I'm sorry but on this issue I agree with Mr. Lehman. I do not believe the right of birth should automatically make you a citizen unless you parents are citizens. Illegal immigration has gotten out of hand and is hurting the average American worker and frankly I am ready to vote for anyone who wants to make the rights of American citizens come before those of illegal aliens.

Finally someone in Congress sees the hole in our immigration system. What is the possible logic in a baby having a different citizenship from the mother? The only purpose in this is to give immigrants a foothold in our social services and allow them to receive SSI checks for each child born in this country. You would think that by now Congress would have done something. It's too bad that the Dem party is on the wrong side of this issue. What we can hope for is that locally elected people sent to Congress to replace the idiots that are there will get back to representing their constituents which by the way aren't from some other country.

I am an immigrant in this country during Clinton administration and I have never had such a hard time in my life.I married an american for love,no for papers, and immigration made my life hell when in the case of couples from Mexico where you could tell they were getting married for papers,nobody gave them hard time.

The right to be a citizen by birth is derived from the 14th amendment, one of the amendments created after the Civil War. One of the great things about this amendment is that it prevents the creation of a separate class of people: what better way to assimilate people than to make them citizens? Imagine being born in a country, growing up there, and then being told to leave because you are not a citizen. What country are you a part of? Don't confuse how citizens should be treated with the lack of border enforcement and the poor, corrupt Mexican government.
