Late Night Open Thread
With a beautiful three day weekend ahead of us, there is no time like the present to volunteer and help take back our country.
Take the time this weekend to reach out to local candidates and consider spending a few hours volunteering this weekend. Senate, Congress, Governor, State House or School Board. All of these campaigns can use a few good men and women.
Why not you?
Have some fun and do some good.

NO TROLLS ALLOWED!! It will be a LOOOOOOOONG weekend, and trolls will be rampant.
BEWARE OF NAME HIJACKING AGAIN!!!
Those who seem to be posting aren't actually the ones who are doing it.
WATCH OUT FOR SUBTLE DIFFERENCES IN SPELLING OR PUNCTUATION OF THE BLOGGER'S NAME.
The trolls are out of "rehab" or "school" or "Prison", or...
LUCK!
Culture of Corruption is an anchor around the Pubes' neck!
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Mike Malloy mentions there IS NO OPPOSITION PARTY only some opposing Democrats.
(I don't know how I functioned as a citizen before Air America)
25 "democrats" proved their inability to STAND up today and OPPOSE this REGIME that is trying to turn this into another NAZI GERMANY!!
With that many lambs willing to follow to the slaughter is there any hope at all?????

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Iran has a right to develop nuclear technology and the international community should drop its demands that Tehran prove it's not trying to build a nuclear weapon, Iraq's foreign minister said Friday.
"Iran doesn't claim that they want to obtain a nuclear weapon or a nuclear bomb, so there is no need that we ask them for any guarantee now," Hoshyar Zebari said after meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki.
Iran's nuclear ambitions are "an international issue," Zebari said. "In our beliefs, it is a matter of principle. Every country has the right to have its nuclear technology, every country like the Islamic Republic or any other country, since it is for peaceful purposes."
that supports our position nicely...hahahahaha...
schmucks
..(ahem)...
So....Benj....are you gonna tell us all about being called in to the PRINCIPLED office?
Hmmmm? Hmmmm?
(Let's ditch these squares and go smoke behind the Pastor's garage).
Oh, but Dawnie, he was going to be confirmed anyway, so they might as well vote for him. Because Democratic politicians really don't stand for anything. Period. They're only Democrats because the Republican party was full when they wanted to run.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - It’s been 10 months since a roadside bomb in Iraq killed Cathy Brunson’s son and three fellow Georgia National Guardsmen — not long enough to heal, she says, and too late to take much comfort in President George W. Bush’s admission he’s made mistakes in conducting the war.

Tracy Joan gave me a whipping.
She said if I don't stop spamming...
and if I don't stop engaging with the trolls...
and if I don't start watching my P's and Q's...
She was going to take my meal card and stamp it NO DESERT.
She told me that...
she knows when I've been bad or good so be good for goodness sake.
So I'm going have to straighten up and fly right from now on.
Wow BOTH Greg's in one place!!! Been years!!
Hola guys! (and gals) are any of you listening to Mike! He gets me so excited to know there are others OUT there with the same worrys.
Of course then sometimes I think.......... yep we are just lazy slobs who would rather just LET them do what they will and ruin everything we hold dear!
If NOV vote is not a serious Democrat take over then I suggest we ALL buy motor homes and head NORTH (or SOUTH) cuz THIS country won't be worth living in anymore!!
(a real fear)

it was pure arrogance on the part of the US Administration to assume they could replace saddam with a government made from the fuedal tribes that would be sympethetic to them. Having them side with another Islamic nation right out of the box was a bit of a no-brainer, any such government that sided with someone thought of in the region as a war criminal would have no hope of legitimacy to those they presume to govern.
ol condilingus shoulda seen that one coming, being the secretary of state and all... since she was previously the national security advisor, it should have been even more obvious since it is kinda the duty of that position to know how the enemy might think.
nice piece at the village voice about gore's presentation to a packed crowd of i imagine a few thousand at town hall, times square, manhattan:
Al Gore and the Moral Imperative
By Anya Kamenetz | May 26, 2006
"Our political system has something in common with the earth's climate," Al Gore is saying to wild applause. "It is non-linear. Change can seem to be happening slowly, and then it can shift to a completely new path." The former vice president and current star of the documentary An Inconvenient Truth (official site: climatecrisis.net) was describing, to a packed house at Town Hall in Times Square yesterday, why he feels more hopeful than the most pessimistic scientists that the most serious consequences of global warming can be averted.
The event was full of hope, much of it taking a decidedly partisan shape and residing in the figure of Mr. Gore himself. "I wanted to get this chance to see the next president of the United States," said Bryan Snyder, waiting in line with his 17-year-old son Spencer. "I wouldn't be surprised if people looked at him with fresh eyes after this movie." Neither would the New York Times, New York Magazine, or liberal bloggers.

Mike says the DU has a Malloy thread that runs every night. I may go look over there as well. This guy is a righteous dude! Serious tin foil hat wearer! :-)
america1, i have been mindful of your recent theme of what does reality look like from outside of the usa and have found it instructive. in this case however i do find the iranian president as well as our dear leader to both be flaming assholes...

I told you.
People are getting fed up with me posting too much non related stuff.
People are getting fed up with me arguing with the trolls.
I must excercise honest debate like Dr. Howard Dean.
I must set an example to everyone that we can share our thoughts, debate about current issues and still have fun at the same time.
Don't mess with Principal Tracy Joan or your gonna get your hide tanned old school.

Ok if GORE is President he has to have Murtha for a VP otherwise I am seriously falling for that man!
He was right on about those Marines, about Iraq about everything he's been asked. I love his honest passionate responses! He's not memorizing some freaking talking points like I hear biden, schumer and the rest of that dlc gang continue to do.......... is it their MONEY that makes them turn into so many sheep?
Are they hooked on the money? They don't HAVE any power so it can't be that.

in the chat/blog circles, "troll" is not actually meant to mean a creature of the ogre variety.. it's centered around "troll fishing" where you cast a baited hook and putz around waiting for a bite...
I've been kinda busy the past few months trying to recover from the "prosperity" of the country. I got "prosperitied" right out of my job in December, and just got a new one last month. But yay! I'm now a real developer, instead of just playing one on my computer. Now all I need is something that doesn't eat as much gas as my pick-em-up truck (yes, I know, I'm a BAD progressive...but heck, I do live in Texas).
But it is such a joy to listen to Air America during the LOOOOOONG drive time...I always enjoy yelling at Randi on my way home when she doesn't quite have her facts straight...but it's more fun when I drive along singing "I'm the Decider", lol!
I am so looking forward to next Friday, when "An Inconvenient Truth" opens at the Angelika down here.

About Trolls and Flamers
AM1 if I still drank I'd take that blackberry brandy off your hands mate!! hehe!
Basically it is making a statement that you hope someone will respond to?
uh, i guessed i looked the other way too long. benji's roll call of candidates...benji, ya went thru the entire united states?
Interesting word that, troll.
It means trying to 'bait' someone into responding, like fishing.
Posted by Marine on May 26, 2006 at 11:36 PM
yes, only with the respondant considered "prey" rather than a fellow conversationalist

Marine,
I define trolls as individuals who attack other bloggers but never state their own views or stay on topic.
I don't agree with you on many occasions but I never get into heated debates with you because you never aggressively attack anyone to get your point across.
So I just read your posts so I know what you're thinking, I respect your diverse views and move on.
I have never had reason to define you as a troll.
As a matter of fact, I remember when I first started blogging here. You were one of the first blogger I remember reading.
Tune, that describes everyone and anyone who has a conversation online.
tune, i never heard such a clear definition of troll as used in the two dimensional world.
We have two people here (at the moment, anyway) who have certain basic troll characteristics:
They are unable or unwilling to take responsibility for their words or behavior.
They are unable or unwilling to consider the possibility that they have brought a great deal of dislike upon themselves.
I don't know for certain, but my feeling is that each of them is filled with self-hate, and is unable to face that issue.

well marine and i disagree on the clarity of tune's definition...kinda funny...
Okay, I don't consider anyone prey. I disagree often, but I don't plan on eating anyone.

gregl, yeah but i think he is evolved past wanting to be president. like the way bush has devolved from a chimp to a mud puppy.
glad you found a job. if your in texas and your vehicle weighs less than three tons and has wheels with a diameter of six feet or less you are a greenie...
Momo, sometimes you just have to confront your fears. Not trying to start anything with you really, although I think that you believe that I am something I am not.
since i've trashed enough on kingbush and the english lap poodle, what's up with ol' joe vs lamant? on the west coast don't get east coast scoop. it has perked a lot of interest, this maverick trying to tread on bush's favorite demo lap pooch's territory.
marine, i am glad you are ruling out cannablism...creatures roaming the small praire towns moaning "brainssss, brainssss) are way more trouble than trolls...
Indifference, is a dangerous thing because it causes us to unknowingly misunderstand where others are coming from.

this is from Trolls & Flamer by Diane Wilson, thought it fit here, except there is only one and not two people here that it fits at the moment imo
Well, Benji,
I LIKE your "Candidate's Synopses" for the various long shots. Your John Leasch blurb probably did a lot for his Campaign especially in light of Coach Hastert sweating like a pig (as per usual) lately.
The rest is between you and the Principal.
I don't feel anyone here presently is coming remotely close to troll behavior!
I don't want to get them started either (if they're lurking)
so far the night is quite pleasant. I'd rather not test my luck.
I like straight forward people. I just consider beating around the bush to be a serious character flaw. These people might suspect that I am picking on them when all I'm doing is asking for an honest answer.
Posted by Dawnie on May 26, 2006 at 11:38 PM
Definitely a better job, if not better paying. And yeah, the pickup comes in handy for home projects, and hauling the riding mower to the shop when I forget to put oil in it and need a new engine. Hmmm....wonder if anyone is making ethanol or bio-diesel engines for mowers? They really are bigger polluters than cars. Unfortunately, practicality is going to win out over conscience for me in that regard. I am not mowing an acre with a manual mower.
Talking to evasive people is like running in circles. You can tire yourself out and still never get anywhere.
Interesting word that, troll.
It means trying to 'bait' someone into responding, like fishing.

just not tonight! I want to celebrate the fact we are so much less corrupt than the PUGS!!! something like 15 to 1!!!
You know Dawnie, you're right, no troll behavior here.....

I'm so happy for Florida even though I'm not there anymore!

I remember my DAD (the popular science and popular mechanics freak) buying one of the first electric lawn mowers! He loved it and it was so quiet!! It would go on its own too. I mean you pulled up the lever and it started moving by itself you just had to guide it!
Of course we had a suburban yard! You'd need a BIG long extention cord for what you have!! LOL
I'm going to have to assume that Momo was talking about me since she sees fit to ignore my questioning.
Hey guys -
Hope you all have a great weekend.
Remember one thing: Your principal is your PAL!
:)
Seriously - good to see everyone having a real debate around these parts. I think it's one of the great things about our side of the aisle - that we respect and encourage good debate and honest exchanges.
Only then do we grow our Party and expand our perspectives.

UK lawmaker says assassinating Blair would be justifiable...Friday, May 26, 2006; Posted: 11:30 p.m. EDT (03:30 GMT)
LONDON, England (AP) -- Maverick Member of Parliament George Galloway has said it would be "morally justified" for an assassin to target Prime Minister Tony Blair...he would like to go a few rounds with both Blair and Bush.
"I'd take them both at once," Galloway said.
"That's what really upsets me. They are the sort of men who are ready to fight to the last drop of other people's blood. They couldn't personally punch their way out of a paper bag. They send other mothers' sons to their death, and I find them both deeply repugnant," he said."
This is what I disliked about the atmosphere that's existed since Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq and I am sad to see that it has yet to leave.

That fact was related to the proper authorities and the DNC. I multi-tasked it since it has been a FEDERAL LAW since last January.
These new candidates need to be putting their movies for advertising on the DISH Satellite on Channel 9410 and Channel 9415. Here are the links:
LINK TV Channel 9410
FREE SPEECH TV or FSTV Channel 9415
RIGHT-WING Owned Corporate TV will never allow anyone on the LEFT enough time to get their points across. The only media the LEFT has is these two Channels on Satellite and a little on C-Span. I thought I would be seeing some ads on these channels, but I have seen none. Time is getting short. One of the best way to make yourself known in through television and I think these two Satellite Channels will be very obliging.

Marine,
For this being a Blog on the Democratic Party web site, there sure are a lot of people on here talking about things other than Politics.
I guess they just don't care about what is going on in this world.
Good evening, all you fine progressive peeps!
Drinks are on the house tonight!!!
From the NSA site:
Americans expect NSA to conduct its missions within the law. But given the inherently secret nature of those missions, how can Americans be sure that the Agency does not invade their privacy?
The 4th Amendment of the Constitution demands it... oversight committees within all three branches of the U.S. government ensure it... and NSA employees, as U.S. citizens, have a vested interest in upholding it. Respecting the law is only a part of gaining Americans' trust.
*********
This, from an agency that just finished refusing the DoJ and FCC to investigate what appears to be clear violations of the constitution...
Remind me later to send these guys an email saying thanks for the laff... oh never mind, they can just read it here. bastards.
Love the kid bit, nice recruiting stunt there. I bet if you dig hard enough you will find a "snitch on your folks" program in there somewhere
Heya, tonito! I'll take a pint of Guiness if ya got it! And stuff something in Albuquerque's mouth, willya? Preferably a dirty sock.
Albuquerque, I think that there were three of us who realize just how much garbage the whole arguement "Businesses will just leave if they can't get cheap immigrant labor" is. We understand that most of these jobs are hopelessly connected to resources here in the United States, but most don't appear to. Heck, they don't even realize how giving business access to an enormous immigrant labor force might affect the livelihoods of Americans who seek to shrink the gap between the wealthy and the poor not expand it further.
Looks like its been a fun day here in never never land.

Don't worry, Bruno told me to be nice tonight. Besides, I kinda like you.

I think they are aware of the issues, most of them at least. enough of them that understanding the finer points is not all that important.
Issues are:
-border is too open.
-illegal immigration is not good for anyone except businesses here that are forced to sell in a market with little or no disposable income.
-new immigration quotas are disproportional to the job creation curve.
Defining and redefining the issues, over and over ad nausem, does not cause solutions. You have repeatedly stated your view of the problem, so what say we moveon.org and you present some of your ideas to resolve the issues at hand?
Life in the U.S. changed after Regan took office. I met Regan and talked with him for about 10 minutes. He was a nice guy, but I disagree with his economic policies.
Before Regan, people were concerned about each other and their country. Ever since Regan came to office people changed to "It's all about Me". And that is the way U.S. Businesses are now.

When you're being insulting, AlbuquerqueNo1, I will tell you to put a SOCK in it.
As to being better than the Republicans....I don't consider myself better than any group of people. Better than most Replublicans?...maybe. Better than certain Republicans?...definitely. You'll notice you haven't been detained and questioned without benefit of counsel.
Oh Tune, I've presented my solution. It involves using physical barriers, that aren't affected by a lack of interest or those who would assist those who illegally entered or remained in the United States, and extremely tought penalties for all those who violate our immigration laws.
Posted by Tom_Terrific on May 27, 2006 at 12:55 AM
Sorry, TT. That was in ref to a Husband and Wife tag team who would come on here and post ACRES and ACRES and screen YARDAGE of some weird Sci-Fi crapola, (which I guess they thought was relevent) and it would have NO context, nor POINT.
Maybe it is just a co-inky dinky that YOU (who ain't the same "Tom" ) and "Martha" (who so far ain't Tom's wife) showed up.

People are still concerned about each other and their country... Reagan didn't change much there.. his policy was however a major turning point, as that was the first time the economic policy for the entire nation was discarded and replaced with one to placate the masses while entrenching the rich into their position of being able to own the government.
Legalizing illegal immigration, what's next making drug dealers honorary pharmacists?
Posted by Marine on May 27, 2006 at 01:07 AM
multipart solution, so one part at a time to avoid confusion... by physical barrier do you mean a wall, or personell, both? something different?
I'm just not feeling the whole "give up and accept the fact that people will do things we don't want them to do" mentality. You either enforce your laws or your helping people break them. It's that simple.
This of course would not be a problem if the Mexican government had not already achieved the sort of division of wealth that more and more Americans now seem willing to adopt.
I'll stop there. Have a nice night all. And do try and hang onto your dignity.
ok, wall and personel...
A wall is wishful thinking. show me a 50 foot wall, i'll show you a 51 foot ladder. it will cost billions upon billions for a 2000+ mile wall that will have the effect of adding about 5 minutes to a borderjumper's travel time.
Personel should be utilized most certainly. for the cost of 100 miles of wall they can have 10 years of effective border patrol.
Electronic surveilance should be added, initial cost investment with little in the way of upkeep expenses

But yes, I agree that these countries that have people that are so desperate to escape need our help and influence to raise the standard of living. If only so the pressure on our borders will ease.

Because of the large area and the cost of man power. I worked in an area with a 10 mile perimeter that called for a minimum of 100 fully armed personnel for every shift. Not to mention the four fences with one wired with 10,000 volts.
The cost would be too much.

aside from the odd batch of cubans that come in on floating trucks, the mexicans are the only ones who can (and do) sprint across the border. Yes they are a small percentage of refugees and/or immigrants. However, unless people overseas have suddenly learned to walk on water, the only ones in a position to stream across the border illegally are the canadians and the mexicans.
the canadians don't bother, because they hate american beer.
so, what are you left with? political correctness does not trump logic or fact.
Here's an interesting site many in the Sierra Club use for examining immigration and its cause and effect on urban sprawl, landfills, public education, county hospitals, and public schools among other things.
It is primarily a non-party affiliated Democrat site which questions the sustainability of our current immigration policies. Its conclusions are not racist just factual analysis.

I agree, I thought alot of the republicans was against confirming him. Did you e-mail your Senator with your opinion? For some reason, he was confirmed quickly.
At any rate, i was attempting to draw marine out on his actual ideas. I'm sure he has stated them before, but they are usually mixed so thoroughly with statements saying everything we do and think is wrong that the points are entirely missed. He has some very good points, and he understands the problem. I give him that. So far, tho, no one has been able to understand his solutions.

FBI beefs up staff to probe pols

Federal law-enforcement officials say they witnessed a dramatic jump in campaign-finance and other election-related crimes in the 2004 presidential election year and are determined to beef up their policing of candidates running for federal and local office around the country this year.
Treat those who employ or otherwise aid persons here illegally to the absolute worst torture one could imagine. Give them to the governments from which those individuals fled. Ask that those governments imprison them for two months and then release them in the toughest area of their country from which they may make their way back to the United States. We'll call it sensativity training.

uh oh.. that can be good, that can be bad.. watch for imbalances in which party is targetted for investigation, but more importantly, on how their campaigns are interfered with.
For those of you discussing just what percentage of our criminal immigrants are Mexican I'll say this: The U.S. Government asks one question regarding race now, Hispanic or non-Hispanic. Oh and we get to push 2 for Spanish. Yes, I'm sure that much of this is the result of legal immigration, but don't forget we had an influx of illegal immigrants prior to '86 who must be considered when one looks to determine the total number of criminal immigrants we might expect to enter the country over a period of time. We might also compare these numbers in our attempts to determine just how much Reagan's Amnesty gift helped or hurt us in our attempts to regulate immigration since.
Tune, do you REALLY think the immigration debate was the only thing worth discussing tonight.
we have a freakin' GENERAL heading up the CIA, with the cojones to not retire. no one sees a problem here?

One of my Senators, Levin said he voted yea because the guy promised to act independently of the administration - something like that.
I usually like Levin. (He really grills them at the hearings.) I didn't like him this week tho cause of his vote Thursday but my gal, Stabenow, came through.
Anyway, when I heard his 'splaination I said "whaa??"
Goodnite everyone.
It is clearly not a solution to hide the number of individuals illegally entering or staying in the United States each year by increasing the number of immigrants allowed in to outrageously high numbers as appears to be the best solution that the Senate could come up with. My son use to think that all you had to do if you ran out of money was to right a check. Now, this isn't exactly righting a check as my son would have suggested but it amounts to pretty much the same thing. Hide the numbers daddy.

The Sierra Club is "primarily a non-party affiliated Democrat ..."
The contradiction in that statement almost makes sense in a nonsensical sort of way.
Are you talking about the same Sierra Club which was started by John Muir?
Wasn't Teddy R a Pug?

looks good on paper, and enforces the concept that law breaking is not to be accepted..
however.... what chance is there that the USA could deport 11 million people, all of whom would undoubtedly lay claim to refugee status and would demand a hearing? by law they would have to get their hearing. Would cost many billions, and take many decades.
Also, the idea of having them jailed there is a total non-starter. first, that would justify their refugee claim, since one of the base claims for that status is the threat of imprisonment for political or other unjust reasons. They left cuz they thought the government sucked. leaving the country is not illegal, the way they entered the USA is but only in USA. So they broke no law there, jail is off the table.
I actully wrote a couple fairly long posts in this morning's open thread on just this topic, the possible options and the results of each.. rather than repost, read here and here

actually the CIA thing is a huge issue too.. however it is a potentially short-lived one, congress can out him first time he screws up.. and if the pugs lose 2008, as we expect them to, he will be replaced unless he is in fact doing what he's supposed to do.

You are absolutely right. When Reagan took office as governor in California in 1967, we started seeing homeless people on the streets. He closed all the alcohol treatment facilities (state hospitals).
Before Reagan we saw huge public works projects relating to water and irrigation. After he took office, nothing.
Our universities were almost free of charge until Reagan and the repugs ruined everything. Now a student pays an arm and a leg. When I was graduated from UC Berzerkly in 1959 I paid something like $72 in fees. Books were $5-$10.
I didn't have to take out a student loan to attend.
The Quality of life changed dramatically.
hey dump. ah yes i remember it well. i was in california when reagan announced and thought it was a big joke.but the joke was on me. and you guys had the best state u system in the world till that pig got his hands on it.

I agree that Teddy Roosevelt was one of the old line republicans. Dwight D. Eisenhower was another. He was a great President. During his administration, he stopped the Korean war. He stated that war was not the way to settle our problems because less than ten years earlier we had just come out of WWII. He was not a chicken hawk like Bush who never showed up. He was Allied Supreme Commander in Europe and had first hand knowledge of the effects and the devastation of war.
During his two terms:
He started the Interstate Highway System.
Detroit for the first time turned out 1 mllion automobiles.
He's the one that warned us about these bastards
in the war mongering corporations making big bucks on war.
I am sure there are many more great things he did.
The neocon repugs of today are all a bunch of selfish bastards only interested in themselves and their corporate employers. Also they are a bunch of cheap bastards unless it is for their benefit.

That thing about Reagan just occurred to me since I have been on this blog. California was a great place to live. Looking back this all became clear.
Then Ronnie went on to become President and spread his bullshit to the whole nation. It's really scary. A lot of the people in King BushI and King BushII administrations are retreads from Ronnies administration. Vice Chimp is one of them. The country has gone down hill ever since. We just have to get rid of all vestiges of these administrations if we are to return this country to the greatness we had before 1967. It will take years but I think we can do it.
dump, i feel like you and i may be parallel travelors in this mess that has been made of america. if my memory serves me well shirely temple black was also running for something that summer of love..? and also as a conservative nut.
reagan's bullshit was followed and supported by jarvis's tax bullshit which also became national and has led to wonderful things like selling kids brain rotting sodas in schools to grub spare change to buy football uniforms and watching the country's infrastructure of bridges and roads and parks rot.
the main concepts behind all of this was that "greed is good" and "the future is not your responsibility" and the poor are to blame for all the world's problems.
I think it is really important to have a great president. People like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln. Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower and William Clinton only come along once in a generation. I remember that no matter what congress or president they almost always worked together, negotiated and worked out their differences for the good of the American people.
Ronnie, King BushI and King BushII did not even come close to the qualities we need in our leaders. Reagan never did negotiate with Congress. It was always a battle and a confrontation to get HIS legislation through. King Bush II has them p**sy whipped and they walk lock-step with him in everything that is bad for America.
We must get back to the way it was or America is going to go down the tubes.
Posted by gregg on May 27, 2006 at 07:53 AM
Gregg we sure think alike. What are we going to do about it? It's shameless the way things are going.
I remember during the Reagan years the Federal Government was always living under the threat of shutting down because Reagan didn't agree with the budget Congress worked out. Every year Reagan would butt heads with Congress saying "I won't sign it. Take it back and do it over." I think it got to the point of shutting down several times. We couldn't pay our employees. He didn't care. He had his.
Talking about infrastructure, Reagan also cut most federal programs in the 1980's to pay for his damn military-industrial complex bullshit. As a result, all public works structures are going to hell and nothing is being repaired. Remember when we built great bridges and dams and other major public works projects. It was mind boggling. I was looking at my Civil Engineering magazine recently and I noted this beautiful cable stayed bridge built somewhere in Asia. Then I realized we haven't built anything like this since the neocons have taken over.
We just have to wake up. The public votes their pocketbook and their religion.
Bush II spends more on defense than the whole world combined. It's shamefull. In the meantime people all over the world are suffering and we aren't doing shit to improve their lot.
we have to be as loud about what we believe and as consistent in getting out message out as the religious nuts, the greed worshipers and the war mongering chicken hawks.
our message needs to be clear and resonate with people who i believe are truely concerned for the future and what it holds for their kids and grandkids but who have come to feel lost and impotent.
Watch this and be moved to new and deeper shock and awe at the degree to which Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Powell, and the rest LIED to get America into a war in Iraq. Lied!
http://www.peacecandy.com/gwbush/remindus/
Listen to Bush's voice and hear the intonations of pathological prevarication and be reminded anew at the outrages perpetrated upon our nation's men and women in uniform
Listen to Bush's tap dancing later in the piece while he entrenches himself more deeply into the original lie about WMD.
Finally, be reminded of the complicit Congress, Democrats included, who failed in their duties of debate, fact finding, and oversight, failures that now have cost the U.S. tens of billions of dollars and thousands of precious lives.
Never in the history of America has a government top to bottom failed the People so abjectly and so miserably.
Justice is coming. Count on it.
We the People are going to redeclare our independence.

What's good for Bill Gates...
by lesliet
Sat May 27, 2006 at 07:04:17 AM PDT
A story in Salon today (subscription or watching ad required) says that the Senate has added a provision to their version of the immigration reform bill to increase the number of H-1B visas from 65,000 to 115,000, with provision for further increases in subsequent years. H-1B visas are the visas used to admit technical workers to the U.S. According to the article, this increase is not based on any survey showing a shortage of technical workers available in the U.S., but mostly on lobbying efforts by Bill Gates and other high-tech companies who are looking to import a cheaper labor force. For as we all know, there are lots of high-tech workers in the U.S. who were laid off in recent years that are still looking for jobs.
A few quotes below the fold.
lesliet's diary :: ::
Generally, industry lobbyists are quick with statistics and reports, but in this case it appears they weren't needed. Neither Microsoft nor Intel would reveal how many Ph.D.s or master's students they hired last year, and how many they need for next year. When the companies and their lobbyists were asked what data and reports they showed Congress to convince them of the need for these new visas, they reported that they don't have any reports and statistics. Marcus Courtney, president of WashTech/CWA, a tech workers union, says as long as they have Bill Gates on their side, "they don't need to use anything to substantiate their arguments."
Critics of the bill, mainly academics and those who represent American tech workers, say they have no voice on this issue; that Congress has been blinded by campaign contributions of big companies. In 2004, Microsoft alone spent $9.46 million on lobbying and hired 16 different firms; it listed immigration as one of its top issues on lobbying disclosure forms, according to data from the nonprofit Center for Responsive Politics. That same year, computer and Internet industries spent $70.5 million on lobbying.
"There is no greater case study to understand corporate power in politics," says Courtney of the tech workers union. "I could give you 75 reports that prove that H-1B is a horribly flawed program that hurts American workers, but it doesn't matter. As long as Bill Gates says there's a shortage, and that's it, thanks for playing, game over, try again next session."
I can't tell you how many friends I have who have been out of work in the high-tech field for months or years or more. But these companies are saying that if they can't bring in cheaper workers from overseas, they will simply ship the jobs overseas. So it's a lose-lose situation for American workers.
***
So, now you know why I am so angry about this immigration bill. I knew that the ITAA was pushing for this and it had no basis in reality. I also thought that the Democratic Party finally understood this issue from the 2004 Presidential campaign. Polticians are way too quick to forget. Feinstein almost tried to amend the H1B escalator clause and then she backed off.
There is another chance to make amends when this comes up in the House. I sure hope we do better in the House.
Wal-Mart Declares War on Working Families
by JR Monsterfodder
Sat May 27, 2006 at 06:27:02 AM PDT
Cross-posted at the Writing on the Wal.
If this were a just world, nobody would take Working Families for Wal-Mart seriously. If you don't know, Working Families for Wal-Mart is the name of an organization created with Wal-Mart money to lobby movers and shakers about the "benefits" of Wal-Mart. The New York Times reported a couple of weeks ago that not only does the majority of its Board of Directors have a business relationship with Wal-Mart, the company is pressuring its suppliers to join the group. Perhaps "Oppressed Producers of Cheap Plastic Crap and Fatty Meat for Wal-Mart" would be a better name.
JR Monsterfodder's diary :: ::
Despite the deceptive nature of this organization, its name is instructive. The fact that Wal-Mart wants to identify "Working Families" as the core of its constituency tells us that the company wants to be seen as Populist. It's just like finding out that a group calling itself "Citizens for a Green Planet" is a front for the oil industry. Everybody knows this happens all the time.
Wal-Mart Declares War on Working Families
Walmart for workers? Yeah right and pigs can fly as well. Just another Corporatist front with a deceptive name.
Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, F.B.I. Director Robert S. Mueller III and senior officials and career prosecutors at the Justice Department told associates this week that they were prepared to quit if the White House directed them to relinquish evidence seized in a bitterly disputed search of a House member's office, government officials said Friday.

To: All my Democratic Friends who want to Win Back ALL of Congress this year! I mostly mean the new and old Democratic candidates for Congress.
From: A former Republican who started hating bush right of the batt, and has done nothing but watch bush, his regime, and his Bobble Heads in Congress screw up everything they have touched. Please note; I only gave capital letters to those I respect and deserve capital letters, so do not label me an English dropout, even though you would be right. Please excuse any and all grammar errors and misspelled words.
Dear Candidate,
I have sent many of you emails and letters, in hope of getting you to run campaigns which would assure the take over of Congress by us Democrats. Any American who did not like, or even hated President Clinton for lying about a privet sexual matter while he was President of the United States, should out right hate, and be willing to demand that bush step down. I think bush is by FAR, thee worse President in the history of our Great Country. I personally do not want him impeached, I want him and his regime investigated, charged criminally, and executed for Treason to our Country. They, bush, cheney, and the rest of his regime have done enough harm to earn such a harsh penalty. They have actually done more than enough to earn it. I hope you can see I am on your side, and will not waiver from this devotion. However, we, us Democrats, are dealing with some very intelligent people.
I am not sure why people call karl rove bush’s brain. Maybe because he was key to getting a dumb ass elected President of the United States of America. Someone so stupid, (bush) he could not find his ass with both hands. Yes, I acknowledge karl is a very smart man. However, I feel stronger that cheney is more likely bush’s brain. I have a VCR tape of 9-11, or a day or two after, that shows an interview with bush onboard Air Force One. When he was asked what made him thee most angry that day, bush answered it was not being able to continually talk to cheney while he was in the air, and cheney was underground in a bunker. He was saying he had lots of dropped calls, like the rest of us. :) However, this shocked me, I almost fell out of my chair, but I didn’t. I actually jumped up and screamed at the TV I was so angry. We were under attack, and thee thing that made him the most angry on that whole day, was dropped calls aboard Air Force One? Why in hell did he need to continually talk to cheney, unless maybe, he was way to dam stupid to know what to do? He was NOT on the phone with karl rove, or any other political hack. My Mother, who was sitting beside me when she heard this said, “You Think”, talking about bush being stupid.
I know the court appointed bush president, he did not win the election in 2000, he stole it. In fact, 2000 was thee first time I ever voted for a Democrat. I am sorry to say I did not vote in 2004. Number one, I thought people would not be stupid enough to elect bush fair and squar for a second term. Number two, I really did not like either candidate, and we, my whole family, did not want to have to vote for the best of two sorry ass candidates. We made a huge mistake, as we would later learn. We would later learn just how big of a mistake we had made in 2004. I hope you understand, two bad candidates, who do you vote for??? A second look at Senator Kerry was not that bad, but at the time he sounded to much like bush. He did not seem apposed to bush, I think for fear of being labeled unpatriotic.
A lot of things have come out about how we got into this illegal, unjust, unprovoked, and unneeded WAR. When will America learn we can not, and should not force people to change at the point of a gun? The only people in Iraq that want us to stay, are people who are in one way or another, making money from the United States being in their country. These people want us there as long as we keep paying them, feeding them, giving them free medical care, or in some other way they have a stake in us staying in country, like the current politicians? Wake up America, lets bring our boys home! No one else has to die because mr. bush wanted to kill saddam because he thinks saddam tried to have HIS father killed. No one else has to die because mr. cheney wanted halliburton stock to go through the roof. No one should have ever died so halliburton could make money. Not a little money, not even a LOT of money, we are now talking about this WAR costing a TRILLION DOLLARS! It has already cost over half a TRILLION Dollars, and the cost is going up every day, both in the cost in dollars, and in lives!
The above, is a subject that gets my heart pumping faster than anything I know of, so let me get onto what I wanted to say in this letter. Keep in mind I am now a devoted Democrat for life. I hate the republican party for not standing up to a president who is out of control and gets worse everyday. I would love to say, “no matter what you do”, to Democrats I mean, I will always vote for you. This is why I warned every Democrat I could reach about the immigration Crisis. Make no mistake, there is no question about it, I am not an alarmist, this is a Crisis of Immense Portions! As Democrats we need to face this issue in one way, and only ONE way for the time being, Security First! STOP THE BLEEDING!!! I know most Democrats seem to be where the president is, but for a different reason, but we are being fooled. The president and his corporate masters only want the cheep labor, they want it with no cost to them, or I should say at the lowest price to them as possible.
I really do not know Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut, but I would be willing to bet a million dollars (if I had it) that his career is shot to hell and is over as of this day. That is, if all of what the talking heads on TV are saying about his last minute amendment to the immigration bill are true. As I understand it, Senator Dodd wants the sovereign Nation of the United States of America, to HAVE to (A MUST) coordinate with the Mexican Government before we could build a fence along our southern border. The amendment says we (the USA) MUST consult, and coordinate with the Government of Mexico before we enforce our borders laws. This is insane, do you have any idea how bad this looks and sounds to us Americans, any clue whatsoever? Well, it sounds exactly like what I have been telling every Democratic politician I could reach by email for a long time, at least a month or more.
I have told you if you do not say, I DEMAND, “Security First”, and that president bush MUST demonstrate he is willing and capable of enforcing current border laws, because he has not done so for the last six years, you will lose the upcoming election and any chance you will ever have in politics. All because it sounds like you are standing up for illegal aliens rights, before you are standing up for the everyday Americas lives. You know, the people who vote, and the ones who sent you to Washington DC in the first place. We are the least vocal, least likely to demonstrate, least likely to call you. We will speak with a very loud voice this November, and if we want to win, and win big, bigger than anyone would have thought, we must stand up for Security First. This will pull in all those voters who are regular republicans, but do not like bush. They recognize bush is not a true conservative, he is a war monger who is trashing our country by running up a debt that most people can not imagine, or comprehend.
Bush will sell out America for the benefit of a few. He does not seem to have a problem sending jobs over seas, like trading nuclear technology for mangos, NO, I am not kidding. Like importing unskilled, uneducated illegal aliens, who will work for less than minimum wage, he imports them by NOT enforcing the current border laws, nor will he enforce visa laws. Yes, that’s right, he has not been enforcing our visa laws even though that is how most of the 19 hijackers got into our country. The bush regime seems to love the visa’s for highly educated people, because they will generally work for $15,000.00 dollars less a year than what the same educated American would be paid.
In short the bush regime LOVES big business, the larger the more they LOVE it! The regime loves them so much, he gives them tax breaks when they do not ask for them, need them, or even want them. A lot of tax payers, even those who make big money would be willing to pay more in taxes to try and help bring down the largest deficit in our history. They also want to help in the war effort, to pay for equipment for our brave troops who are being asked to fight in a WAR where you can not tell friend from foe. The troops have been doing the best they can with what they have been given, and should be applauded for it. Because they have had, thee worse leadership in our history, and it starts from the very top and goes down.
At times I am ashamed to be an American, but that is not something I can wash off. I am an American, always have been , always will be. I am doing everything I know how to make America something to once again be proud of. I am proud of 99.9% of our armed service members. As I said, they do the best they can with what they are given. They are our Nations best, they deserve the best from us, the American people. They do not deserve an American president who treats his commander-in-chief roll as if he was some Hollywood tough guy and is never wrong. A leader who constantly refuses to admit when he is wrong, and to then change direction, is a leader who is always doomed to failure. This would also make them an extremely stupid leader.
After reading quite a few notes on our website blog, I must say, I think we are in the majority. The Senate bill, S2611 should die! Let us pray that it does, but to make sure I ask that you copy this, or write your own note to your State’s Democratic candidates. It could help save us. We need to let the Senators know they are being played by rove and cheney, this is another wedge issue. Remember bush does not have to run anymore, and he will do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to make sure we do not win back either house of Congress. Why would they do it, to make dam sure they will not be investigated. They fear the investigation power of either house of Congress more than anything else they can think of. They seem to be making Democrats look like they care more for illegal mexicans than the Americans that sent them to Washington in the first place. You must ask yourself this, are you/we ready to lose all chances of winning control of Congress over this Issue, this ONE Issue, or should we be smart and stand and promote the only safe thing both sides agree on, SECURITY FIRST. I am not saying we can not come back later and address the issue of 12 to 15 million illegal aliens already in our country. I feel that we need to stand for Security First, not just because that is the ONE THING we all agree on, but we can also beat bush, and his bobble heads over the head with the whole problem of illegal aliens When they bring up the, “But Clinton” argument, we need to once again remind them he is no longer President, and President Clinton never started talking about an amnesty that has made millions come in a mad rush to get in before we cut it off. Why haven’t they secured our ports and borders five long years after 9-11? Why was the priority placed on attacking Iraq, a country that apparently was No immediate threat to us but we were falsely lead to believe it was. Why wasn’t the priority on catching bin-laden in Afghanistan, sealing our borders, ports and going after people who have violated their visas? Why is bush and gonzales more concerned with investigating reporters, than charging known employers of illegal aliens? Bush has been using the power of his office for intimidation and personal political gain. How about going after known human traffic smugglers with criminal charges? How about going after known employers of illegal aliens, or people who forge documents for the illegal’s? Almost every fake document I have ever seen is so fake, even an untrained cop like me could tell the difference.
The forgers charge them hundreds of dollars for these fakes and they are worthless for the most part. Unless of course you have an employer who just does not care. I worked my whole career in Phoenix, Arizona, so I have seen a lot of fake papers. I do know for a fact the illegal aliens are litterly killing people, unintended, due to the MASSIVE Burden they are placing on the local schools, and local community hospitals. Due to the fact the schools are over loaded with Spanish only speaking kids, and not enough teachers to go around, kids fall threw bush’s no child left behind gimmick. The older kids just quit, after that it only takes a few months and they are in a gang and are out running the streets getting killed, and killing others. It is truly a horrible sight to see. The bleeding at the border must stop, if it doesn’t the ones who have been born here will never have the chance to catch up. Our social services will never have a chance to catch up. All this talk of amnesty, anything that will make law breakers legal ahead of others who have waited legally will do nothing but fuel a surge for more and more aliens to come here. All this talk will fuel more coming here than can be stopped by nonviolent means. And please, come on, Mexico is not our partner in anything, they are sucking Billions of dollars out of our economy and will do nothing but encourage this type of behavior and we know it.
Once again I ask you to write your States Democratic leaders, and Candidates. Tell them the Bleeding at the border MUST STOP First. After that, we can take our time to figure out what to do with the illegal aliens we already have. I have also told our leaders before no bill, is much better than a BAD BILL, Why? Because it can make our problems much worse. We can see everyday in Iraq what can happen when you do not know what you are doing. We see the unintended consequences of just going ahead with something because it sounds, or looks good on paper. Tell our leaders to Stop this bill!!! Senate bill, S2611 needs to burn, just like most all of bush’s ideas, They SUCK!!!!! Remember, just how many republicans in the Senate who voted for this trashy bill are actually up for re-election this year, how many???
PS: I am Sorry if you do not agree with me. I assure you, no one, NO ONE wants to see Democrats win back both houses of Congress more than me. For the future of our kids, we need to know what bush, cheney, rumsfeld, rice, and others knew about Iraq and when they knew it. I am a firm believer in the very wise saying of, if you do not know your past, you are doomed to repeat it. There are many many times in history where this saying has been proven to be true. We do not want our kids to repeat any of bush’s mistakes, any of them and they are many. So please, stand up for your kids, stand up for the truth, lets take our Party back and beat these bunch of bobble heads in Congress. Anyone wanting to debate, again go to my web address Dwolfaz@netzero.com. As always, Thank You, for taking the time in reading such long drivel. I hope it has charged you up enough to act. I know in my 45 years there has not been a more important Congressional election. Please, Do your Duty as an American citizen and act! Do not sit silenced by the thought that you can not effect the out come of a politicians vote. I promise you, you can have profound effects........
Good Morning, ALL
rj, I just noticed Alberto Gonzales, Attorney General, Abu Ghraib, Aw, Gee...
DPD - Awesome gumption acknowledging giant "AG" associations, guy!!
morning all,
a quick post...an early morning thought
we are in for trying times ahead as america's image is re-lowered abroad. ...overseas is going to rake us over the coals for this this iraqi haditha massacre slaying of 24 civilians by marines and then the iraqi and iran leaders meeting and discussing the nuclear issue, the question will arise...why hasn't american leadership done the same and is pushing europe to sanction iran...
yep, kingbush and his court of corrupt jesters along with his english lap-poodle are very bad karma. and this is all for, to "fight terrorism" = catch osama... according to bullhorn bush on the rubble, we'll get those responsible...dead or alive...then conviently says osama wasn't important to invade iraq instead...to then bring us to the mess i just mentioned above?
Wolf,
I had to go take a break after reading your book.
But you are right.
rj, I just noticed Alberto Gonzales, Attorney General, Abu Ghraib, Aw, Gee...
***
DPD,
You are right - it's a pattern. I hope the creep does resign.
wolf,
Good letter. The Dems need to re-think their position on immigration. We have to stop the Corporatists from cheap labor-ing this nation into a race to the bottom. I am willing to listen to any and all ideas of how to stop them.
I don't think the Senate immigration bill did much to address valid economic concerns and fell way short of addressig security concerns.
I'll continue to support the Dems but they need to think more about workers (both immigrants and citizens).
Some Crazy Things You Might Not Realize.
PROGRESSIVE VALUES
George Bush and Dick Cheney: When George Bush and Dick Cheney ran for president and vice president in 2000, they both claimed to represent a real change from the character problems that plagued the Bill Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky Scandal. However, both Bush and Cheney failed to mention that they were the only ticket ever to run for president in which both had a criminal history.
***
The crooks stole two elections. Now, they are aiding and abetting the Corporate Kleptocracy to steal the nation's wealth. Swell!
"fight terrorism" = catch osama...
***
Osama Bin Forgottin ... Bush never was interested in catching him. If he did, the nation may actually think we won the "war on terror". Then, it would be hard to justify the endless war that feeds the Corporate Kleptocrats at Halliburton, Betchel and others.
By the end, there are some real nice changes to the blog. HTML markup with these buttons works very well. Good job DNC if you out there tuning in to us citizens.

aside from the odd batch of cubans that come in on floating trucks, the mexicans are the only ones who can (and do) sprint across the border.
Posted by Tune on May 27, 2006 at 01:52 AM
Tune, I know this is the next day, but I'm going to reply to this anyway. When I say they are only 20%, I mean they are only 20% of the people who come to this country undocumented, not 20% of the total immigrant population. So it has nothing to do with political correctness whatsoever. Do you really think that our border is being crossed by people who aren't checking in with the government only down in Mexico and that it is only MEXICANS that are coming across THAT border? I'll repeat it one more time...It is estimated that only about 20% of the 12 to 15 million UNDOCUMENTED workers in the U.S. are Mexican. So if you want to talk about immigration, fine. But talk about the whole, and not just a small part.
bbl, gotta bring my truck to the shop for the thired time in a month and a half.
Iraq’s new foreign minister Hoshiyar Zebari said today that while Iraq doesn’t want any of its neighbors to have weapons of mass destruction, Iran has every right “to have scientific and technological abilities to research in the field of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes”, a position unlikely to come as good news to the White House. Iran’s foreign minister, in Baghdad to meet with his Iraqi counterpart, confirmed that his nation’s government has now rescinded its offer to hold direct talks with American officials, complaining that the U.S. had exploited Iran's overtures for propaganda purposes.

Iran has signed the NPT. According to the terms of that agreement, they DO have the right to enrich uranium to a level that is needed for power generation.
I guess the new Iraqi foreign minister shouldn't expect an invitation to dinner at the White House anytime soon. No loss given it's current denizens.
Call Obama, PLEASE!
This is what the fundiwackogeezicals are doing:
Senator Obama opposes Marriage Protection Amendment
Dear fade2bluz,
Senator Barack Obama is expected to vote against the Marriage Protection Amendment which comes up for a vote in the Senate on June 6.
This means he would prefer that a single activist federal judge have the authority to wipe out Illinois' state law that defines marriage as only between one man and one woman.
A vote for the Marriage Protection Amendment is a vote for traditional marriage. A vote against the MPA (which Obama has indicated he will do) is a vote for homosexual marriage by an activist Federal judge.
Senator Obama needs to hear from you today! Call him. If the line is busy, keep calling.
Remember that no matter what Senator Obama says, the bottom line is this: If he votes against the Marriage Protection Amendment, he is voting for the legalization of homosexual marriage by activist judges.
Here are his phone numbers. We suggest you call the District Office if it is a local call, or call the Washington office if no local number is available.
Take Action
Please call Senator Obama today and tell him to vote for the MPA. If his lines are busy, please keep trying. He needs to hear from you personally.
If you have called in the past, please call again and remind the Senator that supporting this amendment is very important to the voters in his state.

Iran Repeats Request for Talks with U.S.
Iran’s ambassador to the U.N. repeated his country’s offer to hold direct talks with the U.S. towards an “easily attainable” solution to the current standoff, saying that Washington’s posturing is only exacerbating the situation. The Bush administration has said that it will not consider direct talks until Iran proves it has halted all nuclear activity; Iran’s ambassador said that, as a precondition for talks, the U.S. must acknowledge his country’s right to peaceful nuclear technology under the non-proliferation treaty. That acknowledgment, the ambassador said, would lead Iran to reconfirm its responsibility not to pursue nuclear weapons, because “from a sober, strategic analysis, Iran's security will be decreased by possession or pursuit of nuclear weapons”.

One Man's Constitutional Crisis ...
The New York Times | Editorial
Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives have achieved an almost unprecedented level of bipartisanship in denouncing the FBI's search of a congressman's office. They talk angrily about the separation of powers and the implications of having an executive branch agency make a foray into a lawmaker's official space. Our first question is where all these concerned constitutionalists have been for the last five years.
Time and time again, Congress has played dead when the executive branch refused to provide it with information, answer questions or follow laws that the legislative branch has passed. Currently, the Senate Judiciary Committee, which has not been the worst offender, is tinkering dangerously with the laws covering domestic wiretapping by the National Security Agency. It could end up endorsing a program that the White House won't even fully describe to a vast majority of lawmakers
Compared with the enormous issues at hand, the matter of Representative William Jefferson is small potatoes.
Mr. Jefferson says there are two sides to every story, although he has not yet offered his. That does not make him guilty - indeed, he is yet to be charged. The House leaders demanded that the seized documents be returned, and the White House ordered them sealed for 45 days to buy time

Pakistani immigrant convicted in New York City subway bomb plot
By TOM HAYS Associated Press Writer
(AP) - NEW YORK-A high school dropout who drew the attention of undercover police with his anti-American rants after Sept. 11 was convicted Wednesday of plotting to blow up one of Manhattan's busiest subway stations in retaliation for the Abu Ghraib prison scandal.
A federal jury in Brooklyn deliberated two days before convicting Shahawar Matin Siraj of conspiracy and other charges in a case that cast a spotlight on how authorities sought to monitor radical Muslims after the 2001 terrorist attacks. He faces up to life in prison.
~snip~
Testifying in his own defense last week, Siraj said he never had a violent thought before he fell under the spell of the 50-year-old Eldawoody. He said the older man became a mentor and instructed him that there was a fatwa, or religious edict, permitting the killing of U.S. soldiers and law enforcement agents.
Eldawoody had himself talked about "blowing up the buildings and blowing up the Wall Street places," the defendant said. He admitted taking steps to attack the subway station, but only after the informant inflamed him by showing him photos of prisoners being abused at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
"I used to just listen to him, but I never said 'Yes, I was going to do it,' or 'no' until the Abu Ghraib thing came up," he said.
I love a little gossip! :)
Coming soon to The New York Times? Globe reports Bush marriage breakup
Media Matters does not endorse the decision by The New York Times, NBC's Tim Russert, MSNBC's Chris Matthews, The Washington Post's David Broder, and countless other elite media figures to take their cues from tabloids like the Globe, or to pry into the personal lives of political figures. But if they are going to do so, we expect them to be consistent.
As it happens, the cover of the May 29 edition of the Globe contains another sensational headline about another high-profile political couple:
BUSH MARRIAGE BREAKUP!
EXCLUSIVE!
SEPARATE LIVES IN THE WHITE HOUSE
Nasty fights
Booze problems

pissing me off, pissing me off again! i understand these people are desperate to distract people from the fact that the country is coming apart at the seams, but i'm starting to take these election year attacks on my civil rights a wee bit personally. i'm so glad to hear that obama plans to vote against it. i'm very interested to see what sen. clinton does.
{{{marsh}}}
my guess is she will support equality. i drove home from the gym this morning, and saw the church down the road is sponsoring a "creation or evolution" event. they are the force behind the reThug machine.
i think they'll impolode, unless the elections are rigged with the machines.
it's great to see you! btw, the same outfit of freaks is campaigning against Ford, for their equality policies. they are so ignorant that they're taking credit for the stock drops.
i'd love to think the war is what people are upset about, but it's gas prices. they don't see past their own noses. the people who have folks over there have a different point of view. i don't understand them, but they hate us for questioning. they do not know that this is costing $60,000 a minute and it's on the credit card.
the economic issues are not sexy like the hatemongering has been in the past. i don't think it will be as effective as it once was, but then, I work with reThugs and reality holds no sway over their opinions.
Shimkus is a Republican from Illinois:
# The Hill : What issues are constituents raising with you?
# Shimkus : Immigration and energy costs are what I'm hearing about most often from constituents.
This is the last post for a little while, since my chores are not doing themselves...darnit! I'll be interested to hear from the bloggers that will be kind enough to acknowledge that the immigration debate is the one that Thugs want us to focus on. It's the new "gay marriage", i believe.
Why? Well, look at the blog the last few nights. Marine won't discuss anything else. He is here to keep us focused on it, and has effectively done so . The legislation will be bouncing back and forth for a long time. The immigrants are not the problem. The Bush Crime family is! That is my humble opinion. What say you? What is the order of importance when it comes to the issues? Let's say, the top ten, top five...voters care most about.....fill in the blank.
cya later, when my house is clean!
{{{Fade}}} good to see you, too.
the reason i'm curious about clinton is that bill had advised kerry in '04 to support the Marriage Protection Amendment.

I still don't understand why it has to be an "either/or" thing with creation and evolution. But then, I can't understand why some people need to take the Christian Bible literally, either...I mean seriously, does it need to be literal truth to have meaning?
I guess it could be like you said, fade....reality holds no sway over their opinions. And they also think they their opinions are fact...maybe because so many are parroting them?
Posted by fade2bluz on May 27, 2006 at 01:37 PM
fade, it's not the "new gay marriage" The reason I know that is because the a**es are doing that one again this year.
But I agree, it is a ploy to keep us from focusing on issues that actually affect all 350 million of us. I mean, come on. Does anyone really know someone who lost their job to an immigrant? IMHO, 3% of the people in this country really aren't affecting our economy in any drastic way. As opposed to the 3% (neo-cons)who are shouting their heads off about the other 3% to distract us while they jam their fists up our....well, you get the picture.
Howdy, again. Just got back from the Farmers Market.
MARSH!!! It's good to see some of the old names again. GregL is back too.
On my Netscape Home Page they have a link to an article titled "The 10 Worst Jobs in Science"
Number 3 is "Kansas Biology Teacher".
ICK!!!
I hope all three resign, but I doubt Bush will make them return any records.
"Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty and FBI Director Robert Mueller --indicated they would resign if forced to give the seized materials back, the officials said."

Afternoon all, been lurking for a while, just now caught up.
heard on NPR that team of scientist found the origin of aids by collecting chimpanzee's poop...
Let's fight for better wages.
..........As more states proceed with minimum wage increases on their own, a new study shows that small businesses grow faster in states with minimum wages above the federal level, which has remained at $5.15 since 1997.........
Surprise! Surprise!
What caught my attention was the fact that small businesses were the beneficiaries. It's simple: raising the minimum wage increases demand for goods. The regressives in Washington are bought and paid for by multi-national corporations so why would they pass laws that would benefit small businesses or poor folks?
THE ENEMY OF SMALL BUSINESS IS BIG BUSINESS!
According to National Geographic, scientists have long suspected that HIV had its in origins in wild chimp populations. But previously SIV had been found only in some captive chimps. The discovery in wild chimps was made by an international research team, which detected SIV antibodies in chimpanzee feces gathered from forests.
I have to ask again, but doesn't anyone find it funny that the date the Marriage Ammendment comes to vote in the Senate is 06-06-06?
