Kicking Ass: The Democratic Party's Blog

CA-50: One Week to Go!

Posted by on May 30, 2006 at 01:28 PM

Francine Busby has one short week until Election Day. Jesse Lee reports the NRCC is in for 3.96 million.

On top of that US News and World Report notes:

Staffers from the National Republican Congressional Committee are quietly telling GOP House members to prepare for a possible loss in the June 6 special election to fill the seat of Randy "Duke" Cunningham, now in prison for taking bribes. The Southern California district is heavily Republican, but some GOP insiders believe that Democrat Francine Busby will defeat former GOP Rep. Brian Bilbray and go on to win a full term in November.

and the LA Times says:

Normally, this district is so Republican that Democratic strategist Donna Brazile says it's not just red, but "ruby red."

However, with Bush's approval ratings severely hobbled by Iraq and other issues and Cunningham in prison for the biggest corruption case in congressional history, the GOP is running concerned, if not downright scared.

A loss here, or even a close victory, could be seen as a sign that the GOP hold on Washington is slipping and that November could see wholesale change.

So here we have a district considered, not that long ago, to be solid Republican. And yet, it's in play. It's close. Polling has shown Busby tied, and at times, ahead of her opponent.

The Republican Culture of Corruption has spread so far and wide that even the reddest of Districts is a possible pick-up opportunity. So many more Republican incumbents are in facing hard challenges than Democrats and there is a reason for that. Americans everywhere are tired of an incompetent Administration and a rubber-stamp Republican Congress and Francine Busby may just be their first opportunity to show it.

"Sometimes me think it better"

aw man, I thought you were a preprogramed mindless message, computer generated,

Poor old Rep. Jefferson comes from a disadvantaged race, a poor state, and was only trying to live a better life. Why can't Ted Kennedy introduce a bill that will let Jefferson pay a fine, taxes on $90,000 of the $100,00, and receive the title of Senator of the United States?

I dont think Jefferson can compare to the stupidity of Bush's appointees.

PAULSON another wonderful BUSH in the pocket appointee!

"Ethics Group Criticizes Henry Paulson Nomination for Treasury; Cites Nature Conservancy Conflict of Interest and Fannie Mae Fraud"

"Paulson's son Merritt is a trustee of a Nature Conservancy-related group that was the recipient of a Goldman Sachs donation in the form of a tract of land totaling 680,000 acres in Chile."

Just another way of the rich keeping it all in the family, I guess Bush knows the drill all to well.

You're right dk2. And Bush set up Jefferson to intimidate the legislators about to work on amnesty for illegals and their employers. Isn't it likely that every Senator and Representative might have a couple of ticket stubs or golf trip passes in their closet? Why does Gonzales not see 12 million customers needing his agency's attention, and then want to bust news reporters and Representatives? Why do illegal aliens and their employers get a pass on the law and not Jefferson? Should we care about law anymore?

"Why does Gonzales not see 12 million customers needing his agendcy's attention?"
Because, in his mind, Gonzales doesn't have 12 million customers, he only has one to whom he is inordinately loyal. Heil Bush!

One Democrat vs how many Republicans???
My remark abour Gonzales referred to the fact that he is going after one Democrat and ignoring how many Republicans? More than just a few, the exact number won't be even become known until we get some real investigation going on Congressional and White House corruption.
As for the illegal immigrants, it's very interesting that the so-called "free" trade agreements that caused the economic chaos in Mexico and in this country were backed to the hilt by the big business Republicans.
It's also interesting that the immigration issue became big news right before the congressional race that the Republicans are facing their hardest fight.
Things that make you say, "Hmmmm????!!!"
As for cleaning the Democrat house, that's why we have primaries, to get rid of the Republi-lite sell-outs before they can further damage the party.

Is you name really soccerdad?
Miiister soccerdad: I am not excusing corruption. I am pointing out that there are a hell of a lot more Republicans who are getting indicted than Democrats, and this during a Repbulican administration that is trying to hide a lot of the corruption and lie its way out of the scandals.
No one said that the Republi-lites put people first, they won't, they are Republicans in disguise. That's why they need to be fired in the primaries.

Because the Republicans have been taken over by the right-wing of the party, and have either subverted or driven out the moderates. The Republican party is marching in lock-step, sprouting their Republican boiler-plate, has-nothing-to-do-with-the real-world, screw the common person thetoric.
Believe me, I've tried sending emails to my Republican senator and congressman, and all I get back is a regurgitation of the Republican party line, like the voters opinions count for nothing. I'm sure can't match Abramoff to get their attention.
It's going to take years, decades even, to reform the Republican party, if it ever happens.
The Republicans became the party of big business back in the days of the 19th century robber barons and they have only changed for the worse in the last 40 years.
Used to be one could find a moderate Republican to vote for, and now they are all right wing sociopaths.

I am getting flyers paid for by the DCCC that stating Busby's position advocating repealing the "death tax" as it states. I was a little skeptical at first but seems that is Busby's position.
I just can't vote for a Democrat that would take that position. What is further frustrating is that the DCCC is paying for pushing that position.
I am ready to declare the Democratic Party doomed.

The Dems might be doomed, but right now, they're all we got.
The third parties are so fragmented, all they are just spoilers for the Republicans.
I've tried to tell a lot of people, whom I've talked to, that. They keep telling me that the Dems are just like the Republicans, and they're going third party, most of them are talking about the Libertarian.
It's the 700lb gorilla in the living room that the DNC/DLC keep ignoring, and as long as they ignore the obvious, the gorilla keeps growing.
Primaries are so we can take back the party for the working people, who are the true base of the Democrat party. This primary season is pivotal.
Support your local candidates who will stand up for the people, and not the Republi-lite sell-outs.
