DNC Winter Meeting Prep
Posted by on January 31, 2007 at 03:50 PM
So the blog has been kind of quiet this week, as we've all been working on getting ready for the DNC Winter Meeting, which kicks-off tomorrow in Washington, DC.
We are all really excited about the meeting. After our successes in 2006, which put Democrats in control, not just of the United States Congress (though that's a huge deal), but also Governors' mansions, Legislative bodies and Mayors' offices all across America, Democrats are heading into 2007 strong and united. We've got the "big mo'" as one of my old campaign managers used to say, and we're using it.
In Congress, under the leadership of Speaker Pelosi, Democrats passed every item on the "100 Hours" agenda - ahead of schedule. In the Senate, Democrats are beginning the arduous task of cleaning up the mess the GOP left behind, while also aggressively moving forward to stop the President from escalating the war in Iraq.
Then there is the 2008 election. I'll just quote Governor Dean:
"Our Democratic leaders in Congress are working to make government work for every American, and the talented and diverse group of presidential candidates joining us this weekend are proof that we can bring the same kind of vision, talent and strong leadership to the White House. Democrats are energized and ready to build on our Party's successes, and we're confident that a Democrat will be America's next president."
Over the next three days, we'll provide an inside look into the Winter meeting - with blog posts, pictures and video of all that's going on.
If there is anything special you are interested in hearing about, let us know in the comments. We'll do our best to make sure we touch on every aspect of the meeting and bring you as close to the action as possible.

Will there be real time streaming video of the speeches available anywhere? If so please provide a link.
yes, there will be streaming video of the speeches available on democrats.org, we just don't have the link yet. and if you miss a speech, we will have them archived on our site as well.
I was just watching Harball. I believe they said MSNBC will be carrying the DNC meeting "Live."
Is this true?!?
We expect them to cut in and out - though not carry the whole thing. C-span should have more continuous coverage, which we'll give you a heads up on when we confirm times.
well, of course the main thing I want to know is how we are going to clean up bush's mess in Iraq. It's a shame that we have to figure it out after he lied and shamed our country to go there.
I am so sick of people like tucker carlson saying that if we oppose the escalation we have to have another plan. bush and his henchmen made the mess but we have to clean it up? unfortunately yes we do....because they sure as hell won't. has anyone informed bush of how many people are dead FOR NO REASON? he is probably still playing the video of saddam's execution over and over and over. I feel like I come here and repeat myself constantly but the outrage only gets stronger every day. also, although I still don't consider myself a full fledged Dem, I would like to be reassured that the party will not self destruct during the primaries. and I'm telling you right now QUEEN HILLARY is going to de-rail EVERYTHING WE HAVE ALL WORKED FOR. she is a bad dream. she waltzes in like she is going to be handed the nomination on a silver platter. she makes me sick. I have not scraped up dimes and nickels to send to Howard and signed petitons and cried and bled for her to screw everything up. there is more talk of Al Gore and I am with him. I hope he waits and joins late in the game and blows them all away. he can win. he's already done it once. have a nice night!
I'd like to know why we're inviting the worst war criminal to our meetings?
The Chimp Wimp has no credibilty with the American people, 70% Disapproval rating and yet we're giving him a place at the table. To boot he's dictating the questions.
I also would like to know why Pelosi speaks in the same terms as the Chimps. I heard her say today, "I hope we have a prayerful meeting."
This sounds like the Christian Right/Wrong all over again!
This is not what the American people voted for in November and won't vote for in 2008!
FORE-WARNED!!!
"GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK."
My questions were already answered. I will be watching. I have all three CSpans so let me know which one and at what time please.
This is gonna be great.
:)
Thank you for asking. Yes, I would like to know about:
1. Protecting and preserving DEMOCRACY with clean elections.
We must get partisan e-voting companies with proprietary software out of the process. No more out-sourcing this important part of a healthy democracy. No more secret software. All software belongs to county and state buyers. We must secure the voting process from casting to counting.
Solution: Vote-by-mail so seniors don't have to vote in the WINTER. We forget how many are disenfranchised by having elections on a cold, wet day in many places in the country. Open up the one winter day vote with VBM to allow more people to vote.
2. Fairness in reporting by media. Wake up. Corporate America is giving Democrats a hack job. The MSM does not fairly cover Democrats. The MSM keeps important health and labor issues out of the discussion. I refuse to let out candidates get abused.
Solution: Bring back the fairness doctrine. The DNC should post replies and statements on all important issues, and the media must report on official DNC statements and issues.
3. Get the money out of the process. No more of "the best democracy money can buy." Our political process has turned into a selling game where everything from toll ways to port security to politicians are bought. Enough is enough. Elections are a billion dollar game per election cycle. Democrats will always lose with this highest-bidder wins game. It's no wonder America has fallen in so many important categories, compared to other countries.
Solution: Public-financed campaigns.

These 3 reforms would help level the political playing field, restore faith and trust in the democratic process, and gain the respect of the vast majority of Americans.
TAKE BACK AMERICA!
During the recent electoral campaign there was considerable internecine strife within the Democratic camp publicly attacking Howard Dean for his "50-state strategy." I think the criticism detracted from the campaign and would not like to see it repeated in the future. I found particularly unhelpful some of the statements of Carville and Congressman Emanuel. I happen to think the "50-state strategy" was a howling success that was probably the reason we regained the Senate majority. Just think — no more right-wing appointments to the Supreme Court!

Can I get a schedule for the speakers for the Winter Meeting? Did any candidates speak before Wesley Clark?
Hi,
There's been some speculation on another Democratic message board that I belong to, that some of the candidates brought "cheerleaders" for their speeches today.
Is there any validity to this?
BTW, I thought they all were terrific, and am proud of all of them. (especially my personal favorite)
Thanks :-)
