Hawaiian Candidates Are Political Speed Dating

10 to 1 is the ratio of candidates to congressional seats in Hawaii's 2ND District. With so much competition, the Progressive Democrats of Hawaii and the Hawaii chapter of the Americans for Democratic Action have created a unique way for voters to hear the candidates positions, political speed dating.

"We wanted to bring all the candidates together to speak in one place," Progressive Democrats Co-chairwoman Rachel Orange said in a news release. "But with 10 candidates, it was unmanageable under a traditional format."

Using the speed dating concept, candidates rotate between small groups of 9 to 12 people and are allotted 10 minutes to field questions. The process is completed once each candidate has talked to every group.

"I usually don't talk politics on a first date, but I'll make an exception in this case," said [one candidate]
