TX-22: More DeLay
Posted by on April 4, 2006 at 01:00 AM
It just wouldn't be Tom DeLay if he didn't find a way to twist the rules one more time on his way out the door.
He said he will change his legal residence to his condominium in Alexandria, Va., from his modest two-story home on a golf course here in the 22nd District of Texas. "I become ineligible to run for election if I'm not a resident of the state of Texas," he said, turning election law to his purposes for perhaps on last time. State Republican officials will then be able to name another Republican candidate to face Democrat Nick Lampson, a former House members who lost his seat in a redistricting engineered by DeLay.
Markos makes a good point over at Kos. DeLay's bowing out in the face of slumping poll numbers does not absolve congressional Republicans of the fact that they bent and twisted ethics rules, but in a way that would allow DeLay to keep his leadership position in the House. The message sent is clear, severe ethical problems and indictment are no cause consternation in a Republican controlled congress, only an opportunity to brazenly flaunt their culture of corruption.

The ascent of "conservatism" has reached its apex with this congress and this administration.
Their particular ideology was doomed from the beginning - anyone who thinks that government can't do any good is unlikely to take governing seriously
They're only more likely to take it as a means to personal power or fortune.
See, now this is why I left the Ministry. This tolorance of "fakeness" in the Church. You can't play like that and think it's okay.I know God is Mercy, but these people are "playin" Church.
PERFECT EXAMPLE right here:
"Let people see Christ through me. And let me smile.' Now, when they took the shot, from my side, I thought it was fakiest smile I'd ever given. But through the camera, it was glowing. I mean, it had the right impact. Poor old left couldn't use it at all."
.Tom De Lie talking about his MUG SHOT!
Why do people think that "GOD don't like ugly" unless it's them being ugly? Then it's "I'm suffering for the Lawd" This crap,in addition to the "Women can only Teach Sunday School" is why I don't "assemplbe" myself with them anymore.;D
First off, I want to know how come this blog doesn't let me comment using Opera. It used to. KOS had this problem for a while too, but now it's fixed. So, I'm pretty sure it's not me.
Anyway, why does DeLay's house have to be described as "modest?" What's the relevance? Does he have children at home, aged parents? If not, then a two-story house isn't modest to begin with.
Please check out this diary on KOS and watch the video.
Good morning, dears. Here's the link to a Truthout article, which appears to be the source for the excerpt posted by Tim at the head of this thread:

Oh well, so much for my "Unopposed Lampson Fantasy."
I believe he said in his resignation speech, "You'll never get my blood. God curse you all."
Nothing has changed at the Capitol. The Republicans are still conducting their dirty business as usual. There is no ethics committee. There is no legislattion that would stop what DeLay put into place.
John Boehner spends half his time on lobbyist-paid golf trips instead of in Washington. Rick Santorium still meets weekly with those that offer bribes and doesn't try to hide it.
The Republican culture of corruption is weaker without the Hammer at the helm, but the Republicans don't see any reason to change things.
But the times they are a-changin.
Delay is also taking his war chest of campaign funds to pay his legal bills. By announcing now, he stops paying for any reelection costs, preserves his Congressional perks until the end of May (at least), and walks off with a huge amount of cash. Just business as usual.
