WY-AL: Reprehensible

This report from the Jackson Hole Star Tribune is truly disturbing. GOP Congresswoman Cubin needs to go:
The Libertarian challenger for Wyoming’s lone U.S. House seat says Rep. Barbara Cubin offended him by uttering a slur related to his physical disability.
Thomas Rankin said Cubin approached him after a campaign debate on Sunday and said, "If you weren't sitting in that chair, I'd slap you across the face."
The Cubin campaign did not deny the remark, but a spokesman for the six-term congresswoman said Rankin started the exchange.
So what happened? According to the Star Tribune:
After the cameras and lights were shut off, Cubin walked on the stage behind Trauner and then to Rankin, who was still sitting at the table, Rankin said.
Rankin, who is disabled with multiple sclerosis and uses an electric wheelchair, had not moved yet.
While his aide Jeremy Moniz was helping him, Moniz heard Cubin's comment, too.
"She came right up and said it," Moniz said.
Rankin didn't say anything to Cubin before she confronted him, he said.
"It took me totally off guard," he said. "I said, 'Barbara, if you feel the need to slap me, go right ahead.'"
Cubin then turned around and walked away.
Rankin called her comment an inappropriate slur to the disabled.
This is just another, in a long line, of desperate moves by the GOP - who is so scared of losing power that they will resort to personal attacks, lies and smears every time.
Luckily, for Wyoming and for the United States Congress, Democrat Gary Trauner, who is running against Cubin, is an honorable man who will represent all the people of Wyoming with dignity.

"... by the GOP, who is"? The GOP, which stands for an entire group of people surely are "who are" -- which is a minor point. May major reaction to the blog posting is that I don't really believe the newspaper account. I'm prepared to support almost any democratic candidate over virtually any republican, but this isn't the way to convince that someone "has to go." I've given up on most of America's press long ago and I'm oh so very tired of smears by either camp. You can't put me off voting, but you can insult my intelligence, and you have.
Sincerely,
Abigail
p.s. and my money is where my mouth is -- I've volunteered to work in my local district -- in case you were wondering.

For me the story reported about the slurs uttered by Rep. Cubin to Mr Rankin, define the GOP which has shown a repeated lack of moral ethic, and conscience in their leadership; especially to their average, fellow citizen's ...The very people they were elected to represent. Americans come in all shapes, sizes, colors and states of health or wealth. I find it particularly despicable her childish threat to Mr Rankin.
Ms Cubin, clearly exhibits poor behavior when she slurs her contender, who also happens to have Multiple sclerosis and is in a wheelchair, just like so many other Americans.
Mr Rankin meanwhile showed a remarkable sense of calm, and dignity; a sure sign he is a man ready to handle the position. Unfortunately, Cubin demonstrated the true colors, the insensitivity and the underbelly of the Republican Party with her slurs. I see this increasingly everyday. (Can you say Katrina and not think of the GOP?)
The GOP are failing to be sympathetic about representing any interests of our individuals in this American landscape. They forfeit their duty to, "We The People," and serve only Corporate interest's while ignoring Public interest's almost entirely; their ideology dictates no affinity for programs or consideration for those whom depart from their goals. Her remarks clearly showed this problem and the disdain she and the GOP have for their fellowman, in my view.
Ms Cubin lacks self-control and this makes her an unfit candidate to manage our aging American population and that is exactly what America will be confronting as the Baby-Boomer's retire. They may be in scooter's too-no doubt. She is no example of how you treat any person standing, sitting or one who happens to be in a wheelchair. Civilization will judge how we treat the weakest, sickest or oldest among us...
George Washington said: "Labor to keep alive in your breast that little celestial spark of fire called Conscience."
I am sorry but history shows that the Grand Old Party is a party interested in big business and Hoover proved this and at America's expense.
I view the party as "The Mean Old Party" who just does not like the average Joe too much, especially if they may be in need. They pass Bills which put our families under, like the Bankruptcy Bill. Just review the Bills that the GOP signed into Law and you will find out who your GOP IS...These are Bills that hurt the average American with a health problem.
Hat's off to Mr Rankin; He reminds me of one of our greatest Presidents, FDR. I hope he follows in this man's footsteps, which were ironically impaired by polio.
