Your challenge this weekend:

Write a Letter to the Editor of your local papers. The DNC tool has some suggested subjects, or you can also write on one of your choosing.

Have a candidate you want to support? A cause? An issue? Don't forget to make your voice heard offline too!

Let's fight for better wages.

..........As more states proceed with minimum wage increases on their own, a new study shows that small businesses grow faster in states with minimum wages above the federal level, which has remained at $5.15 since 1997.........

Surprise! Surprise!
What caught my attention was the fact that small businesses were the beneficiaries. It's simple: raising the minimum wage increases demand for goods. The regressives in Washington are bought and paid for by multi-national corporations so why would they pass laws that would benefit small businesses or poor folks?

THE ENEMY OF SMALL BUSINESS IS BIG BUSINESS!

My letter to the editor will be addressed to the attack on Senator Obama's opposition to the "Defense of Marraige" bill. I am taking a break, but this will be the topic on my mind while I continue redoing my mom's room. It's lookin' good, but lots more to do.

Burnsey, marsh: anything you'd like me to say for you as I address the folks here in Obama country?

I was curious as to who the 15 Senators are who voted against Hayden. Also, someone asked me to come up with ideas for the election campaign. How about the following: "This election is about preserving and protecting the Constitution." This is simple and could resonate with everyone. Just a thought.

6
cam58 on May 27, 2006 at 03:54 PM

fade,

My number one issue is the investigation into why we are at war with Iraq. Nothing is more solemn or serious than warring with another country, and to do so by pre-emptively sending the sons and daughters of America into a foreign country.

Clearly all reasons given, (9/11, WMD, nukes) were either massive intelligence failures or bogus contrivances for nefarious purposes. To insure that this never happens again a thorough and complete investigation must occur. If individuals are found to have deliberately misled a country into war, causing the death of thousands and the financial loss of billions, appropriate sentences should be meted out as a discouragement against this type of behavior.

So when Tweety throws out the question of investigations, remind him of the overlook Republican rubber stamp congress, and the Democrats must investigate because reporters really suck at it.

Actually, I am heading out this afternoon for some shopping (still moving into my apartment and it's quite empty! I have hardly any furniture except a bed and a couch I got from Craig's list!) and later I am meeting a few friends from high school for dinner.

I also had a nice chat with my parents this morning. So it's a little bit of work and a little bit of play.

the republican attack on gays seems to do nothing more than give permission to be intolerant, biased and bigoted.

most refer to the biblical verse in Liviticus 19:22 which says , "do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable

read on and in Leviticus 19 the next few chapters tell us not to cut our hair, or trim our beards or put tattoos on our body.

then we get to chapter 33: When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. 34 the alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. love him as yourself for you were aliens in egypt.

Bruno I sure hope not. If we can get as many rubber-stampers out as possible, there is hope. I really think that getting people registered to vote and then making sure they do is also important. If you have to use electronic voting machines with no paper trail, mark your choices on the sample ballot you get. If there is hanky-panky, then you can say, "I know I voted this way". Just a thought.

Let me start off by saying I think the invasion into Iraq was a colossal mistake.

However, most democrats in congress voted to give Bush the power to invade Iraq and expand that to fight terrorism wherever it may be. Under the constitution this power resides in Congress. If they implement a draft, and the war expands because of additional attacks on our soil, then the line between right and wrong becomes more blurred by our vision of what we want our country to be.

In the case of a draft, the issue becomes a legal one as to serve or not serve. The right answer to that question is more than difficult. Just ask most of those who served in Vietnam.

If radical Islam fascism continues in its objective of total destruction of western democracies, to be replaced with a strict global Islamic Republic, our choices will become more difficult and our options will have to include a draft.

Junior wants to play cowboy with his horsees at the rodeo, so the paper fell into the hands of the womenfolk. The editorials are coming in 50/50 liberal/ignorant. Hopefully we can turn Oklahoma back to the democrats.

37
Oilfieldguy on May 27, 2006 at 06:34 PM

Bruno,
I am a vietnam era veteran, my hubby served in vietnam in 1975.

i understand the difficulty of the choices if a draft is put back into affect.

but this war on/by radical islam fascism is in effect a catch 22....

because we are there, they declare war on the infadels. because we don't understand or value any religion but christianity and judaism, we don't understand how offensive we are.

yet by simply educating and understanding, we could start on the road to avoiding a "religious world war"...

Strong Signs of Rift Among Democrats

Support for a challenger to longtime Sen. Joe Lieberman indicates tensions over Iraq war.

The liberal challenge to Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.) escalated Friday when the political arm of MoveOn.org, an influential online advocacy group, endorsed the political newcomer opposing his bid for renomination.

Gaining the support of MoveOn's political action committee was Ned Lamont, a businessman who wants to unseat Lieberman largely because of the veteran lawmaker's staunch support for the war in Iraq.

Lamont's candidacy also has become a priority for many liberal websites, such as Daily Kos — whose founder, Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, recently appeared in one of Lamont's television advertisements.

With the involvement of these groups, the face-off between Lieberman and Lamont in Connecticut's Aug. 8 primary has emerged as the focal point of tensions between Democratic liberals and centrists over the party's direction.

"This is a fight for the soul of the Democratic Party," said Marshall Wittmann, a senior fellow at the centrist Democratic Leadership Council. "It will have repercussions for the 2008 presidential campaign and whether centrists will feel comfortable within the Democratic Party."

momoaizo, last week Randi Rhodes was talking about when she went on Larry King's show with three Repubs and one of them kept trying to get her to agree that the Iraqis "are evil". She wouldn't do it. On her show the next monday when she was talking about it, she told the story of Jessica Lynch whom the Bush administration tried to make into this big war fighting hero that emptied her weapon before she was captured. The truth was she passed out in the car wreck and never fired a shot. And the way the US military found her was by an Iraqi "Good Samaritan" who worked in the hospital she was being treated at telling them where she was. So Randi asked, "Are these the people I'm supposed to think of as evil?"

I don't know where you get your numbers but here is the Senate and House vote totals.

The Senate voted 77-23 to authorize President Bush to attack Iraq if Saddam Hussein refuses to give up weapons of mass destruction as required by U.N. resolutions.

Hours earlier, the House approved an identical resolution, 296-133.

This vote opened the door for the president to invade Iraq.

lets please keep in mind that the vote for war was made based on "evidence" that was only later proved to be false.

Not to dismiss failures to ask more questions or observe logic.. but one must keep in mind the climate of the day, where the threat of imminant nuclear attack was implied by the same president who, only a short time previous to that, stated an attack by anthrax was about to happen. And he was correct. The real debate on this topic should revolve around this government keeping the facts surrounding it's most suspicious failures secret. For example, the way they refuse to this day to release all info related to the anthrax when high government involement is highly suspected.. or FAA reports on 9/11 failures to respond according to established policy, when what they have released has been proven bogus.. or the redacted pages of the 9/11 commission report... or... I am sure i could find a couple hundred other things to list here.

So here we sit, arguing over who voted for this war of lies and profit, when any congress that was actually on the ball would be demanding hand cuffs and criminal investigations for treason rather than perpetuating the lie in an effort to save political face...

Until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned; that until there are no longer first class and second class citizens of any nation; that until the colour of a man's skin is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes; that until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all, without regard to race; that until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but fleeting illusions, to be pursued but never attained.

the concept of "blanket legalization" is a bit confusing and confused.

First, I don't think it was proposed by anyone here or in congress to grant such immunity to prosecution in perpetuity.. eg those here today are not mentioned in the same breath as those who come tomorrow..

Second, I think anyone wanting discuss the topic should first think long and hard on the implications - and consequences - of making legal targets of many millions of people. The concept of bringing them to justice, while noble in the context of the law, is simply beyond the ability of the system to carry out. We have already seen a small sample of the demonstrations and anger the line of reasoning has generated, and this just from talking about it. Trying to actually do it would quickly become a civil war. This has to be, and has been, concidered by congress.

Granted many parts of their alternative seem to be utter bullshit, and seem targeted to give further favor to the corporate. I postulate the theory that the entire immigration issue is a red herring, a distraction, and also a symptom of the real illness which shows itself as a common thread in every issue facing the nation today - the power of the corporate to ammend the constitution and dictate policy in the name of profit.

Try following the legalization leaders like Navito Lopex. Even Senator Feinstien (sp) proposed an amendment, which was voted down, to grant a path to citizenship to 11-12 million illegal immigrants.

I don't believe that is a reality even though most aren't seeking it. By your thoughtful statements I guess you missed much of the debate here.

If the criteria for avoiding civil war is open borders then it will not be avoided. The issues of sustainability have to be factored in. Water systems, public schools, county hostpital costs, landfills, housing etc.etc.

By examining the process for bringing family members in after receiving a greencard the totals according to several studies commissioned by congress would put the total at 93-100 million, nearly one-third of the total population in the next 20 years.

I need to step out for a while. I'll leave you two sources, one conservative and one liberal, that explore the numbers in great detail. If you have time I think you'll find the research worthwhile.

Liberal Source

Bruno on May 27, 2006 at 09:01 PM

Who said anything about opening the borders for free immigration?

It seems to me they are looking to streamline the legal variety, while attempting to stem the illegal type. the two are vastly different, unlike the old west "homesteading" concept legal immigration works towards placing the person where the benefit is a two way street as opposed to having them drop anchor first place they can generate some coin.

As for the civil war bit, I stand by it. finding and deporting millions who have become adept at flying under the radar is a daunting task. You cant do it without infuriating millions more who are here legally, and who came here to escape the same oppression as most of those not here legally.
In the past two months we have seen violence in schools and massive demonstrations and rallies in the streets just from TALKING about it. Making it law will antagonize that situation. such is human nature, especially when fueled by something called "culture clash".
Yes there is a percentage that are here as part of a crime system. A small percentage of the total. the rest are here because to survive one needs to eat.

And that said, I am moving off this topic because I have had my say and am now just repeating myself.

Posted by Bruno on May 27, 2006 at 07:32 PM

I can see someone is confused here. I get my numbers from the roll call vote and I will walk you through this. Focus only on the Democratic legislators votes.

In the House 81Y 126N

In the Senate 29Y 21N

That's 110 Democratic votes for the war in Iraq

And 147 Democratic votes against the war in Iraq

For a total of 257 votes or...dang Bruno, you busted me gettin all fast and loose with my figgers, 57% of Democrats voting against the war in Iraq.

Anyone care to do the math on the rubber stamp Republicans?

77

When did the democrats get 50 Senators?

Altering the reality of failure

by Mark Mellman

~snip~

Only one other action the president could take before November has any possibility of producing a meaningful upturn in Bush’s ratings — a major troop withdrawal from Iraq. Many have been speculating about this possibility for months. With the increasing violence there, from the perspective of the president’s policy arguments, a withdrawal seems even less likely than it did a few months ago. But the political dynamics may be more compelling than the policy ramifications.

The logic is simple, if cynical. No president with approval ratings under 50 percent has lost fewer than the 15 seats Democrats need to retake the House. A Democratic House would make life more difficult for the president by setting a different agenda, one more in tune with public preferences. The only way to raise those approval ratings and help prevent a Democratic takeover is to withdraw troops from Iraq. It is hard to imagine any other policy change or scheduled event in the next six months that is capable of producing a meaningful increase in the president’s ratings — which brings them back to withdrawal.

[October Surprise?]

Has anybody read this over at Media Matters?

It's really long rant about the Republicans kewl, Democrats icky meme rampantly running through the corporate media. On point is the NYT front page pantysniffing article on HillBill. This is seen as okiedokie to do to Democrats.

But Maverick, straight talker McCain is an authentic Murkin. It's not worth mentioning his several affairs before he divorced his first wife only to marry a rich socialite a month later to catapault him into his career as a political insider.

Not worth mentioning these days McCain must've drifted away from his current wife, as he was unaware she has turned into a degenerate drug abuser, who bought her dope by stealing from a charity she had set up.

I hadn't heard about it either, but I'm not married to the junkie. These petty one-way cheap shots against dems have got to stop. If sex lives are okay to air on the front pages, and then drool over on the talking head shows, then let's be fair about it. The Republicans are the party of abstinence, right?

So let's check out Cindasleezy Rice shall we? Is she really the master of her domain, or is that shetland pony rumor true? I don't believe a word about the pony stories I keep hearing, but there out there, right Cokie Roberts? Does Harriet Miers have the some exotic tastes?

Whenever you come across this stuff, through it back in their faces. We have to let the corporate media know we are not going to tolerate this anymore. End of rant.

Dawnie on May 27, 2006 at 10:39 PM

Hi, everyone.

I have to be a drive by poster tonight, too.

I found this passage from Bob Herbert's column to dynamic. It sums up a situation that no one in the media or political circles wants to face. It could be the defining issue of our time. Social unrest and revolutions have been started for a lot less. Are the Republicans sitting on a time bomb?

"A chapter in "The Disposable American" details the plight of exquisitely trained airline mechanics who found themselves laid off from jobs that had paid up to $31 an hour. Mr. Uchitelle writes: "Not enough jobs exist at $31 an hour — or at $16 an hour, for that matter — to meet the demand for them. Jobs just don't materialize at cost-conscious companies to absorb all the qualified people who want them."

The most provocative question raised by Mr. Uchitelle is whether the private sector is capable of generating enough good jobs at good pay to meet the demand of everyone who is qualified and wants to work.

If it cannot (and so far it has not), then what? If education and training are not the building blocks to solid employment, what is? These are public policy questions of the highest importance, and so far they are being ignored.

It'a not the republicans fault if people are dumb

People registering to vote or signing petitions at Orange County shopping centers are entrusting their personal information to unregulated signature gatherers, some with rap sheets for child molestation, prostitution, methamphetamine use and immigrant smuggling, an Orange County Register investigation found.

"Half the (petitioners) are crack- or meth-heads. It's to get cash for their next fix," said Lynn Litheredge, a petition and voter registration circulator from Las Vegas who has worked on and off in Orange County for two years.

In a world where new Republican registrations pay up to $8 apiece and each name on a petition brings at least $1, signature gatherers have grown creative in chasing down the ka-ching. The industry is especially hot in California, where petition drives tripled in recent years in an effort to take democracy to the streets.

We just had a bunch of these crooks register people as Republicans after the people told them they wanted to register as Democrats. Now they can't vote in the Deomcratic primary.

Ricker said it's OK to hire ex-criminals to collect sensitive information, as long as they no longer break any laws.

"People pay their debt to society. (They) make mistakes, and they pay for their mistakes," he said. "I don't think I have any murderers in my crew."

Ricker's crew does include 23-year-old Jessica Sundell, a former methamphetamine addict and ex-prostitute who went by the street name "Cupcake."

Eight people registered by Sundell complained to local election officials or the Register, including Tamara Vravis, 37, of Anaheim. Vravis said she was switched from the Democratic Party to Republican without her consent.

Vravis learned from a reporter that she had also given her personal information to someone once saddled with a $50-a-day meth habit.

"I'm not happy right now," Vravis said. "I will never sign another petition."

Sundell, who said she tried prostitution only once, denied flipping Vravis, or anyone else.

"The reason they switched (parties) was they wanted to help me get money," said Sundell, who lives in a Fullerton motel. "I'd say, 'I get a bonus for marking this as Republican. You don't have to vote that way and you can always change it later.'"

"Maybe the work pool we had to pull from aren't the best people you want out there," said Randall, who fired two signature gatherers because they "weren't the quality of the people that I felt should be out there representing the Republican Party."

Randall's standards come despite his own past: He pleaded guilty in 2002 to molesting two girls under the age of 14, one of them the daughter of an associate in the petition business.

Heck, I'm mad that nobody in the media will mention the over 20 years of business conections between Ken Lay, Enron, and Junior. You know darn well that if it was a Democrat president they'd never shup-up about it.

dpd i figure you are out there taking a meat ax to the remaining snausages and embers on the bbq grill before they rise up and devour you...so back to beer. had a young relative --25--come by with her boyfriend who was said to be a beer drinker...so i get a six pack of beck's dark and one of light....he says "gotta bud?" i offer the beck's and he chooses not to have anything.

another similar situation. in this one the guy uses his cell phone to call someone else on their way over to pick up coors silver bullets...i was offering heineken...

go figure, kids today, can't buy em a drink, can't drink what they're buyin....

and that would be my contribution for tonite...oh and nice punk out by bush...when staff threaten to quit one usually tells them not to let the door hit them in the ass...etc.

but bush is on bended knees,
saying stay with me,
stay with me,
please?

that is just wrongggggg about the Heineys! I don't even drink beer and even I know that's about as good as it gets in the U.S.

I think I remember St. Paulie Girl also being a good dark beer?

or was that only in the 70's? LOL

here is the kerry story. it is in sunday's ny times:

By KATE ZERNIKE
Published: May 28, 2006
John Kerry starts by showing the entry in a log he kept from 1969: "Feb 12: 0800 run to Cambodia."

Graphic: Kerry's New Evidence He moves on to the photographs: his boat leaving the base at Ha Tien, Vietnam; the harbor; the mountains fading frame by frame as the boat heads north; the special operations team the boat was ferrying across the border; the men reading maps and setting off flares.

"They gave me a hat," Mr. Kerry says. "I have the hat to this day," he declares, rising to pull it from his briefcase. "I have the hat."

Three decades after the Vietnam War and nearly two years after Mr. Kerry's failed presidential bid, most Americans have probably forgotten why it ever mattered whether he went to Cambodia or that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth accused him of making it all up, saying he was dishonest and lacked patriotism.

But among those who were on the front lines of the 2004 campaign, the battle over Mr. Kerry's wartime service continues, out of the limelight but in some ways more heatedly — because unlike then, Mr. Kerry has fully engaged in the fight. Only those on Mr. Kerry's side, however, have gathered new evidence to support their case.

With Illegal Immigrants Fighting Wildfires, West Faces a Dilemma

By KIRK JOHNSON
Published: May 28, 2006
SALEM, Ore. — The debate over immigration, which has filtered into almost every corner of American life in recent months, is now sweeping through the woods, and the implications could be immense for the coming fire season in the West.

As many as half of the roughly 5,000 private firefighters based in the Pacific Northwest and contracted by state and federal governments to fight forest fires are immigrants, mostly from Mexico. And an untold number of them are working here illegally.

Study Finds No Cancer-Marijuana Connection

By Marc Kaufman
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, May 26, 2006; Page A03

The largest study of its kind has unexpectedly concluded that smoking marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer.

The new findings "were against our expectations," said Donald Tashkin of the University of California at Los Angeles, a pulmonologist who has studied marijuana for 30 years.

"We hypothesized that there would be a positive association between marijuana use and lung cancer, and that the association would be more positive with heavier use," he said. "What we found instead was no association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect."

gregg,

never to late...kerry needs to expose this rove-cult. i shook my head in disgust after 2004... how could america ever buy an absentee-national-doggin'-bar-stool-drunk as strong on terrorism vs someone who actually saw combat and witnessed carnage and weak on terrorism? i still am perplexed. i guess middle america is that stupid.

Bruno, Billy Bob, and Driftwood were all still in the military when Woodstock hit. They did tell me some wild stories from the Atlanta pop festival in 1970. They met people with strange names like Sandoz, Purple Micro Dot, and Orange Sunshine.

They said the night started off with the Allman Brothers Band, Johnny Winters, then Winters jammed with the Allmans, followed by Canned Heat and 10 Years After, then Hendrix on the 4th of July doing the national Anthem.

Dawnie

I work for Driftwood and I do HDTV editing. Bruno & Billy Bob are cousins and they grew up from elementary school through HS with Driftwood. They all enlisted under the buddy system.

They have all been Democrats since the early 70's including Driftwood who was McGovern delegate. About the only subject I can tell you guys disagree on is illegal immigration.

One subject doesn't make a person a troll from a different party.

Can you OBJECTIVELY think of anything other than illegal immigration where their opinion is different from most on this board.

194
Dawnie on May 28, 2006 at 12:48 AM

for quite a few years now, have been reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series....

in it there is a nation of people made up of different kingdoms, called "Borderlanders". They use the phrase "peace" in regular conversation.

when asked why they use "Peace" in this way the reply was that when all you know is battle against the shadow (what they call evil), the word also becomes a talisman - a wish for the future...

198
WildBill on May 28, 2006 at 12:53 AM

lizzy,

i remember the My Lai in the papers. it was a big embarrassment to the united states. the reports later said the stress those soldiers faced was uphill and increasing on every patrol. we lost a lot of world goodwill. in Habitha it's being repeated. watching an interview last nite, and a comment made by an ex-military guy that kingbush has learned nothing, planned nothing, and was surrounded by soundbytes he wanted to hear with the full intent to go to iraq. so history repeats itself. we'll take a big hit with world opinion as this develops. even if it proves to be an isolated incident, the damage is done.

199
america1st on May 28, 2006 at 12:54 AM

lizzy,

i posted this earlier (msnbc)

“America in the view of many Iraqis has no credibility. We do not believe what they say is correct,” said Sheik Sattar al-Aasaf, a tribal leader in Anbar province, which includes Haditha. “U.S. troops are a very well-trained and when they shoot, it isn’t random but due to an order to kill Iraqis. People say they are the killers.”

I just had to post the best most touching speech,I have ever heard.John Kerry spoke at American University on Thursday, May 11 about patriotism and dissent at a time of war and the assault on free speech in America today. Video; http://www.johnkerry.com/video/flash/051106_speech.html "I know that some active duty service members, some veterans, and certainly some politicians scorned those of us who spoke out, suggesting our actions failed to "support the troops"--which to them meant continuing to support the war, or at least keeping our mouths shut. Indeed, some of those critics said the same thing just two years ago during the presidential campaign.

I have come here today to reaffirm that it was right to dissent in 1971 from a war that was wrong. And to affirm that it is both a right and an obligation for Americans today to disagree with a President who is wrong today, policies that are wrong today, and a war in Iraq that weakens the nation.

I believed then, just as I believe now, that the best way to support the troops is to oppose a course that squanders their lives, dishonors their sacrifice, and disserves our people and our principles.

I believed then, just as I believe now, that it is profoundly wrong to think that fighting for your country overseas and fighting for your country's ideals at home are contradictory or even separate duties. They are, in fact, two sides of the very same patriotic coin. And that's certainly what I felt when I came home from Vietnam convinced that our political leaders were waging war simply to avoid responsibility for the mistakes that doomed our mission in the first place." http://www.johnkerry.com/

I saw a report earlier (Saturday evening) that there wasn't much of a reaction from Iraqis, at least not yet, to the Habitha incident......last fall right?......because they think Americans do this all the time so nothing's new.

As fun as this is, I'm falling aleep.

Just before the Kent State incident, my sister Robin ran away. I was in my senior year of high school and we would go out and drive around at night looking for her.

After the Kent State shootings, the Miami Herald had on it's front page the picture of the girl laying face down, dead. The girl on her knees behind her with her arms raised in the air, caught for eternity in a cry of rage....was also a runaway from Miami (not my sister)...

I remember how scared that made us. There had already been scenes of police beating and gasing kids protesting in chicago...in our nations capital...it seemed as if civilization were on the edge of breaking down and blowing away....

216
PeppermintLizzy on May 28, 2006 at 01:40 AM

Don't know how to link the music yet, but here's the lyrics....

Chicago/We Can Change the World
Graham Nash 1971
Though your brother's bound and gagged
And they've chained him to a chair
Won't you please come to Chicago
Just to sing
In a land that's known as freedom
How can such a thing be fair
Won't you plaese come to Chicago
For the help we can bring
We can change the world -
Re-arrange the world
It's dying - to get better
Politicians sit yourself down,
There's nothing for you here
Won't you please come to Chicago
For a ride
Don't ask Jack to help you
Cause he'll turn the other ear
Won't you please come to Chicago
Or else join the other side
We can change the world -
Re-arrange the world It's dying - if you believe in justice
It's dying - and if you believe in freedom
It's dying - let a man live it's own life
It's dying - rules and regulations, who needs them
Open up the door
Somehow people must be free
I hope the day comes soon
Won't you please come to Chicago
Show your face
From the bottom to the ocean
To the mountains of the moon
Won't you please come to Chicago
No one else can take your place
We can change the world -
Re-arrange the world
It's dying - if you believe in justice
It's dying - and if you believe in freedom
It's dying - let a man live it's own life
It's dying - rules and regulations, who needs them
Open up the door

Well, come on mothers throughout the land,
Pack your boys off to Iraq-nam.
Come on fathers, don't hesitate,
Send 'em off before it's too late.
Be the first one on your block
To have your boy come home in a box.

I like the theme of old lyrics showing how we have come full circle.. Here's my contribution:

Generals gathered in their masses,
just like witches at black masses.
Evil minds that plot distruction,
sorcerers of deaths construction.
In the fields the bodies burning,
as the war machine keeps turning...
death and hatred to man kind,
poisoning their brainwashed minds.

oh lord ya...

Politicians hide them selves away...
they only started the war..
why should they go out to fight,
they leave peril to the poor...

oh lord ya...

and your concrete mountains are blocking out the skies..
Now i don't say that you've been telling me lies,
But why do i hear those children's cries?
I'm a stranger here, i'm just looking around...
I see the aeroplane thats carrying the bombs
while you dig to find people to drop them on
you know you cant keep what you take by force,
but it's only my first impression of course....

Good Morning, ALL

It looks like little Georgie's Theocracy in Bloom is going swimmingly.

(snip)

The fresh violence came amid rising fears in the Iraqi capital that extremists seeking to force Baghdad residents to follow strict Islamic practices were now targeting men in shorts, liquor stores and even barbers. Gunmen in recent months have even killed people drinking beer along the banks of the Tigris river.

Last week, gunmen in Baghdad stopped a car carrying a Sunni Arab tennis coach and two of his Shiite players, asked them to step out and then shot them.

Extremists have been distributing leaflets warning people in the mostly Sunni neighborhoods of Saidiyah and Ghazaliyah not to wear shorts, police said.

It seems that in 1972 Kissinger was kissing China's ass. He told the Chinese leader that we wanted to pull out of South Vietnam but that China should give us a little slack so that we don't lose face. In the meantime, between 1972 and 1975, about 2000 Americans died while they were fiddling. Click on my name for the full story. The repugs were really backpeddling.

OLYMPIA, Washington — Nine more people were arrested in protests against the delivery of Iraq-bound military vehicles to the Port of Olympia, bringing the total arrested to 16 in three days, police said.

Demonstrators blocked a street to prevent a convoy from reaching the port Wednesday. In contrast to the quiet arrests of six people Tuesday and one Monday, scuffling, shouting and screaming arose as some protesters were carried to a van.

GOP Heavy Hitters Pressuring White House to Talk With Iran
Submitted by davidswanson on Sat, 2006-05-27 22:45. Iran
By Laura Rozen, Los Angeles Times

Washington - Amid concern that the US is drifting toward eventual confrontation with Iran, a growing number of influential statesmen, Republican senators and foreign policy experts are stepping up pressure on the Bush administration to consider doing what no US administration has done in 27 years: talk directly with Iran.

In recent congressional hearings, think-tank conferences, op-ed essays and media appearances, Republican heavyweights - including former Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Richard G. Lugar (R-Ind.) and Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) - have publicly urged the administration to leave the current path of escalation and join European allies in direct talks with Tehran.

The public campaign parallels private efforts by GOP insiders, foreign policy specialists and US allies abroad to influence the thinking of key administration officials, including Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Elliott Abrams, who oversees Iran policy at the National Security Council. Both have met recently with foreign diplomats and outside experts and have discussed US diplomacy with Iran.

The following is my Rant for the Day!

In reading Crashing the Gate, I now understand that one of the Main REasons for the Republican's sucess has been that each Special Interest Republican (for instance, Conservative Christians), have been willing to set aside their individual interest for the Common Goad and sucess of the Party. The know that the Party's Ultimate Sucess, is their sucess.

the Democrats on the other hand, refuse to get past their own Individual Interests. NARAL, GLBT, Sierra, etc, all demand that their issues take top priority. So in the End, the party does not win, and they don't win.

I, from this day on, shall put my own Individual Interest on the sidebar, work to get this party into office, and then put pressure on getting my Interests accomplished.

If we could all only do that, what a Strong United, unbeatable party this would be!!!

Howdy All! A fine weekend in full swing. Golf yesterday; Sprinsteen doing Seeger last night; gardening for mom today; planing my tomoatoes tomorrow with the new moon.

Hate to disturb this bliss, but two articles in today's Globe give abundant testimony to Bush's twisted notion of what democracy is all about; here at home and abroad where he believes he has the right to install it:

why veto?

Cheney aide is screening legislation
Adviser seeks to protect Bush power

WASHINGTON -- The office of Vice President Dick Cheney routinely reviews pieces of legislation before they reach the president's desk, searching for provisions that Cheney believes would infringe on presidential power, according to former White House and Justice Department officials.

The officials said Cheney's legal adviser and chief of staff, David Addington , is the Bush a dministration's leading architect of the ``signing statements" the president has appended to more than 750 laws. The statements assert the president's right to ignore the laws because they conflict with his interpretation of the Constitution.

Gunmen kill coach, 2 tennis players
Slain for wearing shorts, officials say

BAGHDAD -- An Iraqi tennis coach and two of his players were killed because they were wearing shorts, apparently in violation of a warning by Islamic extremists.

Better under Bush's democracy?

Electing Democrats into Congress will tell Congress that their jobs aren't safe.

Electing Democrats into Congress will tell Congress that they are not above the law.

Electing Democrats will tell Congress that the Republicans cannot cut taxes for the wealthy and spend, spend, spend and spend some more.

Hi Larry,

The problem is that those who get angry here over an issue important to them not getting full attention, is that they do not realize yet, that if they help get this party, from local level right on up, into power, they can only win from it.

For instance, this book goes into what happened in RI when the Dems had a really good shot at getting Chaffee out. The Dem candidate was strong, only thing was he was anti-abortion. NOW and NARAL would not back him. They put money and ads into Chafee instead. What happened was Chaffee got back in and has been voting Party line right along, for Far-Right judges who are out to get rid of Abortion! Where the Dem candidate, would never have had the chance to vote against Roe v Wade, because it will not come up in the Senate, and would have almost assuredly voted party line on things like these Judges that the Republicans are furiously trying to get placed!

So when you look at issues from this line, it puts a different slant on it.

Now does that mean I will sit back and help Lieberman? NO, because the Democrat up against him is Far more Democratic than Joe is. I have watched Joe for all the years he has been in office here. I have talked to his aides on the phone. Joe is stubbornly out for his own interests, at whatever cost to our party, our State, our Country, the World! Joe is not a Democrat.

Len Hart: 'The method and the madness of King George'

Like Ashcroft, Gonzales favors greater executive branch secrecy. Like Ashcroft, Gonzales favors the centralization of presidential power -- as well as its expansion. Indeed, Gonzales provided the legal arguments used to claim that the president has the power, under the Constitution, to order torture, despite the fact that torture violates the Geneva Conventions and other international agreements the United States has ratified and implemented.

According to Gonzales -- and to Ashcroft before him -- even judicial review to determine whether the facts support the "enemy combatant" designation should not occur. Gonzales, like Ashcroft, believes that the president's -- and attorney general's -- kingly power trumps even some of the most prized of American's basic rights, the rights to physical liberty, and to due process of law.

The republican political strategists are trying to turn the November election into a referendum on immigration.

Our message this fall should be empowerment and revenge...just like what the networks have been selling with their "reality" shows for the last few seasons.

So we tell the electorate that they, too, can now be one of the rich and powerful like Donald Trump or Simon Cowell. You can cast your vote to "fire" someone and knock them off the program. Doesn't matter if you're as dizzy as Paula or as hip as Randy, you are in control.

And if there ever was a program that needs people voted off, it's this Repubican-controlled Congress. This show should have been cancelled in '04, but the corporate geniuses keep it going. Now it's time for "the fans" to set it all right.

Eric Boehlert, author of the excellent new book Lapdogs: How the Press Rolled Over for Bush (Free Press, May 2006), has offered one example of the obsessive coverage the media gave Whitewater:

In the 24 months between Jan. 1994 and Jan. 1996, long before Monica Lewinsky entered the picture and back when Whitewater was about an alleged crooked land deal, Nightline devoted 19 programs to the then-unfolding scandal and investigation, for which no Clinton White House official was ever indicted.

And that's how it was for eight years: obsessive media coverage and hype of made-up Clinton "scandals" that never went anywhere because they never existed anywhere other than the fevered imaginations of a few far-right Clinton-haters and the credulous news media that took them seriously.

benji,

if you meant blame immigration on the demos, then the demos can counter by saying here's "our plan" which conviently keeps the repubs divided.

to then quickly refocus to iraq...keep iraq in the headlines...the loss of our finest, the countless iraqi civilians obliterated, and the billions spent...and throw in osama...demos ask what happened to the hunt by the bullhorn guy on the 911 rubble saying we'll get those responsible, dead or alive.

unfortunately, as i mentioned, this marine flap will do just that and a lot more i suspect than the prison issue ever did.

besides, king's low poll numbers reflect the unfavorable war. play that song over and over. leave immigration to the side and off the front headlines.

and, iraqmire belongs exclusively to kingbush and his english lap poodle...they broke the pottery rule.

Why is the attorney general and other Bush lawyers professing that "we the people" have no right to know why the federal government is failing so miserably in Iraq or energy policy?

We pay for these flunkies' limos and private jet flights. We pay for their retreats to golf resorts and "the ranch". Where do they get off saying they can keep their failures secret from us?

In a world gone amuck with hubbas and tabliod journalism, Democrats should fan the fires of "enquiring minds" and ask voters why they are being left out of the loop by the Republicans.

Senator Feingold
Biography of U.S. Senator Russ Feingold

Russ Feingold is an independent voice in the United States Senate. Best known for leading the fight for campaign finance reform in the Senate with Republican Senator John McCain, Feingold has been a tireless leader in bipartisan efforts to restore fiscal discipline in Congress and reduce the federal deficit. Senator Feingold also cast the lone vote against the USA PATRIOT Act in 2001 and has continued to be a leader in the bipartisan effort to protect our rights and freedoms and fix the flawed provisions of the Act.

When he first ran for the U.S. Senate in 1992, Senator Feingold pledged to hold town hall style listening sessions in every one of Wisconsin’s 72 counties every year. To date he has held over 900 listening sessions. These listening sessions provide the people of Wisconsin an opportunity to discuss issues directly with Senator Feingold without an appointment, without making a political contribution, and without having to go to Washington, DC. These town hall meetings have been the foundation and driving force behind Feingold’s legislative agenda, and in the last year he has brought his signature listening sessions outside of Wisconsin to states such as Alabama, Pennsylvania, Vermont and New Hampshire.

Time to counter immigration with the real labor issue: Why are we educating and training Americans for jobs that no longer being created in this country?

How many graduates in the last five years have found work in their chosen fields? How many are aced out of entry level jobs by foreign workers with visas? How many have been forced to accept underemployment?

Doesn't it bother anyone that the President mandated in his No Child Left Behind bill that our children be proficient in math and science skills that they will never ever have a chance to practice in the low-paying service economy he created?

It isn't where are the the good-paying jobs of the future are....we all know the multinationals have moved them overseas. The qestion now is why the Republicans betrayed us.

It wasn't incompetence. It is and remains treason.
Any involved should be hunted down like the Enron twins and prosecuted. Let the Republican Witch Trials begin.

ARE YOU MAD AT THE RISING GAS PRICES?

Here is a great site.

Honda has its eye on a new hybrid

Honda said Wednesday that it plans to introduce a small, inexpensive gas-electric hybrid car and new diesel-powered vehicles by 2009 in the latest indication of how automakers are responding to high gasoline prices… Through its moves toward more-fuel-efficient cars, Honda hopes to raise its U.S. corporate average fuel economy to 30.6 miles per gallon by 2010. The company averaged 29.2 miles per gallon in 2005.

Open Records Policy

Texas law gives you the right to access government records and government officials may not ask why you want them. All government information is presumed to be available to the public. Certain exceptions may apply to the disclosure of the information. Governmental bodies shall promptly release requested information that is not confidential by law or information for which an exception to disclosure has been sought.

Rights of Requestors

You have the right to:

Prompt access to information that is not confidential or otherwise protected;
Receive treatment equal to all other requestors, including accommodation in accordance with ADA requirements;

Receive certain kinds of information without exceptions, like the voting record of public officials or information related to the receipt, expenditure or estimated need for public funds, and other items;

Receive a statement of estimated charges, when charges exceed $40, in advance of work being started and opportunity to renegotiate the request if charges are too high;
Choose whether to inspect the requested information (most often at no charge), receive copies of the information or both;
A waiver or reduction of charges if the governmental body determines that access to the information primarily benefits the general public;

Notice when the governmental body asks the Office of the Attorney General for a ruling on whether the information can be withheld under one of the accepted exceptions;

Lodge a complaint about charges for public records with the General Services Commission and a complaint related to other possible violations with the county attorney, criminal district attorney, or Office of the Attorney General.

is that red enough for you?

295
Benji on May 28, 2006 at 01:05 PM

when you type a post and add a "cut and paste" from an article your are using to back it up, or for more info...you can then, in this "comments box" highlight and copy a word or phrase in your post or in the "cut and paste" you put in

you would need the article open in another...i guess it's called window...

then you click on the "chain link" button above the comments box to the right, when it opens, you delete the http;// thats in it, leave it blank and go to the other window that has that article in it and highlight the url (it's address at the top in the drop down bar)and copy it.

now go back to your post in the Democrat Party window and paste the url in the chain link box and hit ok.

When you hit post and what you typed appears, the link will be the word or phrase you choose, it will be blue and underlined and now anyone who clicks on it will go to the article you were referring to.

hey marty, glad to see you decided to come back and interact with us instead of giving up on the party as a whole.

you sure have done a lot in your life...

i think that everyone here has problems with illegals, but for the life of us, can't see any other choice but to give some sort of path to citizenship, what most people call amnesty.

rounding all illegals up would require just about every law enforcement agency out there...

impounding them while we process them, unrealistic

sending them back, on who's dime?

why don't we insist that our lawmakers enforce the employer side of this problem. self=deportation thru attrition. Basically, no job waiting, no illegal problem.

combined with a wage in line with what any American citizen could expect for that job, we could cut into the REAL problem.

corporate America is exporting our jobs for cheaper labor....those jobs not deportable are being filled by illegal/cheaper labor immigrants.

not only does this hurt the middle class, but it establishes another "slave" class....

Marty, sounds like you've been around long enough to remember stories of the "gilded" age when "Robber Barons" profited from the hard times most American experienced.

This is what the Big Business/Corporate types are trying again....let's get behind real solutions, if you think i'm wrong, i'm more than willing to listen to your suggestions.

309
momoaizo on May 28, 2006 at 02:03 PM

I would even suggest that as a two part program, that we work with the countries like Mexico, Cuba, India in ways that would improve the living and wage earning conditions in that country. I believe more illegals would rather stay with their family in the country of their birth if they could make a living there....

In the end, although this is an important topic, i blieve that it is too decisive to make it part of the dem platform and that we should move on to other more important matters....what say you?

Just an FYI, at the time of the vote for the Iraq war Tom Daschle was the Majority leader and we had a technicality of 50 votes as Jeffords was an Independent and was counted as a Democrat. So when Oil Field Guy talked about the 50 Senators total in the Democratic Vote at that time, he was in fact correct. The Leadership did not go to Frist until 2003, that's just for clarification. Daschel was Leader before Bush was elected, then Lott became Leader when Bush was sworn in, but when Jeffords became Independent, the Leadership swung back to Daschel. At the time of the vote for the Iraq War Resolution the Senate was controlled by Democrats.

And Oilfield Guy, here is an exce;llent link to an article Pam B sent me in regards to Lamonts stance on Gay Lesbian Bi-Sexual Transgendered Equality, you asked about it last night and I did not see any one give you this information. LAMONT LOOKS BETTER EVERY DAY

Thats a no brainer... if they made their blog public, one of two things would happen:

a) their own site would suddenly have a good 90% of it's content used to call them traitors, theives, war mongers, etc... in other words, it would ruin the "pink fuzzy slippers" facade they like to show.
or
b) they would have to hire a staff to police the board and remove all the nasty posts. Which would be like all of them.. and get them into all kinds of first ammemdment trouble

PamB – states, “I, from this day on, shall put my own Individual Interest on the sidebar, work to get this party into office, and then put pressure on getting my Interests accomplished. If we could all only do that, what a Strong United, unbeatable party this would be!!!”

Benji – uses a made up statement, "I am a lifelong democrat and because the Democrats will not support my one-issue agenda (i.e. immigration) I will vote for the Republicans. That'll show those Democrats who's boss."

These two statements are contridictory. Pam’s is a call to unity while Benji uses a “made up” quote. The Benji statement is kinda like Bush saying saying I will compromise as long as you accept my position and don’t talk about yours. Then to suggest opponents to illegal immigration, who support legal immigration, have only a “one-issue” agenda is ludicrous, offensive, and not in the spirit of PamB’s doctrine.

Ya know this immigratuion issue could be the achilles heal that kicks democrats in the butt. Suppose that democrats are too tough on the immigration issue, but as usual the republican congress pushes bush's agenda through and bush signs it into law.
We will then have 12 million newly legal and voting immigrants that have an axe to grind for the democratic party; you know the party that voted against them!
That is why I say we must, whenever possible, reframe this issue as an exploitation issue, and economic issue for which the immigrants are coming to america in droves in the first place. We must communicate that we understand the plight of the immigrants.

My statement isn't like Bush saying anything.

Your statement is saying that not mine.

Then to suggest opponents to illegal immigration, who support legal immigration, have only a “one-issue” agenda is ludicrous, offensive, and not in the spirit of PamB’s doctrine.

When did I suggest that?

I only said I thought it was laughable.

If life-long Democrats vote republican for other reasons than immigration...

NewKewlur Bommmer Bush thinks he's Truman?

Isn't that schizophrenia????

I mean the classic in the past was somebody who thought he was Napoleon! [And, oh, that character in "Arsenic and Old Lace" who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt (and the family even calls him Teddy!).]

Usurper Bush was tootin' his own horn in front of West Point Cadets on Memorial Day weekend. But when he compared himself to Harry Truman, 33rd U.S. president, Bush's little horn really hit a false and sour note.

TootAAOOGHAAABLAUGLoooootph!!!!

Bush again proved he lives in a sociopath's fantasy world, where everything is just a tool for his manipulation. All around him is gauged on its usefulness TO HIM ALONE. Today it is Harry Truman. Or is it Bush thinks somehow he IS Truman, so Bush may be proving he is also having schizophrenic delusions! (In addition to those about God talking to him!) Does it matter if it's either, or, or both sociopathy and schizophrenia? He's a sick creep.

The most worrisome thing about Bush's comparing himself to Truman, however, is Bush's recent threats to use nuclear warheads on Iran.

Can't you just hear Bush's fake Texas drawl brag "I'm just like Truman: I'm man enough to drop newkewlur bombs! And Iran rhymes with Japan! So it's meant to happen! Dontcha know, God speaks to me in rhymes!"

IMPEACH this maniac NOW!
REVOKE his war powers by revoking the 9/11 War Powers Authorization!
STOP the Nevada fuel oil blast!
IMPEACH, IMPEACH, IMPEACH this dangerous madman!!!

plese refer to my 2:03 PM and 2:16 PM posts.

what do you think of this as a position?

then perhaps as in my 2:48PM post we could do something about it. Or not...

Maybe, if we decide we want to write LTE's with one message/voice, we could decide the message instead of countering the pugs message...let them be on the defense for a while.....

I believe in this phenomenon....
Although the exact number may vary, this Hundredth Monkey Phenomenon means
that when only a limited number of people know of a new way, it may remain the
conscious property of these people.

But there is a point at which if only one more person tunes-in to a new awareness,
a field is strengthened so that this awareness is picked up by almost everyone!

I agree with you.

The Democrats need to define their own stance on immigration.

They need to define a position that isn't reactionary to what the republicans are doing or not doing.

They need to define a position that is current with the times and the logistics of what is going on around them.

They need to define a position that takes into account all sides of the issue. From what harsh penalties may be incurred to "just" and yet "humane" treatment of "illegal immigrants" already here.

The Democrats as a whole should come to a consensus on the immigration issue before the republicans do first.

And the republicans are divided on the issue as well.

The problem is that those who get angry here over an issue important to them not getting full attention, is that they do not realize yet, that if they help get this party, from local level right on up, into power, they can only win from it. Posted by PamB on May 28, 2006 at 10:47 AM

There's even more to it than that Pam. If they're 'not in the party', they can't change what it is they don't like about the party, kindda like what you're doing about 'Old Joe'. The primary is where we decide what kind of a Party we want this to be, pro-working class progressive, or anti-working class repug-lite.

There are strongly held opinions on both sides of all issues currently facing the nation. Many opinions are held in complete disregard for fact, logic, or plain common sense that proves them wrong. The matter is compounded when a stated opinion is intended, or interpreted, as a blanket statement covering all aspects of the topic.

here's an example:
The case for Controlled Demolition of the Twin Towers. This is a highly developed theory, presented with photo and video evidence that seems to back it up with little room for debate. The strongest evidence supporting the theory is the completely unexplained (and uninvestigated, by order of President Bush) of WTC7. Using history, science, and video evidence, it is very likely the building was deliberately demolished rather than the official "fire made it fall" story.
The problem, as i see it, is those who embrace demolition extend that to the towers as well, and shout down any (rather obvious) evidence that doesn't fit their otherwise sound premis..
The main bit of evidence being that, as seen in photos and videos, the core is still standing to a height of roughly 500 feet as the dust is settling, and only collapses after. Which is why so many of the column pieces are on TOP of the rubble pile; they fell last. The demolition theory would demand they be destroyed first, ergo demolition does not fit the evidence for the towers. It does still fit the evidence for WTC7 though. a real explaination cannot be forwarded until the possibility is accepted that WTC7 was demolished and the towers fell from some other cause.

In the case of immigration, concensus will be unlikely until all sides accept the possibility that, regardless of legalities, the locating/prosecuting/deporting of 11+ million people (who do not want to be located or deported and obviously have a method of avoiding just that) might be more work and effort than it's worth.. and that such targetting could entail yet another black eye for the nation.. and that demonstrators against it could/would number in the millions..

I guess what i'm trying to say is, for this party to succeed fantasyland must be abandoned and we all have to start reading from the same textbook.

--end rant--

The two world leaders who plotted the original invasion have, at least, come a long way in realizing how many things have gone wrong. Mr. Bush and Mr. Blair, who have always been the cheerleaders for the Iraq initiative, seemed positively downbeat, even as they insisted that democratization would make everything right in the end.

Right now armed gangs of thugs, many of them wearing government uniforms, are spreading terror throughout the country. Some were trained by American forces to work for the Interior Ministry, but actually do the bidding of Shiite political and religious leaders. They harass, kidnap and murder people who follow different religious practices or support competing politicians, often with the help of weapons and equipment provided by an American government that had very different objectives in mind. The Times reported last week that Sunni forces working for the Ministry of Defense who were supposed to be guarding Iraq's oil pipeline were instead freelancing as death squads, assassinating people who cooperated with the same government that paid the gunmen's salaries.

Of all of George Bush's many arguments for the invasion, the only one that has survived exposure to reality is that Iraqis deserve something better than a brutal dictatorship. But right now the country appears on the way to a civil war

Kerik's fame faded after allegations of ethical lapses doomed his nomination. His troubles, however, have endured.

Vehicles with GPS can work in two ways... one way is locator, where you send the request and it positions the vehicle. The "real time" tracking, which is more popular, is a system where the vehicle drops a bread crumb every minute. in such a case, all movements of the car are tracked. Since the NSA is all about datastream (signal) monitoring (phone/cell/internet/satellite/etc) it is somewhat niave to assume they don't collect these records as well.. especially since the government most likely owns the satellites. Many cars are also now equipped with "onstar", a voice system.

Jump from there to the newest rage in home alarm systems, the live 2-way systems where the monitor station can talk directly to anyone in the house through a dedicated connection. In the more advanced systems, you can actually listen in on your own house, eg when kids get home from school and you are still at work.

Remember NSA? Datastream (signal) monitoring?

The difference between this and the Orwellian "big brother is watching" scenario is, in this situation we not only pay a subscription but consider it hip to have our homes and cars wired for sound...

to add to that, the only ones who seemed to be forgotten when those warnings went out were the Naval Investigators.. their office and staff were decimated in the attack... too bad too, since that department (by nature of it's reason for existance) would have otherwise been the main investigative force into the astounding failure of the air defences...

A number of researchers express doubt about the common account of events surrounding the September 11, 2001 attacks. Some propose alternative theories and explanations, the 9/11 conspiracy theories. Others seek to prove that the government's story has too many inconsistencies to be true, and some seek to demonstrate that the U.S. government is complicit in the attacks. Assertions include the involvement of the government and private sector agents; that the government had foreknowledge of the attacks and consciously failed to prevent them; the existence of a cover-up in the investigation, and criticisms of the 9/11 Commission Report. Many of these claims have been dismissed by many journalists and scientists[7][8]. However, some of these claims are supported by a minority of scientists, military experts, government officials, computer experts, journalists, some in the intelligence community, and some family members of 9/11 victims.[9]

386
momoaizo on May 28, 2006 at 06:27 PM

As far as the failure of the air defences go, the plane heading for the Pentagon was an hour late. Within minutes of the planes hitting the towers NORAD asked to be allowed to put fighter jets up and they were ordered by command and control to remain grounded, for exactly one hour. Then they were allowed to fly.

387
Domingo on May 28, 2006 at 06:27 PM

Of all the conspiracy theories, i think the most unbelievable one is the one claiming that the entire defensive network of the world's only superpower, which had multiple warnings given to it's multiple branches, was completely thwarted and made useless by some guy living in a cave 5 miles east of where bush and buddies at enron wanted to drive a pipeline to back up a multi-billion dollar investment.

The pentagon has video footage that would settle it once and for all. they withhold it not for reasons of national security, but to keep up the debate on the plane/no plane theories. This serves to make anyone who doubts the official story look like they belong to the tin-foil-hat-club.

Could it have been a plane? Certainly. And most likely was. Things to consider:
- The vid footage they released is about 1 frame per second. Capturing an image of an aircraft doing 400+ mph in the narrow frame of view would be a damn lucky shot, since it would take the plane less than a 10th of a second to cross the distance.

- careful examination of pictures show the damage to the building (prior to collaps) is consistant with the size and shape of a 767. it shows more than adequate openings for fuel (which was travelling at the same speed of the plane, obviously) to travel far inside the structure ahead of the combustion wave.

- these planes are made out of very thin aluminum stretched over a frame... while a low angle hit on the ground can cause debris to tumble and leave large pieces behind, a right angle hit into a steel-reinforced brick wall will reduce it to confetti.

The ONLY thing that will resolve these questions are the videos from the traffic cam, the hotel, and gas stations which were each of the type to capture it in fluid motion.
The DoD has no legal "secrecy" leg to stand on in withholding the tapes. They will conclusively show a plane or a missile.
Congress and/or the senate should demand, in no uncertain terms, and on the threat of treason charges being the alternative, that these tapes be released unedited and at once.

Would they just keep on fighting centuries' old feuds? Nuke each other? Finally be forced to negociate? Russia would step in? Oil prices would skyrocket?

Perhaps we better start facing reality. If we can't get our trade and national deficits knocked down soon, we will not have the luxury of continuting these foreign entanglements. We might be forced to leave quickly by our creditors.

Wouldn't it be better plan our withdrawal and set up an orderly transition? What can we live with as a solution?

Unlikely Center of Latest Political Storm

Recent disputes have turned House Speaker Hastert from Bush loyalist to critic, and reflect growing GOP dissent.

Hastert surprised many when he criticized the FBI raid on Jefferson's office, because in doing so, he seemed to be siding with a Democrat accused of corruption. Hastert argued that it was his job to defend Congress' institutional prerogatives, and said that the search violated the constitutional separation of powers for the executive branch to be rifling through legislative files. He took his case directly to Bush in at least two conversations last week, according to a Hastert aide.

The issue prompted Hastert's staff to make a rare effort to reach out to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), with whom Republicans have been locked in partisan combat for years. The adversaries worked together in Hastert's Capitol office Wednesday to craft a joint statement asking the FBI to return the materials seized from Jefferson's office.

But Hastert's drama for the day did not end with his rare appearance, almost hand-in-hand, with Pelosi as they announced their joint statement.

That evening, ABC reported that Hastert was under investigation as part of the Abramoff inquiry because of a letter he had signed urging the Interior Department to block an Indian casino opposed by one of Abramoff's clients.

Political Reform

People are disgusted with corrupt politicians who side with Special Interest groups that can “buy” a voice in Congress with large campaign contributions. We can fix our system, but only under the leadership of elected officials dedicated to protecting our democracy.

Reducing the influence of Special Interest Groups by adopting and enforcing more stringent campaign finance laws – placing the will of the people before the wants of Wall Street

Ensure that all Americans are able to vote by implementing a national Election Day Holiday by giving people the time they need to fulfill their patriotic duty

Avoid the inevitable lawsuits filed over allegations of voter disenfranchisement by implementing Universal Voter Registration for every American on their 18th birthday

I wouldn't worry about the language or the optimism.

I don't believe in waiting for nature to take it's course. If there is a real possibility of a flooding rain, I move to high ground or better yet build up stream to begin with.

We should be looking for strategies that offer some degree of success in the Middle East5 instead of waiting to see if the neocon's philosophy will play out in a few decades.

Posted by SandyH on May 28, 2006 at 09:37 PM

the way i see it, there is only one strategy left..
It is known the war was bogus from the start, that it was a war to increase profit for some while disgracing the nation in the eyes of the world. The Iraq war was never about terrorism, and only the most stubborn and uninformed can fail to see that.

There is only one way that i see for America to redeem herself.. even if it's just to herself.
We claim the love of freedom, the respect of law, and the equality of mankind under the law.

We need to prove it.

2008 is too late to deal with the treason that infests our nation. At the current rate, there will be no America to govern by 2008.
We need an uprising of our own, we need to oust the traitors and we need to do it NOW. We need to show the world, and more importantly, ourselves, that true justice knows no class distinction and that it really is WE THE PEOPLE who run this country.

We have been hijacked.
We need to take our country back from the traitors, and let our actions - rather than the language of corrupt politics - speak in our defence.

letters to the editor in local papers. call MSM offices, email the talking heads, the reporters, etc.. also members of congress, etc..
don't waste bandwith pleading your case or telling them that which THEY ALREADY KNOW.

Ask them, instead, if they are really ok with being party to treason.
Because by remaining idle and silent, they make themselves accessories after the fact. (with at least some before and during)
Organize. We are seated at the center of a nation-wide campaign system. Use these systems to take a vote to washington. You want a campaign platform? here it is. This is, in the true sense of the words, a national emergency and a matter of national security. America is in greater danger for every minute the traitors commit murder for profit in our name.

Hey Dawnie, been having a good weekend? how's the weather up there? been warm and sunny here...

Tune,
you are very correct, this is what i have been advocating all day, we need to organize ourselves and speak with one voice, one message pounded over and over again.

using a chapter right out the the pug playbook, saying something over and over eventually makes it ring true in the minds of the masses.

so, our first assignment is to write a letter to the editor decrying this war?

although we have big problems in iraq, without a stated position by all dems, what are we to offer as a solution?

may i suggest that we instead start with what seems to be making headlines all over: the search and siezure in congressional offices by the FBI, sent in by the Executive Branch.

as most are noting, this bipartisian outcry would have more merit if they haven't been the lappack congress so far.

however, no one points out how this administration, on it's high and mighty horse has ignored the law....

what do you think? lets discuss this....

we do need to organize ourselves. after all, Tracy did give us a challenge to write LTEs this weekend....

425
momoaizo on May 28, 2006 at 10:46 PM

WOW I agree excellent posts tonight. Count me in on the round table. If we get dems in and they seek truth and justice the country might actually regain the lost trust from the rest of the world and PEACE could be possible.

I came across this paragraph about Memorial Day on the Veterans for Peace web site. I share Mr. McPhearson's sentiments.

Veterans For Peace National Executive Director Michael McPhearson stated, “It is not enough to simply remember and mourn. If we are able, we must also act. As we remember and mourn, we should use this occasion to motivate ourselves to work towards ending the madness and horror of war. We have a responsibility to educate the public on the human cost of war, the lives shattered, broken and lost. We stand as witnesses to this terrible cost and we say to our fellow citizens that there is a better way. Join us as we walk the path of peace.”

Get out there and debate in no person’s land. And link link link to boards like thinkprogress.org and crooksandliars.com as well as mainstream media like the NYT, CNN, ABC etc.! Help wake America up to the crooked, incompetent Republican failures that have seized control of our government.

THREE THINGS TO THINK ABOUT:

1. COWS
2. THE CONSTITUTION
3. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

1. COWS
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing
that our government can track a cow born in Canada
almost three years ago, right to the stall where she
sleeps in the state of Washington? And, they tracked
her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate
11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country.
Maybe we should give them all a cow.

2. THE CONSTITUTION
They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for
Iraq. Why don't we just give them ours? It was written
by a lot of really smart guys, it's worked for over 200 years
and we're not using it anymore.

3. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
The real reason that we can't have the Ten
Commandments in a courthouse........
You cannot post ! "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou
Shalt Not Commit Adultery" and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in
a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians --
it creates a hostile work environment.

just stopping by to wish everyone a nice holiday weekend. some holiday-right? our brave troops sent to die needlessly by that LITTLE CHIMP BUSH. what a disgrace. I will be thinking of all the brave men and women who have given their lives to protect our freedom. I will also be praying for those who died in this unjust bush family feud. may we honer them by impeaching the lying sack of shit who sent them there. he has no shame and no remorse for this horrible deception. I'm sure he would do it all over again including letting 9-11 happen so he had an excuse to go after Iraq. sometimes it still doesn't seem real. also I need to re-emphasize what a horribly bad idea hillary running for president is. she has kissed the ass of the little chimp man with this war and I will never forgive her for that. she also knows the 2004 election was rigged but she doesn't care because she is only looking out for herself. I would slice my own arm off with a dull butcher knife before I will ever vote for her. I would vote for jeb bush before hillary. you probably think that people like me are going to suck it up and go vote for the queen in 2008 but YOU ARE WRONG. she is not going to be president. I have been hard on al gore in the past but I will get behind him. howard would probably get a good cabinet position. maybe hillary should try going home and baking some cookies or something. it ain't going to happen people. and the sooner we all agree on this- the better.

The Senate Bill:
No penalty for employers who hire illegals.
Illegals can draw social security for illegally earned wages.
Consultation with MEXICO before securing our borders.
Legalize millions who broke our laws entering the country. They have to produce proof of how many years they have been here, which is a joke. If they can forge documents to work they can forge other documents also.
Illegals granted amnesty can then bring in their families. Wonder how many per person that would be?
Babies born to Illegal immigrants automatically become citizens, and of course who will deport the mother?
If our immigration laws had been enforced after the last amnesty, as was promised, we would not now be facing the problem of what to do with 10-12 million marching in our streets, calling us WHITEY, GRINGO, AND TELLING US TO GO BACK TO EUROPE!! We would not see our Flag flying upside down while the Mexican Flag is flying high. We would not have Spanish as a second language and we would not be accused of STEALING THEIR LAND, or seeing placards reading "THIS IS OUR COUNTRY, NOT YOURS"!! Haven't any of you actually taken a look at the videos of the marches on the Internet?
Haven't any of you listened to the LA RAZA speeches on the Internet? Because if you would do that you would see what the Liberal News leaves out of the News broadcasts.
These are the immigrants that the Senate wants to give citizenship to. Immigrants who only want to be "MEXICANS IN AMERICA", not Americans.
Secure the border first. Not only Hispanics are coming over, along with the drugs and the diseases for which they have never been vaccinated. The makings of bombs have been confiscated along with firearms!!
I don't understand what's wrong with enforcing our laws. There is a big difference between a LEGAL immigrant and an ILLEGAL one. Why is everyone ignoring the difference between those two words? "A Path to Citizenship" is the buzz word for AMNESTY! America has always had a path to citizenship. A legal path, so why are we trying to encourage ILLEGAL entry to the USA?
I'm sorry, the logic behind the Senate bill, the Liberal and the Democratic Parties stand on Immigration and even some of the misguided Republicans, who are supposed to be Conservatives, totally escapes me.
What on earth is wrong with legally entering the country, and what is right about illegally entering our country?
What is wrong with securing our border, and what is wrong with enforcing our immigration laws? If we do not enforce them why do we even have them?
Our Government once had a reason for passing immigration laws, but saw no reason to enforce them.
This whole situation boggles my mind and screams of some hidden agenda, like OPEN BORDERS BETWEEN CANADA, THE US, AND MEXICO.
It's really too bad that American citizens will never know the truth behind our Politicians reasons for anything they do.
One thing I do know, they do not have the best interests of the American citizens who voted and elected them to office, or they would not now be siding with illegal immigrants who should not be here in the first place. They are here because our Government chose to ignore immigration laws they themselves promised to enforce.

I can not get my hotmail account to receive email, I sent it to myself from a different account and never received it.

Anyway, why can we not have the Post Office offer an email service that uses there guaranteed delivery pledge? They can also offer certified email that the email was delivered unfiltered, unaltered, and on time. This may help keep government intrusion legal that they will require court ordered warrants, and that other countries would be kept from spying on free speech in them. I wonder though if regular mail is being opened “At Will” of the White House without warrants. Therefore, maybe Senators and Congressmen can use Post Office email without fear of domestic spying, I think so anyway.

Second of all, can Congress come up with a bill making it unlawful for any organization to filter and/or alter email without consent of the receiver, that a warrant must be issued with checks and balances of due process of Constitutional law? That it will outlaw foreign intelligence and others from impeding the free speech of our Freedom and Democracy to speak out freely in email.

Can Congress find out who are on these secret domestic lists of citizens being monitored and check for abuse? Can Congress have a dozen people (Not a few chosen by a White House but by Congress) qualified on national security matters with the highest clearance possible, so they may look at all the data of the White House secrecy? Every time the White House get in trouble they say it is a matter of national security. It is a matter of national security that Congress and the Supreme Court have the highest credentials to oversee the Constitution from executive privileged abuse.

If you want try davelyoung1@hotmail.com and if I receive your email I will email you back. Maybe it is paranoia from being in a Bush empire. It would be something to check if email is being corporately filtered, also give me places on the Internet where things are being openly discussed in free speech philosophy.

Left Wing Democrats are fools if they think the Immigration issue is going away. The Democrats has been a minority in both the House and Senate for ten years. The Democrats lost the Presidential election in 2000. The Democrats didn’t even win the Presidential election in 2004 against the pitiful excuse for a president, GWB. And now they think they can take back the Senate and House in November. The Democrat’s base is now made up of only the Gays and a group of women who were stupid enough to have sex with out protection (those who support the Right to Abortion Issue). This is because the Left Wing Democrats will not listen to those who are concerned about a “Peasant Work Force in the United States”. The Left Wing Democrats are calling this Racism (which it is not) and won’t even listen to those Democrats who are concerned about it. Well CLOSE only counts in House Shoes and Hangernaids. WE have put up with the whining from the Gays and that group of women who were stupid enough to have sex with out protection (those who support the Right to Abortion Issue) about their issues but now when Labor has an issue that they are concerned about, the DNC alienates every individual who wants to discuss it. I ask you, why should we continue to support the Gay Movement and the Pro-Abortion issues when you and the DNC won’t even listen to us about our side of the Immigration Issue.

For those of you on this Blog who refuse to listen to us, then turn off your computers and get a real life.
This issue is not going away, only the would be Democratic Voters are going away and going to vote for candidates who listens to them (those 75% of Republicans who have enough guts to stand up against GWB’s desire for a Peasant Work Force in the United states).

I am tired of listening to the Left Wing Democrats blaming GWB for the War when it was the Democrats who voted for the War in the first place. I am ashamed of the Democratic Party’s “Lets start a War but I don’t want to fight” attitude. Yes I have been a Democrat all my life along with all of my family but we are all ashamed of the DNC now. You and the DNC refuse to listen about our and millions of other U.S. Citizens’ concerns about a “Peasant Work Force in the United States”. The DNC may gain the 11 million votes of the Peasants but you are going to loose 22 million votes from U.S. Citizens. The Democratic Politicians should represent the citizens of the United States and not citizens from other countries. We are the ones who voted for the Democratic Politicians last time but if they continue not listening to us, don’t count on use voting for them the next time.

Remember: “Every Vote Counts”, and as quoted from:

“Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York, the head of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, agreed that Democrats have not sealed the deal. "I think if the election were held today, there is a 50-50 chance of taking the House and the Senate and a very high percentage of gaining a significant number of seats," Schumer said.”

So, if I were you, I wouldn’t be turning away voters.

I am a lifelong Democrat and because the Democrats will not support my one-issue agenda (i.e. immigration) I'm going to start a third party or vote republican. That'll show those Democrats whose boss.
