Today the DNC's Voting Rights Institute and National Lawyers Council are holding an Election Protection Summit. This day-long event has brought together voting rights activists, litigators, scholars, Democratic Party leaders and election administrators to dicuss comprehensive stategies to advance fair election practices.
On today's agenda a dicussion of the following topics:

How about making the elections a week long (including weekend) event and not just one day!
Or, make election day a National Holiday so more people will be able to vote.
Right here on the DNC website, there is a button at the top of the page "local". You can pick your state and if all states are like NC, at the county level, you can check your voter registration status...EVERYONE SHOULD DO THIS AND EVERYONE SHOULD TELL FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO CHECK THEIRS TOO. LET'S MAKE SURE THAT AT LEAST THE REGISTERED VOTERS ARE ABLE TO VOTE!

Photp I.D., Why not many places of business have
caught crimenals this way why can't we? It should be attached to the voting machine so a person can get a full face look at the voter. The voter must have a paper showing him his number which makes a certain amount of Democrats voting thus far.

There is and has been a concerted effort over the last several years to inhibit the ability of certain citizens to cast their votes effectively. This is one of the most isidious movements that I have witnessed.
Our ballot box is the heart of our republic and how we maintain the liberties and freedoms we have enjoyed. For it to even have the taint of impropriety sends the wrong message to our citizens and to the world. We cannot hold other countries accountable when we cannot even police ourselves.
There should be an effective way to prevent votes by ineligible citizens. However, that should not be done in a way that disenfranchises voters that are legal to vote. There should also be a law that insures that the data from any election is the property of the government and not of any software or computer corporation.
Additionally, there must be a paper trail for all votes. It should be illegal to have a vote that is unable to be counted by hand. This is an American concern, not a partisan one.

We need more than discussion. We need action plans.

Put volunteers and tables outside voting places so voters can register their votes and give contact information if there is a question of who voted for whom and so forth.
Also get cameras in hands of volunteers in case there is someone who tries to stop someone else from voting. I know I'd be good if I knew cameras were around!
Let's do something instead of talking about it! Governor Dean can ask people to sign up for camera duty or registration duty!
