FL-Sen: GOP Grudgingly Accept Harris Is the Senate Nominee
Poor Katherine Harris, even when she wins (the primary, that is) she still can't get any real love:
On Tuesday morning, it looked like U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris was going to miss Thursday's rally in Orlando with President Bush and Republican gubernatorial nominee Charlie Crist.Harris' schedule showed her participating in votes in Washington on Thursday for a series of House votes on immigration bills and then attending a River City Republican Club function in Atlantic Beach, near Jacksonville, around the same time as the evening rally.
That prompted reporters at the Florida Cabinet meeting in Tallahassee to ask Crist and Gov. Jeb Bush about why Harris wasn't going to be there.
"We all need to choose where we can be the most efficient," Crist said.
Translation: We all need her to keep her brand of crazy away from us!
Well Harris wasn't gonna pass up the chance to show the big boys of the Florida GOP that she matters, especially if it means forcing Governor Jeb, who desperately tried to get every other Republican in the state to run against her, to say nice things about her, like:
Gov. Bush said: "I think she should attend. She's the party nominee for the United States Senate."
But the schedule change hasn't gone unnoticed and there were questions. Were the Bush boys and their new nom avoiding Harris?
Both denied there had been any effort by Republican leaders to keep Harris away from the event.Late Tuesday, Harris spokeswoman Jennifer Marks said Harris had been invited and "looks forward to being with the president and Charlie Crist."
Marks declined to comment on why Harris' schedule had not previously included the event with the president or when the schedule was changed.
