Spring Meeting: Rules & ByLaws

Posted by on April 20, 2006 at 04:24 PM

By far and away, one of the most popular of the meetings taking place today was the rules committee. The reason for that was the first piece of business on the agenda... the 2008 Primary calendar. The following states made presentations to "conduct presidential preference contests in the pre-window period:" Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, D.C., Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, South Carolina, West Virginia. All of them provided attendees with lengthy packets chock full o' information making their cases. Some states, like Alabama, filled portions of receiving tables with goodies promoting their state.

It's important to note that I include the Nevada video, not because of any preference, but because I was torn between three different meetings taken place at the same time, and it's the only piece I was able to get. I'll have more on the other meetings throughout the day, but wanted to get this up as soon as possible.

Dan Slater of the Colorado Democratic Party has more on his blog.

Thank you Tim for keeping us "posted." Thanks for bringing us there. I've got New Orleans on my mind. My son and daughter graduated from Tulane University there and they have friends with destroyed homes and lost jobs.

Could you set up an online vote for the convention city for 2008? [I would vote for New Orleans].

Thanks Tim.

So we got the dates for the DNC Convention taking place after the Beijing Olympics from Aug. 25 to Aug 28.

RNC has picked Sept. 1 to 4.

I think New Orleans should be on the finalists list to. Did they present??

This is different than the 2008 Democratic Convention. This was for primary/caucus positioning for the presidential primaries.

Tim, I understand what you are talking about regarding the primaries/caucuses. Many cities want to hold Presidential Primaries or Caucuses early in the year in 2008. As Iowa and New Hampshire do.

But wasn't Denver and Minneapolis doing presentations to host the 2008 Convention?? And wasn't Florida lobbying to host the Convention as well.
