Thousands of citizens were evacuated from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina destroyed their communities. Many of these fellow Americans lost their homes and loved ones. But they haven't lost their right to vote.

On September 30th New Orleans will hold an open primary election, on November 7th there will be a open general/congressional primary election, and on December 9th there may be a congressional run off election. The information below, taken from the Louisiana Secretary of State website is intended to help New Orleans voters to participate in the upcoming elections either in-person or by absentee ballot.

If you need further assistance, please contact the Democratic Party's Hotline for New Orleans Voters at 1-888-DemVote or the Louisiana Secretary of State's office at 1-800-883-2805. Or see our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Displaced New Orleans registered voters can participate in the September 30 Open Primary, the November 7 Open General/Congressional Primary, or the December 9 Congressional Run Off by voting with an Absentee Ballot. For more information see our Frequently Asked Questions page.
