Congress is Back

Reuters notes that Congress is back this week.
U.S. lawmakers returning from a weeklong break on Monday will take up a long list of unfinished -- and possibly insurmountable -- tasks that could help decide whether voters will re-elect them in November.
Action or inaction on a series of contentious issues including immigration, pensions, energy and federal spending will determine whether this Congress sheds the impression that it has made few legislative achievements.
Immigration reform may be up again, as well as stem cell research, an energy bill that would give incentives to build new refineries, and possibly a bill to give President Bush power to hold special military tribunals. You may recall that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled a few weeks ago that such tribunals were unconstitutional.
I hope everyone saw the World Cup Final. Zidane is a thug.

No doubt what he did was idiotic and plus he won the Golden Ball this morning. Boo!
I taped it and haven't seen it yet cuz I was out of town and without power. But I did see the newsclip of Zidane--yikes, what was he thinking?!
I think France was the better team, but their star player is a complete fool. What sort of veteran player loses his temper that badly in such an important game?
I will probably just chalk it up to a brain fart. Generally, the guy comes across as such a good sport. I guess when you have your bad days, the worst thing that could happen is that it is witnessed by millions.
Professional athletes and politicans have a lot in common. They don't think there should be consequences for their actions. And they forget that they are being watched.

"Zidane is a thug."
Who is the bigger thug, the guy who provokes or the guy who responds?
I really hope we're not saying that someone who responds to provocation is automatically wrong. This was not a "preemptive strike": Matterazzi was trash-talking and obviously said something that broke Zidane's restraint. And we're going to call Zizou the thug?
Down with bullies, not those who stand up to them. Zidane deserved the Golden Ball.
