is patriotic and serves the spirit that founded this once-great country which I am patriotic enough to hope will find its way again.
Funny, Bruno, you make no mention of my challenge to your racist ideology. Do you have no answer? Is that it?
And as for whether or not Ranger went to ranger school as a marine, I assure you he did. My husband is a ranger. He was a marine during the first gulf war then went into the national guard and joined a ranger unit. When he went to Ranger School in the late 90s he trained with marines and even soldiers from South America. Call Ft. Benning and be further humiliated, you troll.
And as for "communists," brother you are so red Stalin would see you as a friend. Yes, Ranger was right about that too: Red is as red believes. You call yourselves red staters and it's correct. You want a totalitarian government to tell you what to do and to protect you from all that you fear, which apparently includes Mexicans.
So sad, Bruno, that you are so afraid. Fear is potent, yes, but it can't be defeated with more of it. How silly, really, that you can't see how you are being played by members of your own party. Hurry! Be afraid of this! Be afraid of that! It's as if Rove et al are following Big Brother's playbook and you, like O'Brien, are playing along. The thing is, though, O'Brien and Big Brother were the biggest traitors of them all. Their loyalty was to an idea, to power, not to people. This is what makes you completely different than Ranger. He had loyalty to his men, that's why he stayed in the military. You have loyalty to an abstract idea. Call me crazy, but if I had to choose who to stand next to, I'd choose someone loyal to humanity over someone loyal to an abstract noun.
> I will not permit anyone period to call me a
> nazi without a strong challenge.

James Dean was in "Rebel Without a Cause." Is "Nazi Without a Strong Challenge" a similar concept?
Im tired of all theses politicians and other people saying our country is a religious country. We are a country of LAW! I believe religions bad. Anyone who persicutes because of there sexuality, there color, and pushes their views on everyone else shouldn't be around. How do they think there is a god? Our ancestors were not very smart. None of them were educated except those who were part or the goverment otherwise they weren't smart. They new how to do whatever job they had. People needed something to believe in because they were enslaved. They had nothing else. No T.V., no sports, nothing. Science was looked down upon. If we had the technology back then, then they may have found out that Mary wasn't a virgin! Its possible people these days lie why would it be differant back then. We all know that a woman cannot get pregnant miraculousy. Sperm MUST fertilize the egg. If they were educated they wouldn't have believed it! All the wars in the past were faught over "religion" when what it really was, was kings and queens fighting for land and wealth.
