this is hysterical and sick. daniel henniger a editorial writing pimp for the wall street urinal attended bush's meeting with right wing media stars the other day. in this piece about the meeting he goes on about how unpolitical the thing was ( barf ) and quotes bush as saying:
""My biggest issue that I think about all the time," Mr. Bush says, "is the next attack on America, because I am fully aware that there are people out there that would like nothing more than to have another spectacular moment by killing American people. And they're coming."
too bad this wasn't what bush was thinking about before 9/11, he might have cut that vacation short. right not political, just tell the bobble heads that attacks are on the way and only he knows how to defend us....i wonder if this pimp asked about how port securtiy was coming or how many suicidal terrorists there are in the world now compared to five years ago? did he ask if bush would like to have that spectacular attack this week maybe? no he tells us this is a great man who only has our interests in mind...what a sack of shit!

about that strong economy the republicans were going to run on....there isn't one:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A slumping housing sector helped slow U.S. economic growth in the third quarter to its weakest pace in more than three years, the Commerce Department reported on Friday.
Gross domestic product, which measures total economic activity within U.S. borders, expanded at a 1.6 percent annual rate during the third quarter, down from 2.6 percent in the second quarter for the slowest advance since 1.2 percent in the first quarter of 2003.
Third-quarter GDP growth was well below Wall Street analysts' forecasts for a 2.2 percent rate of growth and reflected a range of influences that combined to slow the economy. Most striking was a 17.4 percent annual rate of contraction in spending on new housing - the biggest decline in 15-1/2 years since a 21.7 percent drop in the first quarter of 1991.
...be aware that in just the month of september the average house in the united states lost 10% of its value....

Fear is driving this political drama
At least one half of the nation is fervently hoping that, a week from next Tuesday, we will see the beginning of the end of the national nightmare in which we've been ensnared for the past six years and the start of a return to political sanity in America.......The other half of the country undoubtedly fears that the election will also mark the beginning of the end -- the end of a determined and largely successful effort to halt the liberal advance that has marked the nation's politics for much of the past half century.

"I'm just not seeing a lot of progress," frets Kimberly Froeschner, 34, a GOP-leaning independent in Raleigh, N.C. She said she has grown frustrated with Iraq in the past year and feels "it's more about oil."
And Bush finally admitted it was "all about oil" this week at his press conference.
Was that a cry for help? Does he feel helpless and doesn't know what to do, so he's hoping that a Democratic sweep of Congress will allow/force him to avail himself of their counsel and ideas?
I sure hope so. But Cheney would probably die before letting it happen.
For all their ranting and raving about how "leaks" have hurt the war effort....why did Bush tell the Iraqi militias that he didn't intent to "change the course" for two years....that the world would have to wait until the next president took charge before any change could happen?
It gave the warring sectarian factions in Iraq just the reason they needed to start carving out territory, so they would be in a better position to bargain when relief finally arrives two years from now with a new pragmatic American leader. The Iraqis are not going to stop fighting until the feel there is a better alternative.
With Bush's leak, he took that hope away from them and from any others who might have been able to exert some pressure on these frustrated and angry young men. There has to be incentives for them to put down their arms.
Leaking the fact that there will be a continued foreign occupation of over 130,000 troops in their country for the rest of his term (and the prospect of permanent bases for decades after that) was not the right clue to leak out to the world...or to any GOP leaning independents.
Let's hope Bush has come to his senses.

That Bush denounced the NJ Supreme Court ruling is just amazing, since the ruling was very similar to the position Bush took just before the 2004 election when he said he was in favor of civil unions.
I'd like to hear Bush try to explain the very small difference between the civil union position he took in 2004 (which Cheney has publicly been in favor of since 2000), and the position of the NJ Supreme Court which he denounced yesterday as dangerous to the institution of marriage and "family values".

Kristen,
I hope this election will mark the beginning of the end of all this division and a return to working for the common good. A sence of community and purpose must be restored.
IMO, our nation has been under attack from within as well as from outside. This negative attitude, all gloves off brawling, and wasteful spending and borrowing has wasted so much of our human resources...and our treasury.
Meanwhile the challenges facing us have only multipled. We must get back to agreeing to disagree instead of trying to destroy each other's postition.

Seriously folks, I still dont see a united Democratic Party.. There is no leadership here that can mold everyone into one united machine. We are like in splinter groups.. This is terrible. Whats the National slogan? remember the republicans national slogan? "Contract with America". There is definately better leadership as far as organizing and getting the message accross in the Republican party. They know how to drive it home, Democrats need to understand this and get their act together or they will drop the ball.. again...

Suggestion.. "America - A New Course" or "American - Back On Track". And have many many photo ops with all the Democrats that are running, make people want to be with a progressive, fun united family.

Kristen...nice cartoon..enjoyed it!...Gregg...right on! The Bush administration deals in so many lies, it is hard to deal with them. On the CPI, they have manlipulated the figures to keep the reported inflation figures being reported low. They exclude several catagories, such as food and fuel, ete. The claim that the Dow is at a new high is bogus. Adjusted for inflation using thier bogus figures, to equal the previous high, the Dow would now have to be over 14,000, not 12,000. Using more realistic inflation figures of 3%, the DOW would now have to be over 16,000. So, the Pig Party has a way to go before the Dow is really equal to where it was during the Clinton Administration.

Good morning
It is so sad to see the black REPs running for various offices throughout the country working and toiling away for the black vote.
My question to them is - how can you possibly expect black folk to give you their vote when the political party that you represent has made it open season on taking your ethnicity and portraying hated racism to the public?
What really upsets me is the ease and quickness that the REPs have whipped out that race card and waved it around with those racist tassels blowing in the wind.

Have you heard any Democrat advocated raising taxes in the last six years? Have you noticed how no Republican finds anything wrong with using tax breaks unless it's a Democrat who is availing themselves of them?
The Republicans are running against things that don't matte or even exist. I guess it's their pre-emptive domestic strategy. Why do they constantly worry about things that may or may not happen instead of dealing with the problems we have?

There's a good op-ed by Daniel Elsberg on Buzz Flash this morning.
Daniel Ellsberg: The Next War 10/26/2006A BUZZFLASH GUEST CONTRIBUTION
by Daniel EllsbergA hidden crisis is under way. Many government insiders are aware of serious plans for war with Iran, but Congress and the public remain largely in the dark. The current situation is very like that of 1964, the year preceding our overt, open-ended escalation of the Vietnam War, and 2002, the year leading up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
In both cases, if one or more conscientious insiders had closed the information gap with unauthorized disclosures to the public, a disastrous war might have been averted entirely....

Republicans Do Nothing For Indians But Kill Them,
Take Away Their Rights, and Tell Lies About Them
Elections are fast approaching. This is a good time to remember just what are the differences between the two parties. Democrats are far from perfect. But when some of them do wrong, it’s mostly because they feel they have to act every bit as evil as Republicans, supposedly to prove they are in touch with the majority.
I just said that Republicans are evil, and when it comes to their leaders, I mean it. Most of their leaders and most of their actions HAVE been outright evil. There is no other word to describe it, and most Native people know this truth all too well. There are good reasons why 90% or more of Natives vote Democrat. With this important election coming up, let’s remember not only this disastrous war but also all the evil Republicans have done to American Indians over the years as proof that we just cannot trust this party:
The founder of the Republican Party, Horace Greeley, was a vicious racist who urged the extermination of Indians. “These people must die out.”
Abraham Lincoln had thirty-eight Santee Lakota hanged, the largest mass execution in US history. (Others wanted over 300 hanged, but Lincoln was worried this would offend people in Europe.)
A Republican general, Phil Sheridan, said, “The only good Indians is a dead Indian.” A Republican president, Teddy Roosevelt, agreed. “I believe nine out of ten are, and I shouldn’t like to inquire too closely into the case of the tenth.”
Five Republican presidents in a row, Grant, Hayes, Garfield, Arthur, and Cleveland, handed out contracts to crooked Indian agents who stole as much as they could while letting Natives starve, feeding them rancid meat and maggot-infested flour.
Republicans carried out Allotment, carving up Native reservations and selling off “surplus” land to whites, all in the name of “civilizing” Indians.
Republicans waged war on Native cultures, sending Indian children to boarding schools where they died by the thousands of disease, beating Native children for speaking their own languages, cutting their hair, forcing them to be Christian, trying to “kill the Indian, save the man.”
It was a Democrat, Franklin Roosevelt, who put a stop to Allotment and the war on culture.
Republicans lied and called what Roosevelt did “Communism.” Then Republicans tried to destroy as many tribal governments and sell off as much of the homelands as they could under Termination. Republicans under Eisenhower threw as many young Natives off the reservations as they could, dumping them in the big cities, creating red ghettos and calling it “Relocation.”
A Democrat, Johnson, signed the Civil Rights Act and quoted Dr. King, “we shall overcome.”
A Republican president, Richard Nixon, tried to crush Native civil rights and Red Power protests, sending hundreds of federal agents to Wounded Knee, spying and using informants, sending Leonard Peltier to prison on flimsy evidence.
It was a Democrat, Jimmy Carter, who finally protected Native religious rights. Carter also saved millions lives worldwide from disease and hunger and stopped or ended wars and conflicts.
Can any Republican make the same claim? No! Just the opposite:
Republican Ronald Reagan has more Native blood on his hands than any US president in history. Reagan led the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Indians in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Colombia, sending US money, US weapons, US “advisors,” and yes, US troops and US bombing missions. And he funded this by selling American weapons to Iran. Funny how the “liberal” media left all of this out when Reagan died.
Papa Bush threatened to keep the war going on against tiny Nicaragua unless the Nicaraguans voted like he wanted. All in the name of fighting “Communism,” even though almost all of the “Communists” killed were innocent Indian farmers and workers, Catholic priests, nuns, small businessmen, and labor unions.
Let’s remember that Bush Jr. started his aggression on Native people when he was still governor of Texas. He sent state police to shut down Kickapoo and Tigua casino businesses, trying to grandstand for the religious right in his state. Before casinos, the Kickapoo were so poor they lived under a bridge on the Mexican border. He only backed off when his move backfired in the polls.
Bush Jr. has sent tens of thousands of brave Native soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen to die in a war over weapons of mass destruction that were never there, to remove a dictator his father and his secretary of defense were good friends with, and to create a “democracy” in Iraq supported by torture that carries out ethnic cleansing with death squads.
Bush is building a 700-mile wall to keep millions of Indians from Mexico, Mayans, Zapotecs, Yaquis, and O’odham, from coming to the US. His party embraces the white supremacist Minutemen.
Over in California, his friend Arnold Schwarzenegger lashes out with racist speeches declaring, “The Indians are ripping us off!” He has refused to apologize, or even admit his speeches were racist.
Meanwhile, Bush Jr. has other good buddies who are ripping off Indians! His buddy Abramoff scammed millions of tribal money and got favors from the Bush White House.
Bush’s other good buddy, Ralph Reed of the “Christian Coalition,” also scammed millions. Reed and Abramoff bragged to each other about the millions they took, all the while calling Natives tribal leaders “monkeys and morons” in their phone conversations.
The Republican Party today remains filled with anti-Indian racists such as:
Pat Buchanan (“When you go into Indian territory you get tomahawked.”)
Rush Limbaugh (“American Indians…were just savages. It’s true, they damned well were.”)
Ann Coulter (“Time to pack up the tipi and hit the Trail of Tears!”)
Bill O’Reilly (“Wetbacks…they're not going to do what they're doing now.”)
Bill Newman, Talk show host (“Treason in the tipi”)
Glen Beck, Talk show Host (“Indians are using the whole ‘You took our land.’”)
What kind of American Indian would have anything to do with Republicans? Not one who remembers their people’s history, or who knows what’s good for them right now.
The worst of the worst is David Yeagley, a white supremacist who passes himself off as Comanche, playing at being a professional token Indian for racist causes. Let’s see what kind of a man he is, in his own words:
"Indian men...deserve to be on the bottom of the barrel. They cannot appreciate good will, they are possessed by envy, and have no higher thought than lies.”
“It’s their people [white racists] that created America, not Indians. Only a diabolically self-righteous liberal politician would take America out of the hands that created it, and give it to those who either lost it, or never had anything to do with it…The white blood flowing is the purest I’ve ever seen."
"Superior beauty is in the white race"
"These days the white woman is expected to humble herself before the darkie."
"Judeo-Christian religion allowed the European Caucasian race to advance above all other people. The darker races now encroach through integration and intermarriage."
“Maybe Hitler was partially right.”
Yeagley has written plenty of racist articles, and plenty of ridiculous ones too that show him to be an out of touch white imposter playing at being an Indian. One of the most laughable was entitled, “Democrats Do Nothing For Indians.”
To that I respond, “Republicans Do Nothing For Indians, Except Kill Them, Take Away Their Rights, and Tell Lies.”
Let’s all remember that when we vote, and let’s get our men and women in Iraq home quickly.

For those Wellstone fans out there, here's a good take on the Michael J. Fox stem cell controversy. And I'm history. later.
Opinion Stem Cell Politics John Nichols Wed Oct 25The Nation -- The last day that I spent with Paul Wellstone began on a sunny morning in the living room of his St. Paul home. I'd arrived to join him as he campaigned for reelection in what was widely seen as the most hotly contested Senate race in the nation.
But when I walked in, Wellstone was not making calls for campaign contributions or rehearsing soundbites.
He was reading.
Wellstone was a passionate reader. He always had a new book under his arm. And he read widely -- far beyond the confines of the history, biography and public-policy shelves that political figures tend to frequent.
On that last day, he was reading Michael J. Fox's 2002 book, Lucky Man: A Memoir.
Wellstone couldn't stop talking about the actor's autobiography, especially the sections where Fox wrote about his struggle with Parkinson's disease. The senator from Minnesota, whose parents had suffered from that ailment and who had himself been recently diagnosed with a mild form of multiple sclerosis, related to what he was reading.
He went on at some length about how important it was for prominent people to be open about their chronic conditions. He felt it helped promote understanding and empathy, which in Wellstone's view was often the first step toward poliical engagement...

Rumors flying out of the US Justice Department say that three new indictments in the Jack Abramoff bribery scandal are now prepared but are being held back until after Election Day.The few remaining Democratic attorneys in the Bush Justice Department have been grumbling about the obvious political agenda behind this delay. Republicans say that the American people don't know what they'll get out of a Democratic leadership, when it comes to the topic of Iraq. They say that all the Democrats have suggested is that things are not going well in Iraq and that no alternative strategy has been suggested. They are, of course, wrong in suggesting such a thing. They are in fact describing the Republican campaign leading up to the 2000 election, and we see what that did to Iraq.

Bush, Cheney and Lieberman----the only ones still saying Stay the Course!!!!
VIDEO CUP OF JOE: Joe Parrots Bush on Stay the Course
A few days ago, the Democratic National Committtee released a hard-hitting web ad showing just how committed to "stay the course" President Bush really is, and just how dishonest it is for him to now claim he's "never been" for stay the course. Unfortunately, the effort to continue pushing this destructive "stay the course" policy in Iraq is not limited to the President – it is also being pushed by Senator Joe Lieberman.
To see what this means, we've created a remixed version of the DNC's ad to illustrate just how closely Lieberman's rhetoric pushing "stay the course" while denying he's for "stay the course" matches the behavior of President Bush. The video makes clear that regardless of the Nixonian deception coming from Bush and Lieberman, it is clear that they are very committed to continuing the Iraq War indefinitely.
You can see the video clip at:

It will be interesting whether the Bush Administration will stage another phony "Iraq progress" news conference today. The lies and falsehoods all started a couple days ago with the absurd news conference in Iraq when General George Casey and the American Ambassador to Iraq claimed some sort of "bench marks" agreement with the Iraqi government, but couldn't even manage ine single member of the Iraqi government to add credibility to this politically based lie that an agreement was reached. The next day, Bush futhered the outright lie by claiming "progress" in Iraq, while all signs the war is worsening. And yesterday, Donald Rumsefeld just acted testy to reporters, not even bothering to offer the same sort of lies that General Casey and Bush have been dumping on the public the least couple of days.
The Iraqi government has already attacked the White House as false that they have agreed to any "benchmarks" for progress. Quite the contrary they proved that they will not be held to any American performance standards for progress. And the Iraqi government has condemned an "unauthorized" U.S. attack on a Shia death squad leader's headquarters. Such killers are actually protected by the corrupt Iraqi government.
The simple truth is that when moderate secularist, Allawi ran a poor third in the Iraqi elections, the winning Shiite coalition brought a bunch of Shiiite militia groups into firm control of the Iraqi government. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki gets much of his political strenth from the 40 seats held by the Cleric Sadr's militia group and the Badr Brigade and more of the 23 militia groups active in Iraq. The Shiite dominated Iraqi government would like to direct as much military activity as possible to stomping out Sunni organizations, but wants a "hands off" approach to their murderous Shia militias. Iraqi Prime Minister al-Maliki even voiced support for the Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist organization during he recent war with Israel.
Given this politial reality, there is no real way to expect peace in Iraq with this current government of militia groups and politicians that defend the militia groups. If the U.S. military really only acts with the approval of this corrupt government, then we can never hope to eliminate the worst elements that futher sectarian violence in Iraq.
But a Republican Congress that only works two days a week average, and has but just two children in Iraq, is only too happy to take political benefit of any Bush Administration lies of progress in Iraq so they can be re-elected so they can work on improving their golf scores or hobnobing with the powerful industry lobbyists who outnumber Congresspersons by 60 to one in Washington. The Republican "do nothing" Congress is far worse than 1948 when Harry Truman urged voters to throw them out. Keeping the peace is just one critical area where the "no nothing" Republicans have miserably failed the voters.

As Ted Rall wrote should the Democrats take control of Congress: "All of the Bush-era attacks on freedom and decency must go: the MCA, Detainee Treatment Act, Terrorist Surveillance Program Act legalizing spying on our phone calls and e-mail without a warrant, and the USA-Patriot Act. Concentration camps at Guantánamo, Bagram and Abu Ghraib, as well as the CIA's "secret prisons" in Eastern Europe and Central Asia and the vile program of "extraordinary renditions" (torture outsourcing) should be closed at once."
May I add that impeachment of this little Hitler should be at the top of the list, along with a full investigation of the Cheney-run "Office of Special Plans" and how they stovepiped cherry-picked, unvetted intelligence to the top in order to justify the Iraq invasion.
If you guys are going to continue to merely kiss Bush's ass and not hold his criminal regime accountable, then you are no better than the stinking Republicans - and I will never support you again.
You are about to be presented with a golden opportunity to do the right thing for America and our Constitution. Don't blow it.

Here's WHY:
WASHINGTON — The Congressional Budget Office on Thursday estimated that the federal deficit will decline to $260 billion this year but will increase to $286 billion next year.
The agency estimated total deficits over the next decade at $1.76 trillion.

For several years, China’s loans have helped to keep prices and interest rates low in the United States, and to finance big tax cuts. If the lending began to dry up — because Chinese officials decided to diversify into other currencies or to spend more at home — prices, interest rates and taxes in the United States would very likely rise. If the loans dried up quickly — a worst-case scenario — the result could be a sharp financial crisis. A gradual shift could mean a long downward trend in American living standards as a higher cost of living took its toll.

Clinton and Kerry ticket in 2008! I like Obama as much as the next person. It probably doesn't matter that I am a black woman, but I will note it.
I expect that I am not alone in the pretense that the rebellion in Iraq is not a religious rebellion it is the rebellion to our efforts to occupy. I am reasonably sure that if an attempt to occupy America occurred that each of us would be fighting as well. They would probably call us Christian lunatics but really it wouldn't be the religion would it? The fight between the 2 popular sects is beginning to look like an American invoked divide and conquer effort, which at the end of the day will lead to further displacement of people. I see the Iraq war as a modern day Christopher Columbus attempt that encourages and ending in genicide just to acquire the lands wealth at the end of it all.
How sad!!!!

President Bush reserved the right to ignore key changes in Congress's overhaul of the Federal Emergency Management Agency -- including a requirement to appoint someone with experience handling disasters as the agency's head -- in setting aside dozens of provisions contained in a major homeland security spending bill this week.
Besides objecting to Congress's list of qualifications for FEMA's director, the White House also claimed the right to edit or withhold reports to Congress by a watchdog agency within the Department of Homeland Security that is responsible for protecting Americans' personal privacy.

By contrast, ten minutes from you today is ten minutes towards bringing our brave men and women home from Iraq.
Short and sweet, here's the ask: please click any of the links in this email; use the tool to find family, friends and neighbors you know in Connecticut; type out a short note explaining why you support Ned Lamont ... and you're done.
We'll send them your personalized message on a physical postcard direct to their mailbox, on our dime.
Can we count on your ten minutes for change this afternoon?
www.familyfriendsandneighbors.com
Your participation this afternoon will go a long way towards doing something Joe Lieberman refuses to: hold our elected officials responsible for the quagmire in Iraq.
Joe sponsored the original regime change resolution in the Senate, has voted against every serious bill attempting to change the course, and even bragged about President Bush actually enforcing his policy in Iraq.
And now Joe's gotta go.
Ten minutes for change. Find your family, friends and neighbors and send them a personalized physical postcard today.

Opportunities like this simply don't happen in politics. Are you going to use it or lose it?
We made history on August 8th and are only days away from doing it again November 7th.
But it's going to take a lot of work between now and then to make it happen. Everything we accomplished continues with your ten minutes on the computer this afternoon.
Can we count on you again today?

Here's an interesting piece from The Guardian (UK)
Paraguay in a spin about Bush's alleged 100,000 acre hideaway
Rumours of Mr Bush's supposed forays into South American real estate surfaced during a recent 10-day visit to the country by his daughter Jenna Bush. Little is known about her trip to Paraguay, although officially she travelled with the UN children's agency Unicef to visit social projects. Photographers from the Paraguayan newspaper ABC Color tracked her down to one restaurant in Paraguay's capital Asunción, where she was seen flanked by 10 security guards, and was also reported to have met Paraguay's president, Nicanor Duarte, and the US ambassador to Paraguay, James Cason. Reports in sections of the Paraguayan media suggested she was sent on a family "mission" to tie up the land purchase in the "chaco".
http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,1928928,00.html
I've written to a number of U.S. news organizations asking that they look into this and clarify the situation.
Perhaps Bush is anticipating impeachment and, like his Nazi predecessors, will seek safe have in Paraguay.
Or, perhaps THIS is behind it:
Noble Prize winner Argentinean Adolfo Perez Esquivel warned that the real war will be fought not for oil, but for water, and recalled that Acuifero Guaraní [site of the rumored Bush land purchase] is one of the largest underground water reserves in South America, running beneath Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay (larger than Texas and California together).

And, I already supported the troops, up until my yellow ribbon magnet fell off my car. It cost me $2.99 and left a dirt impression on the back of my bumper. Isn't that enough support?? And, who cares if we can't pay for the fence our congress just voted for? We can get some cheap labor from the Mexicans that came over here to work. After they build the fence, we can show them the door, er, gate. Yep, no more tax hikes! It's every man for himself!
Maybe if we asked every republican crook to empty out his lobbied-money lined pockets we could make up the deficit.

This is what I mean about the DNC and Dean, NO LEADERSHIP!!.. NO FORWARD VISION ON WINNING!!, They expect to things to fall in their lap seperately instead of driving it home united. re: "Republicans are so much organized that Democrats"
It's natural for right wingers -- they all think (to use the term very loosely) alike. They love that goosestepping style and for them, conformity is what it's all about. They live in a narrow, black and white world.
Democrats, on the other hand, are all too wild and crazy to be so organized. We're a free-thinking bunch of non-conformists.
I suggest we simply out-breed the Republicans. So, everyone off to bed and get to work!

Navies help keep guard up on Gulf oil facilitiesBy Stefano Ambrogi
LONDON (Reuters) - Coalition naval forces are helping to guard vital oil installations in the Gulf as part of heightened security following an Al Qaeda threat last month, naval sources said on Friday.
In their sights are Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura terminal, the world's biggest offshore oil export facility, and Bahrain's Bapco refinery.
"Acting on information received, Coalition naval forces, operating in support of Saudi and Bahraini forces have deployed units to counter a possible maritime threat to the oil facilities at Ras Tanura," Britain's Royal Navy in Dubai said in a statement....

Fortunately we all agree on one thing: this country is in the mess it is because of King George and a slew of republican crooks who were "elected" and think nothing of taking our money for their own benefit. We will continue to fight for change for the benefit of all Americans.

What do you think the release of these most repulsive photos from Abu Graibe will affect the political climate?
My husband took one look and said never, ever bring them up on our computer again....it was the sickest form of pronography imaginable. How anyone could do that to another human being, much less a young kid who probably wasn't even the target but only being used as a pawn to make a father/uncle/brother talk.
I can't believe the things that have happened in the last six years since the abuse of power started in this country.
Sorry for the inexcusably bad table conversation at lunch.
I need to get back to work. later.
Posted by SandyH on October 27, 2006 at 01:05 PM
Sorry, but "one nation " 'under God' " was added to the Pledge of Allegience in the 1950's. The Pledge wasn't written until the late 19th Century / very early 20th Century.
This Country was founded under "WE THE PEOPLE", which are the FIRST 3 words of the Constitution. Not "Some of the People", or "We the Small minded", or "We the Bigots".
What part of "Equal Justice Under Law" allows for Government sanctioned discrimination?
And what about the people who think the Bible is just a nice work of fiction?
This Country WAS NOT founded as a "Christian" Country, and that was put in writing in the TREATY OF TRIPOLI, which clearly states:
"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

Truth, I have always been more of an independent, than anything else...up until King George invaded a sovereign nation in my name and the name of my fellow Americans. I was raised by a republican, have republican friends and relatives and usually have interesting discussions with them. I know the enemy. Unfortunately, the republican party doesn't know that they have been corrupted by that enemy. And, why go to the trouble of looking at the RNC page? You can just as easily learn the spin of the day by listening to most network news or radio. See, they no longer investigate they just regurgitate. I also tend to look for the good in people, including those in this party and not be the gloomy naysayer. We have enough of those on right wing radio pointing out our real weaknesses as well as the slew that are imagined and/or fabricated.
I have hope for America, no matter how much the republican party has tried to kill it. Why are you joining in on the bloodsport?

The Bush family is not destitute and it would probably take a forensic accountant to figure out what they HAVEN'T profited from since Jr. ascended to the Presidency, but it is a curious thought as to where they funneled that money from.

POSTED: 11:49 a.m. EDT, October 27, 2006
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House said Friday that Vice President Dick Cheney was not talking about a torture technique known as "water boarding" when he said dunking terrorism suspects in water during questioning was a "no-brainer."
Human rights groups complained that Cheney's comments amounted to an endorsement of water boarding, in which the victim believes he is about to drown.
...tony snow explained that the vice presidunce thought he was being asked plucking the eyes from babies and eating them which is of course a custom in his cultural group...

With the 3Q06 GDP @ 1.6%, and Inflation @ 2.5%, that puts the economy in STAG-FLATION. This is the 2nd Quarter in a row, and the USA is in a STAG-FLATION period.
During this period, the DOW is above 12,000 and Wall Street is having its own inside party as the middle class and poor suffer.
The White House & Treasury Secretary have been funneling taxpayer funds and 5.0 trillion in debt to Wall Street to inflate the DOW running up to the 2006 Elections. The Treasury Secretary has no problem with this fraud, because he is entrenched with Wall Street ties, and burying future generations is not a concern.
The GAO and OMB are aware of this manipulation but are on the sidelines for fear of retaliation.
Look for the Labor Dept. to inflate October payrolls for the monthly jobs report the week before the Elections.
The VP is the fraud puppet master for money, power, and votes.

Harold Ford Jr. is down slightly in the TN senate race now, with a big debate tomorrow night in Nashville. But, 4 soldiers from Ft. Campbell (north of Nashville) have died in Iraq in the past two weeks. This is no good for anyone, but there's only 1 thing more politically powerful in Tennessee than Jesus, and that's a dead soldier !!!

I guess Matt Lauer knows about Parkinson's Disease. I also think he's lost it since Katie left him. Maybe it's time for him to go too.

A word on tactics.
It has been obvious to me for some time that Republicans will sink to some pretty low lows in order to get what they want. (John McCain learned first hand just how low they will sink when his bid for the Republican nomination was destroyed by a con job brought forth by Bush supporters.) I bring this up because it is also obvious that we have a few Republican terrorists posting here, on democrats.org, and no doubt have been since the site first came online.
As posts from these individuals are easily identifiable, I find no reason to take action, at this time. I'd like to know what others are thinking about this though, so please respond.
Thank you.

Dave? Dave's not here.
Bush swung through Des Moines, Iowa, at lunchtime to raise $400,000 for the state Republican Party and congressional candidate Jeff Lamberti, whom the president mistakenly called "Dave" throughout his speech.
