Wow! 21 seats and the West yet to come. The wave has come true. I think we will pick up over 30 seats at least.

Guys,

What I've been realizing recently is how important it is to have a balance of republican and democratic power in DC (ie. republican executive branch and democratic legislative). When we take the house we need to be respectful of the other side and work with them. They represent half of the electorate and we need to reach out. I hope our leaders do this and don't try to punish the republicans for their recent behavior. Don't gloat either the winds can just as easily switch back. Just work hard and fix the mess our country is now in.

Cheers,
Randy

Ok, I know everyone of our leaders deserves credit for the good night tonight...but I think that the inspiration and enthusiasm Dean gave us was contagious. I have never worked so hard politically. He has that thing about him...he says go out and work and we do.

So thanks, Howard Dean, especially for tonight.

Take a bow.

Rumsfeld To Go

Donald Rumsfeld the failed US Defence Secretary and one of the main architects of the failed Iraq invasion and occupation, will be leaving office before the end of this year.

Candidates to replace him are being approached, two have already declined the poison chalice. However, it is expected that Senator John Warner will replace him.

At the time of writing the Democrats have swept to power in Congress, the final results for the Senate are yet to be announced. Dick Cheney, another man with blood on his hands, has gone shooting.

THANK YOU Gov. Dean! You're the BEST! I love you!

Now we've got to defend these seats, especially SPEAKER PELOSI. It took too long for the media to pick up on the agenda outlined by Dems. The 104th Contract had much more press than our plan. We got to keep working on getting our message and plan out.

Also, it looks like we won the Senate too. Woohoo!

It's a beautiful morning!

The weather yesterday in Missouri was the perfect metaphor, it started out cold, drizzly and foggy but as afternoon rolled around the clouds broke up, the sun started to shine and a new Senator was elected!! Congratulation to our of our hard working elected officials, huge congratulation to Dr. Dean-way to show them how to win Doc! I'm still pinching myself, have to go pick up my paper and read some more!

Now the Senate. Something told me it would be this close.

For the first time in the history of New Hampshire we are sending a woman to Congress, the winner in District 01, Carol Shea-Porter. She won with a completely grassroots campaign. Her entire staff was made up of volunteers many of whom were former volunteers on the Dean campaign. She beat a two term incumbent Republican millionaire. She did it with only $300,000 in her campaign.

She has never held an elective office before, but she had a message over hype. The DCCC ignored her completely in the Primary and backed a loser of a candidate. Then when Carol won the Primary, the DCCC cut their losses and ran. Then 4 days before the election, when she ws climbing in the polls and was within 5 percentage points of incumbent Republican Jeb Bradley, the DCCC wanted to give her money. She turned them down flat...because she would have had to sell her soul to them and besides she was winning without their help. She was winning with us, the grassroots volunteers who believed in her from the very beginning. The DCCC wanted her to "hire THEIR people", "use THEIR ads (which were all negative)" and the worst of all....win or lose she would have had to promise to go dialing for dollars and pay back the DCCC every cent they would have given her. So it is all the more sweet that she won because of all us grassroots supporters and won with her own talent and integrity. This is the kind of victory we can truly celebrate.

Dear Governor Dean,

Your 50 state strategy worked miracles in New Hampshire. Not only did we unseat two Republican incumbents and send Democrats to Congress, but for the FIRST TIME IN 150 YEARS, since 1856, since before the Civil War....Democrats have won the New Hampshire House 234 to 166 and we won 14 of the 24 Senate seats. God bless you Howard Dean and your 50 state strategy!

Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard on this victory. Win or lose, we ran good candidates with the first good organization on the ground that we've had in a long time.

This T.V. thing that Bush has schedualed for 11am could be very interesting....Is he going to reach out to work with the Dem's?....or is he going to say that he is still cammander in chief and going to stay the courde in Iraq?.....or is he going to announce that he and Cheney are going to resign, leave for Paraguay and leave this mess for the new President, Nancy Pelosi to clean up?......sound far out?....it isn't, I don't believe Bush will complete his term of office....As Sgt. Schultz on the old "Hogan's Heros" TV show used to say, This could be VERLYYYYY INTERESTING!!!

Out here in Idaho Dems were looking good too and for a while it looked as if we might join the rest of you. Many races were CLOSE by 2 AM. Local party said no one to give a consession speech.
THEN problems in 3 counties counting and thier results were delayed and one other county reported software probs and WITHDREW all its announced results since midnite to review. When finals came in all REPUGS had thier expected victories.
THREE OF THE FOUR counties in question are the Democrat strongholds and Dems WON there but all the state and Natl offices went (R)

heathenjohn on November 8, 2006 at 09:07 AM

I have polled my GOP colleagues and they are expecting the DEM's to tie up Congress with indictments and remain unclear about the civil war in Iraq. We have all heard it before...since we are in Iraq, it is our job to stay and make it stable or even better, the GOP faithful are joking that Pelosi is waiting for the Baker report (he and a couple of other Republicans)...so...why cant the DEMs line up on this issue with the American voters and say... WE ARE LEAVING IRAQ! The speech by Pelosi stating that we "need a new direction in Iraq" is fence sitting...take a stand and the Americans will support you...and that is the path to the White House. Remain ambiguous, sympathetic and uncertain and the DEM's will never win the civil war or the White House in 2008.

We cannot determine the future of Iraq and if we split it into Sunni, Shii and Kurd, it will provide easy pickins for the neighbors Syria, Iran and others..in short, the people will ultimately decide what they want and are we prepared to lose thousands of American lives and spend billions only to re learn what the US did with the Shah of Iran? History should be our guide on this topic.

America is expecting and deserves decisive action on the civil war that we started. Chris Matthews and Keith Olberman made comments about Sen Clinton and others and their unwillingness to take a truthful stand on Iraq...why is this? If Sen Clinton expects the DEM nomination, she needs to learn about real leadership...fornow...my money is on Obama and the GOP does not want that fight.

good morning, Democrats {{{Page}}}

Kelly, i wish that those of you in those dark rethug places could have spent the day with me, yesterday. when we opened our polling place (on time), the Democratic committee chairpeople arrived. They knew their constituents. They hugged them, inquired about their health, their parents, the weddings and the funerals. They had candy for the children and they showed that genuine, neighborly love that Jesus mentioned a few times.

There was no bullying, threatening, or any type of dirty trick. Nothing negative to do. We have our party structure firmly established, and we continue to work hard. Nobody took anything for granted. We shared staff from county to county as they needed assistance. We had dedicated and appreciative campaign leaders.

Our long-term incumbent state senator's wife baked home made chocolate chip cookies for us. Frequently.

Wish you were here.

Tracy,

Thanks so much for all the difficult work and long hours you've put in to support everyone out in the wilderness. Yesterday, we pushed back against an almighty and singularly unholy alliance of corporate fascists and religious extremists. Good and sane CAN win against those who would pillage and rape the treasury while shredding the Constitution. We just had to want to badly enough.

Victory is so sweet!

We now have control of the House and we are still awaiting the results of Testa and Webb. But we have to await the recount.

Those nasty gops lost -- and now we will bring this fascist government down!

Congrats to all, but I am still so sad about Lamont.

41
PeppermintLizzy on November 8, 2006 at 09:56 AM

PeppermintLizzy is on the money about Ned Lamont. It is a sham that lieberman was able to go independent and win...last night they spoke about how he always takes care of his special interests and thats why he won...is that what we want our govt to be?

America should be our special interest. Bring home all of our troops (So Korea, Germany, everywhere) and support the Blue Helmuts only...you will see China start to police No Korea as it is in their regional interest to do so...the world has changed and USA needs to re position itself away from post wwII/cold war strategies.
We need REAL leadership, not half measures and placating of special interests.

andie417 on November 8, 2006 at 11:45 AM

Dean for President?
I think a Dean/Obama ticket in 2008 could win. DEM's must not lose sight of the real prize because two years will fly by. The GOP wants the DEM's to focus on haggling about GOP intiatives but thats not the way to victory. Bold new plans must be drawn and introduced fast including:

-Immediate withdrawl from Iraq;
-Healthcare & prescription drug reform;
-Social Security reform;
-Immigration policy that respects our borders while acknowledging we have 15 million workers with families that could earn-out their citizenship;
-Responsible Tax policy that doesnt return to a graduated tax againct the rich...A heavy Flat Tax of 25% with no income tax for families earning less than $40,000, would yield more income to the govt for programs

The GOP expects the DEM's to return to the party of old (tax and spend) but i think a Reagan Democrat will win the WH in 2008.

49
Page on November 8, 2006 at 11:49 AM

To my Georgia brethren, I too am sorry that many in our state are not quite ready to climb out of the dark ages. We're stuck with the same do-nothing governor that lied his way into office by promising a return to the previous state confederate flag. Although a long shot, Steve Sinton really would have well represented this state on the national scene. We really need to put Price on notice that he will be watched carefully. But I am enjoying this great victory now and hoping for the US Senate. Thanks to the great efforts of the North Fulton and Cobb County Democrats!

I have, for many years, not had any faith in our system but has returned with the change already occuring. Sending a message, finally, to President Bush. Anyways, I hope you guys are not the "rebound" party. Because this is basically what it is. People not happy with the Republicans, and choosing another party to see if there is change. Please do better than the Republicans, and listen to EVERYONE not just Democratic constituents. I think it will work. Hope someone sees this, and Congrats.

All the specifics are dizzying, but the thought that makes me giddiest is this:
THE DOCTOR IS IN.
As one of those Deanies who has suffered the slings and arrows of popular opinion, I am was delighted to think that though Dr. Dean did not become president due to our Deay efforts, he did gain his current postition, and form there engineered this 50 state success! I will always work for a candidate who lights me up. Even if s/he "can't win." There are many ways to win, not always apparent from the get go. Congrats and good job everyone - now please come for my senator Smith.

I may not be doing a very good job sleuthing today but I can't find anything about why the results in NM for the Madrid race are what they are. The only thing I've found (and I find it terribly perplexing) is this site, http://www.co.santa-fe.nm.us/elec.php, which shows the total Madrid/Wilson numbers at about 1/20 of all the other races. How is it possible that all the major races have well over 40,000 votes reported and the Madrid/Wilson race only has approximately 1900. I find it interesting that nobody seems to have picked up on the discrepancy there...

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm still amazed; Nancy Boyda defeated Jim Ryun in District #2--Topeka, east Lawrence, and most of eastern Kansas. I used to think that right-wingers owned that district, and I'm SO happy that I was wrong!

2 out of 4 of our Representatives are Democrats now. In my home district #3 (Metro Kansas City, east Lawrence) Dennis Moore got 64% of the vote--a big improvement for a Rep who used to just barely squeeze past his opponents.

We also kept Democratic governor Kathleen Sebelius, who got 58%, and replaced right-wing extremist Attorney General Phill Kline with a Democrat.

It was a great day for Kansas Democrats!

DHS: An Open Letter to the 110th United States Congress by By Miguel Contreras, Posted on Fri Nov 10th, 2006 at 12:22:34 PM EST by Narco News

To the Honorable 110th United States Congress:
Request to Immediately Initiate Congressional Hearings on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security ("DHS") and subordinate agencies: the Immigration and Customs Enforcement ("ICE"); the Customs and Border Protection (CBP); and the Citizenship and Immigration Service ("CIS") for Allegations of Corruption; Criminal Activity (including murder); Abuse of Authority; Mismanagement; Fraud and Abuse; Cronyism; Nepotism; Favoritism; Obstruction of Justice; Dereliction of Duty; Misuse of Government Funds; Providing False Information/Data and Misleading and Lying to the US Congress and Government Cover-Ups

Honorable future Speaker U.S. House Representative Nancy Pelosi, remember you voted against the creation of the Department of Homeland Security. You were right! Now you have the power to dismantle it.

On November 7, 2007, the American People finally spoke at the ballots by changing our American history.

We, the people of the United States finally changed the course of how our U.S. government will be run for the next two years and hopefully for a long generation.

The 110th Congress is respectfully requested to refer to the stories written by investigative reporters Al Giordano http://narcosphere.narconews.com/story/2005/5/24/2 22740/305, and Bill Conroy at
http://narcosphere.narconews.com/notebook/billconr oy regarding the above referenced federal agencies. The "House of Death" Murder victims and their families are crying for justice.

To give you an example of the extent of the DHS's problems managing its own agencies, I refer you to Bill Conroy's news reporting exposure on corruption at ICE and other federal agencies, by reading the following introductions of three of his stories:

"National-security trump card played in House of Death cover-up" - By Bill Conroy, Oct 28th, 2006 - Narco News

"U.S. government lawyers have reached for the ultimate weapon in the House of Death mass murder cover-up: National Security.

Once that label is successfully applied to any aspect of the case, it is a sure bet the full truth of the U.S. government's complicity in the murders will forever be suppressed.

And just what is being hidden under the trench coat of national security?

Between August 2003 and mid-January of 2004, a dozen people were kidnapped, tortured, butchered and then buried in the backyard of the House of Death — located at Calle Parsioneros 3633 in Juárez. The killers were Mexican police in league with a narco-trafficker named Heriberto Santillan Tabares, who was a top lieutenant in the Vicente Carrillo Fuentes organization.

The murders were carried out with the help of a U.S. government informant — a former Mexican cop who had attained high standing in Santillan's organization. The informant, Guillermo Ramirez Peyro, was under the watch of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and an Assistant U.S. Attorney in El Paso, Texas.

When the informant's role came to light, after his activities nearly cost the lives of a DEA agent and his family, rather than investigate the callous activities of U.S. law enforcers who allowed the informant to commit murder under government cover, the leadership of the U.S. Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, chose to bury the facts along with the bodies.

A cover-up was hatched, that continues to this day, and the high-ranking DEA agent, Sandalio Gonzalez, who blew the whistle on the whole sordid affair, became yet another victim of the House of Death — his career ruined in the aftermath of a calculated effort to silence the messenger."

"DHS, DOJ brass turned a blind eye to House of Death murder, federal prosecutor confirms"
By Bill Conroy, Sep 30th, 2006 - Narco News

"It's official: High-level officials within the departments of Justice (DOJ) and Homeland Security (DHS) did know about the activities of a U.S. government informant who supervised and participated in murder in Juárez, Mexico, and yet they allowed that informant to continue his bloody assignment in what is now known as the House of Death case.

A sworn legal affidavit recently obtained by Narco News that was prepared by the U.S. prosecutor (Juanita Fielden) who oversaw the House of Death case confirms that fact.

Fielden's affidavit is included as an exhibit in a civil rights case filed against U.S. law enforcement officials by the families of the victims in the House of Death mass murder. That case is currently pending in U.S. District Court in El Paso, Texas.

Between August 2003 and mid-January of 2004, a dozen people were kidnapped, tortured and butchered at the House of Death located at Calle Parsioneros 3633 in Juárez. Those murders were carried out with the help of the U.S. government informant, who had penetrated a Juárez cell of the Vicente Carrillo Fuentes' (VCF) narco-trafficking organization.

During the course of those murders, the informant, Guillermo Ramirez Peyro, a former Mexican cop, was under the supervision of federal agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Fielden was the Assistant U.S. Attorney in El Paso assigned to oversee the case.

When the informant's role came to light publicly, after his activities nearly cost the lives of a DEA agent and his family, rather than investigate the callous actions of U.S. law enforcers who allowed the informant to commit murder under government cover, the fearless leadership at DOJ as well as DHS, which oversees ICE, chose to bury the facts along with the bodies. At least that is the story line conveyed by numerous law enforcement sources who have spoken with Narco News during the course of our coverage of this case.

In fact, prior Narco News reports have shown that Fielden's boss, U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, a well-wired guy within the Bush administration, conspired with the head of the DEA, Karen Tandy, to keep the informant's role in the murders out of the press and to assure that a high-ranking DEA agent, Sandalio Gonzalez, was thwarted in his efforts to expose the U.S. government's complicity in the murders. Gonzalez became yet another victim of the House of Death — his career ruined in the aftermath of a calculated effort to silence the messenger.

Up until now, the documents uncovered by Narco News in the House of Death mass murder demonstrate that high-level U.S. government officials, such as Sutton, Tandy and even the U.S. Attorney General, were at least aware of the informant's role in the murders after a dozen bodies were dug up in the back yard of the home in Juarez in early 2004."

"DEA veteran claims House of Death informant had license to murder" - By Bill Conroy, Nov 6th, 2006 - Narco News

"Narco News has been covering the House of Death mass murder story for more than two years. From the first story in the series, published in April 2004, law enforcement sources and later public documents have made it clear that a U.S. government informant participated in dozen or more murders in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, with the knowledge of U.S. law enforcers and prosecutors.

Officials with the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), for whom the informant (Guillermo Ramirez Peyro) worked, and prosecutors with the Department of Justice, who were charged with trying the case against the narco-trafficker at the center of the House of Death, have continued to either deny their complicity in the murders or simply refuse to comment on the case.

However, yet another document has come to light that supports Narco News' version of the House of Death story and casts serious doubts on the U.S. government's continued whitewashing of the facts in this case.

Even prior to this latest revelation, U.S. law enforcement sources, including Sandalio Gonzalez, the former head of DEA's El Paso, Texas, field office, have contended for some time that Homeland Security and Justice officials have actively worked to cover-up the facts of U.S. government complicity in the murders.

Seemingly adding more weight to the charges of a cover-up, U.S. government attorneys revealed recently in court pleadings related to the House of Death that DEA is considering classifying portions of a critical joint DEA/ICE report about the mass murder case by invoking the cloak of national security.

The families of the victims of the House of Death murders have filed a lawsuit alleging that ICE officials and the lead prosecutor in the House of Death case violated their constitutional rights. That litigation is currently pending in federal court in El Paso, which is just across the Rio Grande River from Juarez.

Recently, in that case, an affidavit was filed by a former high-level DEA agent, who previously served as the head of the agency's Dallas field office and as head of DEA's El Paso Intelligence Center. The former agent, Phil Jordan, and his experiences, including the murder of his brother as a result of a suspected narco-trafficker payback, are the subject of a book called "Down by the River," penned by Charles Bowden. The book is considered a seminal work on the drug war and its pernicious and bloody reach across both sides of the border.

Jordan's affidavit is a new and crucial document because it brings sharply into focus what Narco News has been reporting on the House of Death mass murder for years now. As a result, we now wish to share his testimony, provided under oath, in its entirety with you kind readers.

(Information in the affidavit below that is contained in [brackets has been added by Narco News for background purposes. ICE officials mentioned in the affidavit are identified by the titles they held at the time the House of Death played out in 2003 and early 2004.)" http://narcosphere.narconews.com/story/2006/11/6/2 11332/229

Another book I highly recommend you to read is written by DHS' former Inspector General Clark Kent Ervin titled: Open Target: "Where America Is Vulnerable to Attack" - Book Description:

"After September 11th, longtime Bush friend and aide Clark Kent Ervin was hand-picked from the State Department to be the first Inspector General of the newly created Department of Homeland Securitycharged with making America safe again. Based on shocking first-hand experiences during his tenure and the disturbing developments since his departure, Open Target is Ervins explosive account of how little prepared we are today and how far we have to go to protect ourselves from future terrorist attacks. Ervin talks candidly for the first time about how he was pressured by top leaders to sugarcoat his findings and how his refusal to spin the truth and toe the party line ultimately led to his forced departure. He shows where we are today, laying out our nations biggest vulnerabilities, and offers solutions for a department in disarray. Ervins revealing page-turner includes: Behind locked doors conversations with top leaders who pressured him to put a positive spin on his negative findings The disturbing reality that air travelers are almost as unsafe today as they were on 9/11 and that nothing has been done to secure mass transit The gaping holes in border security that can allow terrorists to sneak into the country The flaws in port security that could spell nuclear disaster His stunning conclusion about the DHS and intelligence communitywhich means that it could be the last to know the next time theres a plot to attack us How wasteful spending impacts the effectiveness of the department and the security of the homeland." The 110th Congress is respectfully requested, to be held accountable those public officials found to be responsible for committing said offenses and to render justice where justice is due.

Time after time the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Mr. Michael Chertoff has ignored his own Inspector General's investigative and Audit Reports and recommendations (changes) regarding ICE, CBP, CIS and other subordinate agencies. For example the DHS-OIG found that there were problems at ICE with its disciplinary process. As usual, there was no reaction and no response from Mr. Michael Chertoff.

DHS, ICE, CBP, and CIS seem to be out of control spending billions of dollars in tax payers monies in projects that because of "national security concerns" we are not allowed to know where all this money is going.

DHS, ICE, CBP, and CIS keeps rewarding inept managers and supervisors who are found guilty of discrimination, incompetence (mismanagement) or with disciplinary actions by transferring or promoted them at our tax-payers expenses. All while low-ranking employees are severly disciplined for mistakes or errors that if committed by management and supervisors are ignored or condoned by the agency's leadership; and/or if committed by employees of other federal agencies result only with a supervisor doing his job by constructively correcting an employee's deficiencies without initiating a disciplinary process.

Those of us who have reported corruption by our own U.S. agency's leaders have become targets of "botched" internal investigations and have paid very high prices for doing our duty.

The same has taken place at the DOJ, FBI, DEA, and OSC: the respective administrators have acted with arrogance and disregard for the average Federal employee and our American Society as a whole. As you review what Bill Conroy has reported, you will discover that the "House of Death" Juarez, Mexico murders cover-up involves Attorney General Alfonso Gonzales, U.S. Attorney Johnnie Sutton of San Antonio, TX, the DEA and possibly the FBI.

"Decency, security, and liberty alike demand that government officials shall be subjected to the same rules of conduct that are commands to the citizen. In a government of laws, existence of the government will be imperiled if it fails to observe the law scrupulously. Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. To declare that in the administration of the criminal law the end justifies the means--to declare that the government may commit crimes in order to secure the conviction of a private criminal--would bring terrible retribution. Against that pernicious doctrine this court should resolutely set its face." - Mr. Justice Brandies of the U.S. Supreme Court in Olmstead V. United States, 277 U.S. 438 (1928)

I give a good deal of the credit for our great victory to Governor Howard Dean and to the strategy of reaching out to the faith based and pro-life communities.

Congratulations to Governor Dean on a job well done!

I want Bredesen to become president.
Bredesen (governor of Tennessee) is a very smart man. If you look at Bredesen's web site you be amazed of how organize he is.
Bredesen should do very well against any republican candid for president.
1) People pay much more attention to governors than senators. There is one governor per state and two senators per state. The governor has much more control of the state than senators. People pay more attention the person in power. That's one of the reasons why bush beat Gore in the 2000 presidential election. In fact, Gore's own state (Tennessee) voted for bush.
2) On Tuesday of November 7 0f 2006, millions of people reelected Bredesen for governor. Bredesen had 69 percent of the votes. That means a lot of people love him. If a lot of people love him than there is more of a chance that he will have more campaigners for the 2008 election.
