Dean Statement on DeLay Remaining on the Ballot

July 7, 2006

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement on the ruling that Tom DeLay must stay on the ballot in the upcoming election:

"Despite Tom DeLay's attempt to skirt judgment from the electorate and drop out of the House race, today's ruling demonstrates that the Republican culture of corruption does not supercede the U.S. Constitution, and the rights of voters to select their Representatives without partisan political trickery. This is a victory for the electoral process and for the voters of Texas who will have a clear opportunity to reject the Republican culture of corruption that Tom DeLay represents and vote for a new direction."
