Pushing to Get Hispanics Registered to Vote

The Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO) led a voter registration drive to get more Hispanics registered to vote. With volunteers in 10 Georgia counties, the group decided to hold these registration events while momentum is still high following the marches and rallies on immigration.

"Today we march! Tomorrow we vote!"

The motives of the group have not been fully supported however. On the day that the group had a nationally known Spanish language radio show host in town to energize the mobilization effort, it received a threatening phone call. As a result, the organizations director, Jerry Gonzalez, has asked that all GALEO workers in all counties work in teams to protect their own safety. The group has a goal to get 1 million Hispanics registered by 2008.
