Hmmm...so far some senator appears to be on the take (Sweet Nevada Land Deals involving a shopping malls worth millions and Ringside Boxing Seats worth thousands) and some congreswoman is busy trying to figure out how to lift her consituents into power, even if they are either indicted or facing possible criminal charges (such as somebody involved with AzScam who didn't want to take a bribe "yet, maybe later after we have a realtionship"). Please...

Define less corrupt would you please. If anyone takes more than five minutes to look under the covers and stop paying attention to the late night entertainment buffoons everyone would see the lunacy in what took place in November. I am wondering why Combatting Global Warming is not at the TOP of the list for the first 100 hours. there is no issue more urgent. Ending subsidies for big oil?? this has to be accompanied with GIVING subsidies to renewable sources of nonpolluting energy. this will:
Break our addiction to foreign oil
end war for oil
clean the air
reverse global warming
Save money in the long run
ETc, Etc, Etc

I can get into breaking the link with lobbyists and legislature, but we must remember that Democrats and Republicans alike have participated in this no-no.

Can't get into the minimum wage hike. That will just cost us all by raising prices.

Making college more affordable may be good thing if it doesn't cost the general consumer more.

Making healthcare more affordable by negotiating is a cool thing, but not if it's going to lead to socialized healthcare. History has proven over and over again that the free market is the best approach to regulation. People don't buy what they don't like. Negotiation is very much a part of the free market and may very well reap good benefits.

Eliminating or reducing subsidies for Big Oil may be a good thing if it doesn't lead to higher prices. Again, government regulation of gas prices should not have to be a result in this in order to eliminate the subsidies. Government regulation of healthcare, oil, gas or anything else is just giving beaureaucrats control of your life and doesn't work.

Stem cell research funded by government money is not bad as long as it's not embryonic stem cells or any other type that will lead to the need to take lives or to encourage the taking of lives.

Don't you feel like we are coming home for the holidays? Sanity is returning to the Beltway. To think such common sense, middle American ideas are now considered "revolutionary."

why can't state university tuition be free? Students would only pay for housing and books. We could cut student loan borrowing and reduce pell grants.

What do you have in mind? Putting them in the public stocks or the guillotine? Impeachment is too good for them.

I am not one of those "successful people". I am self-employed and most likely pay more in taxes than you could fathom. It seems that Dems would like to "re-define" the meaning of words such as "corruption" but only as it applies to one political party.

Taking hard earned money that most self-employed people scratch out for their families is our business not the government experts'. If you want to get into my world then stay out of my pockets with your "government-can do-it-better" attitude.

My Wish List for the Democratic Agenda

1.a. Reform Electioneering: Public Funding for all Political campaigns - fixed amount, no one is allowed to use more money, public use of airwaves for getting candidates' messages out. No more sound-bite elections. Follow the prescriptions of Common Cause, Project Vote Smart & Public Campaign Action Fund
1.b. Reform Lobbying - Take away any incentive/ opportunity for politicians to profit from their legislative activities. No "soft" money - ever!
1.c. Investigate (& punish!) the Executive Branch in their abuses of the Constitution and violations of the Geneva Conventions & the huge contracts it awarded during the ongoing Iraq and Katrina catastrophes. Issue apologies or at least acknowlegement that the Policy of Pre-Emptive Engagement will never happen again and legislate it... Offer amnesty to members of congress for certain abuses in a quid pro quo for the American people so that we can move forward with sweeping reforms.
2. Global Warming/ Environmental Leadership/ Conservation/ Alternative Energy subsidies immediately with an Omnibus act. No expanations should be necessary at this point.
3. Humanity 101: Take care of Katrina Victims, 9/11 victims - the one's that are still alive (Police, Firemen & the residents of downtown manhattan) and never let a failure of basic fundamental humanity thru beaurocratic indifference happen again on our shores - Schools, Hospitals, shelters for the displaced. We should be judged by how we care for the weakest among us... It is a disgrace that we spend only a pittance of our tax revenues on education & heatlth care and on the elderly while we give huge subsidies to pharmaceuticals & oil companies & the Haliburtons of the world.
4. Separate Church and State - follow the guidlines of Americans United & the Interfaith Alliance (or the Constitution)
5. Begin to require that US trading partners adhere to safety & health standards of employment so that our workers have a fair chance to compete. Don't make it the employers' responsibility to determine this.
6. Clean up the insurance industry which has hijacked our health care system, our homeownership, and our small business' ability to compete with larger companies.

My vote was for changes that effect the American people and satisfy our demands. The "First 100 Hour" agenda is a start, but we voted for an end to the Iraq war and stopping the flow of illegal immigrants across our boarders.

Fail to end the war or get rid of the illegals and no incumbent will stand a chance at re-election, at least from my vote.

Get out of Iraq now. Cut the funding for war. That's what those who voted for Democrats expected Democrats to do. Bring the troops home now. No esculation of the war.

Yes. It's amazing how out of touch the GOP has gotten with the country at large.

What's even more amazing is that there are still a handful of people who not only support the failed agenda but take time out of their day to come here and boast about it.

What pay as you go acomplishes is that anyone in Congress who votes for a new program has to also vote for a tax increase and be held accountable by their constiuents.

The GOP loved to borrow - and taking responsibility was not one of their strong suits.

You know what's missing here? Responsibility. Dems want a more "responsible and ethical" government yet they bring forth the fringe element which cowtows to such high brow elements of our society as the Hollywood elite (such as ever so middle of the road "got my gun, heck with you" Streisand and Michael Moore - I have my seat at the National convention, get your own).

The Republicans can't shoot straight and the so-called "un-decided" swing vote (or as I would refer to them as great gutless wonders) can't figure out how to fire the whole lot.

We got ourselves to this point. We are going to have to get to some higher point that works for all. Sorry, though, after over 50 years of big spending (Dem or Rep) government has failed. I for one am not holding my breath. The Dem win means nothing to me. It's just a bunch of new suits on the same old hacks.

We need to reduce government spending, lower taxes and cut stupid programs that mean nothing. Who's going to step up to the plate and get it done? I sincereley doubt the Dems will. The Reps sure didn't. It's in the blood of Dems to spend other peoples money. Wake me when it's over.

The stink of the swap smells of the carcasses of both major parties. I for one am going to speak out against foolish programs and spit out politicians that don't get things done as they should be. We let this happen. Dems, wise up and make good, otherwise step aside. The leadership of the Dems is so lame right now, it is amazing to watch the insincerity. All bad actors.

Yea, that new Democratic senator from Montanta is a real cowtowing highbrow. He believes that if we elect people who think government can't much good, we shouldn't be surprised when the don't much good governing.

He learned from raising cattle I guess.

U.S. Senator Max Baucus seems like a nice guy, grad from Stanford U, traveled the globe, a good environmentalist, protector of the front range Chair of the Beef Caucus, member of the Congressional Sportmen's caucus, pro NARAL, pro wheat growers, pro wildlife, pro Planned Parenthood, pro tax-limiation caucus, pro farmers, etc etc .

Actually, the "new" Senator I was referring to is Tester. Both he and Baucus were elected by those in charge of both the party and the country.

Perhaps Moore and Streisand supported Tester and Baucus - I don't know. Carol King works a ranch over in Wyoming. Maybe she supported him.

I'm just concerned about all those people in Montanta cowtowing to the liberal hollywood elites that run the Democratic party.

When it gets down to it, I could not think of a better way of life than to live the way our ancestors did. Herding cattle to me conjours up images from my Zane Grey novels. We live in a wonderful place. I live in Arizona, one of a number of homes to Zane Grey. Nevertheless, politics aside, I am American first. For this I would die. You?

I never served, though many in my extended family have (and do), and I regret that I never did. I'm too old at this point to be anything other than a liability but if I could take the place of someone serving who has kids to put through school yet or even just a girl friend at home to sit on the back porch with, I would.

The first primary vote I ever cast was for a Republican.

I'm not from MT, though I relatives there. I live in MN. I've never raised cattle, but I do ride. I like to hunt, but I can't shoot straight so I fish more often than not.

I'm "liberal" on a great many things, "conservative" on others, "libertarian" on still others

but these days I'm pretty much a radical.

I forgot to mention, I think the President had a hair up his butt when he invaded Iraq. Not the first President Bush, the second President Bush.

The Very first thing that needs fixing is the Electoral system! Without free and fair elections or more political suicides on the part of Republicans, Democrats will be back in the Congressional minority in two years.

The very first thing needed is the Elimination of Gerrymandering. The only place Democrats have a gerrymandering advantage is California, and that advantage is not great as many Republican districts are not packed 100% as Democrat districts are in places like Florida and Texas.

And that the Republicans have a massive, but extremely local campaign to reverse it in California, we must take their thrust and make it national or lose California too. The Republicans have abandoned the ten year rule, we can only make the rule irrelevant by making Gerrymandering illegal from anybody.

With 4 Congressional districts in my one zipcode, what is an overall 55% Democratic vote, still elects a 75% Republican Congressional representation even in a year such as this.

With enough Gerrymandering, chicanery is almost unnecessary but that needs to be addressed hard and early as well. The new Jim Crow laws must be spanked down, and the laws on what is already illegal enforced.

If folk need an ID to assure that folk do not cast multiple votes, everyone carries their ID in their thumbprint, readers are cheap now, and nobody needs to sign up to get one!

Lastly the votes themselves need to be reliably cast and counted, and if necessary, recounted. It is absurd that a secret partisan black box robot can "just decide" who wins a race, and have no way of telling who's thumb was on that scale and how hard.

The List of things that urgently need attending is huge and daunting, but without a viable reliable, Democracy none of the other things can be permanently accomplished.

Legislate permanant tax cuts for working Americans, including the child tax credit, and earned income rate changes that are temporarily in place. Then let the cuts on unearned income of the ultra-rich expire so we can reduce the deficit. Republicans won't have a leg to stand on if they can only argue about cutting taxes for the rich.

Please make "the sanctity of the vote" and all that implies part of the first 100 hours. What good is any political activity at all if all votes are not counted fairly and accurately.
