DNC Department Descriptions
Administration is responsible for the DNC’s administrative services and daily operations; it is responsible for material and supply management, mail, photocopy services, telecommunications, reception desk operations, the building environment, and space management; it also coordinates the DNC employment enrichment, internship and goodwill programs.
American Majority Partnership is responsible for increasing the Democratic vote among the Party’s base vote constituencies (African, Asian, Native American, Hispanic, persons with disabilities, gays and lesbians, and seniors). AMP acts as liaison between the DNC and the various national constituencies. AMP also develops strategies that increase constituency participation in elections and the Democratic Party.
Association of State Democratic Chairs (ASDC) provides guidance, support, and technical assistance to State Democratic Parties. It trains new State Chairs, Vice Chairs, Executive Directors, and staff. It serves as a liaison for state parties and coordinates meetings and forums. A list of current state chairs, state party headquarters, and Executive Directors is available from the ASDC office.
The Chairman's Office coordinates the schedule of the Chairman. It develops position papers, tracks correspondence addressed to the Chairman, maintains the appropriate files, and provides coordinated administrative support to the Chairman.
The department of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the development of the DNC budget and management of its financial resources, including payroll, payment of invoices, fiscal and FEC reporting, tracking contributions, disbursements, and expenditures.
The Chief of Staff's Office (COS) The office of the Chief Of Staff is responsible for the day-to-day management of the DNC and its operation. Operations at the DNC are managed through four divisions: Administration, Constituent Services, Events, and Human Resources, all of which report to the Chief of Staff.
The College Democrats of America is an organization of student activists who recruit and train Democratic students for participation in all facets of political activism, with special emphasis on electing Democrats and supporting the legislative goals of the Democratic Party.
Communications coordinates the DNC’s pro-active and reactive communication with the media. The Deparment works closely with state parties, Democratic leadership, and grassroots activists to develop an effective information sharing strategy. Communications also maintains an archive of print and video clips.
Compliance is responsible for overseeing compliance with internal and federal requirements governing the solicitation and processing of contributions to the DNC and the preparation of the DNC’s Federal Elections Commission (FEC) reports.
Constituency Services responds to all policy and constituent mail and responds to requests for information.
Democrats Abroad is the official Democratic Party organization for the 6.2 million Americans living outside the United States. The organization works to advance the principles of our party by spreading the Democratic message to Americans abroad and encouraging them to vote for Democratic candidates back home.
Direct Marketing raises all of the DNC’s direct mail and telemarketing revenue. It maintains and services the DNC donor base and also runs the DNC’s merchandising program.
The Executive Director’s Office (ED) provides central management of the Democratic National Committee’s operations. It coordinates the work of DNC Divisions to ensure an efficient and coordinated strategy and program. All Division Directors report to the ED.
Finance is responsible for coordinating the Party’s fundraising activities under the direction of the National Finance Chair and the Treasurer. Through scaled donor programs, the Finance division works to identify and sustain party contributions at every level, from small donors to major supporters.
The Gay and Lesbian Leadership Council (GLLC) was founded during the 2000 presidential campaign and is comprised of active gay and lesbian Democratic supporters who support a progressive, inclusive platform for the Democratic Party.
Human Resources (HR) conducts new hire orientation, maintains personnel files and administers employee benefits, which include medical and life insurance and the 401(k) plan.
Internet produces content for and maintains the Democratic Party's website. The department’s responsibilities include writing the DNC's blog 'Kicking Ass', internet outreach, video editing for the web, web design and coding, social networking, and online marketing.
The Office of the Secretary coordinates the planning of all National Committee, Executive Committee and Standing Committee meetings. This office also serves as the DNC’s liaison to the National Committee members. As the Party’s official record keeper, the Secretary’s Office maintains the DNC’s official membership lists and coordinates archival storage of the Party’s official records. It also compiles the list of National Convention delegates, oversees convention voting operations, and publishes the Official Proceedings of each convention.
The Office of the General Counsel is responsible for the DNC’s legal work, which includes oversight of federal and state election law compliance, campaign finance, and ethics. The General Counsel’s office works closely with all DNC Divisions to provide legal advice, information, and research.
Party Affairs and Delegate Selection (PADS) oversees the institutional affairs of the Democratic National Committee: Party rules, the delegate selection process, DNC and Convention standing committees, official appointments and nominations, and initial preparations for the Convention.
Political develops and implements the coordinated campaign strategy on behalf of the DNC with Democratic candidates at federal, state and local levels. The Political Division also coordinates the interaction between the Party and the White House, Congress, State Parties, and allied organizations.
Research is responsible for the collection, dissemination and utilization of information vital to the work of the Democratic Party.
The mission of the Technology Division is to create and implement a clearly-defined strategy for building and using a lasting technology infrastructure that helps Democrats win elections at all levels through better voter contact, better communication, better fundraising, and better organizing.
The Women’s Leadership Forum (WLF) promotes political and fundraising outreach to activist Democratic women nationwide.
