Six New Democrats in the Senate

Posted by on August 23, 2006 at 03:58 PM

Yesterday, The Hotline posted a compilation of recent polling across the United States. According to these polls, Democrats can win back the Senate. Listed below are the six Senate seat pick ups projected by polling. Keep in mind that these polls don't guarantee Election Day votes, and that in the bottom two races, the Democratic challengers are within the margin of error. You knew that.

Missouri
Research 2000 (+/-3.5%) 6/19-6/22
Claire McCaskill (D) 49
Jim Talent (R) 43

Montana
Lake Research (+/-4.0%) 8/8-8/10
Jon Tester (D) 44
Conrad Burns (R) 37

Ohio
Columbus Dispatch (+/-2.0%) 7/11-7/20
Sherrod Brown (D) 45
Mike DeWine (R) 37

Pennsylvania
Quinnipiac (+/-2.6%) 8/8-8/13
Bob Casey (D) 48
Rick Santorum (R) 42

Rhode Island
Brown Univ./Taubman (+/-3.5%) 6/24-6/26
Sheldon Whitehouse (D) 38
Lincoln Chafee (R) 37

Tennessee
Benenson Strategy Group (+/-2.9%) 8/10-8/15
Harold Ford (D) 44
Bob Corker (R) 42

In honor of this post, please take today's action: find out if you can vote early. According to an outdated list I found online, one of the above states can vote early. You'll have to call your local election board to find out for sure.

Governor Dean is also on Situation Room supposedly in the 5:00 hour. Hey, hard to be on Hardball at the same time. Must be via satellite.

I think that it is good that we have a chance to pick up 6 seats in the Senate this year. I am especially happy that one of those seats could be for an African American from the South. Harold Ford, Jr. of Tennessee. But, when the time comes in 2008, I hope that the Democratic Party gets to work in trying to get more southerners elected to the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives.

Wooooo Hoooo!

I'm so exited for the upcoming elections! We need to start seeing a larger gap in those numbers though so everyone in those states.....

"Hook your candidates up!"

:)

P.S. I would argue that we are actually looking at 7 new Democrats.

Ned Lamont (D-CT)44
Judas Leiberman (R-CT)42

HI FOS,

The DCCC is pushing Representatives, not Senators, but they would not have put Lamont on any fund raising lists anyways. The Dems are being stingy with money for Lamont because, #1- they really don't care if Lieberman wins, he has said he will still vote with them, and #2- they figure Ned will just keep throwing in his own money.

Ned refused a $5000 check yesterday from a Union which endorsed him. He is refusing any PAC money, other than Dem Leadership PACs like Hillary who just gave him some.

Ned will not be beholden to any Lobbyists or groups for votes in the future. He is depending on grassroots support. (wait till we get my next credit card bill! Yikes!)

The race that will have 5 democrats taking back the senate seats is wonderful news. It's about time that the tide changes. Here in Maine though, it's a different story. We have a candidate, democrat, won the primary and is grass roots. She can defeat Olympia Snowe, but with one problem. NO one will support her bid for the senate. All of her money is from grass roots people. The DNC has declined to support her and the DFA is dragging their feet to endorse her candidacy. WHY is that? I thought that we were for democrats and to replace the old guard and get rid of the evil empire? What gives with this mixed messages. The candidates name is Jean HayBright and she has been winning the hearts and minds of people for one end of this state to the other. Even the county dems won't support her. Even her own county chair and committee won't support her bid. Are we that fragmented that we can't pull together for a common cause? or do we just want to keep business as usual? I believed in Dr. Dean's message in taking back this country, it appears that he doesn't anymore or the rest of the national democratic party.
