Stories From The Ground: West Virginia

(The following entry was submitted by Tyler J. Oyler, Field Organizer for the West Virginia Democratic Party -- and one of your DNC organizers -- Tim)

Last month I was doing a precinct training session in Keyser, West Virginia, and we were discussing how to organize and to do read a voter file, etc... I then mentioned the April 29th Canvass. People started raising their hands to start participating, and we ended up with 12 confirmed canvasses in Mineral County, a county with just under 30,000 residents where Bush carried 69% of the vote in 2004. After that day though, more and more canvasses popped up and though it was not all recorded on the DNC website, we have just around 18 now going in this small county.

This is such a good feeling. You can already feel not only just what is going on in Mineral County or the Eastern Panhandle, but across the state of West Virginia, we are going to 'Make it Blue' in '06 and '08. Organizing our precincts and strengthening our local parties has been our main objective in the Eastern Panhandle, but we face many challenging races ahead. We must re-elect Sen. Robert C. Byrd and Congressman Alan Mollohan. We must unseat Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito. We must send back our Democratic lawmakers to Charleston, and we must be unified as Democrats. Already the volunteers and activist throughout the Eastern Panhandle who have gone through trainings and signed up for the canvasses agree on our new vision for America. We all agree it's time for change.

Everyone who we've spoken with thus far, Democrat, Republican, Independent all agree we need a new direction. County-by-County, Precinct-by-Precinct, Neighbor-by-Neighbor, we are going to change the direction of the Eastern Panhandle and West Virginia. Keep watching us and stay tuned, the best is yet to come. LET'S MAKE IT BLUE!!!!

I thought that certain authorities are investigating Congressman Alan Mollohan in regard to his joint purchase of land with a defense contractor and other issues.

It seems to me that if we don't want to get tarred with the same brush we were so eager to use on Ney and DeLay regarding political corruption we should tread very lightly in our support of this fellow Mollohan.

Almost Heaven. Cool.

Okay, DNC Blog Fathers, on May 1, I hope you have a nice day of posting planned to commemorate Karl Joseph Goebbels Rove's "Mission Accomplished" anniversary.

Tell readers what was claimed to have been accomoplished and what was not.

Tell them that we were sold a Texas pig in a poke called Iraq.

Tell them that anything BUT moral imperative, decency, humility, and adhearance to law and Constitution have come down the Bush pike since May 1 day one.

Tell them Bush has broken America, ran her dry of money, of moral pride, of principle, and of purpose.

Tell Americans that May 1 is a day to remember shameless lies, tin soldier dress up, putting on a play, and cowboy swaggering stupid.

Tell them Karl Rove, who spent a couple of gillion on the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln dog and pony show is likely to end up in jail.

Tell folks that Bush drove America into the ditch because of his abject ineptness and prideful disconnect from reality.

Tell Americans Bush tossed the Constitution into the trash can, sold democracy to China, Big Oil, Wal-Mart, and corruption.

Tell Americans of Bush's hypocrisy on religion, charity, compassion, and moral soundness.

Tell them Bush is a liar, incompetent, an abuser of power, and one who is derelict in his duty, just as he was in his Air Guard days when he went AWOL.

Tell America Bush is the worst president in the history of the nation.

He just flat out is!

Are you up on the direction the Democrats are heading for on every issue? Especially the tough
stand on the War in Iraq? The Iraqi will try to keep the small amount of American fighters under Bush, as usual, so they can kill more and more of our Troops. But the Democrats will put an overwhelming amount of fighters in and clean up the insirgents and then get out and let their elected Government bring peace to the country. We
want nothing from them but just hope for the best as an influnce to other Nations. But, that is up to the Iraqui! May God protect our Troops until we can send help!
