Kansas - Changing Hues
Back in June, we looked at the recent trend in Kansas, that saw more and more Republicans fleeing the GOP and finding a home in the Democratic Party. We heard from Kansas Democratic Party Chairman, Larry Gates, who commented:
These former Republicans are joining the Democratic Party because they recognize that Governor Sebelius and Kansas Democrats are committed to finding commonsense solutions to the issues faced by all Kansans.Governor Sebelius and Democrats are bringing Kansans together to move our state forward while the Kansas Republican Party is dividing Kansans with the same old partisan bickering. Kansans know our candidates are dedicated to putting progress ahead of partisanship, and the best interests of the people of Kansas ahead of anything else.
Well, today, an article in the Washington Post has people taking another look at Kansas, this time with the 2006 elections around the corner. And, over at MyDD, Jonathan looks the results:
Kansas is a thoroughly Republican state, as it has been since it entered the union nearly 150 years ago. It has been more than 70 years since the state elected a Democratic Senator, something it has only done four times in its history. Yet today, the state appears on track to reelect its Democratic Governor as well as throw out its ultra-conservative Republican Attorney General; polling released Monday by SurveyUSA shows Gov. Kathleen Sebelius holding a 13-point lead over her Republican challenger and Democrat Paul Morrison maintaining a nearly identical lead over the incument Attorney General Phill Kline.
Jonathan also gives the 50-State Stragey some props:
...it is so important that the DNC under Howard Dean has invested in Kansas, as it has in other states. I do not mean to overstate the extent to which the DNC's actions have fostered this potentially changing environment; the hubris and extremeness of Republican politicians in Kansas, as well as the political deftness of Governor Sebelius, have been at the root of these movements. Nonetheless, by putting boots in the field, the DNC is enabling Democrats in Kansas to capitalize on the situation in the state and help woo voters who had not previously even considered voting the Democratic ticket. And, who knows? The investment made today in Kansas by the DNC could make Kansas slightly more purple and enable Democrats to compete in more elections in the state in the future and, more importantly, force the Republicans to play defense in what has historically been a safe state for their party.

With that side mouthed smurk that resembles a Mafia Don , Bush and Cheney are up to their same old crap.Chenney say's "if we run they will come after us" who the hell is they??????
Just take a minute and look at the record. Bush got us into this war in Iraq against the asvice of the UN, and he tried to scare us all about the WMD's,which weren't there. Bush landed on a carrier with a big flag "mission accomplished, but he didn't say what mission. Since then we have sacrificed the lives of thousands of American troops,"National Guard" by the way,and with his god ole boy smile Bush is telling us thAT We are safer now than ever...WH???????????at.
today we are losing more troops than ever, thousands of Iraq people are being slaughtered by their own people, The president of Iraq wants us out ,and Bush is still saying "stay the corse" WHAT course. Korea is now a nuclear power, and Bush is opening his big mouth again and saying that we will "take it seriously" and we will defend Japan. thats all well and god, but he didn't say what we would use to do all this.Unless he calls up the ROTC........So Bush is shaking his fist, and Chenney is worried about "they" will come after us. Hell Mr Chenney if "They wanted to come after us "they" would already be here and you wouldn't even know it.
Now we have a threat agaiinst 5 or 6 stadiums on sunday for a dirty bomb attack which if it happened it would because we haven't done the job of securing our ports, or our airports.
If "They" are going to come after us your old buddy Mr Dumsfield might want to tell us why our billon dollar missle defense system doesn't work.
I am no political genius and I can't spell to good, but I do know that in the lasy 6 years our country has taken so many steps backward it's really not funny anymoore."They" seem to have done a lot of work on the side, and we haven't done anything about it.
We are spending 11 billion dollars a day in a war we can't win, the gulf coast is still like a third world country, with wild animals and jungle growth taking over where once neibors talked across the fences. 2/3 of the country has no health insurance, I am a Vet and my teeth are rotting out of my head because I can't get a dentist to talk to me because I am low income. And because I am a vet I can't get madicaide to fix my teeth. My wife is depending on getting doctors samples of her heart medication because we don't have the 175.00 a month to but it. I can't call on "they" to help me with that either.
Mr Bush you are probably a very nice man you said on your interview the other night you were compassionate, but you really need to start listening to those people who are trying to give you some sound advice.
We are done in Iraq, and it should be up to them to put their country back together just like they have done for the past 8 centuries. This country should get back to being a team player and let the knowlegable folks at the UN do something about North Korea, and we should take a step back and see what we can do abut protecting our own ass against all of the "they's" that really are out there.
Sir I am a proud Veteran, and a Proud American, an a very Proud Democrat.I would like for my grand children to have a country to grow up in that is safe, and peaceful and lets the rest of the world go by.

If Sebelius is so great, and has done such a great job as governor as she claims, then why is Kansas at the bottom of the list for employment opportunities, top of the list for ILLEGAL IMIGRATION oportunities, and # 48 for education of it's students?
Also, why does she ALWAYS choose republicans for her RUNNING mate??? Is it because she likes to play both sides against the other for her own best interests???
It's great to hear that Democrats are finally giving Kansas a little attention. After having grown up there, then moving to California (and back to Kansas for a short 6 months), I know that most people I know in Kansas don't know nor do they care about politics, mostly because they are not told of most things going on in the world. Local news tells nothing of the world or politics. People don't even know if they are registered to vote or not. I'd love to see Kansas adopt the ease of registration of California. Here, you are able to register when you get or renew your drivers license with nothing more than a signature. Go Dems!!!
